With your help, Bristol Palin could actually win Dancing with the Stars
Here’s a website that uses a computer dialing system to test how much support contestants receive on shows like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.
The above data table is from that site, and it shows Bristol Palin as the estimated top vote-getter during the telephone voting period of Dancing with the Stars last night.
The computer send signals into the telephone numbers for each contestant, and register the busy tones they get, to determine how many people nationwide are trying to phone in for that contestant that week.
This method has had great success predicting the top vote-getters on American Idol and past seasons of Dancing.
It does not, however, factor in the online voting portion of the vote total…that’s where you can vote for Bristol via your computer at ABC.com, voting up to 11 times for her if you wish.
We have no idea how voting on Dancing with the Stars works, so we’d love a tutorial from you in the comments. We know that each contestant receives a score from the judges, and last night Bristol’s score was a 22/30…which is incredible for an amateur dancer who’s now only been up on a stage two times as a performer.
How is it determined who should go home each week?
Is it a combination of the judges’ scores and the audience voting, or is it just the audience that determines the outcome?
Because based on what we’re seeing in terms of support for Bristol, she has a very real shot at winning this thing. We’d be surprised if she did not make it to at least the top three, because even a coordinated effort by the Left to vote for other contestants to boot Bristol out would not be able to counteract the support the Palin family has nationwide that’s turning out in massive numbers to keep Bristol in this competition.
If you want to vote for her mom to be president in 2012, voting for Bristol in this Dancing with the Stars competition is very much helping Governor Palin’s chances of getting the Republican nomination in two years.
The better Bristol does, the more chances the Palins have to be in front of Independent voters, where people coast to coast get to know the family through young Bristol and start to think about how great it would be to have her as a First Daughter. The same is true for Governor Palin’s TV show about Alaska that’s set to debut soon. All of this is building the Palin brand and establishing this family as our next First Family.
We don’t see how the Mittens Romneys, Tim Pawlentys, Mitche Danielses, and others can combat this.
It’s all genius, really.
And the longer Bristol stays on the show, the better the plan works.

I was watching last night when Sarah Palin was being booed by some members in the audience … couldn’t believe it.
This morning, ABC is covering saying the audience was really booing the scores the judges were going to give … ya, nice try.
actually I’ve been told that is true! They were booing Jen Grey’s score! They thought she should be higher (which is true)
I thought it was at Sarah at first too but they say not….
There was too long of a pause between the scoring and the boos showing me that if they were booing the scores, they would have done so after each score that the judge posted.and then right after the total. The long pause means they were boing Palin!
Does it cost $ to vote? by text or online?
no money is involved. if you go to ABC’s Dancing WTS page you can look for the voting page. Register your email address first [it takes 5 seconds] and then vote away.
Each email gets up to 12 votes. I have 2 yahoo emails and used them both last night for a total of 24 votes.
Sad to say, Jennifer got most of them but Bristol got the rest.
Felix: why is it sad to say Jennifer got the most votes? It’s a dance competition, and her spinal damage from cancer puts her on an even par with those who’ve had no dance experience. Thus far, I find the voting fair. Bristol, like a true Libra woman, IS a good natural dancer, but Jennifer, thus far, is better.
If Bristol keeps it up, she’ll be in the top three FAIRLY and SQUARELY.
She might even win, but I don’t subscribe to voting on the basis of popularity alone, which is why some fat, blocky gymnast stole the rightful title from Giles Marini.
Fair is fair. I have faith in Bristol and her own ability to get herself to the finals. But if Jennifer outdances her, then Jennifer should rightly win.
GNH, I meant “sad” because I felt like a traitor. I was voting for the most talented person and not the one I wanted to be most popular.
And don’t get me started on Marini. He is not even close to being my type. But, when I saw him dance “Kryptonite” with the “G” on his t-shirt, I gotta admit, I fell in love with that guy.
He is adorable but, better yet, does not take himself seriously and is really talented. He should’ve won.
I love our Olympiad Gal, but she’s no “Marini!”

Here’s a link to the video. You decide
They were NOT booing Sarah. Jennifer Grey danced a superb dance, meriting at least 1 or 2 9′s, but was scored no higher than last week — THAT’s what the booing was about.
The audience booed several other scores as being too low, for performances both before and after Jennifer’s number. In several cases it seemed to me the judges’ scoring was calibrated to the perceived popularity of the performers, not the actual performance. Palin was wildly applauded, not booed.
I booed the judges’ scores for Jennifer, too. I didn’t get that the audience was booing Mrs. Palin. I did see a look on the face of a judge or two, but I doubt the booing was for Sarah.
Unfortunate timing is all.
Agree with you garlicnosedho about the booing and Giles Marini – he was robbed!!!
voted!
No…they were not booing Sarah. They were booing the low scores for Jennifer Grey. On several sites the eeyores and trolls have been hitting conservative sites to stir up trouble by trying to push this nonsense. I don’t know you and haven’t seen you post before so I have to ask…are you real or are you Memorex?
At first I thought they were booing Sarah too but then realized that there was a lag time because everyone in the audience would have been seeing Tom saddling up to Sarah getting ready for her introduction.
That’s the reason it took 2 to 3 seconds for the booing to start.
What great publicity DWTS is for the Palins. It was a thrill to see Bristol perform so well,to see the Gov. get the special attention she deserves from a network, and to have objective proof that so many of us love this family and turn out the vote for them. Thanks for sharing the chart!
The total DWTS score is half judges and half audience vote.
For the judges half, the total points awarded by the judges (to all couples) is added together. Each couple receives a “percentage score” equal to their judges score divided by the total points awarded (times 100 to make it a percent).
For example, if a couple scores 25 and there were 200 total points awarded, the couple receives 25/200 x 100 = 12.5%.
The audience vote works the same way. Each couple receives a percentage based on the number of votes they received divided by the total number of audience votes cast.
For example, if a couple receives 8 million audience votes and there were 40 million votes cast, the couple gets a 20.0%.
The two percentages are added together (32.5% in the above example), and the couple with the lowest “percentage total” is eliminated.
Here’s the scoop on the scoring math, from abc.com:
When the field is as big as it is currently, it really is all about the audience votes. The judges will matter more later.
Here’s the spread on percentage-of-judges votes for this week:
Jennifer Grey (24 points): 10.86%
Audrina (23 points): 10.41%
Bristol/Kyle (22 points): 9.95%
Brandy/Kurt/Rick (21 points): 9.50%
Florence (19 points): 8.60%
Situation/Cho (18 points):8.14%
Bolton (12 points): 5.43%
With fewer contestants, the worth of a judges’ point gets higher.
It’s my prediction that Bristol goes the Kelly Osborne route (to whom she was compared last night) and comes in 3rd. However, I’m rooting for there to be a Mirror Ball Trophy in the White House someplace come 2013.
She does remind me of Kelly Osbourne.. she was so darn cute, everyone was rooting for her.
Or.. hopefully, Bristol will go the Donny Osmond route and people will vote like crazy and she will win it…
Seriously… who doesnt love Donny Osmond?!
Towards the end of the competition it really becomes about talent. When there are only 5 contestants left, talent and skill usually takes precedence. Of course, that is a general rule and there can be exceptions. After all the Mel B [aka Scary Spice] lost to Helio. Now, that was insane.
My personal take, Bristol will probably make it long into the competition. But, I’m still thinking Jennifer will win providing The Fox doesn’t get a lot better real quick.
Mel B did very well, but really has anyone remembered her routines as well as his quick step dance (in yellow costume)? He was superb!
Oooh! Yeah, as the Mask. I remember that. He was awesome. But, I still would have bet the farm [if we had one] she was gonna be the winner.
Is anyone having trouble voting? I can’t log it to my ABC account, so I voted with my twitter account. But, I can’t sign up for new accounts for my husband and daughter…..
I couldn’t log in either. It said my email had been used. Then when I asked for my password, I got some message about the account being incomplete. I do have another email for junk. So I think I’ll register on that one.
I had problems last week but this week it let me vote online. I have about 10 different ID’s on Disney sites and there is only one that I know the password for…that one wouldn’t work last week but it did this week.
Plus, I have AT&T so I was able to text on my phone and my daughters. Next week, I’m going to steal my husband’s phone to use his to vote too. But last night I got 35 votes in.
I have discovered that I can vote with my cell phone, my land line and twice on the computer. If one votes the night of the event then it allows for you to vote the next day on computer again for the 11 votes.
I am SO with you guys on this…pop culture (unfortunately) does play a part in all of this. When I was in college in the 80′s, people made fun of Reagan, sure…but we all strived to be successful and make money and it was POPULAR to be a capitalist.
We need to get back to the yuppie days…I can pull out my old Izod shirts and stonewashed jeans if necessary!
i agree that jennifer grey should have received a 10, thats why they booed..as for bristol. she did very well, but that dress? it made her look chubby, it was not at all sophisticated like other gals were wearing.
My guess is that judges hedge their bets, so to speak, early in the contest in case an even better performance comes along later in the contest.
You have to remember that Bristol is a real girl, she’s not a professional dancer. Of course she looks curvy, because that’s how actual women are designed. If your a dancer who has trained your whole life, your body type is usually very small and lean to begin with, but that is not how average women look. The same is true for male dancers, they’re usually very small and lean.
Bristol actually looked very sophisticated in that dress. The judges noticed to. Remember when they said the other woman looked like a prancing pony? It’s because that’s a showbiz version of dance, it’s not the actual art involved, and judges find that kind of thing distracting.
You just know there will be jerks upskirting her with screen shots for the internet; I love it that she outfoxed them by wearing a longer leotard bottom under her gown.

I have to say, I was originally a little nervous about Bristol doing this, but I’ve come over to “Yet another genius move from the Palins.” By the time 2012 comes around, Bristol will no longer be the pariah that she (wrongfully, awfully, disgracefully) was in 2008 — she’ll be that awesome girl we loved from TV.
http://www.usmagazine.com/healthylifestyle/news/go-inside-sarah-palins-home-2010289
I saw that…but boy the comments on the other article about “was Sarah booed” are just plain awful…yikes!
I think Bristol must be coming off as really good and nice because the LSM is barely paying her any attention. Afterall, we all know, that if they could bash a Palin, they would. SNL would bash her if they had a smidgeon of her appearing to be inept.
It is 1/2 judge’s scores, 1/2 viewer scores. Each week one person goes home, so this week you could vote 11 times, next week it will be 10 times on each phone and also each internet access or text. Bristol’s phone number for the entire show every week is 1-800-868-3407. Please mark this down for next week (I will post it again next Monday). You can start calling soon after the show starts – you do not have to wait until Bristol dances, which is at the end of the show. Not a good place for her to be in since people may have already used up their votes by the time she goes on, but she seems to be doing well and the judge’s like her. When I heard boos I first thought it was for Sarah Palin. Then someone said it was for Jennifer Gray. Sarah was so cute and I loved seeing her in Alaska. She is a great mom and a lioness toward her cub Bristol. I think Bristol will do well. The judges like her naturalness and her charm. She needs to learn technique and that comes with practice. Her partner Mark is a good match, a good teacher and they seem to get along well. I think Bristol will continue on for a while, and may even make it to the finals. That depends almost solely on viewer voting. Viewers have to vote as their combined total makes up 1/2 of the total each week. There are upsets where someone is a very good dancer, but they have no viewer base, and they get eliminated. Celebrities need to get people to vote for them during the course of their DWTS. Sometimes they go to benefits, charities, events and dance with their paratner and rally up groups to vote for them. Jennifer Gray will continue to do well as Derek Hough, her partner, is one of the best dancers, best teachers and has won several times and they always give a celebrity they think is really good to him, so ABC is expecting Jennifer to do well. Actually Dererk makes his partner look good each and every time. Loved seeing Sarah’s younger daughter sitting next to her in the audience. What a treat!
So you’re saying I could have voted 22 times (11 on-line PLUS 11 by phone), not just 11? Please let me know.
I’ve been giving the bulk of my votes to Bristol (6 of 11 last night; 7 of 12 last week), and the rest to other performances I really like or that I feel the judges are judging too low.
It’s too late for his week, but I would LOVE to have 20 votes to parcel out next week.
You can vote 11 (next week 10) for each phone number you have, each internet access and AT&T texting (I think that costs money). They don’t know if you are voting through phones and internet. If you have 3 telephone numbers (a cell phone, and 2 land lines with different numbers), if you get someone to call on all of them, you can vote 33 times!
I may be repeating myself as I tried to post this before and it didn’t seem to go through with this answer, but you can vote 11 (next week 10) with as many different phone numbers as you have. Also, at the same time, you can vote through the internet. There is no way they can connect who is voting from what telephone numbers. If you have a cell phone, you can call 11 times from that number, also call 11 times from a land line, and also 11 times using the internet. So you can call 33 times or more (it may be a little hard to juggle it all!) but it is possible all at the same time.
Is this accurate??? 58+%???? My God!
Awesome!!!
First time I watched DWTS–loved it. She’s so fresh and sweet.
Will show up to watch this show again, people having Fun! You don’t see that much on TV.
I thought Bristol did really well last night and I loved her dress.
Have you noticed that her two songs so far have mentioned “Mama”. 3 Dog Night: Mama Told Me Not to Come and last night Mama Said Don’t Hurry Love. Pretty clever if you ask me. Wonder what Mama song will be next week.
I noticed the “Mama” references too.
“Your mama don’t dance and your daddy don’t rock-n-roll”.
“Mama said there’d be days like this”
“Mama… just killed a man…”
There are tons of ‘em
Mama Mia!
Mama’s Pearl
Yup, I’m sure there are lots more.
“curdle Romney’s mayonnaise” LOL
I’ve been tuned into DialIdol for years. They are right most of the time. Never have I seen a huge ‘upset’ against their predictions…..so this score today makes me very happy indeed!
Ha…I just saw this…
http://www.ontheredcarpet.com/2010/09/bristol-palin-says-her-moms-support-was-comforting-mark-ballas-thinks-the-judges-were-out-of-line-wi.html
And in it Bristol confirms what we all hoped…she’s had enough of the “Mama told me” songs! You go girl!!!
I voted for Bristol 22 times.
Kevin, what a good article you have up at C4P!
Yes! I just caught and read that article. Great job as usual Kevin!!!
Last night while watching Bristol dance, I saw a very proud mother cheering for her daughter. It was priceless to seejoy in Sarah’s eyes watching her daughter dance, she was very proud of her.Last night, Sarah Palin was not a politician; she was a mother proud of her daughter. Piper was so proud of her big sister, she was the biggest cheerleader for Bristol last night.
The audience booed the judges, I was expecting Jennifer will get 9, I was disappointed with the score.
Don’t go in to the comments section on ABC.Bristol and Sarah are getting crucified.I can’t believe all the cruel and sick people using such filthy language about a young girl calling her a whore and saying she is a fat cow. They did that to Shawn Johnson and that child was only 16 years old.Sick sick people to attack a child that way.
Why would someone vote for an individual that clearly isn’t trying as hard as the other contestants?
This is still America right?… I mean this is a dance competition, and regardless of whom who’s mother is does not make the better dancer.
People talk of Bristol like she is a star, of what though? She doesn’t act, sing and it is apparent she cannot dance-
Move on America, life is not for lusting after Quitters.
