Who Is Funding the Purchase of the $35 million Beachfront Hawaiian Estate for Barack and Michelle Obama to Move into Come January 2013?

I’ve done some more digging here in Chicago on the story we brought you on Friday about plans currently underway to purchase a $35 million beachfront estate on the island of Oahu in a part of Hawaii called “Kailua” for the Obama family to move into in January 2013 when they leave the White House.
It’s funny, but “kai” means “victorious” in Mandarin Chinese and you probably know that “lua” is close to the Hawaiian word “luau”, which is of course a large party. It’s more than ironic that a spot in paradise that conjures a mental image of “victory party” will be the place the Obama family moves to in just four months or so, after they’ve been booted from the White House. They surely won’t be in a festive mood after being downgraded from “First Family” to ordinary citizens again, but no doubt the rest of the world will be celebrating.
The woman who is organizing the funding of the Obama’s post-presidential estate is Penny Pritzker (pictured above, in between the worst President since Jimmy Carter and a woman who only dresses appropriately on Halloween or April Fool’s Day), who is also in charge of raising the donations for Obama’s presidential library and museum. The two are more or less the same project, with the priority being to get the $35 million together to fund the purchase of the Obamas’ new home. It appears that Pritzker herself may contribute up to half of the total purchase price, making up the difference from whatever the Obamas could not afford and the fundraising wouldn’t cover. Pritzker is a billionaire who in recent years resolved a long-standing family feud over her late father’s vast business empire that includes the Hyatt Hotel chain as well as assorted manufacturing operations. The wealthiest families in Chicago are being leaned on heavily to contribute with Penny aggressively guilting them with “appeals of you don’t want the President to be homeless in January, do you?”. That’s more or less an exact quote from Penny, if my source within her social group is not paraphrasing.
Fundraising has been lackluster, though, as there is not much interest in helping to fund either the presidential library or the Obama’s new home since Chicagoans are feeling stabbed in the back that the Obamas are abandoning Illinois for the warmer clime of Hawaii; the general consensus is that Chicagoans are waking up to the fact that the Obamas have gotten everything they could out of Chicago and are now moving on to bigger and greener pastures. Kailua offers them all the fancy restaurants, the shopping, the golf, and other amenities they like plus the sunny weather they love and it’s closer to the Pacific and Middle East where Obama believes he’ll command the highest speaking fees as an ex-US president who’ll happily denounce America for years to come for paying foreign crowds, in much the way that Jimmy Carter has earned his living since 1981.
You might not realize this, but this is actually not the first time someone in Chicago has helped the Obamas buy a house beyond their financial reach: convicted felon and Chicago machine political “fixer” Tony Rezko helped the Obamas assemble the funding for the home they currently own in Chicago’s murder and robbery-prone neighborhood known as Hyde Park. Penny Pritzker is making aggressive use of the recent headlines about gunshots being fired and people killed just two blocks or so away from the Obamas’ Hyde Park home, with Pritzker saying, “You don’t want them moving back where there’s gunfire, do you? DO YOU?”.
It’s actually quite common for very wealthy friends of a President to buy him a new home for after he leaves the White House, since most of the people who’ve been President so far were not very rich before they entered office (with Obama being an exception since he had several millions from his book sales before his election).
Here’s how post-presidential homes typically work: the President’s friends and wealthiest supporters chip in to ensure the family leaving the White House has someplace “suitable” to occupy once they are no longer living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Another part of Penny’s fundraising push is that “the Obamas can’t go back to Hyde Park, it just wouldn’t look right, that house is too small and is not suitable for their new stature”. The Obamas are never going to live in Chicago again. They never planned to. But this election has gone south in ways they did not expect before Obama’s infamous “You didn’t build that” comment last month. The plan was always to get them an estate in Hawaii, but it had been to buy them land and then construct a home especially for them. Now that there’s a rush to have something ready by January, the most opulent available home on Oahu must be secured for the Obamas “lest they be homeless” as Pritzker is arguing.
Before that “you didn’t build that, somebody else made that happen” revelation, there was still a (delusional) belief in Obama’s inner circle that Democrats could pull off a win in this election. They also expected Mitt Romney to select Rob Portman or Tim Pawlenty as his VP…and the most delusional of them believed if Paul Ryan was in fact chosen that the Mediscare attacks would sink him…and Romney’s campaign too. When it became quickly and resoundingly clear that Romney/Ryan was a winning combination, the emergency contingency protocols went into effect and Penny Pritzker started the aggressive fundraising push for the post-presidential purchase.
There is no hope of Obama winning the election, and though the corrupt media and Democrats will never admit it, behind the scenes those close to the Obamas have thrown in the towel and are helping plan the Hawaiian move four years earlier than they anticipated just a few months ago.
In the past, friends and large donors had more time to prepare for a President’s departure from the White House. Ronald Reagan’s California pals assembled a funding operation to buy Nancy and him their post-presidential ranch. The Clintons used Bill’s book advance to buy their new home and the Bushes had their friends help them secure the place they moved into in suburban Dallas. Presidential homes are purchased with private funds through false-front entities that hide the true owners to ensure their privacy. Penny Pritzker no doubt has many on her staff working out all these details as well as managing whatever checks come in to support the “Obama Relocation Project”.
Later today I’m interviewing a few people in Hawaii who have more on the ground information of what’s coming towards Kailua with the Obamas’ move there. I’ve made calls and sent emails to both the realtor handling the sale of this property and to Penny Pritzker’s office for a comment from her, but so far I’ve received no answer.

I think Obama deserves another term. How does 30 to life, sound? I love how he clamors and calls for Mitt’s tax returns, while hiding the things he did in school, his lawyer days and how he managed to pay for all thse Ivy-league schools with no job or money.

1. If things are so desperate, then why haven’t we seen Axelrod use the nuclear option – i.e. Romney is a Mormon yet. The Romney campaign is expecting that attack and a lot of what they were doing last week was inoculating Romney from it.
2. Was Ryan the tipping point for the Obama campaign? I get the sense based on past interactions that Ryan really spooks Obama more so than any other politician, including Christie and Rubio. My feeling was that all the stuff out there about how picking Ryan would sink Romney’s campaign was to get Romney not to pick Ryan.
Just saw Axlerod on Chirs Wallace’s show. The guy had on his mask. He was stiff and wooden and just spewing talking points. Geez, I thought those internals must be really bad. He looked like death warmed over. Then later in the morning I spotted Kevin’s posts. Wow. I guess they are so bad that he is planning where to live in 2013. Excellent.
I’ve had the feeling even before Ryan that this was going to be a blowout in Romney’s favor for a long time. The pollsters will are doing their best to keep a lid on it with their statistical maneuvering. Even with all of the voter fraud and pathetic POS we have for an Attorney General the people in America are beginning to see what it might be like to live under a dictatorship and this is not part of the Hope and Change they voted for.
I think the steam roller is in top gear and Ryan is at the controls on this one. People understand the truth when they hear it. The Obama campaign is all old news. NO truth. They are doing stupid things that just backfire on them. Romney is a Morman? Also old news. If that’s all they got it’s pathetic. Harry Reid is a Morman. ‘Nuff said.
Unfortunately, image matters, especially in politics. Romney is competent, but comes off as stiff and can say things that make him seem out-of-touch. Ryan really helps Romney with that problem; he is incredibly likable and “with it.” And he even makes Romney seem hipper and more on message.
Obama team knows that image matters. This is the only reason why Obama is President. That is why it is so puzzling that they’ve spent the last two years setting up Ryan as Obama’s arch-nemesis. Seriously, their strategy was to give the attractive, articulate guy who is a decade younger than Obama and makes him seem passe national prominence. This great strategy ended up backfiring spectacularly on them. Axelrod and co. would have been better served by making someone like McConnell the Republican villain.
Since Axelrod and co. are pretty astute and know that image matters, the only thing that I can think of is that Obama has a personal grudge against Ryan. If you’ve seen the two square-off, you’ll see that Obama usually has his whiny face on because Ryan isn’t at all cowed by Obama. So I think that Obama personally couldn’t help himself by engaging Ryan even though it ended up being a net positive for Ryan.
We saw Ryan in Richmond VA last Friday! He and his family, mother included, were genuine. He was fun to watch and seeing him in action, even if it was the day after the convention ended, gave me hope that we may indeed get rid of the arrogant self loving creep in the White House in November.
Paul Ryan personally beat the pResident face-to-face during the health care debates. If pResident Obama could not get the better of Ryan, Biden can’t dream to. Ryan is young, good-looking, educated, and thinks fast on his feet. A formidable opponent of the teleprompter-in-chief.

Hm. Not sure. I do remember when Clinton got out of office, it took him a while to raise the money for the AR library thing, when GWB started to raise funds, it raised like 100 million or something within days, the lefty MSM had a field day… “oooo, the evil rich giving money to Bush”.

Maybe she’s not raising the $$$ or giving $$$ for the campaign because she is giving so much for the house and library. We’ll see how successful she is, and also whether the campaign can raise some cash once the convention is over. Interesting that she’s having some trouble securing donations. Although the people she’s raising money from are the very super-rich people who Obama wants to raise taxes on! I never understand why rich people EVER give to Democrats, except as a hedge against liberal policies. You may notice that rich Dems usually get exceptions for themselves written in to the tax code.

Clinton, donated his leftover campaign funds to his library and then promptly hired himself. It took a while to iron out the details but it has enabled him to retire fat and happy. I wouldn’t put it past Obama to do the same thing.
I’m not certain that Obama will have left over campaign money. His campaign lacks fiscal discipline and now that Romney can access his general election funds, Obama et al are going to feel even more pressure to keep up on spending.
I think he loves to hear himself talk waaaay to much and will either try to be the head chief of the UN or he can always give speeches on how great marxism is to mush heads at college campuses for $500,000. a pop. No, he will not go quietly into that good night.
Obama at the UN! That thought actually makes me sick to my stomach. Lets face it folks, the UN may be the greatest “international” threat to America. From their hatred of free speech to their hatred of private property rights, to their hatred of guns, & their obvious hatred of our Constitution & the “limited” enumerated rights within, the UN represents the greatest threat to individual human freedom there has ever been. The will do their dirty deeds quietly, and they will sell the idea they are working to do average people a favor.Those who actually control the UN with their incredible wealth, do so from behind the scenes, & they have every intention of pushing for their own messianic plans.
To be in the UN, Obama would have to get an appointment as an ambassador or special envoy. I don’t think any future President is going to make that appointment. Besides, I don’t think they allow teleprompters at the UN.
The more interesting question is: What is Obama going to put in his library? Presidents Nixon and Johnson had long political lives so their libraries are full of artifacts. Half of President Reagan’s is from his political life and half is from his life in Hollywood. After being through Nixon’s library, I found Reagan’s to be sparse. So I cannot even imagine what Obama’s library would be like. I believe Obama has claimed that he doesn’t have papers from his time as a state senator and there are no articles from the Harvard Law Review. Perhaps there will be halls where you push a button at a station to hear one of his speeches which would echo off the the walls of the empty library. The listening stations would be interspersed between pictures of Obama with halos around his head or framed magazine covers “the one”. Perhaps there will be a display from Ancestry.com of Obama’s family tree showing his alleged relationship to John Punch, the “first slave”, through his mother since the Obama team hasn’t spoken a word of this since day that it was announced.
I am thoroughly convinced in the not so distant future, we are going to see Barack Obama channel Norma Desmond. Can’t you just imagine him wandering around his library reminsicing about his glorious utopian presidency, resplendid with all the pictures/images of his four years in office, wide eyed and delusional muttering about how he didn’t get smaller, the world did. I can really see him in his media projection room (I’m sure that is something he would want in his new home) so that he can watch tv interviews of himself and listen to his own speeches and worse, listen to himself read his own e-books. Ugh.
Trust me, when he loses in November, his melt down is going to be epic.

Great piece, Kevin. Kailua is the richest Honolulu suburb and I’m not so sure there’s any oceanfront lots to build on, so even if there’d be time, this is their best bet.
Reagan bought his ranch at the end of his second term as governor, in 1974, so it predated his presidency–he used it for vacations as president.

The SEAL who supposedly wrote the book about the Osama Raid may be lying about being at the compound or didn’t get back on the helicopter.
A neighbor saw the helicopter explode after the Seals and the phony dead Osama got on the helicopter. The slimiest was Bill Clinton and his triangulated pardon of Marc Rich and Denise Rich’s $450,000 plus donation to the Bill Clinton Presidential Library and hot tub. Can you say QUID PRO QUO? Mr. Rich is now free to travel the world and the US taxpayers will never see the $48 million in taxes or the $100 million fine which he never paid. Thanks Bill.

I wouldn’t even begin to fathom what the property taxes would be on a $35 million dollar home in Hawaii. If the Obamas’ are worth about $10 million, how long will that last with the lavish lifestyle they’ve become accustomed to? Michelle is a spendthrift and I can’t see the money lasting long with her expensive tastes. I mean come on, she spent $50,000 in lingerie on one of her sprees and banks are only paying 1-1.5% interest on money these days. Not enough to keep up with her.

The Pritzkers owned a large chunk of Superior Bank. Penny was the chairwoman from 1991 until sometime in 1994. They loaned a lot of money to subprime borrowers. It will be a “charitable trust” such that is is a non-profit and thus non-taxable organization. The same way the Kennedy money has been passed down generation to generation. The same way Congressman Kennedy was driving a Mustang convertible he crashed into a concrete barrier in DC several years ago. It was not his, but was ‘provided’ by a charitable trust or similar. They don’t have to buy stuff, it is given to them, so they don’t need ‘personal’ money beyond a minimum.
