Isn’t is amazing how hard it is for them to be intellectually honest? Progressives figure that if they psychoanalyze the foe, that makes them correct. Facts and your open acceptance of the truth is what will make you correct.

Progressives LITERALLY go down the path of mindereadnig. Joe Wilson shouting ‘You lie’ had pundits saying he really was thinking “you like BOY!” (really, I mean, they KNEW what he was thinking).

A recent discussion had a friend climbing all over me for saying “I hate change” and lecturing me about Obamas change being a sign we were out of the dark ages of racial discrmination. I then explained the ‘change’ I was referring to was the closing of a local watering hole that had been around since I was a baby— a place where everyone hung out in the afternoons.

Again… they assume they’re mind readers!

Another time it was one a post was made about taking the country back… and yes, the knee jerk jerks read into it “Back to the days of slaves and women in the kitchen”….
GEEZ LOUISE! Where do they get off with this stuff!?!?

You should see her speak when you don’t have control freaks like Matthews talking over her.

She’s right. This is about abuse of the Commerce Clause. The rest of it is a desperate attempt to spin the tea partiers as frankly, whackjobs who want to secede from the Union.

They will never stop trying to marginalize them in order to have the rest of America ignore them.

      Constant insidious innuendo.

I watched the video and what I saw was more than disturbing. Matthews asks a question, [paraphrasing but not far off] i.e. “don’t you think the signs are racist and mean and nasty?” Dana says: “How about the “Kill Bush” signs and burning him in effigy?” He says “Why do you allow racists into your group?”

He’s got a script – he sticks to it no matter what she says and she was great! He’s a left wing nut that has an agenda to add to the talking points of “Tea Partiers are all racist, knuckle dragging birthers” and “they are dangerous too.”

Dana really held her own and answered every charge against them – I loved when she said “so the left wing doesn’t have fringe? How about the
        ‘truthers’?”

At least Matthews was semi-sober during the interview [although he did slur a few words]. I don’t watch him anymore but when I used to, he was drunk on the air so many times I can’t believe they kept him on. I hope they send a car for him because I’m sure he has been in no condition to drive many times.

He’s probably pickled too many brain cells to be a coherent representative of the left. They should “move him on.”

        Gackkkk!!

My guess is that city administrator is going to lose his cushy job with all those perks over this. The city council met and overturned his decision. They reported that their phones were ringing off the hook. They released the press release on Saturday and the Churches in Iowa were outraged and discussed it from the pulpit on Palm Sunday, one of the most attended Church service in the country. Yeesh.

The whole Brouhaha was started by the “volunteer” Civil Rights Commission who said having “Good Friday” on the calendar was “unconstitutional”.

At the risk of sounding politically incorrect, God save us from these buffoons who want the holiday – but also don’t want to acknowledge the 2000 year old reason for the holiday.

these people are stupid. They do not understand the meaning of separation of church and state.

What it means is that there will not be a state religion’

Say for example Dr. Utopia attempted to impose Sharia upon you, then that would be unconstitutional because that would truly breach the separation of powers of church and state.

As it stands what you have allows Scientology to exist as a church, even though the govt has tried to ban Scientology in the past. The govt failed because there is freedom of religion not freedom from religion.

    Grrr…

    http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/shut_up_he_argues_uirufysrkDvUbxPbciPl5O

    Shut up, he argues

    By RICH LOWRY

Henry Waxman is peeved. He expects corporate America to swallow health-care reform without a peep of protest — and, apparently, without revealing new costs to shareholders or the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Last week, AT&T announced it will take an immediate $1 billion write-down thanks to a new tax in the health bill that will cause Caterpillar ($100 million) and Deere & Co. ($150 million), among other large employers, to do the same. The benefits consultancy Towers Watson estimates that the change may reduce corporate profits by as much as $14 billion over time.

That’s real money. For comparison: It’s enough to bribe Sen. Ben Nelson of the Cornhusker Kickback 140 times over; it’s three times the amount Democrats poured into a (failing) weatherization program that once was a highlight of the stimulus bill; it represents 10 percent of the supposed deficit reduction of health-care reform over 10 years.

It may be that the health bill’s most immediate, high-profile effect is the destruction of shareholder wealth.

Not to fear. Waxman, the liberal lion who chairs the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is on the case. No, he doesn’t want to change the tax provision — he wants to browbeat the affected corporations. He has called the CEOs of AT&T, Caterpillar and Deere to testify before his committee, accompanying his summons with a far-reaching document request lest the corporations miss the point: This is naked political harassment.

Citing the Congressional Budget Office, Waxman says his concern is that the write-downs appear “to conflict with independent analyses.” If he’s genuinely surprised at the real world departing from CBO projections, he should brace himself for more shocks. Is he going to demand that OMB Director Peter Orszag testify when the projected deficit reduction doesn’t materialize?

Waxman maintains his interest is ensuring the bill “does not have unintended consequences.” Because an immensely complex bill of more than 2,000 pages would never have any of those, right?

But Waxman’s vendetta and the offending write-downs are hardly unintended or unforeseen.

Democrats clearly plan to blame the private sector for all the downsides of their health plan. In a private lobbying session, President Obama told liberal lawmakers that the bill is only “a beginning.” Any increase in costs and premiums — both of which are inevitable — will be attributed to corporate malfeasance requiring yet more government intervention.

Democrats can’t say they weren’t warned about the coming write-downs. Companies began to receive a tax-free, deductible subsidy in 2003 to continue prescription-drug coverage for their retirees, a ploy to keep the firms from dumping retirees into the new government prescription-drug program. Outside experts and big employers counseled against ending the deductibility, pointing out that it would adversely affect the companies’ financial statements immediately. (Account- ing rules require corporations to note the long-term effect of the new liability right away.)

These warnings got shelved under a category ensuring their brusque dismissal: Information Inconvenient to the Passage of Health-Care Reform. Now that the prediction has come to pass, it’s all AT&T’s fault.

The companies will reconsider providing prescription-drug coverage for their retirees at all. The Employee Benefit Research Institute calculates that companies could now save $1,000 per beneficiary by handing them off to the government. As many as 2 million more retirees could end up on the government program, according to James Klein of the American Benefits Council. These retirees might wonder about the truthfulness of Obama’s constant promise that everyone can keep his current insurance.

The CBO estimated that the new treatment of the subsidy would generate roughly $5 billion in revenue. If companies stop taking the subsidy, that revenue disappears — while the costs of the drug program increase.

A Towers Watson study stipulates that “employer plans generally provide much better protection than the standard Medicare benefit.” And subsidizing those employer plans is cheaper to the government than providing the coverage itself.

In short, a lose-lose-lose proposition — no doubt, the first of many. Henry Waxman will be a busy man. comments.lowry@ nationalreview.com

        Unfortunately, here’s what we’d get:

        http://www.weeklystandard.com/articles/economics-dummies

You probably missed it. But a new school of economics was unveiled last week shortly after health care reform passed the House of Representatives. Speaker Nancy Pelosi stepped to the podium in the House chamber and said the legislation will “unleash tremendous entrepreneurial power” and create millions of jobs. “Our economy needs something new, a jolt,” she said. And she and her Democratic colleagues had just delivered it.

Pelosi, author of the new departure in economic thinking, said we should now “imagine a society and an economy where a person could change jobs without losing health insurance, where they could be self-employed or start a small business.” With health care reform, “their entrepreneurial spirit will be unleashed.”

That’s not the half of it. While insuring 32 million more people, making insurance “more affordable for the middle class,” producing “a healthier America through prevention, through wellness and innovation,” and a whole lot more—in addition to all that, the legislation creates “4 million jobs in the life of the bill and [does] all that by saving the taxpayer $1.3 trillion.”

The proper response if you believe Pelosi even a little bit is, “Thank you, Nancy!” or perhaps simply, “Wow!” But restrain yourself. Pelosi has a gift for economic lunacy. This wouldn’t be especially worrisome, except Pelosi is second in line to the presidency and would be prime minister if we had a parliamentary system.

So far as I know, Pelosi is the first person in the universe to regard the lack of portability of health insurance as a deathblow to entrepreneurship. This idea is, to put it mildly, farfetched. Is there evidence that budding entrepreneurs have been deterred by the fear of losing health insurance for a spell? Don’t bet on it. Are future Michael Dells or Ted Turners or Pierre Omidyars suppressing their entrepreneurial juices because their doctor visits aren’t covered? Please.

Pelosi, as is the habit of Democrats, cited an uncheckable and probably imaginary case. “If they had a child with diabetes who was bipolar  …  they would be job-locked,” she insisted. Maybe so. But a job-locked entrepreneur? It’s surely overkill to revolutionize our entire health care system for the sake of that rare bird. Besides, there’s COBRA, the federal law that permits an employee who quits to stay insured for months.

The prospect of 4 million new jobs as a result of health care reform is also fanciful. It’s based on a study by two economists sponsored by the Center for American Progress (CAP), an advocacy group for liberal Democratic legislation. The study claims the reform legislation will modernize the health care system, generate administrative savings, slow the growth in insurance premiums, and allow businesses to hire between 250,000 and 400,000 employees a year for a decade. On the basis of this, Pelosi acts as if 4 million new jobs are a slam dunk. She actually appears to believe it.

The problem is the assumption about savings. Any savings from modernization are likely to be more than offset by medical breakthroughs that balloon the cost of care. The Beacon Hill Institute in Boston, using a less rosy scenario than CAP, reached the more realistic conclusion that health care reform will destroy 120,000 to 700,000 jobs over the next 10 years.

The CAP study echoes one of Obama’s cherished claims. Since his days as a presidential candidate, he’s been insisting reform will “bend” health spending downward. But this is more than a stretch. It’s a dream. History tells a different story. When free or subsidized health care is offered by the government (Medicare, Medicaid), the cost far exceeds initial (and later) projections. This has been the case for state as well as federal programs. Indeed, it’s a worldwide phenomenon. The one exception is the Medicare prescription drug benefit, which uniquely relies on free market competition. Pelosi, true to form, wants to replace that competition with price controls.
Pelosi is a faithful believer in the notion you can defy the laws of economic gravity and get more for less, once government steps in. Logic suggests otherwise. Health insurers will be forced to offer more benefits, including free preventive care, no annual or lifetime limits on coverage, and insurance for those with preexisting conditions. That’s just for starters. New taxes will be imposed on insurance companies and medical device manufacturers. A package of new benefits and tax hikes is hardly a recipe for cheaper premiums and lower overall health care costs.

Companies have already begun to figure out that their cost of doing business will rise, which means they won’t be hiring. Layoffs are more likely. Medtronic, which makes medical implements, said it might have to cut 1,000 jobs. It’s not only what businesses will pay for health insurance that is bound to increase. They’ll lose a tax break for providing drug coverage for retirees. And they’ll pay a higher Medicare tax for each employee.

There is one potential cost-cutting measure in the health reform legislation. High-cost, “Cadillac” insurance plans will face a 40 percent tax, which is certain to kill such plans and trim insurance costs.

But wait a minute. Pelosi didn’t like that tax. Four days after the reform bill passed, the Senate and House passed a second measure, dubbed “reconciliation.” Among other things, it delayed the 40 percent tax until 2018, a pretty good indication that the tax will never be levied.

Pelosi was in a joyful mood when reconciliation sailed through the House. It boosted health care spending, increased regulation, raised doctors’ fees, and added new taxes. Nonetheless, she asserted: “With this legislation in place, families will have access to even more affordable care” [emphasis added]. Her perverse school of economics had been vindicated again.

I just heard on WLS radio this am that the White House people went nuts and had a hissy fit when the companies made their announcements. They immediately stated that this was being done by Republicans as all CEOs are Republican. Cavuto had the CEO of the big steel company on last night. The write-offs they are taking are required by some federal law on how things are reported when federal laws change. Cavuto showed copies of letters that these major companies had sent to the Won’s admin. to alert them what this bill could mean. This letter or letters were sent out way last year. The Won’s people chose to ignore the implications in their determination to redistribute our wealth. He also showed copies of the letters that Waxman (Ratatouille) and Stupak (Judas) sent to the companies threatening them. Now the White House is going to spin it so the evil corporations are purposely undermining their healthcare debacle.

There was also a meeting with CEOs early last year at the White House to talk about this health overhaul. The CEOs tried to explain to the Won what this would mean for the companies and he didn’t seem to understand or want to understand. I’m not sure but isn’t this the same meeting that the CEOs had to get out their credit cards to pay for their meal?

Bottom line, as the articles above say, the required adjustments will cause less revenue for the government, less revenue for the stockholders, and the loss of benefits for millions of retired people. Job losses may follow and expansions of business will be curtailed to try to remain competitive. At least, that is my understanding.

Remember when they were chastising the auto execs for flying in to DC instead of driving? While they jet around in planes WE pay for. And no one holds them accountable.

How very Soviet of Waxman to demand documents and demand they come to Washington for a spanking. This is embarrassing for Waxman. He clearly is over his pay grade on this. He’s going to have to have someone interpret what the CEOs are going to tell him…that they are following the law/regulations that the SEC put into effect after Enron collapsed. They are REQUIRED to report this type of projected loss to their stock holders via their quarterly reports to the SEC.

I may just watch this committee meeting – and I hope that one of the CEOs paraphrases Welch to McCarthy: “Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?” It would be good to see a titan of capitalism throw that back in a socialists face.

last night I happened to watch the movie “Hoffa” with jack Nicholson and Danny Devito. There was a mobster in the movie named Carol D’alessandro . The name instantly clicked, for Nancy Pelosi’s father was Tommy D’alessandro, former mayor of Baltimore. When he ws mayor the mob essentially ran unchecked, the heroin trade flowed through the Baltimore harbor and Tommy hobnobbed with Lucky Luciano. I hit upon an article from 2006 that discussed Nancy Pelosi continuing her daddy’s legacy in San Fran taking over The Presidio area as well as many other corrupt deals. The sickening reality is that Pelosi comes from a long line of immoral criminals, her family probably has strong mafia roots .
We must continue to fight these people every DAY OF OUR LIVES!!! Oh yeah, the movie was critically panned because it depicts the Unions in less than favorable light, Hoffa must have been Andy Stern’s hero as a kid.

The libs also need to isolate and radicalize the tea party patriots. Read this article :

        Brilliant Bijou!

This is quite an eye opener. Lest we forget what a great CIC GWB was…Semper Fi indeed…

I think the setting makes a difference too. BHO walks in to “hail to the chief” and stands above them to lecture. And GWB walks in to “stars and stripes forever” walking amongst them – not putting himself above them. He shakes hands, signs autographs, takes photos with them. GWB is a just a warm person. BHO is not.

Keep in mind that the advance men travel before the president and knows what he wants. They set up the venue according to what he wants. GWB has self confidence, and wants an informal, easy going venue where he can make it all about the troops. BHO is always demanding to be respected and admired in every venue. And probably wanted to establish his CIC importance. And after 8 years of GWB, the Marines probably miss him – I’m sure they remember all the lousy things BHO said about the troops/war/GWB while he was in the senate and running for president. It gave them aggita they didn’t need to hear.

I wonder how those poor guys in Afghanistan dealt with him keeping them awake so long to greet him.

I think things are calming down a bit and I’m glad. No, I don’t think we should forget or lose our enthusiasm to vote the Dems out, but I get worried when the country gets outraged and tense. It emphasizes just how dangerous this president is. He is not a leader in any sense. He is a political thug. His political geeks like Axelrod, Rahm and Gibbs have more influence in what he does than anybody else. I have 0 confidence that he would do the right thing for the country in any given circumstance. His party is stuffing their pockets with our money and all we can do is wait until the next election to stop their plundering. They exploit every situation they can to steal money from our country.

It is a beautiful spring day in Tennessee. The birds are out. Cool mornings, warm days, cool evenings, perfect weather. People are starting to mow their lawns. Running around this past week I saw a lot of grim faces. Yesterday I ran some errands and people seemed a little less tense. Easter decorations are going up. Religion is a very important thing here in the south so most people are turning toward the church for comfort. I personally am not an overly religious person but I have to admit this past week I’ve given it more thought than I usually do.

A new thing to be outraged about. The gay marine who died in the war. That freak, cult, bunch of Jim Jones delusional idiots from Westboro church who protested at his FUNERAL was sued by the father. Imagine your son dieing for your country only to have some cult group of hate-filled SCUM protest his being gay at his FUNERAL. The father sued and lost. They are protected under the first ammendment. This group is the most disgusting group of inbred hicks I have ever seen in my life. Thank God they don’t live in the South. We already have to fight off images of HeeHaw enough as it is…I can’t imagine if this group was here. Here is the one instance when Obama’s thugs would actually come in handy. Surely there is something somebody could do to this group to make them shut up. What an ugly, nasty, group of people. I’m glad the media stopped interviewing them and giving them exposure. They just make me ill.

So it’s a beautiful sprind day and I’m determined not to let Obama or the news ruin it. I’m watching DVDs today.

I believe the father won the initial suit, which was then appealed and the decision was overturned. He is now ordered to pay the 16K in court costs. Fox News said this will go to the SCOTUS. It should. But unless there’s some obscure law we don’t know about I do fear that it is protected under free-speech. Maybe there’s some sort of “inciting to riot” or some such thing they can be nailed with?

The HB asked us to report on our area. I’m reporting in my area, and in my home…here where I am. And I do feel that the situation has calmed down a bit. People aren’t on the edge of a stroke like they were a week ago. And that is a GOOD thing. I’m not saying we should forget or we will forget…

I personally don’t think it’s healthy to sit and worry 24 hours a day. And I think it’s easy to believe every single thing you read. Remember the news media and blogs will put stuff out to attract your attention and they sensationalize everything. It’s all about money. And NO…I’m not faltering or losing my resolve…and YES I know someone is going to write and be upset by what I just said but it’s true. That’s how they make money. All of them do it.

Bev, no one here would ever attack you. We know what you are saying. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I believed it was going to be a rough year and that we would have to “rest in shifts” so we don’t burn out. We need everyone to be able to have the energy to combat this group of n’er do wells in a focused way, with calm determination [and a few laughs along the way].

I am happy to read that you are noticing the grass and the flowers and the birds. It’s a good sign that you are resting your mind and that when the next Obamanation comes flailing at us, you’ll be ready for it. Pretty soon the mares will foal. My favorite time of year.

I’m preparing to gather with some friends to go down to DC on April 15th for the Tea Party Tax Day. It should be bigger and better than the last one. I’m looking forward to it and hope the weather breaks here on the East Coast. It was dismal for the last 3 days. Our bay met the Ocean in a few areas! Dreadful rain – and the puppy still had to be walked. I found myself stomping in puddles. It helped. Hahah.

Where’s the money to support this group’s disgusting activities? Doesn’t anyone think it strange that they can afford to do this? Travel is expensive.

Just as I smelled BS with the “spitting and n-word” accusation at the steps of the Capitol, I suspect that this group is an “agent provocateur”, aka astroturf.

What if our old friend Soros is paying the bills for this outfit, which simultaneously disgraces the military, the evangelicals (Sarah’s faith), conservatives…

I wish the father had known about the Patriot Riders motorcycle group. When asked, they will ride en masse to the church and cemetary to escort the family. They ride forward, to the sides, and bring up the rear of the entire funeral cortege. When they get to the cemetary, they block the gate so no one can get in and they have these huge flags that shields the family from seeing any protestors or their vicious signs.

They were here 3 years ago to escort a Marine who was killed in Iraq. I have never been prouder of bikers. God bless them all.

I think this family’s funeral was one of the early targets – it was after those experiences that the Patriot Riders were formed.

FWIW, I think this award will be overturned. The dad won at trial, with something like a $2.5mil damages award. This appeals court struck down that award AND gave court costs to the defendants. According to present rules, court costs should only be awarded if the initial action is frivolous, and since he won at trial, it clearly WASN’T frivolous. My guess is that the case will be reheard “en banc” and the full appeals court will reverse the 3 judge panel on the court costs issue.

Remember how furious people were when he held up the military with his “decision-making” process last fall? Nobody talks about that now. They just talk about how great the war in Afghanistan is going (which is ironic considering the war-protestors sure aren’t getting any news coverage like they did with Bush).

They will keep piling on to get this subject as far back out of the minds of the American people as possible. I don’t trust Obama or the news media. They work together.

Cars with bumper stickers plastered all over them. The local bookstore had bumper stickers, buttons, all anti-Bush right by the register. Now there is nothing. I boycott that store.

          Bev,

That’s his tactic but it’s not working or working well. While people are not talking about his “dithering” making decision about troops to Afghanistan” it’s still one more thing that is in the recess of their minds…what lawyers call “cumulative damage”. He has lost the trust of most of the country including D’s I know. He’s done that by the drip-drip-drip of bad decisions, bowing to heads of states that are not “friendlies” and dismissing our allies – i.e. The British Monarch and the Prime Minister of Israel. His foreign policy is atrocious. He insults Bibi Netenyahu and writes letters to Iran begging them to meet with him. He manipulated the Stimulus and pulled what my mother used to call the “bums rush” in getting it passed before anyone read it. The same with his $3.8 Trillion budget. He’s fired CEOs of Auto Companies and turned the stock over to unions. He’s capped the salaries of financial CEOs. I could go on…but the point is that it’s one egregious insult after another. The anger might not be blazing 24/7 – sometimes it simmers…but it’s ALWAYS there.

Remember how many viewers they are losing???? Scads. They depend on us helping them keep their exposure up.

I know it’s a dicey game because a response IS needed, so they don’t control the conversation all the time. But can we focus on the RESPONSE, and skip the REACTION?

We are never going to win the argument with the MSM. We could go on their shows all day long and tell everyone the tea party is not racist and it does no good. It just gives them more reason to continue putting us on the defensive. We need to change the conservation. Obama does horrible when the conservation is out of his control. They are masters at control. We have got to stop falling into that trap.

    The Dinner Roll ..

Once upon a time I was invited to the White House for a private dinner with
    the President.

I am a respected businessman, with a factory that produces memory chips for
    computers and portable electronics.

There was some talk that my industry was being scrutinized by the
administration, but I paid it no mind. I live in a FREE country. There’s
nothing that the government can do to me if I’ve broken no laws. My wealth
was EARNED honestly, and an invitation to dinner with an American President
    is an honor.

I checked my coat, was greeted by the Chief of Staff, and joined the
President in a yellow dining room.

We sat across from each other at a table draped in white linen. The Great
Seal was embossed on the china. Uniformed staff served our dinner.

The meal was served, and I was startled when my waiter suddenly reached out,
plucked a dinner roll off my plate and began nibbling it as he walked back
    to the kitchen..

“Sorry ’bout that,” said the President. “Andrew is very hungry.”

“I don’t appreciate…” I began, but as I looked into the calm brown eyes
across from me, I felt immediately guilty and petty. It was just a dinner
roll. “Of course,” I concluded, and reached for my glass.

Before I could, however, another waiter reached forward, took the glass away
and swallowed the wine in a single gulp. “And his brother, Eric, is very
    thirsty,” said the President.

I didn’t say anything. The President is testing my compassion, I thought.
I withheld my comments and decided to play along. I don’t want to seem
    unkind..

My plate was whisked away before I had tasted a bite.

“Eric’s children are also quite hungry.”

With a lurch, I crashed to the floor. My chair had been pulled out from
    under me.

I stood, brushing myself off angrily, and watched as it was carried from the
    room.

And their grandmother can’t stand for long.”

I excused myself, smiling outwardly, but inside feeling like a fool.
Obviously I had been invited to the White House to be sport for some game.
I reached for my coat, to find that it had been taken.

I turned back to the President.

“Their grandfather doesn’t like the cold.”

I wanted to shout, “that was my coat!” But again, I looked at the placid
smiling face of my host and decided I was being a poor sport. I spread my
    hands helplessly and chuckled.

Then I felt my hip pocket and realized my wallet was gone. I excused myself
and walked to a phone on an elegant side table.

I learned shortly that my credit cards had been maxed out, my bank accounts
emptied, my retirement and equity portfolios had vanished, and my wife had
been thrown out of our home.

Apparently, the waiters and their families were moving in. The President
hadn’t moved or spoken as I learned all this, but finally I lowered the
phone into its cradle and turned to face him.

“Andrew’s whole family has made bad financial decisions. They haven’t
planned for retirement and they need a house. They recently defaulted on a
subprime mortgage. I told them they could have your home. They need it
    more than you do.”

My hands were shaking. I felt faint I stumbled back to the table and knelt
    on the floor.

The President cheerfully cut his meat, ate his steak, and drank his wine. I
lowered my eyes and stared at the small grey circles on the tablecloth that
    were water drops.

“By the way,” he added, “I have just signed an Executive Order nationalizing
    your factories.

I’m firing you as head of your business. I’ll be operating the firm now for
    the benefit of all mankind.

There’s a whole bunch of Erics and Andrews out there and they can’t come to
you for jobs groveling like beggars…we need to spread YOUR wealth
    around…”

I looked up. The President dropped his spoon into the empty ramekin which
    had been his crme Brule.

He drained the last drops of his wine. As the table was cleared, he lit a
cigarette and leaned back in his chair.

He stared at me. I clung to the edge of the table as if it were a ledge and
I were a man hanging over an abyss.

I thought of the years behind me, of the life I had lived. The life I had
earned with a lifetime of work, risk and struggle.

Why was I punished? How had I allowed it to be taken? What game had I
played and lost? I looked across the table and noticed with some surprise
that there was no game board between us.

    What had I done wrong?

As if answering the unspoken thought, President Obama suddenly cocked his
head, locked his empty eyes to mine, and bared a million teeth, chuckling
wryly as he folded his hands.

“You should have stopped me at the dinner roll,” he said.

    WAKE UP AMERICA !!!

You know, I think we need to do some of our own collective soul-searching instead of blaming Bush and McCain for not “fighting back”.

Truth is, we should have gotten off our butts in 2006 and started protesting the spending after Pelosi took power. Bush was a lame duck President and the GOP were backbenchers. If we the people had stood up and marched on DC then, Bush would have had our backing and vetoed their spending. But no, we sat around and moaned, but did nothing about it. And I was one of them.

We live in a constitutional republic – a representative democracy. It’s up to US to be the watchdogs and to let our wishes be known. If we leave our pols to their own devices (and that goes for both parties), they will do their worst.

“If once the people become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, Judges and Governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions.” –Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, 1787. ME 6:58

Here’s a great article from the American Spectator.

    http://spectator.org/archives/2010/03/30/americas-quiet-anger

Here’s an excerpt from the article:

“There is a quiet anger boiling in America.

It is the anger of millions of hard-working citizens who pay their bills, send in their income taxes, maintain their homes and repay their mortgage loans — and see their government reward those who do not.

It is the anger of small town and Middle American folks who have never been to Manhattan, who put their savings in a community bank and borrow from a local credit union, who watch Washington lawmakers and presidents of both parties hand billions in taxpayer bailouts to the reckless Wall Street titans who brought down the economy in 2008.

It is the fury of the voiceless, the powerless, the ordinary nobodies of Flyover Country who are ridiculed, preached to, satirized and insulted by the Celebrity Loudmouths of the two Left Coasts, the Jon Stewarts and Keith Olbermanns, the Paul Krugmans and their ilk.”

My husband and I talk a lot about politics and he shares my concerns. I tend to be more involved, but my husband is a little more low key. He told me one day when I asked if he would like to join me at a rally, “I don’t like those things. I just want to provide for my family, pay the bills and have a little left over for my kids.” He’s a hard-working guy who’s taking care of business, but I think that all across America, we’re finding out that even that isn’t enough anymore to oppose this over-reach of government.

But if he doesn’t stand up, who will stand for the millions of people like him who feel the exact same way?

Conservatives don’t naturally gravitate towards picket signs and rallies. People on the left ponder ‘you didn’t care about this stuff with Bush’, but that is because of THIS. Conservatives live their lives just trying to do the right thing and don’t want to bother other people and don’t want to be bothered. If they gripe, it’s occasionally at the dinner table or while watching the news. Big mouths get on talk radio. Private worrying about the direction things are taking and doing nothing tangible about it.

But we’re at the point now where there is a runaway train and if the conservative people of America do not stand up against this, the little dream that he’s talking about will disappear.

I have stopped at moments during the course of this year, so damned sick and tired of the rhetoric, the news, the antics of Washington and the serious implications of it all. It’s like being in fight or flight for too long and I just stand there, tired.

But there is reason to do this. There is a reason to take a stand. There is a reason to get out of your comfort zone and say not only no, but HELL NO.

Because if this goes on too long, we won’t be able to stop it in the future. There will come a point where you won’t be able to change things.

You stand up because at some point if you don’t, your only option will be to stand down.

As I headed off to the rally outside Melissa Bean’s office on the day before the Rationing Bill was passed by the House, my father said he didn’t think it was going to make a difference.

My reply to him was that the point was less about changing Rep. Bean’s vote than it was to stand out on a corner (in the wind and snow, no less) and let everyone who drove by know that this was an issue that people cared about. And more than that, if it tells one person driving by who had been worrying about what was happening in the country that they are not alone, that a lot of people share their concerns, and that they can have a voice too, then it would be well worth it.

My father’s response? “I guess it’s well worth it for that.”

Good for you Andi, we need to get involved! I’m in the 11th District, and I’m going to volunteer to help get Adam Kinzinger elected.

Did anyone happen to read the article by John Kass, in the Sun. Chicago Tribune? It’s titled, “Lipinski lonely but proud to be pro-life Democrat”. Dan is one of the few Dems. that voted no for the HC Bill. He said…..”We were voting for a bill that is financially unsustainable. And I couldn’t support that bill.”

Kass says, “And I can see that the sliming of Lipinski continues by those unnamed White House sources. Last week’s media spin was the Lipinski’s father installed him in Congress for great health care. Dan Lipinski is a diabetic. Therefore, the spinners whispered, Lipinski is a hypocrite for voting against the president.”

I say that if we want to see a hypocrite, we should just look at our President. He should win an award for being the biggest one!

Lipinski’s comes from a Catholic, conservative district. Isn’t it refreshing that someone out there is actually working for their constituents!

Been gone again trying desperately to save my job. So far just “treading water”. Getting ready to go out the door again in a few minutes.

I haven’t had the time to look back at previous threads, so I don’t know if this was talked about or not.

Do these arrests of “Christian militia” groups disturb anyone else besides me? First of all, what happened to “innocent until proven guilty”? Secondly, since when is it ok to send U.S. military against U.S. civilians? Thirdly, they didn’t DO anything except buy weapons- so far anyway. If we asked to have someone arrested because they threatened me, what would I be told? They didn’t DO anything, so we can’t arrest them, right? Well…. think about it.

Also… and I know saying this is going to make some of you cringe a bit… does this bring back memories of Waco? It does for me. I was absolutely terrified at the time that the government could send troops out against Christians just because they had weapons and it SEEMED LIKE they might be against the government…. or because of not paying taxes even. I read everything I could get my hands on about it back then. I watched videos from the MSM that were done slow motion, freeze-frame, you name it. I heard interviews from people who had gotten out of the compound who didn’t say what the government was accusing them of. Remember, back then the first attack was for the same reason as now: stock piling weapons with a possible INTENT on using them against the government. Then, when word leaked out and Waco people barricaded themselves inside all these other horror stories “leaked out” from our wonderful government- things that other people who had been in there denied.

The reason some of you will cringe is this- who was president then? Bill Clinton. I don’t recall any other time when the U.S. government was called out against U.S. civilians who had not DONE anything against the government- except for our last two democrat presidents. Old man Bush, nor GWB, nor Reagen. Clinton and Obama. Does it seem odd that when a D is POTUS they don’t seem to mind putting the U.S. military against U.S. civilians who didn’t DO

Karen, I had never heard of “Waco” before that couple of days toward the end of the seige. My husband and I were watching something on TV and the news broke in with the beginning of the attack with gas. We watched silently and then the fire started. He looked at me and said “what the hell are they doing?” I just kept watching as the fire got larger and larger. I couldn’t believe they weren’t putting it out!

I never heard of Koresh and wondered what was going on…all the while feeling very uncomfortable about watching the military being involved – although aparently the WH had alerted the press that they weren’t going to be used except for “logistics” meaning, I guess, providing the equipment [tanks] and the men who knew how to use it.

It was horrible to watch knowing children were inside – the same children they said they were trying to protect! And they let the fire burn for soooo long! How could anyone live in there?

It was a terrible day. And I know what you mean about having the military involved. And I am uncomfortable about press releases going out in advance of law enforcement knowing exactly what is going on in this recent case.

That is not to say there couldn’t be a group that is so anti-government that they were prepared to use anarchy to blow it up. But before they announce that Christians have guns and therefore they are guilty of conspiracy to blow things to hell, it would be a good idea to be able to provide the public with a verifiable, concrete story of exactly what they are being charged with and provide the proof that we can understand.

In keeping with the Hillbuzz request about what’s news in my neck of the woods, this was a big topic of conversation in my neck of the woods, near Washington, DC.

First, everyone noted how the media kept describing them as a “Christian militia.” Yet, the guy who has been arrested for threatening Eric Cantor is NOT described as a Muslim and Obama supporter and donor. Why?

Second, a caller said, “nine guys? That’s not a militia, that’s a gang.” Hah!

Finally, I would like to point out that just because they are “Christian” does not make them conservatives. Fred Phelps of the Westboro “Baptist” Church runs around screaming about gays and protesting Marine funerals, but he was a politically active Democrat for years. We don’t know their political ideology at this point.

True… “Christian” doesn’t mean conservative, nor does it really mean saved Christian either. The One’s pastor just as an example.

However, it still “rubs me wrong” that the D presidents don’t seem to find anything wrong with sending the U.S. military out against U.S. civilians who didn’t NOTHING WRONG. This, to me, opens up a whole can of worms of things against our U.S. justice system, things against the constitutional freedoms, and much more. It opens it up so the U.S. government can send troops against any American just on hearsay… who DID NOTHING wrong. Does anyone see anything really wrong about all this? First Waco with the last D president, and now these this weekend with this one.

I heard the PBS report on the “Christian Militia” too. Seems the group have stronger ties to insanity than any real religious beliefs. the leader holds to some crazy ideas of the antichrist. He thinks that by starting a violent conflict with police, this would trigger a larger conflict, and then there is a connection to battling the antichrist. Seems the leader has his own special interpetation of Revelation.

what you might not recognize is that people who are mentally ill are very into the Bible.

In this case, after taking a quick glance at one of the news reports, this man was very much into self-interpretation of the Bible.

The case against the group is less about them being Christian, and more to do with their plot to kill police in order to provoke an uprising.

If what is claimed is true, then it is a good thing that the Feds have acted now rather than letting them do anything as planned.

What gets my undies in a bunch is the way the media makes SURE they say “Christian militia”. Where was the bending over backwards 3 mins. after the raid to announce that their faith was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with the planned attacks? Where was The One, giving a press conference, calling for calm and asking that cool heads prevail, and not to launch an offensive against other Christians? I’m almost hoping that some lefties mount a (FAILED) attack on a large Christian group or a church, while claiming that they are ridding the world of the evil dangerous Christians. Meanwhile, I’m off today so I’m preparing my Easter lesson and craft for my 4 yo Sunday School class and volunteering to watch the children during the Good Friday service. Damn,I’m dangerous..downright scary.

What amazes me is that I am frightened by this. This is, just like Waco, people who (at the time of the attacks) had done NOTHING against the law. They only owned guns. The things said about Waco are what the government told us about them, along with some people the government paid off. In both cases (Waco and these this weekend) innocent U.S. citizens were arrested by government figures just because they owned guns and on the “hearsay” that they “may” someday use them against eh government.

Don’t you see what this means for US? All we have to have are Obama supporters who make up a false claim against us and we can be arrested. If we resist arrest like Waco did, we can be killed. What happened to our justice system? IT IS GONE. What happened to “innocent before proven guilty”? IT IS GONE. THIS IS THE KIND OF THING THEY DO IN IRAN AND OUR DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTS HAVE BOTH NOW DONE IT HERE IN THE U.S.- AGAINST “We, the people”. This SHOULD be scaring the socks off everyone. Why isn’t it? Have we grown that complacent and that used to the losses of our freedoms that we just look away and yawn and forget about things like this?

I’m not really frightened, as it does appear that the group had websites touting their plans to kill a LEO, then go to the funeral so that they could get a bunch of LEOs at once. I’m assuming too, that the FBI had been watching these people, probably had moles inside the group, and felt it was time to move in. I’m very thankful that they DIDN’T follow through, as the fallout would’ve been worse.
That said, I do have to question the “timing” of the raid on the heels of the “Right wingers are dangerous” propaganda.

Saw this imbedded in the Drudge site. Do you think this elementary school play is real? Looks real with the bad set, audience, cameras flashing, but the play is “Scarface”? Take a look. Please tell me this isn’t true because I can’t stand to think that there are parents out there that think this is okay.

I don’t think that it’sa real school play, but someone taught the kids and rehearsed them for their own perverse pleasure, and yes I have a problem with it.

Kids aren’t things, they’re people. This is someone using them as objects for their own entertainment and it’s wrong.

No better than pictures on the net with a toddler with a cigarette hanging out of it’s mouth.

Thanks. I couldn’t find any way to find it funny. I’m always troubled when adults use kids like this.

Recently we had a charter school here in MN send a busload of kids from a K-8 school, to protest at the governor’s office about welfare reform. WTH!! My kids don’t go there, but I sent them an email to let them know that what they did was predatory. Hey adults! Quit making kids fight your causes. Do it yourself.

A move like that by a secularist only movivates us to openly recognize the day. Back in the day, I would say Happy Holidays because it was an appropriate Christmas greeting. Then the leftists racheted up the anti-Christmas rhetoric. Trying to change it to winter holiday. That just made me become a ‘militant’ Merry Christmas guy.

I remember when it wasn’t “Spring Vacation” but “Easter Vacation” because it always came at Easter so school was out either one week before or after Easter. That was in public school. It was always “Easter Vacation.”

A woman at one of the shops here got angry about the lack of Merry Christmas so when people walked into the store she greeted them with Merry Christmas. Did that raise hackles. Several people groused in the store and one slammed the door big time when she left.

In this city everything is political.

As the Boyz like stories from our towns, several CHRISTMASES ago, in Pittsburgh, the dahntahn light up; department store window reveals and tree at Point State Park festivities ALL revolved around (tada) something known as Sparkle Season.

I haven’t done “sparkles” since the 80s. I became, like you, a militant, hardcore, activist Merry Christmaser.

Smacked they down immediately. All they could reply was about Bush. Bush is long gone, I replied. I kept bringing the conversation back to what Obama was doing to destroy the country. These people are so “un”-informed. First they didn’t believe me, then after I showed proof on several points suddenly they have been struck dumb and they don’t want to talk politics.

I note today that Teh Won now states,
President Obama said many Tea Party followers have “mainstream legitimate concerns,” and acts like acknowledging that is some big concession.

Note also, he mentions alleged violence against Democrats who voted for HCR, but is quiet about violence and threats against Republicans. So much for bipartisanship.

The article does mention the arrest in the Rep Cantor case, but Teh Won remains silent.

I saw his statement about Tea Party’s “legitimate concerns”.

It just reminds me again that the statists and liberals and lying dhims have never had to deal with an opposition that is awake, thinking and speaking in complete sentences. They still think that tossing us a verbal bone like that will send us off in a humming mind fog, feeling all good because “we’ve been noticed.”

Normal people refuse to use that technique immediately after brutalizing their audience in specific, long range, life-changing ways.

It just clarifies more of WHO THEY ARE. Never forget what has been learned over the past 10-12 months. Never forget who they are, even if they start giving you extra candy and pocket cash. Do NOT forget WHO THEY ARE.

Statists are able to function by leaning on a constituency that either doesn’t want to be informed, is informed only about pop culture and what pop culture figures espouse or elites who live in a bubble where typical rules won’t apply. Statists are off their mark because one, conservatives are informed and two, we will not back down anymore.

Dr. Charol Shakeshaft is an expert on the sexual abuse of minors. She says that the abuse in public schools is much worse than that in the Catholic Church, fyi (not to diminish that was has happened in the Church is wrong! I agree that there needs to be an almighty house cleaning.)

    http://archive.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/4/5/01552.shtml

The point is, if it were really JUST about “the children,” reforms would be called for and instituted not only in the church, but in schools, as well. They are not. So, it’s also about going after religion. Specifically, Christians.

Example: California removed the statute of limitations on sexual abuse crimes by priests, but refused to expand the legislation to include public school teachers. So much for it being about “the children.”

Agree with you, there is an all-out assault on Christianity, and in particular, Catholicism.

I am not Catholic, but my husband is, and since he started to return to his faith in a more meaningful way, I can not help but be more aware of the rising tide of anti-Catholic bigotry all around us. I have lost track of the number of times people will state their belief that Catholics are not “part of the Christian church”. What ??? The first time I heard this, I just shrugged it off as a lone case, but I’ve heard it more often lately.

The Catholic bashing is really a dishonest assault against our culture and social cohesion. Think about it … it’s not just the religious component, but the touchstones of our lives are centered around religious milestones, whether or not we practice our faith. The Christian tradition and cultural cohesion it creates is the backbone of the Western tradition.

Christianity is all about liberty and freedom. Islam is most assuredly not.

Just like infighting among moderates and conservatives serves only the liberal/Progressive cause, so too does infighting in the Christian community only benefit those who have declared war on Christianity. We can talk and argue about our differences all we want at a later date; right now we’re all under assault, and we either unite to face it or fall separately.

Every year it is some new attack on Christians and especially the Catholic Church.

What is really shabby this time is that they brought up cases that date back to the 1950s!!!!!

Here is something I’ve been thinking about over the last couple of days…

I think the democratic party is going to have a hard time winning elections for the foreseeable future (I know – hardly insightful, but hear me out)

Since the healthcare bill has the effect of polarizing the country, every democrat that voted for the bill has a huge black mark against them. This black mark will be compounded by every other vote that they make in favor of the Obama agenda. The Obama agenda was only favorable because it was never revealed until after his election, so these reps and senators have no cover to rely on. This means that no democrat that voted for this bill, and others, can count on support from the right (marginal support during normal times) or independents (majority are so turned off by the dems).

So, where are the democrats going to find candidates? The current crop in congress are ruined, and the only safe dems come from the most left wing of districts.

Governors? Most dem governors are residing in states that are fiscal disasters.

Politicians are by definition self-serving, so any qualified centrist dem candidate is not going to want to subject their career ambition to the buzz saw that is the current political environment. Which means that the dems will start backing more leftist candidates by default.

…and I don’t believe leftists will win many elections now that people have woken up to what unabaited liberalism really means.

I’m fortunate, I live near the largest lake in the state, but the neighborhoods are built on the hillside. The main road will be flooded soon, but there are alternate routes to town. I feel so badly for these people.

So scary movies are terrorist by nature? I think your attempt to define terrorism is a bit simplistic and solipsistic.

Terrorism, as I was taught in school, is the use of violence against civilians to obtain a goal. Note: it’s against civilians. That’s one difference between terrorism and war. War has clear sides and the combatants wear a uniform to minimize the amount of civilian casualties (among other reasons).

The LSM and the Donks are trying to paint tea partiers as terrorists in order to marginalize them and discourage others from joining the cause.

Here is what is on my mind today…

I have loved to read all of my life…and I can remember, years ago, after reading ‘Atlas Shrugged,’ checking out Rand’s ‘Fountainhead,’ and then (and this was years before internet research) learning of Sinclair Lewis’ ‘It Cant Happen Here.’ It was written in the late 30s; the copy I checked out from the ‘big’ Carnegie Library (Pittsburgh) in the early 80s was probably shelved weeks after publication it was soo old…but, as Obama ‘ascended’ (que the choirs of Angels or Beyonce…whichever Me!Chelle will permit) I tried to revisit it.

Color me pleased that Breitbart’s BigGovernment had a little thread about the book:

when I was at school I was a voracious reader, and not long after reading 1984 for the first time I picked up a book by a female author. I can remember bits and pieces of the book, because like 1984 many of the “events” have come true. This was a book based on the rise of the feminist movement. In that book it got to the point where women did not need men in order to get pregnant.

The book was written well before artificial insemination was popular or even mentioned, and it was before the first efforts of in vitro fertilization.

If I am remembering correctly I think that there was a class warfare of some sort… on this my memory is hazy….

Not much in the way of detail but it spooks me to think that these authors have proved to be “prophets” in some respects.

The Handmaid’s tale by Margaret Atwood is pretty eerie in retrospect as well.

She talks of a world of surrogacy where Handmaid’s bear children for the wealthier and more upper status and the imposition of a rigid class structure.

And the impetus for imposing this New World order was a staged terrorist attack blamed on Muslims.

She wrote Handmaid’s Tale in 1985

Why the Health Care Bill Could Be Repealed
    By Sean Trende

The punditocracy has recently been consumed with a debate over whether or not the Republicans will be able to repeal the recently-passed health care bill. Outside of self-professed conservative pundits, the conventional wisdom seems to be that the odds are prohibitively against repeal (or significant modification).

This Politico article typifies the attitude of those who doubt that repeal can be effectuated. It argues that the current outrage over the health care bill is merely a part of a “familiar pattern since New Deal days: Government programs from Social Security to Medicare that were launched amid incendiary arguments within a short time became sacrosanct – protected by a bipartisan consensus that was nowhere to be found at passage.”

    Obama administration Health care

This is certainly one possible outcome for the President’s health care bill, but it isn’t the only one. Here is why repeal is a real possibility.

    1. This bill is substantively different than Social Security and Medicare.

My colleague Jay Cost made a critical point a few days ago:

Franklin Roosevelt and Lyndon Johnson made use of an ingenious social insurance system – promoting the idea that we all pay in today to take out tomorrow. It was consistent with American individualism. It was simple. It was intuitive. It was bipartisan. Obama’s new system has none of those virtues.
This feature is what makes repealing or substantially modifying Social Security and/or Medicare so difficult. They are entitlements that are broadly given to the middle class, who also pays for them. To the extent these programs are redistributive, that redistribution is largely hidden. Everyone, from the poorest member of society to Bill Gates, has some stake in Social Security and Medicare.

By the time a member of the middle class retires at age 65, he will have likely paid tens of thousands of dollars into the Social Security system. He expects to get that money back. The same goes for Medicare, which is funded by a smaller tax than Social Security (though unlike Social Security, that tax is not subject to an annual income cap), and is similarly available to all elderly Americans. In other words, cutting Social Security or Medicare requires taking something away from the middle class that they’ve already paid for. That’s obviously hard to do.

While this bill was intended to be a broad middle class entitlement in the mold of Social Security and Medicare, it is fundamentally different. It is funded by a variety of mechanisms that target specific stakeholders. It is paid for primarily by Medicare beneficiaries and the wealthy, neither of whom are likely to receive the benefits. While beneficiaries will have a stake in the program, it will not be as substantial as their stake in their Medicare or Social Security benefits, which they have already essentially “bought” by the time they approach retirement.

Moreover, this bill will have a smaller number of beneficiaries, especially at first. Democrats like to brag that in the weeks after the bill has passed, the ban on pre-existing conditions will be lifted for children, adults with pre-existing conditions will be allowed to participate in high-risk insurance pools, and adults will be able to maintain their children on their insurance until those children turn twenty-six.

These are popular features of the bill, but I’m not certain how broad their appeal is. Most people do not have pre-existing conditions that they know of, nor do they have children with pre-existing conditions (for whatever it is worth, I fall personally in the former category, and via my son into the latter). I’ve not seen statistics on the number of parents who would like to keep their children on their insurance policies, but I imagine the number is relatively small compared to the vast number of people who are eligible for Medicare or Social Security.

Indeed, the central difficulty that the bill will run up against is the same one it has run up against all along: most people already have health insurance, and most people are basically happy with their insurance. While a number of Americans will enjoy receiving subsidies for purchasing health care on the exchanges (in 2014), many of the 30 million Americans who will be covered by this bill are Americans who could buy health insurance today, but choose not to.

For a comparatively small number of obvious beneficiaries, the bill creates a number of real losers as well: People who participate in Medicare Advantage, healthy people who would rather not purchase insurance, and people whose employers stop providing health insurance as a result of the bill, to name a few examples.

    2. This bill is more similar to government programs that Congresses have repealed.

Programs that are perceived as broad middle class entitlements do tend to become untouchable. With programs that are perceived as social insurance or redistribution mechanisms, though, the track record is spottier. The idea that Congress never repeals programs once they have begun is unsupported by history. Congress repealed a large portion of the New Deal in the 1940s, and substantial portions of the Great Society were gutted as well; there is a reason that the WPA, CCC, and OEO are referred to only in history books.

Indeed, even the idea that Medicare is sacrosanct is belied by the substantial cuts to Medicare Advantage to fund the present health bill. Congress also substantially transformed a relatively unpopular redistributive entitlement program in 1996, when it reworked AFDC.

But the biggest elephant in the room is alluded to at the end of the Politico article: The Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act of 1988. It passed 360 to 66 in the House and by a similarly large margin in the Senate. It was signed into law by President Reagan in June of 1988.

The problems with the bill were many. There wasn’t much real demand for the bill, nor was there substantial demand for the benefits it offered, such as a ceiling on doctor bills, larger payments for nursing home care, and a prescription drug benefit. Many people on Medicare already had plans offering these benefits. It was paid for by a surtax on elderly people with incomes over $35,000, thus removing the traditional Medicare hook that recipients had already paid for the benefit their entire lives. And it was the subject of an intense disinformation campaign by opponents.

The results are legendary. 6,000 members resigned from the AARP in protest of its support of the bill. Congressmen returned home to hordes of angry elderly voters in town hall meetings. Congressman Dan Rostenkowski was chased down the street outside of his office by a mob of angry voters. Members blamed the disinformation campaign, the complexity of the bill, and their failure to explain it well. Regardless, they ultimately repealed the bill in 1989.

While no analogy is perfect, this health care bill more closely resembles the 1988 bill than it does original Medicare or Social Security. It is amazingly complex, is not understood well by its purported beneficiaries, and many, if not most, of its intended beneficiaries already receive benefits in one form or another. It creates real losers as well, as described above. Unlike the 1988 legislation, there is little bipartisan support for the present bill; there is some bipartisan opposition. Most importantly, there is no overwhelming demand for today’s particular legislation. People want health care reform, but it polls fairly low on most people’s priority list, and most polling shows that voters are more concerned with controlling costs than with expanding coverage. Today’s bill focuses on the former and indeed will increase costs for a substantial number of voters.

    3. This bill starts on a different footing than Social Security or Medicare.

Perhaps most importantly, the premise that Social Security and Medicare started out as extremely controversial programs is incorrect. Social Security and Medicare had their detractors, to be certain, but they were nowhere near as controversial as the present bill. Both programs passed with significant support from the minority party. I have yet to read stories of Congressmen being assailed at town hall meetings by angry constituents after voting for Social Security or Medicare. I know of no major push in Congress to repeal either program in subsequent Congresses, notwithstanding major gains by the opposition party shortly after their passage.

The American people didn’t grow to love Social Security or Medicare. Those programs had the people at “hello.” That is certainly not the case with the recent health care bill.

    4. Conservatives may have the votes to repeal the bill.

Finally, there is a substantial chance that Republicans will have the votes in the next few years to make significant changes to the programs, before the real benefits become payable in 2014. While control of the Senate remains a long shot for Republicans in 2010, Republicans should be favored to take that body over in 2012. If the political environment remains toxic for Democrats, the Republicans could even gain a filibuster-proof majority in 2012 or 2014. And while it is far too early to pass judgment on Barack Obama’s re-election prospects, Republicans probably have no worse than a 40% chance of defeating him in 2012; if they do they will probably control the House and have a substantial majority in the Senate in 2013.

But even if they don’t gain control of the government, a coalition to repeal the bill or (more likely) effectuate major changes to the legislation is not out of the question. There are twenty-three Democrats up for re-election in 2012, and twenty in 2014. Of those forty-three Senators (almost 2/3 of the total seats up), ten are from states John McCain carried, and additional eleven are from states George W. Bush carried at least once, while seven more are from states Bush came four points or less from carrying. That is a huge number of potentially vulnerable Senators up in the next two cycles; it eclipses the two Senators from McCain states up this cycle (three more are from Bush states, and an additional three are from Bush-near-miss states).

These Senators could afford to vote for the bill in 2010 partly because their elections were a long way off. They also did so because the White House could argue that the bill’s popularity would turn around, and that the White House could pull vulnerable Senators and Congressmen over the finish line. But if the Republicans have an outstanding 2010, the White House’s argument will have been tested and will have failed. There will be substantial pressure on these Senators to modify the bill. Could the Republicans put together a coalition in 2010 or 2011 to effectuate major changes? It would be a long shot, but if Obama’s popularity remains below fifty percent going into 2012, I would not think it impossible.

None of this is to say that the Republicans will succeed in repealing the health care bill. It is just to say that their hand is considerably stronger than many make it out to be. It will be up to the voters in 2010 to determine just how strong the Republicans’ hand is.

What a great thing to do. We have a 20 year old nephew who has severe Down syndrome. He has never spoken, but can function with support, feedback and behavior clues from family and friends. His Mom has often commented on his spiritual perceptions and how they parallel those of any of us: resistance, faith, rebellion, humility, confidence in God, sometimes frustration with God, issues of conscience, etc.

Just read some good articles at world net daily today. The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons became the first medical society to file to overturn health scam. Also, Dr. Benishek is holding a money bomb with the goal of 219,000. $1,000 for each vote cast in favor of that montrosity. Washington times has a good article regarding; the Supreme Court may weigh in on the health care mandate. The comments were extremely uplifting. Gives me encouragement with so many intelligent and informed readers that are able to dissect/explain the unconstitutionality of this bill. Some of these people should run for office or hold training sessions for the idiots in congress.

Judge Roger Vinson is the presiding judge in the case involving the 13 states. He was nominated by Ronald Reagan. Guess that means he’s a conservative judge.

Judge Henry E. Hudson is the presiding judge in the Virginia case. He was nominated by George W. Bush. Another conservative judge.

This, IMO is good news. There will be 3 rounds to these cases. Federal court, federal appeals court, and then SCOTUS. With conservative judges, round one of this battle could be in favor of the states and just in time for November elections.

Supreme Court likely will not hear this court before next year.

We’re not going to win this fight being on the defensive. We’re letting the Democrats control the conversation and they will quickly get ahead if we keep doing that.

We need to brand them as the Party of Hate. We have a president who wants to insult and intimidate the American people and anyone who opposes his policies. He is against free speech. He is stripping private enterprise to the bone. The liberal media panders to this and parrots his talking points.

I don’t know about you but I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I am sick and tired of reading the news and seeing hate from the Democratic party. They are bullies.

Instead of reacting to what the liberal media accuses us of we need to start hurling accusations of our own! Put THEM on the defensive. That’s when we get ahead.

What kind of president would look the American people in the eye and say “Bring it on!”? That’s not leadership. That’s the mafia.

They are taking to task businesses who are taking a hit with the HC bill. That’s intimidation.

Conservatives are going on the liberal media and defending the tea party. We don’t have to defend the tea party. People KNOW what is going on. We need to change the convservation. We need to put THEM on the defensive.

I don’t think it’s a coincedence that the government decided to bust some “Christian groups” in the middle of the woods at the exact same time the tea party is being accused of violence. The Democratic party will stoop to lows we can’t even IMAGINE to stay in power. There is NOTHING over the line in their book. They will do whatever they have to do to win.

Conservatives don’t have to stoop to their scum level and be as immoral and corrupt. We just have to be smarter.

Your President is going to be in for a very rude awakening.

There has been another case that has gone through the District Court and all 9 judges agreed. It is similar to Citizens United but concerns the PACs.

It will be interesting to see what happens when one aspect of the case is taken to the SCOTUS. Expect the provisions relating to the PACs to be struck down.

The SCOTUS is not about to surrender the right to free speech.

If the WH attempts to do anything to the Internet etc. the SCOTUS will strike it down.

You really need to read the opinions in the Citizens United case. The Stevens opinion really is garbage, but the opinions of Alito, Kennedy, Thomas, and Roberts actually show in what direction the SCOTUS might be heading.

I think this is very relevant.

It has been established for awhile that the Canadians are leaving Afghanistan; PM Harper is barely holding onto a minority government, and can not afford a vote of non confidence. Parliament has been perogued in the past year more times than I can remember. It’s crazy. So, reversing the decision to withdraw from AfPak in 2011 was a non-starter. Hill went there anyways and got rebuffed.

There was a chance that the Cdns would leave approx 600 troops behind to assist in MITT work, something my husband did in Iraq. That would have lightened the load of our US military considerably. That is something Hill could have reached for, and had it been handled well, would have gained. Instead, announcements were made clarifying in no uncertain terms that there will be no training teams remaining, military or RCMP. When I relayed this info to the Studmuffin, he snorted disgustedly “GREAT”, because he has worked well with his Cdn counterparts on the training issues, and knows their assistance would have been very helpful.

Sorry. I got excited and posted this information under the thread about Dubai. I thought I had my browser on the open thread for the day. Anyways, Tammy Bruce said on her show today that she would like to get the Hillbuzz guys on her show. (!!!) It was a quick random comment that she made.

She’s on TalkStreamLive right now, daily from 2 to 4pm Eastern time.

Yikes! That’s a lot of wars, riots, assassinations, and general mayhem throughout the centuries. You have to wonder how God puts up with us.

All those wars just prove what I have thought throughout my adult life. Every 30 to 50 years or so there are major wars breaking out – world wars or regional wars. Within that time there are general skirmishes and fights over borders, culture, and religion. That then leads to the big wars.

Perhaps we need a lot more women in politics and government, worldwide. Especially women who have had children. Most mommies know how to make the kids stop fighting and most times distract them before they start. We also know how to make them hug and make up. We’d have to cull out all the bad mommies though. There are some doozies in this violent planet we all live on.

I think war is the natural state of affairs in this fallen world. Look at nature. Animals don’t hug and kiss each other when they first meet. They’re wary. They often fight.

Peace is artificial. Peace is often bought with appeasement, compromise and a useless wish that the “crocodile will eat one last”. Of course I don’t want war. No sane person does. But I don’t believe in shrinking from it when it comes to maintaining our freedom. As GK Chesterton said, “War may not be the best means of settling differences, but it’s better than having differences settled for you”.

No, I don’t believe in peace at any price, and frankly, I think WWII could have been avoided if there wasn’t a pacifist movement in Britain led by WOMEN, who wanted to appease Hitler rather than confront him in the Sudetenland. A minor skirmish there would have sent his armies scurrying back to Germany. A too-eager desire for peace is what emboldens bullies and dictators. Look at Ogabe. All the bad guys are saber rattling right now because they (rightly) perceive he is weak.

I don’t believe for one minute that a woman can do this any better than a man can. As a matter of fact, I think that the rise of socialism in the 20th century coincides with women getting the vote. Too many women vote with their hormones and their hearts instead of with their brains. (Present company excluded, of course)

Maybe Germany, but remember that fascist Italy had territorial aims outside its borders and Japan was militarized and on the march.

You are correct to draw the parallel to percieved weakness. The Pax Americana served the world well for the last 65 years.

And as if that were not enough, he gave a speech at Columbia University in favor of Obamacare. Not very discrete nor intelligent of Monsieur le President, n’est-ce pas?

He’s a socialist. In the final analysis, Sarkozy is a socialist. Here is his stance on gun ownership:

“I would like to say one thing, in what is my conception of the Republic, security is the responsibility of the State, I am against militias, I am against the private ownership of firearms, and I’m trying to make you think about that. If you are assaulted by an armed burglar, he’ll use his weapon more effectively than you anyway so you’re risking your life. If the criminal is not armed and you are and you shoot, your life will be ruined, because killing someone over a theft is not in line with the republican values that are mine. The private ownership of firearms is dangerous. I understand your exasperation for having been burglarized two times, I understand the fear that your wife and daughter may have but the answer is in the efficiency of the police and the efficiency of the judiciary process, the answer is not in having guns at home.”

Biden thinks that redistribution is fair.

    http://tinyurl.com/ykkrote

You know, we really need to push back on this word “fair” being used.

What’s so fair about taking the income of hard-working Americans who get up at the crack of dawn and work for years?

What’s fair about stealing the fruits of someone’s labor?

What’s fair about taking money from people, many who created businesses from scratch, working out of their garages and homes?

What’s fair about punishing people who create jobs?

Socialism does destroy the middle class.

    What’s fair about that?

There needs to be more focus on how UNfair Socialism is.

Fast becoming one of my favorite quotes…

“You toil and work and earn bread, and I’ll eat it.” No matter in what shape it comes, whether from the mouth of a king who seeks to bestride the people of his own nation and live by the fruit of their labor, or from one race of men as an apology for enslaving another race, it is the same tyrannical principle.”

I remember getting one of those viral emails about a father teaching his young daughter about the unfairness of socialism.

She was yakking about how we need to have more compassion and make the wealthy less wealthy by helping the poor.

So her dad asked her to do some work around the house and he would pay her a sum they agreed on. After she was done working, he told her that he was going to give some homeless guy on the street 40% of what she earned, since she should be more “compassionate” and spread the wealth.

      That shut her up.

In keeping with HillBuzz’s request to report what is going on in our neck of the woods I’ll give a brief summary of heated topics of discussion here in a suburb of Tampa.

My community is equal parts staunch leftist, moderate and conservative. (There probably is such a varied group because of the fact that most people who live in FL are originally from elsewhere in the country.) But no matter what their group of choice everyone is talking about Obamacare; especially at my job.

I work for a small tech company. We’ve been struggling greatly in these economic times. We’ve already had cut-backs, hour reductions and lay-offs. After the announcement of Obamacare the management formally decided to throw in the towel. The company was family owned and operated, a real labor of love, and had done business in the area for over 15 years but they just can’t hold on anymore.

Some of us will be kept on as telecommuters to work from home. I’m lucky and grateful to be included in that group. But many won’t be kept as home based employees and will be let go.

The management was honest and told those being let go that they just can’t keep treading water with Obamacare set to devastate the already murky financial landscape. Those being let-go that are staunch Obama supporters are acting unconcerned. They don’t seem to think it will be easy or even doable to find a new job but they are convinced that ‘their man Obama’ will have their back. And between unemployment insurance and delayed mortgage payments maybe he does???

The moderates that I worked with that were duped into voting for Hope and Change fell out of love with Obama about 6 months ago. Obamacare seems to have solidified for them that Obama was not who he was presented to be. They are very angry. They really believed that they were voting for a compassionate moderate in Obama who would lead from a point of empathy.

One moderate that I work with is a nice woman who has very expensive health care needs. She’s quite capable of holding down a job and working with great integrity but she needs expensive medication and the occasional maintenance surgery to do so. Even though this has been a near lifetime condition for her (making it preexisting) she was still able to get insurance through the company. She pays more then most people but she uses more then most people. And she likes her insurance. Yesterday she was crying her at desk. She’s scared that Obamacare will cause her to loose her insurance, ration her care or will cause a rate hike so high she can’t pay for it.

I was at a privately owned franchise of a big name restaurant today paying for some take out. The man ringing up my order is the owner who out of the blue starts telling me that he’s loosing his house, his wife has been out of work for nearly two years, and his eldest has had to quit college as they can’t pay for tuition any longer. He has a younger teenager who now doesn’t seem to have a future as college is out of the question and said teenager is now competing with much older more qualified adults for part-time jobs. This man was scared, near tears, and was telling a virtual stranger that Obamacare is going to destroy his business as he can’t afford to comply with the mandates and that will mean the end to his dream and the only chance his family had left.

Many people have actually come up to me at work and asked me how to register to vote. Yes, I work with a group of grown adults who have never voted once in their entire adult lives. But this is a good sign. They’re so angry with Obama they intend to vote for the first time ever.

On the flip side I know many moderates who are so beaten down they’ve given up. They’re convinced that Obamacare is going to bankrupt them due to the VAT, insurance rate hikes, and personal income tax hikes. These moderates are completely convinced that the Republicans will do nothing to stop it or repeal it. And the wishy-washy statements from Cornyn and endorsements of Romney haven’t helped their moods. These people won’t someone to fight for them and to get the base motivated. If they don’t have that, then come election time, I’m convinced they’ll stay home feeling that all is lost and that the Republicans aren’t fighters.

    ~G

Thanks for the update. Just got back from Walmart. There was a long line up at the cashier. We were talking amongst ourselves VERY LOUDLY about what a disaster O and O-care is, and what is in the bill, and how people are delusional if they think it’s going to be “free”, and that with the rationing and access restrictions, lots of folks are going to find it harder to access health care, not easier. We could tell everyone in line was listening, our cashier wouldn’t make eye contact. (He was black). One black guy was passing by, stopped, listened and tried to give me a dirty look. I just looked him right back and smiled and shrugged my shoulders in a “what can I say, it’s true” gesture.

Taking Teh Won’s advice. I’m getting out there, and getting in their faces. lol. (Well, not really. Just talking really loudly so it’s impossible not to eavesdrop ;) )

They used to defend him. Not any more. They’re silent and they look embarassed. We need to speak up and keep up the pressure. I hope that stops them from voting for him again in 2012.

I’m one of those who feel beaten down. I’m a regular poster at Michelle Malkin’s blog and have also aired my despair there. I’m a military spouse who is unemployed, had planned to have a baby in the next year, and buy my first home. My husband doesn’t want to discuss politics because we often get into fights about it.

There are people in my husband’s unit who are deeply, deeply unhappy with Obeyme. One contractor was crying at the office the day after the health care nightmare was passed. Contrast that with the reaction of a Reserve member of my husband’s unit who had no clue what was going on. My question to my husband after he told me this was: how could he have no idea what’s going on?

I’m feeling very low right now. I feel like my future, that of my husband, and my family is pretty bleak. We’d been planning on trying for a baby before this whole health care mess imperiled this country and now I feel like maybe it’s just too late for me to be a mother (I’m 34 years old). My husband and I currently rent a house and really don’t think it in our best interests to own (plus, we have no idea where we’ll be in 2 years).

Think about all the military families out there who’ve been making plans for their futures and serving this country and the climate that they live under every day. It’s doubly hard. Especially when you’re serving under a CinC with no integrity.

G, Thank you for sharing. The sentiment in South FL is very much the same as you describe. There is a lot of nervousness in the hearts and minds of “average, everyday, scraping by, paycheck to paycheck, hard working, people”. I think that most I talk to agree that we have yet to see the “worst” of this economic time.

However, many are not engaged with what is actually going on in our political world. Until the effects of these policies hit them in the back of the head like a 2×4, I doubt that they will recognize. Thanks again.

Only Palin is delivering this message and only she instills a sense of confidence with her “Stand tall America” comment. Yet, she gets pilloried by people like Dennis Miller for her “reload” comment. Since when did he become so literal? It is only a matter of time before candidates have to start doing “money balloons” or “money clouds” instead of “money bombs.”

There should be a concerted effort among Americans to voicbly support the CEOs who have been “summoned” to Capitol Hill on April 21. Let them know that they have our support and they should not allow themselves to be bullied by our “elected officials” and encourage each and every one of them to present the absolute facts about how much damage the healthcare bill is doing to their companies, the adverse effects to the already fragile economy and the impact on jobs and retirement. They should be encouraged to stand strong because we have their backs. And help them to reinforce to our Democratic thugocracy that we don’t socialism in this country and we will not simply roll over because they told us to. Capitalism rocks!!!

Companies are required by LAW to redo their company books after there has been a change in the law. They have to adjust their benefits and pensions, etc. to reflect the law. So for Waxman to come out and say it was “curious” for them to be doing this just shows what a mafia creep he is. He knows they have to do this. They are intimidating private business. It’s like the KGB has taken over our government. How DARE they.

I have NO DOUBT in my mind that Obama is systematically trying to destroy this country. He is evil and he needs to be thrown out of office. And any Democrat who goes along with this Chicago mafia should be thrown out of office, too. It is a disgrace to this country. We have America haters in our government. Al Gore highjacked our spy satellites when Clinton took office. How do I know this? My husband worked for Ford Aerospace which turned into Loral Aerospace and Dan Quayle was in charge of the NASA at the time. It was his project. When Gore took over he cut the program from the Dept of Defense and gave it to NOAA. We were angry then but had no idea he was about to start his climate FRAUD with our defense department satellites. This was in the mid 90s.

Teh Won has taken over with some BS joint news appearance with Sarkozy. Blah, blah, blah.

I find it interesting these “breaking alerts” are always timed to interfere with Beck’s show, esp. when is going to explain the history of Marxism in this country.

Got Skousen’s book, the 5000 Year Leap in the mail today. Everyone is talking about it, so decided I should it read it to so I can join in the discussion.

(Of course, I did skip a lot of class those years, so it’s possible I just missed it…)

And, yes, as a regular Beck watcher, I have yelled with frustration many a time when his show was interrupted with some breaking White House news. Thank heaven there’s a repeat.

New rules in the house here. We have been receiving fundraising phone calls in the evening from the colleges that my kids went to. One is a big ten school, and the other is a small liberal arts college. Emphasize the word liberal. Our new policy is to answer the phone and politely explain to the college age person that due to Obama’s economic policies we are no longer able to give a contribution to the school. We might suggest that the school take on massive debt to fund their programs. Or, contact all the Obama supporters, because they will have no problem giving up their “wealth”. Econ 101.

I refuse to give to my undergrad and grad schools. Never. One is a liberal arts college and the other a state school and they’re both badly managed. I’ve made it a rule to never give to people who can’t seem to get themselves off the federal teat.

I advise all people to lock all these private and public universities/colleges out economically. It is my firm belief that these schools jack up their tuition no matter what… while they’re getting rich benefectors to pick up the tab that will also allow them to give to Dems over the years. Believe me… this is a game that universities and colleges are very adept at.

The university/college world has run unchecked for YEARS. I cannot for the life of me understand why people give to them AT ALL. They just go on to mishandle and mismanage the money anyway.

    From C4P, some interesting news:

“The campaign by the Democrat Party and liberals to paint Republicans and conservatives as extremists has failed miserably as the most recent Gallup/USA Today poll finds that “when asked about incidents of vandalism and threats that followed the bill’s passage, Americans are more inclined to blame Democratic political tactics than critics’ harsh rhetoric.” I give the credit to Palin, Cantor, and other Republicans and conservatives that didn’t run away from this issue as the Democrat Party clearly overplayed its hand.

Also, Barack Obama’s disapproval rating hit 50% for the first time in the USA Today/Gallup poll. Remember that this poll is of adults, not even registered or likely voters.”

My take home lesson: fight back against charges of racism or whatever else. What do you guys think?

I’m of European mutt descent as far as I know, but chances are there is some minority blood in there somewhere. After all, if our President — who is half white — can call himself black, then why can’t I? What are they going to do, demand a DNA sample?

Or maybe I’ll just start feigning disbelief that our president is black — “Really? I saw pictures of him with his mother and grandparents. I thought they were white.”

Today I had the opportunity to ask a former Dem mayor what he thought about Obamacare. He said he did not like it and thought it would be bad for the country. He said that while there are alot of people who don’t have insurance, there are some people who chose to sit on their butts and be lazy and he did not see why those who worked should have to pay for those who refused to work. This former Mayor said that we are losing our middle class. He also said that he did not like what his Representative, John Larson did, by focusing on a city not within his district and ignoring a city in his district. I found this to be an encouraging sign because he was not shy about voicing his opinion.

But he took an oath to uphold the constitution, so he has to abide by that. His oath to the constitution trumps any loyalty to a person.

We sent our sons to a school in the Shenandoah Valley near I-81, just south of I-66. It was a small town. They loved it.
Winchester is the “big” town for the Valley. Big VA hospital, Valley Health is a level II hosp, non profit, highly rated. Winchester has a very good public HS that comes highly rated, John Handley, but two physicians who live in the Handley district sent their boys to the same private school with our boys, so have no first hand reports on Handley.

Personally, I don’t like the vibe in Winchester itself, but there are many cute towns in and around Winchester.

As far as VA vs MD, in almost all cases, VA has lower taxes and levies than MD.

      Good luck with your relocation!

    ALERT!!! ALERT!!! ALERT!!!

Just before shutting down my computer at the end of the day today, I clicked on foxnews.com, as is my usual and customary practice. I like to see what’s happened before I go home. Tonight I got the red hand “ACCESS DENIED” message. I quickly checked and CNN News was fine. I had two others try to bring up FNC and they were blocked also.

This may be an inadvertent mistake by some programmer, or some kind of glitch. I hope. Otherwise, Houston, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

This is a state government system/computer. If they shut down all news sites, no problem – although they have been allowed so far as a matter of policy. Censorship is a totally different matter and if that is what is happening – fellow Buzzers, I will be calling on you to join me in a major battle for the Resistance!!!

Watch HB tomorrow morning for an update.

HB asked us to report on our areas, and I am reporting that in Virginia we are starting to see anti-Obama bumber stickers. Today we saw:
If you think Healthcare is expensive now, just wait until it is FREE.
Second one had the Obamass logo and under it ran, “Got birth certificate?”.
Also saw LOL with the O being the One’s logo.
Are bumper stickers showing up elsewhere as well?
There is also a HUGE billboard in downtown Richmond with Obama as the Joker. The billboard is directly across the street from a major parking garage for State government, so there is no way employees cannot see it going and coming from work.
I swear I almost had a wreck when I saw it- love it!

I know that several of you have mentioned the story about the fallen Marines family who has to pay the court costs for the Westboro Church. Apparently, Bill O’Reilly also heard about it and has paid the costs for the family. He may be annoying at times, but he just showed that he is a good man. Way to go Bill.

Apologies for having to repsond to my own post, but this was what O’Reilly said about the situation:

“That is an outrage. I will pay Mr. Snyder’s obligation. I am not going to let this injustice stand. It’s obvious they were disturbing the peace by disrupting the funeral. They should have been arrested, but our system is so screwed up, so screwed up, that loons are allowed to run wild. Snyder is fighting the good fight, and he is taking his case to the Supreme Court as he should. We are behind him 100 percent.”

However, when the honor thing is triggered, he can stand up and do the right thing, and in this case, I applaud him for it.

LOL. All kidding aside, Costa Rica does have a very good medical system. Most of their docs are Cdn-Brit-US trained and speak very good English.

My cousin, who is paralyzed (motorcycle accident) moved there fulltime. He loves it, and says he gets better medical care there than in Canada. Cheaper too.

I think Rush is actually scoping out new places to LIVE, and I think it’s probably Australia or NZ, because it involved a 15 hour flight.
It’s probably because the threats on his life have become too much, in light of the fact that he’s getting married in July.

No one said anything when Banks originated loans to students. It was corporate welfare Why should anyone make any profits on students borrowing money that is guaranteed by the federal government?

The banks have been taken out of the equation. According to the latest data, for every $100 lent by the banks, the cost to the government is about $13.81 in subsidies and defaults; the same amount lent directly by the government costs $3.85.

      Yeah for everybody.

      1. There is going to be war in the Middle East, so we need to start providing our own.

      2. He’s throwing a bone at his opponents.

      3. He’s borrowed and spent all our money and now needs to find ways to get more.

You’ll all get a kick out of this one…I’m very active on an actor friend’s blog(he makes Obama look like Eisenhower). They were whining about the Patriot Act, and I reminded them that the Senate vote of it was 98-2(one no vote, one not there), and how the Dems loved it at the time. One was Carly Fiorino (she was active during John McCain’s run for pres. in 2008) and a man, both are republicans and there is a third person who did not attend the event. The consensus was that Barbara Boxer has been in the senate for 28 years and it is definitely her time to go! They feel momentum and for the first time in years this will be an actual race.
