Victor David Hanson claims Nemesis has come to punish Obama — we think it's just Hera doing her thing some more
Here’s a fun read by Victor David Hanson, where he invokes Greek myth in the form of the lesser goddess Nemesis to explain the collapse of the cult of Obama. In short, he waxes on the Olympian plane to recount Dr. Utopia’s determined hubris as a candidate, where he constantly used grandiose hyperbole to delude his cultists into believing, as president, he would “lower the oceans”, “heal the planet”, “fix broken souls”, and do everything else this “new god” of Media manufacture promised not just Americans, but the whole world, he would do.
As Hanson notes, in the Greek myths, whenever a mere mortal became so pumped full of ego that he likened himself to the gods and made such insane pronouncements about himself, Olympus dispatched Nemesis to bring wretches like this down — in fun, creative, and let-that-be-a-lesson-to-you all sorts of ways.
All of us here attended Catholic schools, where Greek myths were always studied in English and history classes, every year — and where we always had creative little projects assigned to us, which often involved dressing up as various characters and performing little skits. One time, in high school, one of our schools even had us write new myths using existing or original characters, as if these stories were still being told today to explain the world around us.
So, it’s fairly easy for us to see Hera hard at work, since 2008, punishing all those who sided against Hillary Clinton in the Democrat primaries. Obama, for everything he did to the Clintons, and everything his cultists did to her supporters, bears the most responsibility of all. His wife Michelle’s punishment is the simple and sublime fact that she has to wake up each morning as herself — no amount of “high fashion”, lavish praise from the Media, or elaborate extravagance on the taxpayer dime will ever make up for having to stare into a mirror and stare at what’s looking back at her each and every day for the rest of her life. Her husband, however, is only just starting to receive the attention of Hera…and if you read Hanson’s piece, you can clearly see a queen on a peacock throne, not the vengeful Nemesis, at work here.
Really, Obama’s fall is more like what happened to Greg Stillson in The Dead Zone, and other would-be tyrants and destroyers of this country. He might have been positioned where he is now by people who want to see this country destroyed, and his arrogance and various mental disorders may have culminated into a very real danger to the continued prosperity of this nation, but in the end he will be undone by some trick of fate and happenstance that reveals his true colors to the nation. Everything that’s happening now is the leadup to this moment, so maybe you can see it as Hera priming that pump, or you can wax more patriotic and believe the ghosts of the Founding Fathers are assembling ethereally behind the scenes to construct a political Rube Goldberg device that will soon form a Byzantine, twisting, and turning assemblage of oddities that will combine to bring him down.
We think, mathematically, there’s a more rational explanation — and it’s simply that a person cannot do as many crazy things, and can’t exist with his level of chronic incompetence in the most high profile job in the world, without all of his mistakes accumulating to the point where some small event in the future is going to be the proverbial straw that breaks the socialist’s back.
And when this man finally goes down, he’s going to take not just a lot of bad Democrats down with him, but he’s going to drag a large portion of the national Media down too.
Americans must remember how much the Media pushed for Obama, and how Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann and the rest of MSNBC in particular became a de facto, unpaid arm of his campaign.
A lot of people out there have comeuppance coming, to answer for all that’s happened to this country for the last two years.
You can believe it’s Nemesis behind this, or Hera, or just simple math and probability…or you can believe angels on high really do love this country and will defeat all who abjure it. Whatever you believe, history teaches that men like Obama get the takedowns and falls from grace they have coming.
For him, because of his global cult of personality, that takedown is going to be spectacular. And, as Hanson notes, that’s something he should have thought long and hard about as he encouraged his cult’s rise to begin with.

Unfortunately, Obama’s downfall may be so epic that he takes a fair amount of Americans with him. And just not loony lefties and clueless media types either.
For example look what is happening to the Gulf Coast. A lot of good people are seeing their life’s work being destroyed by Barry’s incompetence.

Soon after BO won the election, I ran into a friend while buying vodka and jokingly told her it was my “Obama juice”. Hopefully it will soon be my “Obama is Going Down the Tubes and Happy Days are Here Again – Pop the Popcorn and Turn on MSNBC, This is Going to be Good!, juice”.
Chris Matthews’ tingly legs may turn into full-fledged case of restless leg syndrome, right in front of the cameras. With “Happy Days” playing in the background, he could tap dance all the way to the unemployment office (or the asylum, whichever is most appropriate.)
I actually was waiting for Matthews to be diagnosed with some fatal neurological disorder to explain that tingle. Not that I was hoping for it…I am too much of a gentleman and Christian to say such a horrid thing…(choke..gulp) : )
Seems more like Icarus descending than anything else. He’s headed for a serious crash and burn soon–we as Americans have to try and mitigate the damage as best we can.

Yes, those nuns had so many creative ways to keep us all out of trouble and fascinate at the same time. I still love the Greek and Roman gods and goddesses. The Greek Tragedy’s-my cousin is a priest he loves the Greek Comedies but I don’t think they are funny. Also for young children and us adults too Aesop’s Fables, Poor Richards Almanac, they are so rich with irony, pathos, knowledge, lessons, lessons learned the hard way.
Those of us who saw Obama in the beginning for what he was/not was, the media are they all crazy, not their business to pick candidates for us, we are not shocked,every day millions more of his supporters are going to figure this out and they are not happy now and will become more unhappy because they will feel so used and thrown away like a cheap date. I think as a group they will be furious.
There is a lot of wisdom in those Aesop’s fables. I am sure that those writers were inspired by God, even though they did not know it at the time.
Like you, I read those Greek myths at school (Catholic school) and I loved ancient and Greek History.

VDH is always so instructive….although when his thinking includes a series of rhetorical question, I would just love it if he would provide his own answers to those questions.

To add to your questions, and unfortunately not answer them, consider why the Kennedys were so staunchly behind the Big Zero. Why did they back Obama and not Mrs. Clinton? Do they dislike the Clintons? Perhaps the Clintons were not liberal enough for the likes of Teddy and co.

Here’s where I disagree. I think all these minions of Media Matters, Moveon and even the trolls that so annoyed you here…are not unpaid at all. I think electronic credits are cut to their bank accounts at feverish rates. “Say this, get $50!” “Get this on the air, here’s a cool grand!”
For sure they were and are getting “paid” somehow – ad revenues, Dumb-Bot product buys, etc…..
Guys, it is so great to see some young people (y’all), not academics, who learned Greek mythology in school and still remember it, and can see the connection with humanity even today. And it’s so depressing to realize that just the other day you were talking about the truly awful decline in education.

I did not follow the Obama campaign at all during the election. (Did my research and realized who he was early on in the game).
Did he really say stuff about the oceans lowering, saving the planet and him being the one people have been waiting for?
If so, and even if he didn’t but allowed others to say it, well, hubris indeed!

I too attended Catholic Schools and was educated on Greek Methology. I couldn’t get enough of those books. Poseidon, Athena, Huntress…Zeus, the Medusa, etc.

What a great piece that was. I do wish things like that would be posted in “mainstream” sites. The minute I put something like that on my Facebook page, my Left friends see “Real Clear Politics” and prepare to take none of it seriously.

I just came back from Italy. I had numerous conversations with regular Italians, and several derided Obama most harshly. One Italian businessman actually called him a “clown”. I suspect, based on this, Jupiter and Juno will also be lending a hand.
I will have details when I get over the jet-lag! Yours was the first I had to review after I returned.
I think we could call O-hole the “Machiavelli of CHaos” (as Gov Clinton of NY once referred to the great patriot Sam Adams) and thus reference both Greek mythology (the god CHOAS), and our history — altho it is sad to use an epithet once used for my favorite founding father on this a++wipe.

But that is the very essence of Obama’s psychopathology: Narcissism; Obama simply doesn’t think about how his actions will effect others. He puts them out of mind. He can only see his own narrow interests at the range of the moment.
Well I can only say that I am going to be waiting with bated breath to see the takedown and so it better be fireworks. He has punished us enough with so much we forget it all; I have been everyday outraged at what he does—the little Satan that he is, he never sleeps.
