Why the “Bill Richardson to replace Hillary Clinton” rumor is garbage. Quick answer: she hates him, and people she hates don’t get to replace her. See also: HRH Princess Caroline of Kennedy

On a scale of 1-10, the Clintons hate Bill Richardson at level 10. They will not allow this man to be Secretary of State. He will be lucky if he gets to Assistant Manage an Arby's somewhere. Someday.
HotAir and Breitbart TV have been running one of the stupidest rumors I’ve seen about Hillary Clinton in a while — that she is leaving the State Department and Bill Richardson is going to replace her.
You need to understand something about Hillary Clinton, and you need to apply this understanding to everything she does in life: when she hates someone, she makes sure that person never gets what he or she wants. Ever. That person goes on a list, and everyone who is loyal to the Clintons does his or her part to make sure life becomes a living, perpetual Hell for that person. It’s sort of a game people in Hillaryland play. And it sure beats Yahtzee, let me tell you.
It’s really fun, actually.
I got to help play back in December 2008 when I went to New York for the “Conversation with Hillary Clinton” event America Ferrara hosted as one of the last official Hillary for President fundraising events. This was a Q&A session, moderated by Ferrara, similar to the Actors Studio TV show James Lipton hosts, but instead of a Hollywood star it was soon-to-be Secretary of State Clinton talking about her life, personal stories from Arkansas, the White House, and the 2008 campaign, and just being her self. It was marvelous.
The audience was packed with Hillary supporters, and before the event began the topic of conversation in the theater was what all of us could do to make sure anvils, grand pianos, and battleships landed square on the head of HRH Princess Caroline of Kennedy — like she was the coyote in a Warner Bros. cartoon — as she made her power play to replace Hillary Clinton as Senator in the state of New York (the office HRC vacated to become Secretary of State).
With immense personal delight, Hillary supporters offered up all the things they could do to Princess Caroline, to embarrass her, to scare away her potential donors, and to pressure New York Governor David Paterson to humiliate her and openly defy the Kennedy family in public.
At that “Conversation with Hillary” event, all sorts of plots and schemes were hatched to prevent Princess Caroline getting her way…and in the end, we succeeded impressively. Princess Caroline’s most ardent supporters relented that “everything that was special about her has been destroyed…she is finished now”.
Serves her right for backstabbing Hillary Clinton, the woman who had always been so kind to Princess Caroline, during the 2008 primary campaign.
On a scale of 1-10, Hillary Clinton personally hates Caroline Kennedy at about a 5.
Bill Richardson, on the other hand, is at a 10 on both of the Clintons’ hate lists.
You are out of your damn mind if you think for even an instant the Clintons would allow Bill Richardson to become Secretary of State. If they kept Princess Caroline from being not only a Senator, but also an Ambassador in the Obama Administration (remember, Princess had asked, through intermediaries, to be Ambassador to the Court of St. James, Ambassador to France, or (her last choice) Ambassador to the Vatican, but she was denied all of these posts), then don’t you think they would prevent Richardson from becoming Secretary of State.
Remember, Richardson asked for this position when he backstabbed the Clintons in 2008, endorsing Obama instead of HRC. This was his supposed 30 pieces of silver. One of the reasons HRC took the SoS position, in my personal opinion, was to prevent Richardson (and John Kerry, too) from having it for himself.
Hillary Clinton is like that.
Those of you who have hated her for all these years have missed the opportunity of observing one of the most interesting and entertaining grudge-holders in American history at the top of her game. If you are loyal to her, she will move mountains to help you and never forget what you’ve done for her. If you backstab her, she will put you on “The List”, and her loyalists will work tirelessly every day to do whatever they can to take you down. In creative, soul-crushing, often publicly humiliating ways.
This kind of loyalty and love for one woman, whom her supporters see as being so very wronged, is an American equivalent of the supporters of Catherine of Aragon…the woman cast aside by Henry VIII in favor of the newer and flashier model that was the (doomed) Ann Boleyn. Catherine’s supporters were legion, and though they had to operate underground, they never disappeared, remaining her loyalists for the rest of her life (and even long after). They had secret handshakes, symbols, committees of correspondence, and various plots and schemes that led to the downfall of Boleyn in the end…as well as all those who installed her in Catherine’s place.
Welcome to Hillaryland…and the neverending clandestine quest by her loyalists to punish the Obamas, his presidency, and people like Princess Caroline and Bill Richardson who stabbed her in the back in 2008.
Bill Richardson is lucky if, someday, far in the future, he’s able to become so much as the Assistant Manager of a medium-peforming Arby’s off an interstate somewhere.
No matter what Hotair, Breitbart TV, or Korean media says….trust me, this is the truth.

Why isn't Obama on this grudge list? He screwed both Clintons over–royally. Why don't Hill and Bill set out to destroy HIM. ???
Where have you been the last two years?
Obamacare has destroyed this presidency.
If you can't see the Clintons behind the scenes painting Obama into an unwinnable corner that's destroyed him, then you just aren't paying any attention.
But have they actually done that – painted him into an unwinnable corner that’s destroyed him? Krauthammer has a current column extolling the man’s successes -3 bills passed, never mind the stupidty of START – just two months after the shellacking. I gather that he fears an Obama win in 2012
There’s something wrong with Krauthammer.
The bills the Obama Democrats have passed are not winners with the American people.
Doing things people don’t want done to them is not a winning strategy for 2012.
What Democrats have done in this Congress, especially in the lame duck session, will come back to haunt, not help, them in the next two years.
I agree. They are bad legislation and we didn’t want any of it, except I’m glad they settled the gays-in-the-military flap. Still, the Fools have passed START and a Yet More Spending bill, and people are standing around applauding teh won for it. I don’t understand why he’s a winner either, except in the sense that he’s whipped the American people six ways to Sunday.
Maybe we are now expected to give up, bow our heads in disgrace, and go away defeated.
Will this work for them? You’re saying No way, what they’ve done will come back to haunt, not help, them. It’s haunting, not helping, them now…you and I are outraged at the overreaching and presumption. But there’s got to be a large number of people out there depending on the government teat, and in this economy there will probably be even more by 2012. It’s possible that Krauthamer’s fears are legitimate.
Beat the drums louder, Kevin. And thanks for your service.
All of the things Obama has passed are like a joke I heard in grade school.
A little boy came home from school with a black eye. His mother asked how he got it. He said he was trying to win a merit badge for boy scouts, and decided to help a little old lady across the street. His mother said, “How nice. But how did you get the black eye?” The little boy replied, “She did not want to cross the street.”
Yeah, what the heck IS wrong with Krauthammer. After the whole “comeback kid” crap and the woohoo Obama’s at the top of his game crap, he’s now saying that we shouldn’t repeal OCare. What’s up with him?
Ouch, Kevin! I've been right here with you for the past two years. For once, we are on a different wavelegth. I was thinking of some more direct–straight to the jaw-type retribution. Since the real horrors of Obamacare have yet to be felt the mass public's verdict is still out.
KrautYAMMER is a pig. Sorry I just can't STAND that uppity frog. He's been wrong about MORE than he has been right lately yet they keep him employed. WHY? Cuz he has some LETTERS after his name? lmao so does Obambi! BFD! I can't WAIT to see him hyperventilate when SARAH becomes the next CIC. I wish SARAH had a little bit of Hillary in her as far as loyalty goes but I'm afraid she doesn't play that game. Probably another reason I would NOW vote for her instead of anyone! But Richardson is a traitor for sure! Good as toast imo.
You're wrong about loyalty; Sarah knows who is on her side and who puts rocks in her road. And she remembers.
Krauthammer is not, I repeat, is NOT a conservative. While he holds some conservative views on foreign policy, he is not a social conservative. He supports abortion and is against the death penalty.
Krauthammer is for Krauthammer.
He does not speak for the American people. Let the Democrats think that we have given up. They will be in for one huge surprise in 2012 IF the Republicans are smart enough to put up a real conservative candidate.
I must speak up for Krauthammer. I think he’s one of the smartest people in the media. He is conservative fiscally and constitutionally. I don’t think we can afford to kick out people just because they believe abortion is okay and the death penalty is bad (after all, it’s SO damn expensive!). I don’t even care if they hate puppies and smoke cigars – ALL I want is a fiscal conservative who believes in small government. That’s Krauthammer. Don’t let’s start fighting over social issues now – wait till we’ve knocked off the Democrat party for good.
His column, as I read it, was pointing out that the Party of Stupid had given the president pretty much what he wanted and gotten very little for it. Hail to the president! He’s rolled the Stupids! And if he keeps it up, he might sneak back into office on account of his mighty, media-heralded beneficence. WAKE UP, PARTY OF STUPID!
Krauthammer only plays one on TV (Kind of like Andy Griffith playing a small town, presumably conservative sheriff from Mayberry) …very entertaining at times – but not a conservative (Harvard and Carter White House)
We need to refudiate and keep under constant suspicion all conservative elites – especially those from Harvard
1) NO ONE thinks abortion is ‘okay.’ Some people want to keep it legal, some people think it is illegal (as if that would stop it).
2) if the Rs want to hang onto this whole abortion thing, that’s fine – but there’s a whole generation of women out there who would NEVER EVER NOT EVER vote R in their LIFE because of Reagan and his stance on this position. Like it or not, most women think that abortion should be legal (does not mean that abortion is ‘okay’ or ‘good’ or anything like that, just that it should be legal, because that is preferable to what happens when it is illegal. Nothing more, nothing less). Keep hanging your hat on this issue, and the Rs aren’t going to do much better.
MOST people are fiscally conservative and socially liberal…until either side can figure that out, we are likely to go back and forth, every two to four years, and this country will go to sh!t.
Missed a few news cycles due to the holidays, so I apologize for the sketchy info, but wasn't the duplicitous, oleaginous Richardson dispatched on a diplomatic mission to one of the Koreas a week or so ago? Did I hear/read/dream that his performance didn't exactly set the world afire? Might his curious trip have been an out-of-town "tryout" for an appointment to SOS? Question: If HRC serves at the pleasure of the President, might Oba-Mao want to replace her: 1. To impart a subliminal negative impression to the public that her performance as SOS was less than stellar?; and, 2. Seriously attempt to reduce her visibility leading up to 2012?
Anybody?
Obama couldn’t get rid of HRC if she didn’t want to go. I’d love to see him try to do that. That would be an interesting situation.
She is not someone who gets off the stage when told until she is ready to go on her own.
IF there's anything to the rumor, that point is the crux of the matter – only Hillary says when she leaves. So if she has decided to leave for any reason, even if it's just to abandon a sinking ship, Obama might pick Richardson to repay him and as a weak slap in the face to Hillary. (total speculation here)
The funny thing about that would be Hillary still wins – Richardson would get a first class ticket on the S.S. Obama.
Otherwise, I agree with everything you said in your OP, Kevin.
Honestly, I have been following HRC since I was in grade school.
It would be against her character to allow Richardson to become SoS. He wants it bad. She hates him. She won’t let him have it.
That’s classic HRC. She just won’t allow him that.
I’ve been on conference calls, back during the 2008 campaign, when I heard her swear. She is a very real, very human, person. No one I know would give Richardson the satisfaction of becoming SoS. No one I know from Hillaryland could imagine HRC allowing Richardson to be SoS.
It just not like her.
And I complete believe you about HRC.
I was just saying that if she decided to leave (a huge “if”), maybe she wouldn’t have complete sway over who Obama then picks.
I mentioned this just as a very gray area possibility. I’m inclined to agree that Richardson will not get that job, and that he should have been employed at Arby’s long ago.
I just think she won’t leave because she wouldn’t want to create a window for either Richardson or Kerry to get what they want. She will just enjoy traveling the world and being SoS, and start setting herself up for her next adventure, which will be some sort of Foundation like her husband’s.
I would love to see her end her political career as a Governor somewhere. Arkansas? Illinois? New York? Somewhere else? I doubt it will happen, but it would be fun.
I love the woman on a personal level and always will…and it will haunt me forever that she didn’t punch Obama hard and beat him into the ground in 2007 with the Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United stuff that could have destroyed him, or exposed Pigford and what Obama did there in South Carolina, or decimated John Edwards before Iowa…and those were all play-it-safe strategic mistakes that cost her the presidency. She owns those mistakes because she signed off on them, even though it was Mark Penn, Terry McAulliffe, and Bill that probably urged her to make them.
She has another 30 years or so on the American stage, and anything is possible with HRC, so I will look forward to following all of her many adventures….but I can tell you this: she will not willingly do anything that gives Bill Richardson a prize he wants, and she is powerful enough to not be forced to do anything she doesn’t want to do.
You can take that to the bank.
Not clobbering Obama on all of those things-McCain is also guilty of that.
That’s what I don’t get. She should could and SHOULD have stopped BO being prez. Why on earth didn’t she? She has the power, for sure, and she has to hate him as much or more than she hates Richardson.
I’ll admit I’m politically naive, but how does a cabinet member call the shots whether he/she stays or goes? Blackmail? Threats? Intimidation?
Do you think Incompetano, Gibbs, Holder and Geithner are on Zippy’s Gotta Go short list?
A regular Cabinet member couldn't call any shots…but this is Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton.
She has an army of supporters in Winter Quarters who do not like Obama. If she did not want to leave State, but Obama wanted to force her out, all she would have to do is make noise that she was being forced out and all Hell would break loose for Obama and the Democrat Party.
That is the last thing he needs.
There are no other Cabinet members that have this sort of nationwide independent power base of loyalists.
So, she is anomalous.
So Kevin, do you think Hillary WILL step down as SOS? And, if so, why? I certainly can’t imagine her stepping completely off the stage for any length of time. Or do you think this is Obama’s way of floating a trial balloon to see what the public reaction would be to 1) Hillary leaving and 2) Richardson as SOS. It’s well known that Washington insiders use the press in this way, meaning “leaking” stories that may or may not happen just to gauge public reaction. The Clintons were masters at this.
I think she will finish the term as SoS.
It’s a nice excuse for her not to have to campaign for anyone in 2012.
There’s no advantage to her leaving early at this point.
I totally agree with that!
Given how much Hiliary hates Obama and how much Obama hates Palin, any thought that could work in Sarah's favor?
What if Hillary wants to saddle Obama with Richardson? It could be a matter of clobbering two top-of-the-list targets with one stone.
See, the same logic would have applied to Princess Caroline then.
She would have gotten her way…and Obama would have had an idiot in the Senate to make him look stupid.
So it would have been similar to your Richardson scenario, but we saw that HRC was against giving Princess what she wanted…and she is against giving Richardson what he wants.
The tie with Richardson as SOS is much closer and more apparent than Princess Caroline. Obama could have shifted blame to Gov. Patterson for the latter, claiming he supported her as a favor. That excuse shouldn’t work as well for Richardson because the Prez nominates his own cabinet members.
I just don't see HRC ever creating a scenario where either Richardson or Kerry gets to have his way and be SoS after her.
It's out of her character to allow people she hates to get something they want if she can help it.
Staying in the SoS position until the next president is in office is a way for her to do this.
She gains nothing by leaving early…and someone she doesn't like gets something he wants if she goes…so why should she leave?
Sometimes stepping back and letting jerks settle the nooses about their own necks can be so satisfying…
But that is a different style of tactics from what you have seen Hillary use. Maybe I'm just wishing she would let Obama and the children sink. She has gotten tarred unfairly over too much while serving as SOS. (Not counting earlier mistreatment by Obama and the Dems.) I'd like her to have the opportunity to sit back and have some good belly laughs at the stooges' expense.
So …. help me understand. Does HRC’s need to mete out punishing grudges explain the 900 FBI files? I love a good revenge story as much as the next person, but that always seemed to me a little, well, unlawful.
Good lord HB.
Thank God Hillary is staying in at SOS. Whatever my political disagreements with Hillary, she is infinitely better than either William Rich or John Kerry. I couldn't fathom that corrupt bearded punk or that obnoxious, clueless fraud being our face around the world.
Though yeah the Clinton penchant for revenge is pretty scary stuff. I wouldn't want to be William Rich right now.
I think what did in Richardson in 2008 was being caught in a lie regular people – like us- can understand…for 4 decades he lied continuously about being drafted by the Pirates, Dodgers, or A’s depending on which story he was telling – we will never forget when he had to come clean saying his own research led him to conclude after 4 decades that there was no evidence to support his being drafted – in other words he lied about professional sports -
Speaking of sports – my favorite was when Obama was in the broadcast booth for a Sox game (right after his girly throw to home plate – remember?). The video is hilarious as is another classic with Barky and his puppet masters are caught short again without TOTUS – but for some reason MLB has since blocked the video – no worries as the transcript is just as scary:
Dibble:
“Having played with the White Sox for a short time, I know how the Cubs fans and White Sox fans go back and forth. Who was one of your favorite White Sox players growing up?”
Obama:
“You know uh ….. I … I thought that … uh …. you know … the truth is a lot of the Cubs I like too! But, uh … I did not become a Sox fan until I moved to Chicago. Because I uh …. I was growing up in Hawaii so I ended up actually being an Oakland A’s fan. But when I moved to Chicago, I was living close to what was then called Cominsky Park, went to a couple of games and fell in love, and the nice thing about the Sox is, it’s real, blue collar baseball. Ya know, we always tease about the Cubs, they’re up at Wrigley, sipping wine.”
there is so much in that paragraph alone for a year’s worth of jokes – and RINO’s continue to say Sarah is unelectable? go Sarah! taking on Barky is too easy – all she has to do is show up!
your right she does hate him.
Plus he is corrupt, The New Repblican Governor found out he lied about how much the state is in debt. The budget shortfall is twice as big as he said.
But Clinton might leave her post to run for President. Hillay knows she can’t win in the Democratic Primary against Obama, however if something imbarrassing comes out about Obama she would be ready to jump into the race. So this is her last chance of running for office. 2016 she will be old and I don’t think she would want a high pressure jobs, especially if she becomes a grandma.
I doubt that Bill Richardson would ever be confirmed as SoS. He was appointed to some other role in 2009 but he got rolled because of pay to play or something like that….
With the new Senate I doubt that he would ever have the numbers to get any position.
Otherwise, I think that Kevin is more likely right, that HRC would not roll over for a creep like Richardson or for creepy John Kerry.
Are there many people as unqualified as Richardson to be SOS? Really? He'd actually nominate him? Wow.
