Why Mitt Romney Will Lose to Barack Obama: Dogs Against Romney and “I Ride Inside” Campaign
Anticipating that the Cocktail Party GOP establishment will succeed in crowing Willard “Mittens” Romney the 2012 Republican nominee, Democrats have ginned up the DogsAgainstRomney.com website and have launched an interactive “I Ride Inside” campaign — where dog owners are encouraged to take pictures of their pets riding inside cars, as opposed to Seamus “Mutt” Romney (the family pet that Romney strapped to the top of his car on a long trip to Canada in the mid-1980s).
There’s a Facebook group that adds new “I Ride Inside” images every day — often generating hundreds of irate comments from people who swear to punish Romney in the general election for what he did to his Irish setter, Seamus.
For some reason, far too many Republicans are failing to see how big of a deal this “Mutt Romney” issue will be if Romney becomes the nominee.
While it’s true that Democrats will malign whoever becomes the Republican nominee, there are some lines of attack that are more effective and emotional than others, with visuals that the Tolerant Left is able to expertly twist to clobber Republicans in elections. Abuse of animals is one of these areas, since there’s no way to argue that “people back in the 80s didn’t know better and what he did wasn’t all that bad”.
Sarah Palin never said “I can see Alaska from my house”, but that didn’t matter to the millions of people who bought the Democrats’ line of attack that she was stupid and this was proof.
Millions of people will not buy Romney’s weak explanation for why he strapped his dog to the roof of his car — they will only pay attention to the “I Ride Inside” efforts and concur it was cruel, cold, and callous of Romney to tie his dog to the roof and barrel down the highway.
Has anyone ever been elected to high office whose opponents accused him of cruelty to animals as beloved as dogs?
If you’re a Romney fan who is reading this, instead of your typical behavior (which is to be angry that I am bringing this issue up) why not try to find a way to disarm this “Mutt Romney” attack before the general election.
I honestly don’t know how to do that — but if you are someone who is convinced that Romney can beat Obama, I would like to know how you prevent the “I Ride Inside” angle from being effectively used against him.
Thoughts?
Below the fold I copied just one of the lengthy exchanged on Facebook over this so that you can see for yourself how revved up animal lovers get over “Mutt Romney” once they find out about the “Seamus strapped to the roof of the car” story:

Dogs Against Romney No not bumper stickers. The photos aren’t high resolution for printing. But I’ll work on some designs that can be bumper stickers. We DO have some other bumper stickers tho: http://www.cafepress.com/dogsagainstromneyFriday at 11:05pm · -
Jim Adams I think Bailey should be the mascot, perfect. When I first heard this story I couldn’t believe the type of person who would do this. I don’t pretend to understand people but wow, just wow. Imperious much, Mitt ?Saturday at 6:43am · -

Kevin, this is such an important point and I'm so glad you are bringing it up. I don't know what defense Romney can possibly use that will counter this….but at least republicans have to think ahead and realize this could potentially be a game changer if it isn't handled right (if, indeed, there is a right way to handle it). Thanks for this.
No one cares. this is old news. This was a safe airtight kennel and Romney admits he should have not done this.
But the debt is so serious Obama shouldn't win
You are so right about this–it will be a huge issue and the Obama regime is already planitng the image of Obama and Bo lovingly snuggling in the Limo–I am sure the ads and SNL parodies are already to go. A disaster of epic proportions.
Just an example of the verbal and other gaffes Muttens Romneycare makes. I can't imagine Ron Paul doing that.
it makes me angry when dems claim to be the "party for animal rights" and people blindly follow them, thinking they really are
obama takes wolves off the endangered species list in the lower 48.
nov 30 2011 obama signs into law a bill that allows plants to open back up for horse slaughter in america.
yes i understand wolves are dangerous and their numbers are up, but remember the ads with palin shooting them from planes when in fact she has never hunted wolves ever? where's the ads with teh one and his party mowing down a litter of cubs?
horse slaughter is never good. we don't eat the meat; they are killed inhumanely; and it encourages irresponsible ownership. there is a great pro/con article in horse illustrated (march's issue)
I happen to live in the area where the "horse controversy" is a big issue. As usual, there is another side to the "killing of horses". Before the do-gooders and government got involved in the horse issue, it was managed very well. Native Americans were given the responsibility in my state. They kept disease and numbers controlled by innoculating the horses on the range and developed a plan to manage the population. (contd)
The horse slaughter was complicated. Horses were still being slaughtered, they were just now being piled into hot trucks and taken hundreds of miles in horrible conditions to Mexico to be killed. People with old horses, or unsound horses- or who due to the economy were no longer able to afford the upkeep of a horse were left with no solutions. There are tons of unwanted horses in the USA right now as the number of people who can afford them dwindles. At least if the slaughterhouse is in this country there is some change that more humane policies will be followed as opposed to some horrid place in Mexico. There is no right solution for this other than getting the economy moving so people don't feel they have to kill their horses out of desperation.
obama promised to adopt a dog from a shelter. instead he gets an obscure breed of dog from ted kennedy's private breeder.
biden also got his german shepherd from a private breeder, rather than adopt or go thru and rescue, and let's not forget obama's call to the eagles telling them how great it was they gave that dogkiller vick a second chance.
Dogs who ride inside the car always want to put their head out the window anyway.
Cont. from above
Population control was actually a source of income to the Native because horse meat is consumed in Europe in much the same manner that cattle are eaten in this country. The Native Americans were allowed to slaugher and sell the meat to the European market but once the government and Mrs T. Boone Pickens got involved in Nevada, the Native Americans who depended on the care and sale of horses were cut out. The Left looking out for the deprived yet again. Now, after years of mismanagement by the feds, it is now being proposed to go back to the original method of management, mainly because the uncontrolled disease in "wild" horses have infected the domestic horse population and is a huge problem as well as the fact that the feds (Bureau of Land Management) does not allocate the funds to properly "manage" the growing herds and many of the horses are found dead on the range for lack of food.
this is nice and all, but i don't care. the government has done a horrible job managing everything. the island of assateague is known for it's wild ponies. the fire dept rounds them up every year to keep the population down by auction. they also utilize birth control. there are mustang round ups too, and i understand there are just plain horrible owners, owners who can't make ends meet anymore or care for their animal and all kinds of factors. but eating horses is like eating dogs: they have helped us ascend to the civilization we are today as partners and this is a slap in their gorgeous little faces. not only that, but (as per the HI article), horsemeat is tainted either thru meds responsible owners have had to administer, or disease thru irresponsible ownership so very few of these horses are really even edible.
my comments got all broke up all over the place because the site was wonky today.
There is a group that was started on FB named "Pet Lovers AGAINST Obama". Couldn't resist, had to join.
My counter suggestion is: Dogs4Romney -Off the Chain and have people post pix of their dogs doing unusual stuff. Dogs looking happy riding in cars with their heads hanging out the window. I've seen dogs on motorcycles, pix of them surfing and scuba diving. The Dogs of War pix were amazing expecially the dog jumping out of the plane. And the PETA crowd is always yelling abuse and telling people what to do with their dogs. So have pix of real dogs doing really fun, outside the box stuff. It's also has a double-meaning of people tired of the nanny state trying to wrap them in the chanis of political correctness.
Maybe Mittens will get the cat-lover vote instead…
If he gets the nom, we should do a website “KittensForMittens.”
)
Oh, I like that! There are all sorts of videos where the cat is out smarting the dog…
I was shocked when I heard the story. But it shows indifference and that is a high risk for Romney. The problem for me is that I see Romney as a Democrat. The article, "Mitt Romney the Democrat in the Republican Trojan Horse" defines him as he really is. He may well cause us to lose the election.
http://www.unifiedpatriots.com/2012/02/05/mitt-ro…
Okay, this is how I see it… I have worked for very wealthy people. Most of them nice, but out of touch in regard to the real world we live in. It does not make them bad people, just a product of their environment.
So here goes….Based on my experience, wealthy people like that have help…lots of it…Maid, house manager, yard men or women, accountants, and yes even personal shoppers to purchase their groceries (meat store, produce market, fish, what have you) they even put the groceries away. People like that rarely have the ability to think on their own and have "people" to take care of it. People of Romney's stature very rarely if ever travel in a vehicle for a long trip…It was a publicity stunt I guess….The help must have been off that day, or the person in charge of travel was not available.
There is nothing wrong with making that kind of money. They generally employee lots of people. Again, nothing rude, but these people are not normal, they do not think as the average normal person does. There was no one available to tell them that the family dog also rides in the car with the family…and truth be told, they were used to taking a plane.
then apparently there is a something wrong with making that kind of money: lack of common sense. other than that, no, there is nothing wrong and i don't begrudge anyone their wealth. only their lack of brains.
Yeah, it really is the oddest thing. I lost my job in 2007 and had to make a career change. (mortgages)..I was taking care of my mom anyway who has Alzheimer's so decided why not? It's what i do best. I started caring for parents of a very wealthy family and the rest have been word of mouth by them. Not one of these fine families would ever have taken a camping trip. I worked in their homes with a huge staff…and they have help to take care of everything.
my original comment got broke up but the gist is:
dems do not have the corner on animal rights and that needs to be hammered home if they go thru with this romney story- especially this administration.
BO and biden didn't adopt so they don't care about animals who were thrown away to shelters or rescues.
obamao praised the eagles for hiring known dog killer michael vick.
peta is a crazy far left organization that euthanizes animals rather than rehome them.
this administration has been taking wolves off the endangered species list, which was a horrible problem for palin in 08, and is allowing our best friends in horses to be slaughtered for overseas consumption. so romney put his dog on top and it pooped his pants? that's nothing compared to this stuff.
Soooo, Romney should lock up the "People Who Don't Like Dogs" vote — oh wait, that is the entire Islam population! Lol
Here is how he can counter it. (I'm a Gingrich volunteer btw) This is a post from a guest on author Dan Simmons' website. While it doesn't relate to the dog problem, it proves pretty strongly that Romney is not an uncaring asshole. Read the Snopes link also, it has more details. Really a good story.
—I got this in an email from a friend and it sounded to fantastic to be true so I Snoped it and it turns out it's true:
Quote:
"On Romney's character…. Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where… she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone. That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.” So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.—
