Utah Ground Report: Who’s really being victimized?

Posted on September 13, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Gay Bullying, Ground Reports, Hillbuzz, Mountain West, The Left

Dear HillBuzz -

Maybe it’s just because HillBuzz.org has been covering this lately, but I have noticed things around me that tie into issues we Buzzers have had great discussions about – namely bullies who claim they are the victims.

It started with the Only@Brunch guys making derogatory comments about Trig Palin in Chicago and The Ben Cohen Standup Foundation hypocritically holding an anti-bullying event in the venue where those bullying attacks were showcased.  And I have to hand it to the HillBuzz crew for standing up for Trig and everyone else who gets picked on in the gay community because of their handicaps or what-have-you.  Also, HillBuzz’s highlighting of the Gaystapo’s constant targeting of people they don’t agree with has made me realize how much those who claim to be victims are really the bullies.

Prime example – When I came home from Labor Day break, it was to find my roommate almost in tears because of something her sister had done.  Without going into too much detail, my roommate’s sister wanted my roommate to do her a favor that would probably lead to big problems for my roommate down the line.  My roommate told her sister no, she wouldn’t do this and her sister raised an almighty fuss and tried to get the rest of their family on her side against my roommate.  The sister claimed all kinds of horrible things my roommate had done and that my roommate owes this to her as restitution for her mistakes (which, I will tell you right now, my roommate is not guilty of any of the ugly things her sister claims she has done).  But the sister kept going on and on about how she was the victim and make her do what I want, Mommy.  Make her do it right now! (Brings to mind the images of Princess Caroline of Kennedy demanding a senate seat, a private jet and a pony).

Luckily for my roommate, she stood her ground and kept saying no.  Eventually, the sister ended up looking spoiled and foolish for her tantrum.

All these things brought to my mind how much the Democrat Party depends on victims and how much they manufacture bullies – when the bullies they produce are anything but.  People in Utah know well the tenure of Rocky Anderson, former mayor of Salt Lake City and lapdog of the ACLU, and how much he railed against the LDS Church developing the downtown area of the city, much of which was pretty run-down and in need of improvement.  Rocky, for those who don’t know, is not the kind of person your typical conservative Utahn wants representing our state.  He is probably the most liberal person to come out of the Utah political system.  While he was mayor, it was as if he had a personal vendetta against the Church and anyone who was a member.  For example – the Church once asked if there was any legal way to keep anti-LDS protesters from harassing people attending the Church’s semi-annual General Conference (always a peaceful religious gathering).  To hear Rocky and his supporters, you’d have thought the Church was tearing up the First Amendment and spitting on the faces of these poor, defenseless street preachers who just wanted to shout derogatory remarks at Church members attending General Conference (because it’s ONLY during the first weekends in April and October that these preachers show up to exercise their First Amendment rights, don’cha know).  Rocky fought the Church every step of the way – and probably bussed in some guys to hold up anti-LDS signs and yell at members attending the conference (I myself had some rather choice words thrown at me when I attended to the conference once or twice during this time).  They all claimed to be good Christian preachers but if you buy that, then I’ve got a purple unicorn that craps golden gumdrops that I want to sell to you.  Real Christians don’t do that kind of stuff to each other.

I often wondered if Rocky hated us so much, why didn’t he just leave Utah?  To hear him talk, even I would almost believe the crap that gets spread around about us (which, 99.9% is total and complete rubbish).  But I’m willing to bet if Rocky was mayor of a city in the South where most people were Baptist or any other Christian denomination, he would probably pull this crap with them too.  He’s just the kind of guy that wherever there is an abundance of EEEEEEEVIL Christian conservative people trying to live good lives and do right by their fellowman, he must come and wreck all of that.

I only share these things as examples of something that has bugged me my entire life about liberals – how in the world do they get away with painting conservatives and/or religious people as awful, mean, hateful people? (Unless you’re a member of the “Religion of Peace” that regularly solves religious debate with explosives.  Then you’re the Left’s best buddy).  If you’re a Christian, conservative and/or Tea Party, you are automatically a bully that likes to pick on poor, gays, and minorities because of [insert your favorite diatribe here].  When members of any Christian religion try to stick up for themselves and their beliefs, why do they get pegged as bigoted and intolerant? And why do analysts like Karl Rove sit back and let these morons paint amazing people like Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin as crazy and stupid?

Moreover, why do we put up with it?

It’s easy for liberals to play the victim card and it’s the best one they’ve got.  Because when you get called a racist or a sexist or a bigot, you have to scramble for examples of why you’re not.  And when you do find examples, the Left is so good at making it look like you’re just making pitiful excuses.  When, in the first place, all you really had to do was stand your ground, continue to live your values and ignore what these idiots say.

That, I think, is the success of the Tea Party.  Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann and their liberal buddies can spread all the crap they want, but people can see for themselves what the Tea Party is really all about.  We continue to gather and protest peacefully (and leave the area where we protest cleaner than we found it) and we gather more to our ranks.  We don’t have to convince anyone who the real bullies are because anyone that’s really paying attention can see who is really bullying whom.  The Cocktail Party doesn’t get it because they want Lamestream Media to like them – they’re the ones left scrambling for excuses and looking stupid.  This excuse-making does nothing but give the Left more ammunition against them.

The best solution?  Unless you have someone that genuinely wants to know what your values are and is honestly seeking to understand, you don’t have to defend yourself to anybody.  Don’t explain your values, don’t even feel the need to defend your values – live them.

I know I spent a good deal talking about my religion and I want to add that I know that not all members of the LDS Church are conservative (Exhibit A: Harry Reid. Exhibit B: Jon Huntsman).  I also know that some conservatives have issues with my religion on doctrinal grounds and it is not my intention to turn this into a religious debate.  We may disagree on points of religious doctrine, but if we let that stuff divide us while we should be focusing on beating Obama, then he is going to win.  If anything, the GOP debate on Wednesday demonstrated that the NBC liberals are hoping to divide conservatives along religious and social lines (like they’ve done in the past) so we can fight amongst ourselves and let Obama have another four-year crack at destroying this country.

While I have no delusions that he will win the primary, Newt Gingrich had a fantastic moment when he said (I’m paraphrasing) whatever other disagreements or differences we have, conservatives need to band together behind whoever becomes the nominee (*cough* Sarah Palin *cough, cough*) and work to defeat Obama.  That needs to be the focus of this election.  It is not who believes in evolution or who wants to legalize gay marriage or who’s against abortion or any of that other nonsense – it’s about getting the Obamas out of the White House and restoring our country.
In all honesty, if Obama and the rest of the socialist Left wins, then there really won’t be any point to discussing those other issues, now will there?

CJ that sounds awful, but you have a lot of good comments in there.
All I can say is wow.
I have said for a while…well, it's nice that people have this or that belief…but it doesn't really say anything about how someone will govern.
On some blog somewhere someone said something about how he wonders how Biden can stay a catholic when he thinks that abortion should be legal (but it wasn't so nicely put). I responded: it's none of your business about anything between biden and the catholic church. it's between biden and the catholic church, and none of your business at all.
I can't believe people still talk that way.
One can believe something (doing drugs, having an abortion) is wrong, doesn't mean they think it should be illegal. And there are so many other examples of that.
I mean, we could go on and on. Attacking one's religious beliefs doesn't really get us anywhere (unless, well, your religious belief is that you should kill me…oh, wait, there are some out there who believe that, but i digress)…anyway, this was eloquent.

The left here in New England are so smug and so confident that they rule the roost (and they do) that the bullying is ingrained in their nature. If you even mention Sarah Palin they go bananas, the name-calling, spitting and screaming is deafening when you say anything out loud. And yet, in the elections at least in the outlying suburbs the results are evenly contested, but you never meet or see any of the conservatives. Most, if not all are afraid to speak up. That is my biggest objection to liberals, their complete intolerance of conservatives and their bullying of anyone who fesses up. It must be a requirement to be a liberal – passing bullying lessons.
