Wednesday Open Thread: April 21st, 2010

Posted on April 21, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your minds this Wednesday?

What are people talking about in your part of the country?

*******************************************************

Today, we’re finishing up our analysis of Governor Palin’s “Lifeguard Speech” in Washington, IL this last Saturday.  We’re also working on the research we need for an article we want to do for Palin supporters on how we can take the word “polarizing” away from the media, so they can’t use it as a weapon against women like Palin any longer.  We’ve said before that Palin is a lot like Buffy the Vampire Slayer in many ways — she’s beautiful, tells it like it is, has a quick, sharp wit, and is underestimated constantly by  her foes.  She also has talents and strengths beyond the average person — and, frankly, seems like she was put here by destiny just when the world most needed saving.

If Palin’s Buffy, we’ll be her Xanders, and we hope the rest of you join our Scooby Gang too.  And, as good Scoobies, we play the support role so the Slayer can do her thing out there…so it’s research time on all the uses of the word “polarizing” employed against Palin…so that we can think of a way to magically turn this misogynistic/sexist code word against the Left.

One suggestion from a reader is to morph it into polar-ICING.   As in, Palin’s going to “polar ice” the country, and bring some of her common sense Alaskan can-do know-how to clean up the mess the Left has made of the country.  You betcha.

For those of you who have no idea what the Buffy references are all about, you’ll just have to bear with us, because it’s the most awesome show that ever was (even if Robby’s sister Ann-Louise still swears, to this day, that Sarah Michelle Gellar stole the title role away from her…thus starting a never-ending blood feud between a delusional 36 year old and a Hollywood actress that’s never heard of her).

I guess I just don’t get the icing part. Maybe it’s only me, but I liked where it was going with the “polarize me”, cuddling polar bears, and more, and the icing just makes me feel cold and think of ice and icicles = (

Is it a play on the phrase “icing on the cake”?

That is how I thought of it, but I’m sure there are more interpretations. Whatever works!!—-

Looking forward to the next part of the Sarah Palin write-up.

I recently came to Sarah Palin’s defense against several liberals on Facebook. Of course the traditional criticisms of her surfaced: “she’s a quitter”, “my gut tells me she’s bad news”, “she’s a diva” (which is code for “she’s a successful conservative woman”), etc.

Of course these are all easily shot down with the presentation of facts, but one criticism that I couldn’t respond to was Sarah Palin attending four different colleges. This, in and of itself, is not indicative of anything in particular, but I am not quite sure how to address it specifically.

I usually just go to my standby, which is to ask the liberals point blank which policies of Palin’s they disagree with and why. That generally shuts them up.

Anyway, I don’t think I changed any minds of the liberals I was specifically arguing with, but I did score some points over them because of how they just bashed her without facts and refused to acknowledge ANYTHING good about her, including her taking on her own party for corruption in Alaska.

I did pick up two new Facebook friends who happened to read over the posts and liked them enough to friend me.

The moral of this story is, don’t be afraid to argue the facts with someone you know can’t be swayed, because you might reach someone who’s on the fence. So long as you present your argument rationally and with facts to support, and be respectful of the other side no matter how vitriolic they get, you can definitely win hearts and minds.

I’m only aware of Palin having attended two colleges — Hawaii (for one semester) and Idaho. What are the others? The other criticism I hear along these lines is that it took Palin more than 4 years to earn her degree — it took five because she paid her own way and sometimes had to take a semester off to earn $$$ to go back. (Going Rogue, pp. 41-45.)

      • EricP says:
        2010/04/21 at 3:22 am

From what I read, she attended the following:

        Hawaii Pacific University

        North Idaho College

        University of Idaho

        Matanuska-Susitna College (Alaska)

University of Idaho (2nd time, graduated)

I actually don’t know the story behind it. Was she moving around with Todd as he was working? Was it money related?

        • AFinch says:
          2010/04/21 at 3:26 am

Don’t know. Maybe one of the C4Pers know — they seem to be pretty clued into all things Palin.

        • ssmith says:
          2010/04/21 at 5:57 am

I think she didn’t have money, since she was paying her own way thru school.

So, when she needed to earn money to continue, she went back to AK to earn it. And I guess, she may not have liked that school and so transferred to another.

I do remember it being a money issue b/c she kept going back to AK to earn $$, she worked at a fish plant from what I have read over the summers.

        • Mark says:
          2010/04/21 at 6:15 am

Read her book…any Palin supporter should read her book…GOING ROGUE…then you will know…and yes…SHE PAID HER OWN WAY THROUGH COLLEGE…”they” will try to use that against her though..that she went to so many different schools..

        • Cherry Walker says:
          2010/04/21 at 8:49 am

Key point…she paid her own way! Unlike Dr. Utopia who most likely went to schools as an affirmative action student…or as a foreign student…but of course we can’t prove that since all his records are sealed.

        • CatieR says:
          2010/04/21 at 11:14 am

Sarah should announce her candidacy & challenge Obama on college transcripts & other records:
“My records are open — why do you refuse to release yours?” or

“I’ve shown you mine, now let’s see yours!”

      • PhillyCon says:
        2010/04/21 at 7:30 am

I agree with Mark, if you are going to defend Sarah in any way, so MUST, MUST, read Going Rogue. I am in the middle of it myself. She explains why it took her so long graduate. Her parents told all their kids, “you are paying your own way.” So, as ssmith, noted she had to go back to AK and work.

When people attack her on the school issue, it makes them look elisist and spoiled. “What did daddy pay your way through school, and you look down on anybody who didn’t?”

        • Julia NYC says:
          2010/04/21 at 9:05 am

Palin’s working through college is a huge strength and is far more prestigious than Obama’s extremely questionable “college career” that no one can find anything about due to all of those sealed records, and to the bizarre fact that he seemed to have no friends in college and was a extremely unmemorable student to all of his professors. This, the future President of the United States? Friendless and unmemorable? Hmmmmm. Curioser and curioser.

As for taking five years and changing a lot of schools, I don’t blame her. A lot of state schools are frankly tough to go to and to graduate from. A lot are not exactly inspiring places due to the fact that so many are factories, just taking in anyone and everyone for the cash cow large class undergrad courses, and who cares about the actual quality of the university. I’m not surprised she was unhappy and kept trying to find a good one. Didn’t she also have a child while she was attending college? And she still graduated, while working her way through. How liberals of all people who are always going on and on about the working man, can look down on her for adulthood is amazing to me.

She is far more impressive and inspiring than many a Ivy Leaguer.

        • EricP says:
          2010/04/21 at 6:59 pm

Going Rogue is on my reading list for sure… but I always have a giant reading list. Maybe I will have to escalate her book to the top.

        • Mark says:
          2010/04/21 at 8:29 pm

She didn’t have any children while attending college…she wasn’t even married then…but after graduating she went back to Alaska and her and Todd soon married…in a very official/unofficial wedding ceremony…you have got to read that book NOW if you haven’t read it…it will answer so many questions..

      • motley says:
        2010/04/21 at 7:36 am

My answer is, “Big deal. She, like many middle class Americans that work their way through college, go to several junior and/or community colleges to get the classes they need to graduate from a state university. Not all of these local schools offer all classes so you have to go here, go there, then go back here before you can transfer. More importantly she finished faster than most people who have to go this route, earned a degree AND IS WILLING TO SHOW THE DEGREE ALONG WITH HER TRANSCRIPTS TO PROVE SHE WAS A FIGHTER EVEN AS A COLLEGE KID.”

And let’s not forget that The Light Bringer will not allow the release of his own academic records.

As for his being termed “A Professor of Constitutional Law” – oops!

That claim is “no longer operative”!

      • gillyO says:
        2010/04/21 at 9:49 am

Frankly, I’m much more impressed by her attending 4 colleges. What it says to me is that she was determined to get her degree, no matter what she had to do to get it. The fact that she worked her way through college impresses me no end. I also worked 30 hours a week while taking 20 units so I could finish school earlier. I couldn’t afford that extra semester.

To me this whole “4 colleges” thing is another example of how the elitists view the rest of us. I’ve worked with many of these people who once they get to know me and realize my breadth of knowledge just assume that I went to a big university. When I tell them I went to a California State University they’re shocked. My parents couldn’t afford to send me to an elite university and there weren’t any scholarships available for the likes of me. Some of us have to WORK for what we get.

I think that’s why Sarah is so popular amongst regular folks. We know that she understands us because she’s one of us.

        • eor says:
          2010/04/21 at 8:11 pm

Also, often when they are sent to those “prodigious” universities they just spend their parent’s money and come out educated (or not) nuts.

Yes, the four-college thing was a money issue. She EARNED her own money to pay for college.

What did Barack Hussein Obama do to pay for his? Scholarships? Okay. Fine. But dissin’ someone for going to more than one college and taking more than four years to earn the degree is silliness and pettiness.

I’d like to know this, however, about the current resident of the White House: When did Barack Hussein Obama EVER earn a paycheck resulting from PRODUCTIVE work?

Did Obama ever work at a department store (the way I did)? On farms, hoeing and slinging watermelons (the way I did)? As a janitor (the way I did)? In asbestos containments (the way I did)? As a part-time gardener (the way I did)? As a odd-job doer (the way I did)?

Has Barack Hussein Obama EVER done a damn thing? Or has he always just stirred the pot as a community organizer?

Don’t tell me Jesus Christ was a community organizer. Jesus was a carpenter. Jesus hung out with fishermen and low-life tax collectors and low-life lawyers. The tax-collector and lawyer bits are the only similarities between Jesus and Obama. And Jesus called them to abandon what they were doing!

Obama is one LAZY-ASS, golf-playing bastard.

It took my husband 11 years to graduate! LOL…of course he wasn’t a VP candidate either. But seriously, I just think it makes her more “one of us”. My parents paid for my college but they did it by taking out a home equity loan on their house…and they were only able to do it at all because my sister didn’t go and went the wife/mother route instead. I knew quite a few kids that did have to pay their own way, and they were usually better students over all than the rest of us who had it paid for.

It’s just like everything else, you don’t appreciate anything unless you have to work for it. When it’s free you don’t care as much.

I think she wrote that she left U of Hawaii because she and her roommate were homesick then she went to Idaho and I imagine that the lack of funds would have made her go to another university instead of the U of Idaho, maybe the other one was cheaper? I can imagine that she might have taken a few classes at Mat-Su because she was at home working to earn money and instead of just working still wanted to take a few classes so she would have some more credits under her belt while she was working and therefore could transfer those credits.

Anyway, I now I am rambling here but I have a friend who went to a two year community college first and then transferred to a four year university and attended for her junior and senior year. She was paying for her school and the CC was cheaper than attending the 4 year university for all four years.

Also..she was born in Idaho and had family there and may have been one of the reasons she went there…actually the U. of Idaho is a pretty good school…my husband was at North Idaho College when she was..but says he doesn’t remember her…darn too bad huh?? :)

On my mind today . . . are radio and TV personalities on the right complicit in pushing the polarizing meme? Are they just as likely to identify and deliberately push their favorite candidates as those on the left? Here’s why I ask: I love Dennis Miller’s radio program and listen to the daily podcast. It is almost as if he goes out of his way to convince himself and his listeners that Palin is not running and should not run for president. In fact, on Monday’s show, in the course of about 3 minutes he brought up (1) the $$$ that she has made in the past year, (2) the cheerleader meme, and (3) the Couric interview. When she announced her Alaska series, Miller was quick to call it a “reality show” and seemed almost gleeful in concluding that it meant she was not considering a 2012 run. He also lambasted her for her “reload” comment and never misses an opportunity to suggest that she is not as smart as other contenders.

In the past, I’ve heard Miller champion Romney. After seeing some of the Romney supporters post on this site recently, it occurred to me that Miller sounds A LOT like them. Is it possible that he has signed on with Mitt and is pushing this narrative deliberately? Or is he just reading Mitt’s materials in his free time and allowing the talking points to creep in?

    • EricP says:
      2010/04/21 at 3:17 am

It’s a good point. I don’t listen to Miller, though I occasionally catch him when I watch O’Reilly and generally like him.

However, one of the main reasons I no longer consider myself a Republican is that they tend to put up candidates based on “turns”. Oh, it’s a Bush’s turn. Oh, it’s McCain’s turn. Oh, now it’s Romney’s turn.

My guess is that Miller himself has been bitten by the MSM’s “polarizing” ploy.

There is an undeniable perception out there, even among the right of the right, that Palin is not electable for one reason or another. Most of these people next to nothing about her. They’ve just heard her described as “polarizing” or “inexperienced” or “dumb” by someone else.

There is no question that, in some circles, she has ground to make up and perceptions to overcome if she ultimately throws her hat in the ring.

But I do believe that she can do that. I also believe that Romney and others have a lot of ground to make up in terms of exciting the base. Sarah Palin is miles ahead in that regard.

I so agree about the republicans choosing their candidates by ‘turn’.

That’s how Bob Dole got the nomination when everyone knew he had no chance in hell of winning.

It seems to me that the Republican core-leadership still consider their base irrelevant and slightly embarrassing~~unless we either start making noises (like Tea Party noise) or are really REALLY needed for a particular election.

They “court” us the same way the DNC courts their groups.

EG: Michael Steele falling all over himself recently trying to prove that he gets it w/re to Tea Partiers. I don’t get why people pay homage to Romney. Don’t get it. He led a liberal state as Republican. That’s an accomplishment. But the man has as much if not more ground to cover than Palin if he wants to run for POTUS.

His health care program in MA is what turns me off the most. His flip-flops on issues (like abortion) turn me off. I am pro-life. But if you aren’t at least be honest about it. Be consistent. Be principled.

Mitt is nice looking. BFD! So is Sarah. And that in and of itself really makes no difference to me. Sarah and I agree on the issues most of the time. And I can count on her to live by principles. I don’t know that about Mitt.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. O isn’t singularly hiding his birth certificate. He is hiding everything. Two million dollars is hiding over 40 years of documents. There is something in those documents that is worth spending two million dollars to hide. Myopically focusing on the birth certificate distracts people from this. What is hidden in all those other documents? If he gets everyone off on the red herring (or maybe not) of his birth certificate they won’t be questioning everything else due to this obsession with one little piece of paper. What about the reems of other papers? What is in there? Where does that paper trail lead?

I also want to see everything – not just his birth certificate.

The Rev. Manning is part of an upcoming trial against Columbia U, demanding answers about Obama’s false diploma and his true whereabouts during those years:

        http://drkatesview.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/this-week-on-revolution-radio/

Did you see where the new thing they just passed in Arizona requires that he show his birth certificate to the state? He can’t run for president in 2012 with his name on the ballot in Arizona unless he shows it. It was voted in their bill overwhelmingly. I saw a Dem say “We just need to get this over with so it’s not an issue”. So, maybe that will take care of it one way or another. I hope so. If he’s not a citizen we need to know. If he is we need to know.

The only thing I wonder about the AZ law is The O-Machine will just run anyways saying he is exempt because he is ALREADY president and that proves he is a citizen and has been settled.

And I am sure his followers/network are working on a “bombshell” certificate that is an absolute perfect forgery. It will reveal two American citizen parents (a false father, albeit). This is why his other records are so important and should be the focus.

And….there is something wrong with a president being able to seal all his own records by the stroke of his pen. Did he really do that as the first thing done when he took office? How could he do that? Is not that impeachable? Or at least not enforceable? Is that not misuse of office for personal gain?

I think he uses that “sealed records” very broadly and sees it as license to scrub the internet (a form of “sealing”)of all archives referring to him as Kenyan, foreign student, Muslim, etc.

When I first heard about Obama and late-term abortion, I was able to go online and read minutes of Illinois State Senate Minutes (I think that is what it was called) and read his own words on the subject. I told people, and by the time they went to do the research…..nothing….made me look like the liar and the fool. Those are public records and yet they are sealed because he is a part of them??????? I don’t understand how people don’t see the bizareness of this move of his, if he really did sign for his records to be sealed.

We have an election coming up here on May 4…I have noticed that there are not many democratic signs this time around..in fact..I don’t think I have seen one..

Love Rev. Manning…he seems to be with it…and an African male not afraid to go after Obama.

I am very irritated that they closed the area in the vicinity of the White House because some protesters handcuffed themselves to the fence…and the LSM is reporting that this has NEVER happened before…BS!!

Also…it is a shame that more people cannot see (hopefully the people of Alaska will) that the Palin Alaska TV series is for Alaska..is she making money? Sure. However, the tourism money it could bring it will most likely outnumber anything she makes…and help the state she loves.

But since we have heard nothing since last week – no vote to change the wording or anything, my guess is they’re just going along like the still don’t know that the law stripped them of their health care. As we know, Congress is famous in using the tactic that if you ignore something (like the public majority not wanting the law) it doesn’t exist.

Good morning, Hillbuzz guys – have you seen this: http://hotair.com/archives/2010/04/20/blackout-police-chase-reporters-away-from-covering-protest-outside-white-house/

Via Ben Smith, who’s told by his reporter pals covering the WH beat that this is “extremely unusual” police behavior. Maybe the protest got out of hand and the cops shooed the media away for their own safety? Doesn’t sound like it: Apparently, the “protest” was nothing more than six servicemen handcuffing themselves to the fence to object to “don’t ask, don’t tell.” I don’t know D.C. well enough to tell if these are city cops or some type of federal security service that might conceivably coordinate with the White House. Any readers know? We certainly don’t want to accuse a president who’s peeved at gay-rights protesters and who’s known for excluding the media from traditional press opportunities of quashing unfavorable coverage without good reason.

You can help get the story out. Why is Obama afraid to let people know about this story?

Personally, I wonder if he has made some kind of anti-gay promise to his Muslim friends, who, as you know, believe all gay people should be killed.

GREAT point – actually following through with abolishing DADT would destroy his imagined strides he’s made in making Muslim theocracies not hate us. All his apologizing and bowing will have gone to waste.

One of the reasons I think Hillbuzz will be so influential in the coming elections is because of the Gay issue with this President…no one can serve two masters…is he a traditional social liberal who wants everyone to have the same basic human rights? Or is a Muslim sympathizer?

He can’t have it both ways and he’s going to piss off one of these groups. My bet is that he will piss off the Gays before he pisses of the Muslims…mainly because the Gays are not as dangerous and aren’t going to influence his election with money and power like the Muslim community will do.

I hope the Gay community wakes up to his dishonesty in regards to his issues. They at least know where they stand with Evangelicals and Conservatives and can have a debate with them. I personally think that someone like Obama who lies to their face is much more offensive!

I’m watching some kind of shift in POTUS coverage this week and wondering….wondering….wondering….if some of the MSM is in the process of figuring out if it’s time to save their own hides and cut loose from the fraud. I’m not assuming anything. Just watching…there have been several situations where they have broken the rules at the obama altar. What the exceptions basically amount to is “wait just a minute!” or “…that’s not what you said before” level of response.

I think this incident yesterday with the protesters has jolted some people in the media. Yes, there are some hard care liberal elitists in the MSM. But there are some people who stand firm with our freedom of the press and free speech laws. I think BO is crossing the line with them. I saw this with Carter. There was a point when the liberal media just threw their hands up and said “WTF?” and I swear last night I was seeing it. Everywhere I looked people were dissing Obama. Please don’t take this in the wrong way: I am NOT saying anything should- or will- happen to this president physically. I just want to point out something that – based on the way this president works- would not totally surprise me. JFK wasn’t all that popular before he was shot. Reagan also wasn’t all that popular- until he was shot. It would not surprise me one little bit if- prior to 2012- deliberately got himself shot and then “leaked” to the press that he almost died, and then – almost miraculously- come back to “life” and keep working as “such a dedicated president”. That would instantly boost his popularity.

I guess the reason this even came into my head was hearing so many personal friends speculating as to whether O is the “Antichrist” or not. According to the Bible the Antichrist almost dies and miraculously “comes back to life” with a head wound, a disabled right arm, and an injured right eye. That kind of description, by the way, sounds very much like that of wounds from an explosion rather than a shooting. That kind of “assassination attempt” would fit in more with today’s methods of assassination than ever before. One more instance of something written in the Bible centuries ago that fit more in with “today” than when they were written. If, of course, that happened to O it would be a pretty good indication that he IS the Antichrist (based on the Bible). The other description of the Antichrist in the Bible is that of a little man who rose from obscurity to leadership who had a big, bragging, mouth, no known history, and charisma that somehow convinces multitudes of people.

I disagree respectfully about Ronald Reagan. Reagan was extremely popular when he got elected…people were so desperate about the hostage situation and how awful the economy was. The Iranians were so afraid of him they freed the hostages during his inauguration.

I do agree with JFK. I asked my mom years ago what she thought of JFK and she said “He wasn’t that big a deal until he got killed”. She called him the “Hollywood president”.

I’m not an expert on scripture. But from what I have gleaned biblical scholars do not think the anti-christ will be any American president. They think he will come from Europe. From what I have seen these people do not think Obama is the anti-christ.
It is scary to talk about. But I think it is more likely that Obama will lash out at Americans than any will lash out at him. He ridicules and belittles his dissenters. Going to the measures he is going to to limit the freedom of the press is a very bad sign. It is his way or no way.

Have to run out and do errands very soon. Blech.

But what is on my mind is how old I am , how awesome my daughter is and how she really has no clue how much we are alike. Last week was the school musical and I went and as I sat there watching her and her fellow classmates I was rememebering my high school days and our musical. hehehehe. I guess this is where sappy music would start in the background if it were a tv show. Willie Wonka rocks.

More generally in my area the tea party movement is getting traction. They even made it into the freebie weekly paper

    http://sherandotimes.wordpress.com/

April 7- 13th edition. So it is bubbling and stewing if it made the press here.

On my mind today is our service personnel and their families. We still have 2 wars going on and casualties. I do remember Obama making one visit to meet a flight home of casualties. Bush used to keep these quiet so maybe Obama does the same but I am skeptical. What have the rest of you heard about this? When has he met with service families? Maybe he could forgo a round of golf.

Wasn’t that just a photo op? I know the military doesn’t like it when they televise that. It’s a very personal thing and it’s just not right to use it as a photo op. My friend always gets upset when that happens.

On a similar vein – same topic, I was telling one of my best friends (who is a massive Dr. U believer) that my daughter’s boyfriend and her ex-boyfriend, both in Special Forces, are being deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq (respectively) again in August. Her response was “I thought we were getting out of those places?”

It occurred to me that many people who supported U are not bothering to pay that much attention to what has gone on since he came to power, but are simply assuming he’s doing what he said he was going to do during the election.

I had so many things I wanted to say, but cannot and still keep my friend. And besides her blind support of U, she is a terrific friend.

Mind you, at the time she said this, I did not like it because I supported Bush and the Iraq effort. But like it or not, Hillary was right.

    First the Obots came for the Jews…but I wasn’t a Jew…

    Then they came for the Gays…but I wasn’t Gay…

Two fascinating topics upthread blend seamlessly on Obama.

We know the storybook, Ayers as Tiger Beat political writer version of his life…but no “papertrail” as to how he fiananced his education; what his grades were; what countries he visited. Its an enigma wrapped in a riddle.

Then we have his actions. Abject malevolence towards Israel and blatant lies to Gays (DADT).

Now…if one grew up in Islam, and had their education financed by well off Muslims, where would your loyalties lie? With Jews and Gays who voted for you? Or with forces that brought you to the ‘vote’ in the first place. The ROP hates both groups…coincidence, huh?

Because of the dismissing of the ‘Stockholm Syndromed’ lames stream media…I have read conflicting reports that it was either 4 or 6 protesters who hand cuffed themselves to White House fencing. Why keep the press away from a small Gay rights protest?

I always remember the stunned reaction I had to Barky’s waxing philosophical on the “loveliest sound on earth…”
To him, it was the Muslim call to evening prayers. Huh? For the father of two, it wasn’t his newborn’s first cries or even a piece of music. Nope. It was a Muslim wail.

The Arizona bill, the Lakin Court Martial, the Rev. Manning (whose Atlah Ministries is awesom) v. Columbia…its all like a thousand little papercuts…one or two might fester into something much bigger.

These two combined I believe have them think that even if they do lose, the republicans won’t do anything substantial in the interim before they get back in control.

Just my two cents on the Sarah Palin idea. I was thinking about Joe Biden. If he were Republican he would have been Dan Quayled a long time ago. So how does the media keep him from being “polarized”? Humor. They make fun of him and blow it off as just a joke. Sarah uses a lot of humor to blow off a lot of her critics. We should come up with some funny quips about the things people jaz her about. Like, I love the sign a tea party person had “I can see November from my house”. Somebody mentioned once that Sarah should go on SNL and impersonate Tina Fey. (Personally the other night I thought Tina Fey fell really flat…she’s not as pretty as Sarah and it was painfully obvious I thought). I think humor would be a good way to reach people and diffuse the negative criticism.

You would think the MSM would finally start to see the light with THIS, as Mao and every thug running the 3rd world Central American countries (Castro, Chavez, etc) are their freaking heroes. I mean, if you idolize someone like them, wouldn’t it stand to reason you know everything about them, from their favorite colors, meal, past times to the methods and steps taken to instill their regimes? Is this the start? Should the press be saying “holy SH!T- I’ve seen this somewhere else before…” Or will they gleefully comply with teh One’s wishes and swallow the key to their own cages they’ve locked themselves in, desperate to be a favored pet?

What is on my mind today? How incredibly alive the book of Psalms seems to me in recent days. I have been working on reading the entire book and this was my reading for the day. I hope it might provide peace, comfort and encouragement for someone else. It’s a little long to post, but there wasn’t any part of it that I felt I could edit out.

    Psalms 27

    By David.

27:1 The Lord delivers and vindicates me!
    I fear no one!
    The Lord protects my life!
I am afraid of no one!
27:2 When evil men attack me
    to devour my flesh,
when my adversaries and enemies attack me,
    they stumble and fall.
27:3 Even when an army is deployed against me,
    I do not fear.
    Even when war is imminent,
    I remain confident.
27:4 I have asked the Lord for one thing –
    this is what I desire!
I want to live in the Lord’s house all the days of my life,
so I can gaze at the splendor of the Lord
    and contemplate in his temple.
    27:5 He will surely give me shelter in the day of danger;
    he will hide me in his home;
he will place me on an inaccessible rocky summit.
    27:6 Now I will triumph
over my enemies who surround me!
I will offer sacrifices in his dwelling place and shout for joy!
I will sing praises to the Lord!
27:7 Hear me, O Lord, when I cry out!
Have mercy on me and answer me!
27:8 My heart tells me to pray to you,
and I do pray to you, O Lord.
    27:9 Do not reject me!
Do not push your servant away in anger!
    You are my deliverer!
Do not forsake or abandon me,
    O God who vindicates me!
27:10 Even if my father and mother abandoned me, the Lord would take me in.
    27:11 Teach me how you want me to live;
lead me along a level path because of those who wait to ambush me!
27:12 Do not turn me over to my enemies,
for false witnesses who want to destroy me testify against me.
27:13 Where would I be if I did not believe I would experience the Lord’s favor in the land of the living?
    27:14 Rely on the Lord!
    Be strong and confident!
    Rely on the Lord!

I’m proud to say that the voters of NJ are still so angry about the spending of the federal, state, county, and municipal governments that they came out in droves [largest showing of voters for school board elections since 1976] to vote AGAINST most of the districts budgets, which were labled as “tax levies” on the ballot. A majority of districts’ budgets were voted down. In addition, many of those school boards were voted out. Whoops! The law of unintended consequences.

In my district the budget was voted down 65 to 35! The teacher’s union guys were there handing out flyers against NJ law on “electioneering”. I told them they had to be at least 200 feet away and took out my cell phone. Then I walked inside to tell the election judges what they were doing. When the election judges came out, the union guys walked a distance away with their flyers. The left just does not believe any rules apply to them.

The anger toward our governor from those in the government unions is palpable. What those people don’t understand that the anger from the NJ middle class, tea partiers and others, who are just exhausted from throwing money at problems that never go away and never get fixed [like spending $22,000 per student in the city of Newark and only 1/3 of the students graduate from high school] is just as strong.

As long as the unions keep whining, fighting, threatening – it will keep the citizens who are the number one overtaxed group in the USA angry enough to keep coming out in elections to vote AGAINST them, and anyone who supports them or who they support. Royal Blue NJ is, for the time being, voting with their heads and their pocketbooks. I hope this last through November.

I think this volcano is God’s sense of humor. He’s saying, “You earthlings think you are so powerful that you think you can control the climate. I’ll show you who controls the climate.”

Also, Rush was mentioning yesterday how happy the environmentalists should be i.e. Look at how much jet fuel has been saved and how much less of a carbon footprint Europe has had this last week. They should be celebrating this.

I believe wholeheartedly in protecting the environment. However, no planes in the sky means that economies will crash. Not to mention, if the little one, Katla, goes off, it will make Krakatoa [and "the year without a summer"] look small in comparison. Agriculture will suffer, weather patterns will change, and what food there is, may not be able to get to its destination in this hemisphere.

Just asking if anyone’s noticed an uptick in local news about “threats” made against liberal politicians?

KTVU Channel 2 in the Bay Area started off their 10pm newscast last night with a story about a San Francisco State Senator who was complaining about threats and hateful messages because he’d involved himself in the Sarah Palin speaking contract nonsense. They played some of the “threats” and they sounded like, “I don’t like you, butt out of something that doesn’t concern you.” But oh my! How they carried on about how hateful and horrible it all was.

Heck, I’ve known teachers who’ve gotten worse threats from their students. What big babies!

Not only did they play that crap, they then went on to quote Bill Clinton’s nonsense about how our free speech is going to cause violence.

I emailed them,(again!), that I was glad they’d received their Obama Administration and DNC talking points. How can they think we can take anything they say seriously? It’s just so obvious that they must think we’re morons.

The libs out here are in such a tizzy because Sarah Palin requested bendy straws and a decent hotel. Duh! I used to book bands and even third tier ones had riders that went on for pages. Sounds like a pretty standard speaking contract to me. Big Whoop!

    • TN WAHM says:
      2010/04/21 at 10:28 am

On the surface it looks like Liberals being babies. But we all know, and they all know, that threats come with the territory they tread. What they are doing now is an intentional concerted effort to make it look like Tea Party people, talk radio and basically anyone that disagrees with the current administration is dangerous. It is something they can do because they have the support of the State Run Media. They had this planned out long before they passed the Health Crime Bill. They’ve just been waiting for the best time to use and and they figured it was now.

      • gillyO says:
        2010/04/21 at 2:27 pm

I don’t doubt what you’re saying at all. I’m sure this sudden interest in nasty messages is calculated. I suspect that this guy would receive much worse messages if he got caught having a ateak on Monday, (but that would never be reported!).

What bothers me the most is how the press keeps putting it out there that we’re all a bunch of crazed loons that are going to say mean things to them and might possibly hurt them.

But they NEVER report the violence their side engages in. Not once did they mention the Kenneth Gladney beating, the guy who got his finger bit off, or the Jindal worker who got beaten to a pulp. There was a man who was beaten at an SEIU meeting in Sacramento …not a word! Not to mention all of the other violent acts the left has either done or encouraged over the years.

Can you imagine if any of these acts had been committed by a Tea Party member? We’d never hear the end of it!

A wonderfully snarky article related to Me-chelle’s “Let’s Move” campaign. Fat Heads, indeed.

I want to say this. If anyone has any information to the contrary, please post it up.

Right next to our office is an Americorp YouthBuilder office. I have always thought that youth national service programs were a great idea BEFORE teh won came up with the idea of politicizing them or turning them into his own brownshirts.

BUT, the Americorp office next to ours takes kids who have been court ordered to do community service, and teach them skills that, in a normal economy, would land them a job. I’ve talked to these kids while I go out for a smoke break and I have to say they are generally very respectful, appreciate any attention you give them, and friendly. If they’re not court ordered, they also get paid for their time in school.

I realize its a give away program, but it ONE that I think probably really pays off in the long run by training these kids. I’m unaware of any indoctrination going on there. If anyone knows of anything commie about this operation, please post it up. I’ll keep ears and eyes open.

Why don’t you see if you can engage them a bit more and see if you can glean any indoctrination? You could be a nice balance for those kids.

I do not like it Uncle Sam, I do not like it Sam I am. I do not like these dirty crooks, Neither how they cook the books. I do not like when Congress steals, I do not like their secret deals. I do not like the speaker Nan, I do not like this ‘YES WE CAN’. I do not like this kind of hope, I do not like it, nope, nope, nope!…

You know, I’m seeing a lot of humor today. I think it’s a sign of things coming. You know, when the comedians start taking shots at the president and the Dems…when you start seeing things like this. I saw a sign that said “I’m not a bigot but I play one on MSNBC”. That’s the ticket! You can win over a lot more people with humor like this than with anger I think. I love the days when HB posts funny stuff…like the Michelle fashion critiques or the Rahm Emanuel jokes…It’s definitely a momentum changer.

Bev, did you write this? It’s perfect! It’s also the funniest thing I read today.

You are so right about the humor. I once saw an ad for a local politician that was a cartoon about the arrogance of the candidate, everywhere he went, he had a posse with him and you couldn’t see him for all the security guards, hangers on, lobbyists et al. The narrator would say: And here’s Sheriff so and so stopping at the dry cleaners – a limo would pull up and like clowns in a Volkswagen, people would fall out, surround the candidate and yap yap yap into the dry cleaners. It made an impression because I have never forgotten it.

I always thought that using humor to “attack” an opponent or a really bad idea is the right way to go. [Unless it's raunchy or mean].

The Hillbuzz boyz could start an agency with the creative talent on this site, along with their own genius. Researchers, lyric writers, graphic mavens, and inspiration from general ideas that pop up.

I think it’s a sign of the tide turning. The comedians are one of the first to start taking shots at the President and the government and they do that because they know they’ll get a laugh because they know what they’re saying has truth to it.

This president is doing so many outrageous things…Who can take him seriously anymore? He is just a mockery of the office. He can’t even take his OWN SUPPORTERS giving him jazz about a promise he made to THEM. What a dope. I enjoy watching him get mad. I say More! More! More!

I still like the idea of using “polarizing”
    as “zapping.”

I could just hear Sarah say: “We are going to zap this and that. We are going to clean up Washington. We are going to zap government waste. We are going to zap tax increases. etc.”

I have so many things on my mind lately. However,I am keeping an eye on Obama’s recent meeting with Supreme Court nominees. I saw that Judge Ann Claire Williams, Boyz’ favorite choice for SC, is on the list and Obama had considered her for SC position before it went to Sotomayor.

I liked the professor’s piece on Chuck U. Screwmer, “Senator Hedge Fund” better. Some great links.

Screwmer is so beatable. Where is the NRSC? Take this dork down now before we are stuck with him taking over Harry Reid’s job.
