Will Republicans stand up to farm lobby and end $5 billion annual ethanol subsidy?
Ethanol is an unfunny joke.
Al Gore pushed a $5 billion annual subsidy for ethanol as a political favor to farm states.
It has not done any of the things it was supposed to do and instead drove food prices up.
We need to stop handing so much of our Treasury to agribusiness…and we need food prices to drop.
Will Cocktail Party blue blood GOP establishment types man up and tell Iowa to go to Hell for the good of the country?
Do they have the guts to do the right thing?

I would think that after looking at the vote on SB-510 the ethanol subsidies will end right after pigs fly and the sun rises in the west.
I’m more concerned with the massive food subsidies. Ethanol is unpopular enough to be a fairly safe bet. I wonder if they have the spines to go after the other subsidies, particularly in rural districts.
Ethanol is not only subsidized it is also mandated for use in fuel. Kill the subsidy now and the mandate in 2012 when Obama is gone. Is the present Republican Congress up to that job? No I don’t think so but it has improved since last election. We are going to have to fire until we get it right.
Here in Missouri we have the 10% mandate – all regular unleaded has to be 10% ethanol. I screamed when they put into law and have not stopped screaming at it. It was done by a Republican Governor (Baby Blunt).
Ethanol is Bad one every front. A 10% ethanol blend means that you get about 10% less on your gas mileage (at least and sometimes more). Ethanol attracts the water in the air around it which makes more water in your fuel. This extra moisture causes engine and fuel system corrosion and is costly to fix. Same goes for the little things like lawn mowers, weed eaters, ATV and motorcycles – these smaller engines were not made for ethanol and it hurts them. The mandate was for 10%, the reason it is not higher is because no regular gas engine can handle a higher mixture.
Ethanol is only good for the companies that are the “farmers” that get the subsidies – (most small farmers do not qualify for this kind of stuff) and the manufacturers of the ethanol who get HUGE subsidies, tax credits and grants to operate. Yet, we the people pay more on ALL fronts. More at the store with higher food costs, more in taxes to fund all of the subsidies and more in repair, maintenance and replacement costs to use the ethanol in our cars and equipment.

Woot! Woot! I think it’s safe to say they will. The Republicans are coming out shooting! This is the third salvo I’ve seen them throw today.
Democrats love to manipulate the rules to their advantage and always forget that Republicans learn from them…I expect the tables to be turned quite nicely. At least from what I’m seeing today.
The farm hand out for miss using our food for fuel was just another way to tear down this country. Republicans must broach the miss use of funds in all areas and this is a huge one!
