Buzz back with what's happening in your part of the country

Remember: you can still vote for Bristol Palin with as many email addresses as you can think of until 11am EST today.  That means if you are reading this in the morning when you wake up, you could easily get in another 300-400 votes for Bristol instead of watching The Today Show or whatever before you go to work.

Vote like a Democrat: early, often, and under as many different identities as ACORN collectively used to vote in the 2008 and 2010 elections.

It looks like the website is still screwed up this morning, it’s just sitting on the sign-in page with the wheels just spinning. But, I’ve found if you just re-load or refresh the page it takes you to the screen where you can vote, and you are already signed in.

Our town just notified us of the great new school lunch POS machines where each kid types in a personal PIN when making purchases. The PIN must be entered for all purchases, free, reduced price, full price, cash, or prepaid. The selling points are that you can prepay an account and not have to send in cash daily, that kids on free lunch won’t be stigmatized by having lunch tickets, and that the process will work more quickly. But our town neglected to mention that the food selections will be tracked and reported to local, state, and federal government. Apparently, these systems are being rolled out all over the country. Other states are pushing to move to a biometric system (fingerprint scan) over a PIN number.

Locally, I feel like I’m the only person outraged that the Feds will have the power to know and record what my kid eats in school, and that the school system made no effort to notify parents that the information is being collected and reported. If I hadn’t read about it in other states, I wouldn’t know.

I thought that already passed? I read about it on Michelle Malkin then checked up on it a day or two later and it seems like it passed. Which is bad because I love gardening and being frugal by growing my own food. Also, I do not like gmo produce and monsanto yikes. I love how the left claims to be green when their leaders vote against small farms and heirloom seed companies.

This bill did pass the Senate. While we have been upset about the TSA, the Senate is pushing through this kind of stuff. The Finance Bill that passed last spring is also bad stuff. The Left howled about every move President Bush made, but Obama and the leftist in congress are pushing all kinds of control freak legislation and we don’t hear a peep from anyone.

How about an honest, objective explanation of the pros and cons – no diatribes please just a thoughtful review with pointers we can verify.

I work in our district’s lunch program and these POS machines have been used for over five years. I can understand that this could distress a person, but this process of tracking student lunches has allowed us to control waste by closely determining what students will and won’t eat. Secondly, these student numbers are used in online payment into lunch accounts, tracking activity fees and student performance. I like the ease of tracking such student info online.

Tracking purchases in aggregate to streamline inventory and ordering processes is no problem whatsoever. Collecting data on individual student purchases, comparing them to federal nutritional guidelines, and sharing that data with state and federal governments without parental consent is a complete violation of privacy. The federal government has no business whatsoever tracking what my children eat individually.

A debit system could easily be a simple internal payment system to streamline accounts. I can understand why this would make things easier. It would for me, too. But that is not all it is. In fact, some school districts have openly reported that the primary purpose of the system is to allow the government to track food selections; the ease of checkout is a secondary benefit and used as a selling point for parents and staff.

The school system has absolutely no business whatsoever sharing my cash-paying, non-subsidized children’s eating information with the government without my consent, or even (for most parents) their knowledge that it is happening.

We will be packing lunches for my older kids all the time now, but that ticks me off to be forced into it. My kids like pizza on Fridays and ice cream on whichever day that is. The fact that they can’t buy that now without being tracked is infuriating to me.

My younger children will not be attending the public school machine.

      Suggestions for all citizens everywhere:

      Two words: Home School.

Other suggestions for school: get involved as a parent and stay on the admins necks like the buzzer bee that you are and they will tire (after they resist) and do as you ask

Other simple solutions: take the train, or drive, or bus, or BOYCOTT the airlines

I’m a strong supporter of home schooling, but I recognize that this isn’t an option for everyone, and also object to the home school community (including those in my family) tending to disregard anything that’s happening in public schools. Indoctrination, centralization, national curriculum standards, the foisting of a political agenda on the minds of very young children… these are issues that affect our future generations’ views of civic engagement, freedom, and history. We should all object when we see things going wrong in public schools, whether we home school, are grandparents, or are childless.

The current move toward a more centralized, more standardized, one-size-fits-all, federally mandated school structure and curriculum should be of extreme concern. The system has moved rapidly away from any sense of local control or accountability.

Just today, Friedman in the NY Times quoted the following: “Wagner thinks we should create a West Point for teachers: “We need a new National Education Academy, modeled after our military academies, to raise the status of the profession and to support the R.& D. that is essential for reinventing teaching, learning and assessment in the 21st century.”

        Thought control, anyone?

But he’s probably on his way somewhere other than the WH.

The North Koreans just broke the 1953 armistice with China and the UN. How will China play this? They actually fired on civilians! This is very bad. Is the son as nuts as the father? Have they lost control of the military? Who gave the order to fire? Is there any way the CIA can dump a load of Xanax in their drinking water until we can figure out what is going on in that dark and paranoid country?

Rose to 18% when the plant closed.
Stimulus money partially re-opened the plant, so unemployment is down to 12%.
How is unemployment from 6% to 12% a victory to celebrate?

Irony: the first shift was sent home to allow security to clear the plant for Barry’s visit. Thye lost half a days pay so Barry could celebrate.

      oh wow……..look at this:

As for myself regarding the subject of the “birther” issue, I now openly admit to having “found religion” as it were. There indeed does appear to be something amiss. President Obama has spent millionshiding what most would indicate as rather basic information. Education records. Writings. Travel records. And yes, clear and comprehensive proof of birth and/or citizenship. Until recently, I was among those who discounted claims of a cover-up surrounding Barack Obama’s birth story as the silly rants of those with far too much time and resulting paranoia on their hands.

      No more.

There is an ongoing thread on FreeRepublic.com that is based on an Associated Press story from 1990 – pretty much a fluff piece about the “first African-American” to head the Harvard Law Review…..but it talks about him moving to Indonesian when he was only 2 – a fact contradicted by his own bio, which says he left Hawaii in 1967. There are also several pictures of him as a child, which are very confusing, as it appears he was in two different places at the same time. Somehow, the narritives don’t match (and the pictures look like they are of different kids). Somewhere, there is a dam of information about this guy that is waiting to break and I hope that EVERYONE, Republican or Democrat, that was part of the cover-up is hung for treason!

I know I’m screaming this repeatedly, but the linguistic footprints are vital. The previous posts from Ulsterman seemed to have quotes from several different sources.

This one has no direct quotes, which can mean several different things – possibly a combination.

      (1) He says he’s getting a more natural response from his sources. This could be obviously linked to someone, as the person is not as guarded, and he’s trying to protect his source.

      (2) On or more of his source have backed out and it’s harder to amalgamate the responses in a way that wouldn’t compromise the people behind it.

      (3) He’s lost all his direct sources, and genuinely doesn’t have any material he can quote from. He’s doing the best he can with what gossip he can piece together.

You are spot on. I thought that it was interesting that Ulsterman was stating “they”, talking in the plural.

This was not an interview, but it was an essay. It was like he was saying that he was using these sources and then making up his interview scenario.

However, what attracted me to this was the part about becoming a convert to the birth issue.

It seems to me to be meant to disguise the gender. It seems a little late to do that. Curious.

He makes one reference in the beginning to “his political party.” Then the rest is written to be gender neutral.

I am posting this story because I truly find it shocking:

    http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/milat-case-birthday-boy-victim-named-20101123-184mt.html

Here in Australia the name of Ivan Milat is enough to send shudders down the spine.

He is the man found guilty of the Belangalo State Forest murders, or the Backpacker murders. All of his victims were international backpackers. The deaths were gruesome.

Now it seems that his nephew (18 years old) has murdered a 17 year old on his birthday by taking an axe to him… gruesome.

Such goings on (lots of blood and violence at the murder scene – even where such is not required to subdue the victim) are indications of severe child abuse. Rage.

The fact that it “runs in the family” may be genetic or common parenting “styles”. Or both. You may have susceptibility with an activating event required.

I will tell you what I think – you would not know about the gruesome details of the backpacker murders. They were absolutely shocking…

For many years there have been rumors that Ivan Milat did not work alone when doing the murders.

The evidence turned up at his sister’s home. The backpacks from the dead backpackers were stored in the roof.

The murders happened in pairs. It is very possible that another member of the family was waiting in the Belanglo State Forest whilst Milat went roving for his victims and drove them to the designated spot.

I am thinking that this boy’s father was very likely involved in those murders.

I think you’re referring to “Wolf Creek.” The trailers all said “based on true events.” When I researched it at the time, however, it was believed to be based on several different killers, including Milat.

Also, it was revealed that the write had written the story many years earlier, then changed some of the details to make it fit more closely with actual events. Apparently you can make more money if people believe it’s based on a true story.

It’s my understanding that it’s a very loose connection.

I think this whole thing is just really sad. It represents how desperate some people are in this country to find happiness…and they think it will come through money. Money they didn’t earn.

I occassionally get notices in the mail because of products/services that I’ve purchased, inviting me to either join in a class-action lawsuit or to claim money from one that’s already been settled. But I’ve never had a problem with any of the products/services, so it just doesn’t seem right to collect money from them. I paid my fair amount and got what I was promised. That’s honest trade.

I’ve received multiple phone calls from people claiming I could be eligible for free money from the gov’t just for owning a home, etc. I always tell them, I’m not interested in any gov’t handouts. It really blows their mind and they get confused. They simply don’t know how to respond. But why should I take other people’s hard-earned money?

I have no problem with paying my fair share of taxes, but I want to know that the money is being used properly and not just given to someone else. It’s sad that some people think of it as the gov’t's money and not their neighbor’s money.

I’d go for the way she disregards all her critics as haters and extremists. I can forgive a lot from someone who is at least self aware.

But the fact that she plainly can’t write and still got a book deal rankles too. Or the way she claims she’s soooooo empowered and is going to ignore any gibes about her weight – just before she screams about all the meeaaann people.

Or the going on leftist media to bash conservatives. The nepotism is pretty annoying, too.

Wait, why exactly is the GOP meant to listen to her, again?

She is out there on a high wire embarrassing herself with her overreaching statements and supposed “insider” information, and her know-it-all attitude. No one in her family or [does she have any?] friends are willing to be honest with her and tell her to stop sounding like a female Obama – lecturing and chastising the citizens on how much they don’t know and how ignorant and bigotted they are? And no one is willing to tell her in no uncertain terms that the media aren’t her friends – that they are using her to get RATINGS. I have come to dislike her persona and usually turn the channel if she is on. I find her simply unlikeable.

Bev, you are right to be worried. The crazies up north are unpredictable, malnurished, probably poisoned with chemicals, and they are in the dark most of the day. They live in stone-age hovels unless they are related to or working directly for the party biggies. So sad. And now their leaders are lobbing missiles at their southern neighbors. This could blow at any time. This could even get nuclear. And who have we get at the helm? Dear God in Heaven, it’s the most incompetent fool. This is Hillary’s 3 AM moment. If she can work magic with this, she will be reconsidered by many who dismissed her as a candidate and as a woman.

I am praying too. One friend of more than 30 years has family in So. Korea – brothers and their families. Her mother died recently – was in her 90′s. So she was back there within the last year. She is having a difficult day.

Don’t worry too much. China has their hands on it (remarkably I trust them more than Obama). Our military overwhelmingly is superior to NK. I’m sure they are trying to diffuse the situation. Trust and faith in our military =)

Interesting you say that. She looked robotic to me. Just doing steps and counting on him not to hurt her back, legs, knees, and whatever else was ailing her. The dance was too fast for any drama and in addition, she didn’t show “dramatic face”…she had the same face on as she does with the jive. I think she does Botox as well as her unfortunate nose issue. There isn’t much change in the expression. And certainly not the eyebrows. But you are right, her partner was doing rings around her – it was part of the choreography and clever, but not sexy.

I had to attend a meeting last night and didn’t watch live, but after seeing the videos, I am ecstatically happy about Bristol and Mark!

Tonight, one of two things will happen, and both are good outcomes.

    (1) They will win and be a strong witness of a gracious winner.

    (2) They will be eliminated and be a strong witness of a gracious loser.

Week after week, they have already been strong witnesses of gracious competitors.

These madmen would not be doing that if we had a real president in the White House. Now Iran will follow, knowing this coward puppet Obama will not do anything to back Israel.

This is also a wake up call to Hillary, the SOS under Obama. Hillary’s attachment to Obama is what keeps her down with any real opportunity for 2012 or 2016 or 2020.

I bet with President Sarah Palin these maniacs would be trembling and thinking it twice before challenging us and our allies.

I saw that. I think a lot of the ratings last week were from Palin haters curious to know if she’d take on Obama or liberals. When they saw not, they knew they didn’t need to watch again. And also possibly independents who saw the episode and didn’t feel they felt Sarah and her family were interesting enough to come back this week.

I watched Sunday night. I thought the second half of the episode was boring. The fishing part. Also, I love the woman but really don’t like Palins shrill voice nor the funky way she puts sentences togather. When writing she comes off so great. Speaking off the cuff, it’s just so much more disjointed. I know in some ways it’s endearing but in other ways, it’s distracting. And when people spend too much time thinking they don’t like her voice nor her sentence syntax, they don’t concentrate on her message. I wish that Tood, Bristol and Willow would be featured more in the little individual talk cutaways on the show and maybe even do some narration.

The sad thing is this gives liberals (and elite GOPers) more ammo to say that Sarah has finally become overexposed. And to point out the only people she appeals to are older Americans and therefore, can’t be the 2012 nominee since she won’t attract younger people nor independents because they’re not interested in what she has to say.

I would like to know why when a person voluntarily buys an airline ticket he or she is automatically considered a “suspect”. There has got to be a way to address it. Also, if a person does not voluntarily buy health insurance, they get “fined”. Does nobody see what is going on here. These people that say they have no problem with TSA procedures are idiots.
