Why Bachmann, Santorum, and Huntsman Didn’t Attempt An Effort to Be On Virginia Ballot
[ How the Cocktail Party GOP establishment does things in Virginia to ensure the "it's his turn!" candidate gets his way.]
Over Christmas weekend, many of you may have missed the full scope of what’s happening in Virginia. The focus has been on the Virginia GOP refusing to check the signature submitted by Willard “Mittens” Romneycare and Ron Paul to verify if either of them have enough valid signatures to be included on a Virginia primary ballot (while disqualifying the attempts made by Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry to be candidates in the Virginia primary).
The really interesting part of all of this is that Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, and Jon Huntsman did not submit any signatures to even attempt to be slotted as candidates on Virginia’s ballot.
Here’s why they, for their individual reasons, didn’t make that effort:
1. Michele Bachmann: Bachmann knew she’d be out of the race by the time the Virginia ballot rolled around, so she didn’t bother to waste the resources in attempting to comply with Virginia’s draconian and excessive ballot requirements. For some time now, Bachmann has been playing attack dog for Romneycare in the Republican debates and in her campaign appearances; she has been consistently attacking whichever “Not-Romney” candidate leads in the polls that day. First it was Perry, then Cain, and now Gingrich. If she’d ever lead in the polls again, I wonder if she’d turn on herself too. I highly suspect there’s been talk between the Bachmann and Romneycare campaigns of a Cabinet post for Bachmann in a theoretical Romneycare administration. The Congresswoman might even be deluded enough to think she has a shot at being Romneycare’s VP (when it’s always been clear the man Romneycare wants as his VP is Tim “Droopy Dog” Pawlenty). There’s no way Bachmann’s getting a VP slot, but she would probably end up Secretary of Health & Human Services or Secretary of Education or something. I believe her quid pro quo is to stay in the race as long as possible through Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and Florida to keep snagging as much “Not Romney” vote as possible so that Romneycare squeaks to a nomination win. In return, she’ll get to leave Congress for a Secretary position in something or another. Why bother trying to meet the excessive Virginia filing requirements when by then she’ll be openly campaigning for Romenycare’s election as one of his surrogates?
Rick Santorum: I don’t believe Santorum has ever really believed he’d be the nominee. This race, for him, has been all about restoring his name and recovering from his 2006 Senate loss in Pennsylvania. Largely, he’s been wildly successful in redeeming himself and presenting his brand to a national audience. I don’t think he’s staying in the race to help Romneycare at all, but I do believe he’s enjoying himself and is savoring every moment of the spotlight he’s been getting. He’ll probably make another Senate bid in the future and will try to present himself as a Cabinet Secretary candidate (but I doubt he’ll get one of the slots in a theoretical Republican administration). Santorum didn’t attempt to meet Virginia’s excessive ballot requirements because he just didn’t have the money, staff, or energy to do so…and like Bachmann, he knows he will not be in the race at that point so why bother?
Jon Huntsman: By the time the Virginia GOP primary rolls around, Huntsman could already have his third party independent candidacy off the ground. It has always been the Left’s plan to push Huntsman towards a vainglorious third party candidacy that will splinter enough Republican votes to allow Barack Obama to squeak to a messy, 1992-style win over Willard “Mittens” Romneycare. The Left and agenda-driven media have been aggressively pushing Romneycare as the Republican 2012 nominee (and, stupidly, the Cocktail Party GOP establishment has been blind to this and has joined in pushing forward Romneycare for their own foolish and self-centered reasons related to the “it’s his turn” and “he will give us campaign jobs” mindset of many in the Cocktail Party); the DNC’s plan has always been to run Romneycare against Obama with a ridiculously wealthy third party character like Huntsman who would usurp enough of Ron Paul’s disgruntled voters to give Obama his one and only hope of re-election. Huntsman is not on the Virginia Republican ballot because by the time Virginia rolls around Huntsman will not be a Republican anymore, but will be a third party spoiler who has positioned himself as “the saner and less caustic Ron Paul”.
The Cocktail Party GOP establishment changed Virginia’s primary rules in November 2011 — very shortly before the filing deadline there — to benefit Willard “Mittens” Romneycare.
The Virginia GOP colluded with the Romneycare campaign in this, even going so far as to use 15,000 as the line of determination in deciding whether a candidate’s petition signatures would be challenged or not; it is no coincidence that Romneycare had at least 15,000 signatures and was excused from any scrutiny. The Romneycare camp knew that 15,000 would be the cutoff well ahead of time. The Gingrich and Perry campaigns had over 10,000 signatures each but not 15,000, so they were not afforded automatic entry onto the ballot without signature scrutiny like Romneycare.
It was a dirty, unseemly move by the Virginia GOP as directed by those in the Cocktail Party GOP establishment who are committed to forcing Willard “Mittens” Romneycare onto Republicans as their “it’s his turn” nominee.
This is going to blow back in their faces in a very big way; I don’t see how the people of Virginia are going to be fired up to vote Republican in November if the Virginia GOP primary is such a joke, with just Romneycare or RuPaul Ron Paul to choose from.
The Cocktail Party GOP establishment is terrified of their “it’s his turn” favorite not having his way, because these people are afraid of losing all the money they’ve counted on as “advisers” or “consultants” to a Romneycare presidential campaign.
In truth, I believe most of these people want to lose the general election to Barack Obama for several reasons.
The most important of these is that the world is going to absolute and total economic Hell in 2012…and Republicans have no idea how to fix it. I’ve heard repeatedly from Republican politico types here in Chicago that there’s loud talk of “letting this all be the Democrats’ mess” and giving Obama two terms so “he has to own all of this forever”. They want Obama to be in the White House when the Second Great Depression is declared, so that the GOP will not get the blame. I’ve heard more than once someone say, “things started getting ugly under Coolidge, but Hoover was in office when it all hit the fan so he’s gone down in history as the villain”. The Cocktail Party GOP establishment wants Obama in the White House when the Depression is officially declared (in early 2013 no doubt)…and is of the mindset that the President elected in 2016 will get to be “a new FDR” and be “seen as a hero and savior” after eight years of economic misery under Barack Obama.
It’s apocryphal that Republicans are in Washington to counteract the Democrats; in truth, the permanent political class comprises both parties and serves its own self-interests. The Cocktail Party GOP aristo-class doesn’t want to beat Obama; they just want to avoid being stuck with the blame for the economic ruin ahead.
They also don’t want to beat “the historic and unprecedented first black president” because they don’t want to be called RAAACISTS! for “taking the presidency away from a black man”. That’s a big part of the reason there’s such a lackluster field of Republican candidates in the race this year. The looming threat of race-baiting and false accusations of racism that will be leveled against any Republican candidate kept a lot of good people out of contention this year.
I honestly believe a large part of why Governor Sarah Palin didn’t run for president is because she didn’t want to deal with the consequences of defeating “the first black president”, and the hatred that would be ginned up against her in the black community for beating him in the general election.
A lot of you might think this is foolish — and it is, on some level — but having the Left fire up the Alinsky Death Star and aim false accusations of RAAACISM! at you is hellish to endure. I understand completely why an individual would not want to set herself up for a nightmare like that, which would haunt her and her family for many years.
But I can’t fathom why the GOP as a group doesn’t work together and eliminate the ability of the Left to hold American politics hostage with the constant threat posed by the Alinsky Death Star.
But, then again, there’s an awful lot of incredibly stupid and cowardly things the Cocktail Party GOP establishment does on a daily basis that absolutely floor and gobsmack me…including so blatently maneuvering to make Willard “Mittens” Romneycare the only candidate besides Ron Paul allowed on the Virginia ballot, which steals a page right out of Barack Obama’s 1996 Illinois Senate run playbook.

The Romney supporters (left and right) are now going back to their "Romney is inevitable so STFU you plebs". Except now there's an added dose of "Lalalalalala I can't here your opposing viewpoints" added in now that his weaknesses are becoming clearer. (Yay? It's new, at least.)

Obama will lose unless the Cocktail Party throws it away. They might just do that – I honestly can't think of a GOP candidate I'd support on their own merits. (And anyone would be better than Teh Won. It's not an achievement.)
The only GOP candidate with the potential to excite the nation as our first ever woman nominated for president by a major party is MICHELLE BACHMANN. The other white men losers are going DOWN in november.
I do not think that Bachmann could excite a dead fish.
That they said about this skinny young Black senator from the Illinois legislature …..
If Bachmann wins Iowa the whole world will be EXCITED just like this skinny Black dude excited the nation when he won Iowa.
I love to see Bachmann win Iowa — and I would love to see Bachmann get back to campaigning on her ideas and vision…and for her to stop just attacking the poll leader to get herself attention. I really liked her a lot in the past but these constant attacks from her have just turned me off. I want to see the old Bachmann back, the one who was very inspiring.
I think your passion for her is great Carmelo. I hope you are phonebanking for her. Now is your chance to support her in Iowa.
Kevin
I think Bachmnann was sidelined because of Palin. Many saw her as an alternative for Palin. Bachmann realized that Palin was not going to run back in May so she went for it. Now that Palin is out some misongynists think there is no room for other woman. I'm contributing to the Bachmann campaign. If God do not chooses her then I would have to wait for Obama's second term. Me and millions of conservatives would better stay home than vote for RomneyCare or NAZI Paul.
The stakes are high in Iowa. If Bachmann or Gingrich are not the winners bye bye GOP and welcome Third Party Trump.
Think I'll finish the nog & Jack this morning… where is Sarah?
Every word you wrote is right on the mark. Obama's poll numbers will soon begin the Long March back, and unemployment numbers are being massaged downward. It's worse than just the rigged GOP nomination, though. All of the GOP down-ticket races will be hurt by the lack of enthusiasm and cynicism engendered by Nomney. I will be surprised if the Republicans end up with a majority in the Senate or make any meaningful increase in their House majority.
What really infuriates me about the Cocktail Party GOP is how they will so easily sell out the country to Obama, assuming that (1) the country has no hope of coming back, even under Republican leadership, and (2) blame for a continued slide will ever accrue to Obama and the Dems. Just watch over the next few months as Obama and Co. keep going back to Blame Bush. Hell, Obama has already taken the blame game thirty years back, smearing fellow Dems and whoever else he can to portray himself as just the tip of the economic iceberg. Unfortunately, it will work for him.
Romney and the VAT
See what happens when we take a couple of days off for the holidays? We missed this interview with Mitt Romney talking about tax policy with the Wall Street Journal, and which may create some mild headaches for the frontrunner in the next few days. The wide-ranging interview touched on many issues as well as campaign themes and the “vision thing,” to use a phrase that hearkens back to the first Bush presidency. Romney wants to push a theme of reform, and in that vein talked about his ideas for comprehensive tax reform, a subject that has the possibilities for wide bipartisan support — or for political disaster, depending on what kind of reform one proposes. He tried to stick to broad, general principles, but the WSJ pinned him down on the idea of a consumption tax:

Once again, these are the choices for our Republican nominee??
Rush said it best, if you don’t like the choices, write in 5 letters:
>>P A L I N<<
Intresting take. ROn Paul is the only one that can fix this mess.
The Virginia primary is way after the important first 4 races. The nominee should be decided after South Carolina. I don't buy the "the GOP wants to fail" thing. Michelle Bachmann is in to win. She understood(unlike us) that Palin was just teasing and never intended to run for president. So she gave it a shot. The GOP wants to win but this party is full of mysingynists and racists: people that don't want women to lead or minorities to win(when Rubio is mentioned they come with the crap that he is not Natural Born Citizen). Saying that Marco Rubio or Luis Fortuno(Governor of Puerto Rico) are not Natural Born Citizens is RACIST, period!
You're right Carmelo. Iowa and NH are the semis and SC is the final. I was for Huckabee (Fair Tax) in 2008. He wins Iowa. Fred Thompson comes into SC to do a cock block and let McCain beat Huckabee by a nose and he wins the nomination.
2008 was the year of the white moderate men in the GOP. None of these old boring losers had a chance against Hillary or Obama. I think even Bill Richardson had a shot!
Huckabee is a fiscal LIBERAL and a RACIST. He defended the Confederate flag when he was going into SC but nothing when he was going to Iowa. Huckabee is an opportunist RAT.
Sorry pal,but defending the Confederate Battle Flag is not racist. Not one soul was brought to this country under that flag.Want a racist flag look towards the British,French,Dutch and yes Old Glory.Look up your history,Even Lincoln said it was about money.Morrell tarrif?Funding northern buildups? As far as Huck being a fiscal liberal,I sir concede.
Kevin, the republican establishment never ceases to amaze. You have to wonder what table scraps the presiding democrat lords of DC will toss to the faithful lapdog GOP in return for throwing the election of 2012. Keep hitting homers!
Huntsman?
Obama’s Personal Ad?
Okay call me ignorant but I hear Levin say this all the time; what does:
RuPaul
mean?
“RuPaul” is a reference to RuPaul Charles, the most famous drag queen working in America. RuPaul hit is big in the 90s with the mainstream pop hit “Gotta Work!” and for a while was treated as an actual supermodel herself, back in the days when Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, and Claudia Schiffer ruled the catwalks. Today RuPaul has the very popular RuPaul’s drag race on the cable channel LOGO, where she hosts a reality competition for up and coming drag queens to perform. Some people call Ron Paul “RuPaul” because it’s similar sounding.
Thanks Kevin…much appreciated.
Here you go. Have a look-see.
You must be cautioned to look carefully, very carefully,
because that is NOT Obama in that drag.

What in the world would the Congress Critters “posture” over if they solved the problems?
They’re worst than a room full of drag queens with only 1 mirror in it!
· I do not think that Bachmann could excite a dead fish.
As a red blooded all American fighting man let me tell you, Bachmann is hot enough to get "it" to move on a statue.
Yea,I would water fountain her too.
This is why we must elect Ron Paul, guaranteed one term president with some support from anti-war / pro-freedom left. Reform minded and not afraid to beat the first black President.
I'm totally off of Bachmann after I found out about her AYE vote for the NDAA back in May. Anyone who vote AYE for that bill is a traitor. She may not have voted on its final passage through the House in December, but it's highly unlikely she would have changed her vote and her silence on this issue now is deafening. She knew back in May that the bill contained language that stripped us of our 5th Amendment rights – Americans' rights to due process, and she didn't care.
I feel I have no choice and have switched to supporting Ron Paul who voted NO in May and discusses the treachery of this bill now. All the other candidates avoid talking about it and to me that says they agree with it.
