Where does the Left get the idea that Republicans want to “round up gays” and put us in camps?

Posted on October 24, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Gay Bullying, The Left

Here’s something I’d like to accomplish this week — to research where the lie originates that Republicans want to “round up” gays, lock us in camps, and kill us.

Go ahead and laugh, but I swear I see this lie repeated over and over again in the gay community.  It’s something the Gaystapo goon squad uses to bully gays to never consider voting conservative or for a Republican candidate.

This “Republicans are evil and want to round us up!” trope is rolled out not only in the low-information circles of Facebook, but in many gay publications that claim to be at least somewhat credible.

I’d love to work up a dissection of where this lie comes from, who originates it, and why the Left feels it’s so effective at keeping gay voters on the Democrat reservation (where they blindly vote against their own economic best interests because the DNC keeps telling them that if you are gay you must vote Democrat — since, according to the lie, Republicans are evil and want to murder gays).

The 2012 election is going to be the nastiest and most emotionally-charged in our lifetime.  The Left currently enjoys power like never before, and will not give it up without an epic fight.

I really want to do something to prohibit the Left from using this “Republicans want to round you up and kill you” lie in the gay community in the year ahead…and taking this Alinsky cudgel away from the Left requires a solid look at where this lie comes from, who spreads it, and why the Left needs to rely so heavily on it.

Thoughts?

Early in the AIDS epidemic, quarantines were discussed. I think that morphed into “Reagan wants to put us in concentration camps.”

That started with the Lyndon LaRouche (or however his name is spelled) presedential campaign back in the '80's. Nowadays, a certain cult that likes to protest @ military funerals pretends to be conservatives when they protest, so we get painted with that brush, too.

If you follow closely you will notice that the left is constantly accusing the right, be it Republicans or Conservatives, of doing things the left is actually doing themselves, or want to do themselves. It’s sort of a pre-emptive strike so when they get caught they can accuse you of being sour grapes on them and take away from the truth being exposed. In my opinion, this is just another example of that – some on the left are who really would want to put gays in some kind of camp.

Or it may just be an example of the usual fearmongering of the left, like when they say Republicans want to take away old people’s Social Security.

I have always considered to be the biggest lie that the Left has put out. I can't begin to wonder where exactly this came from. This is not what I believe in because I believe in freedom and for each of us to behave in a manner so that we are decent human beings to each other. That absolutely does not include rounding up anyone. I always tell my kids, if you impose a law for one group, that precedence will come back to haunt you. I hope you find out Kevin.

I guess I am a completely naive Oklahoma homemaker who happens to have a gay brother-in-law who I love dearly. I have not heard this and am sickened by it. My bil is a conservative and I will ask him what he is hearing in the gay community here. This crap must stop!

Just looking at the question from the outside, I would say this lie comes from the same place as the lie to the black community that says they have to vote democrat. There are power brokers within the dem party calling the shots and pigeon holing groups of folks.

    Good luck weeding them out.

The idea seems to be a new twist on "religious people want you to die of AIDS." Substitute "Republican" or "conservative" for "religious people / evangelicals" and add the fascist imagery that has been attached to conservatives since the Nixon administration and voila! The fact that so many in the gay community seem to believe this tripe says something about their worldview in general.

Look at the anti semitism coming from the left, and OWS. The nazi, and communist parties both endorse the OWS.

Everything the left projects onto Conservatives, is what they themselves are. Not all, but this is what is taught. I'm certain of that, or we wouldn't see history repeating itself before our eyes.

These kinds of accusations concern me a great deal. Not because they're hurled at us conservatives, but because of what may come from this. Hitler was not fond of gay people and we know how he dealth with this. It's disgusting the way the left plays this…and it needs to be stopped right now!!!

Oh, that's easy. First, the Rs have been sort of kind of taken over by the religious right. And they think that the 'gay lifestyle' is wrong.
So, many people think: oh, no, so and so thinks something is wrong – they must want to make it illegal! they must want to stop it all costs…which is a HUGE leap to make for people…but they do it anyway.

There are probably plenty of people who 'disapprove' of my 'lifestyle.' Does that make me change my lifestyle? um, no. They can go stuff it. I do what I do, and there you go. and they aren't telling me that I'm damned to hell, etc, they just may 'disapprove.' Well, great for them…I'm sure there are people's lifestyles I 'disapprove' of. But that doesn't mean that I would spend one minute worrying about them(i guess unless said behavior was illegal or someone was incredibly close to me and on drugs, or something like that but i've learned recently no matter how much you love someone you can't live their life for them….).

Well it’s not quite “round up all the gays and put us in camps” but the 2010 Texas GOP platform included plans to re-criminalize sodomy, and make gay marriage a felony, both are/were pretty much unworkable though.

This is sort of off topic but it is ironic that the left is saying that Republicans are trying to get them into camps when one of their heroes actually did that. In the early 80's at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic gays in Cuba infected with AIDS were put away in a large house in the country somewhere. So, if anything it is a more leftist way of doing think that conservative.

Well, the only thing I can think of is that leftists spend a lot of time–a lot of time–accusing Republicans of what they are, themselves, guilty. Not saying that leftists want to round up gays, but we all know they, or at least the radical elements like Bill Ayers and even that hag Roseanne Barr, LOVE the idea of "reeducation" camps. Maybe they got their camps all mixed up?

A GWM here . . . which doesn't mean "guy with money" as one of the main characters in the movie "Kiss Me, Guido" mistakenly believes. I realized I was a political conservative shortly after Jimmy Carter became president. I was in third grade then. I came out of the conservative closet shortly thereafter, and by the time Ronald Reagan became president I was a FLAMING conservative. My parents accepted that readily. So I've never had an excuse for blaming my parents for not accepting me.

I am also a Christian . . . a Queer Republican for Jesus, hence QR4J. My theory is this: Piss 'em all off if it is the right thing to do. When needed, the J stands for Jews. Cuz I love them too!

Above, some of you used the word "projection" regarding the leftists. How about some on the right who are so darn vocal? Rick Santorum, at least for a while, seemed to spend his every waking hour railing and screaming about homosexuality and bestiality. I think the guy is a closet case, and if he makes the mistake of pursuing the Presidential slot on the ballot, he'll be exposed.

A friend just indicated that Mr. Santorum said that he would ensure no federal funding for contraception (huh? what do they fund, really? ) – which I took to mean no contraception to be covered byfederal health plans. He is a lunatic. The Rs do themselves no favors with this idiotic rhetoric.
