VIRGINIA GROUND REPORT
Dear HillBuzz,
I wrote in about a week ago about what’s happening in Northern VA. Just wanted to say that your work got me off my sofa and over to Murray HQ last night to make some phone calls on his behalf. I worked the phones for about 3 hours last night.
Based on that experience (anecdotal of course), I think this is absolutely winnable for Murray, but we have to get people to turn out. The people I talked with who said they were voting for Murray were very enthusiastic. They were upset because of Obamacare, the bailouts and Moran’s recent comments about the military not counting as public service (seriously). And they weren’t necessarily Republicans. Some didn’t have the name recognition, but a little education went a long way. More than once the response was “oh, he’s running against Moran? He’s got my vote. thanks for the call.”
The Moran voters, however, seemed less than excited about his race. My guess is they’re voting for him out of some sense of obligation or habit. Or they won’t vote GOP, as one guy said “if my life depended on it.” So that’s what were up against. So if you’re in VA-8, get to Murray HQ and let’s Retire Jim Moran! And if you’re not — send money!!
- D from VA-8
PS — Connolly in VA-11 has gone full negative on Fimian. I can’t recall seeing/hearing any ads about his record. Can’t say I blame him.

Dear HillBuzz,
As far as I can tell, Gerry Connolly’s party backers haven’t changed their campaign strategy much since 2008. In the weeks leading up to the election in 2008, I received a flurry of mailers from the Democrat Party warning me that Keith Fimian wants to outlaw abortion and force seniors to choose between bread and medicine – and the television ads were sounding the same message. The onslaught was so annoying, in fact, that I was prompted to post the following on my old personal blog:
Who is this ad really going to convince other than the pro-abort radicals who are supporting [Connolly] already? And why the hell is abortion the issue you lead with when Wall Street is going belly up and our military is still deployed in the Middle East?
It’s time to be quite frank, Democrats: when I hear your ads rumble about a politician’s pro-life views as if they are portents of a potential end of feminism, it makes me want to vote for said politician more just to spite you.
Fast-forward to the current election. Connolly himself is out there pretending he’s a fiscal conservative – but, of course, voting records don’t lie, and I’m hoping that NoVa denizens are smart enough to realize that. Meanwhile, the Democrat Party is playing the same exact tune – 2008, second verse. Over the past few weeks, I’ve received numerous mailers from the Virginia Democrat Party and the DCCC that are pretty much identical to the mailers they sent out in 2008. It’s like they rummaged their closets, found boxes of unused mailers from the last election, and thought, “Hooray! We can save on advertising costs this year!”
Okay – so the above is an exaggeration, but I’m sure you get my point, which is that the Democrat Party leadership is completely tone-deaf. The scare tactics may have “worked” in 2008 when the political climate was very favorable for Democrats, but times have changed. Connolly realizes this; that’s why he’s running away from his pro-Pelosi record as fast as his little legs can carry him. The party leadership, on the other hand, apparently believes it has no need to defend itself – and as far as I’m concerned, that’s great for those of us who love America and hate what the Pelosi-Obama two-headed monster is trying to do to our country.
My father, a moderate, has been spitting mad ever since a recent hospital stay forced him to watch the 24/7 news channels on a daily basis. Before then, he was busy defending this nation, as his job involves monitoring classified military operations overseas (I think – obviously, he can’t tell me any of the details of those missions). He’s retired military – a true patriot – and as far as I can tell, he is just as excited to pull the lever for Fimian as I am.
Thanks, guys, for all that you do. Your voices are so unique and refreshing.

Yes…”someone” has been buying time on WMAL to do a 15 sec. commercial at the end of each traffic report saying Fimian is against abortion in the case of rape, incest or the life of the mother being in danger. The ads say NOTHING about what Connolly has done GOOD for his district. Fimian has started running some good ads on WMAL telly you just what Connolly HAS done in the past two years.
It’s the DCCC who has bought that ad space. Talk about throwing away money on the station that airs Rush and Hannity, but if that floats their boat – ha!
But I was sooo mad when I heard that ad, which goes something like this: “This traffic report was brought to you by the DCCC which wants to make you aware that Keith Fimian is against a mother’s right to choose even in cases of abortion, rape or incest.”
Grrr! And how do you like the way the call you a ‘mother’ in the ad, while giving you the spooky ooga-booga scare that you might not be able to kill your baby if you might want to? I’m probably extra touchy on this because I’m in the third trimester right now & hormones are running high. I was so outraged.
I grit my teeth every time I hear those commercials. Unfortunately, it is the station I listen to on the way to work and carries Rush and Levin.
HillBuzz:
Thank you for these excellent ground reports. And Go, Patrick Murray!
Thanks for the link. The other day was out meeting and greeting at a local park and ride, and a supporter was out waving a sign – honked and waved as I drove by.
I’m sorry – Murray was out meeting and greeting
Go Murray!
He would be a fantastic addition to Congress.
Perries:
We just got back in from doing the walking tour of Old Town Alexandria at night with our youngest. Every other house had a Murray sign in the window! Quite a few Fire Jim Morans as well — but no Moran signs. Yay!!
Just got an e-mail from the Fimian campaign:
Pelosi and the D’s have just given Connolly another MILLION, yes, MILLION dollars to buy ad time. That makes a total of 1.8 M the Dems nationally have dumped into this campaign.
Fimian is asking for a moneybomb and for people to sign up for GOTV for the last push. I sent some more kibble his way, and we’ll be helping out later this weekend. (Not tonight; I have a date with the Studmuffin)

I guess the polls showing Keith UP are true.
The D’s are on the run … let’s keep it that way!
