In case some of you need a reminder of why there is a spam filter on this site, here’s a screen grab of some of the garbage we have to sift through every day, all day. We cleaned the spam queue late last night, around 4am…and then this is what was caught in there this morning when we woke up. Hundreds and hundreds of comments come in every day, with a lot of them from these Asian spambots. Most of this is just gibberish, but there are some of these comments that take random words from posts and recombine them in strange ways so that we actually have to take the time to read through part of the spam to tell it’s junk and not someone with a poor grasp of English trying to make a convoluted point.
Do you see why Avatars are such a big help in cutting down the time to take these things out of moderation? Do you notice that the spam doesn’t use Avatars? Therefore, going to www.Gravatar.com and getting yourself an Avatar (they are free!) will help not only keep you out of our spam purgatory, but out of other sites’ spam filters too.

This time around, the formation of a new cabinet here seems interminable; previous possibilities came to naught, and now what is being discusses is a coalition of the Christian Democrats (CDA), the classical liberals (VVD), and Wilders’ party (PVV), with the later either represented in the cabinet or implicitly supporting the other two with its votes in the parliament.
If this option too doesn’t work out, it’s something of a question what will be attempted next.
On the Australian front things do seem to be turning to mushroom fodder for the back-stabbing PM… I am enjoying watching her go down in flames….

You surprise me, Aussie. On our side of the Ditch the news is that everything seems to be going her way. A pleasant surprise though – we liked Kevin Rudd (I know, you didn’t) and we certainly didn’t like the way Rudd was removed, so we’re hoping Labor loses.

He was totally incompetent. He could do the talking like Øbama but he stuffed up everything.

Many Republicans thought Obama would be easier to beat in 2008 than Mrs. Clinton. So they hoped for Obama over Mrs. Clinton–to their peril. If Mrs. Clinton had been the nominee, she likely would have beaten McCain. However, we wouldn’t have a communist in charge of America.
To my point: The Lefties may think they want Palin because she’d be easier to beat. But the Lefties would be wrong, like they are about so many things.

What is on my mind right now is all the criticism of the costs associated with Chelsea Clinton’s wedding.
This is wrong and petty.
I’ve even heard commentators on Fox (!) say things like “Just think of what could be done with this money!” Folks, this is horseshit.
No matter what one thinks of the Clintons, they have one child. The parents have earned the money on the table and they chosen to spend it on their daughter’s wedding.
I don’t care if it costs 1 Billion dollars.
This is their gig, their family, and the envy exhibited by the pundits is not cool.
It is the province of the far left libs to engage in destructive class envy.
It should not be ours; we are better than this.
I do not care how much the Clintons spend on their daughter’s wedding. It is none of my business. It is nobody’s business but the Clintons’ business.
However, the Democrat Party, of which the Clintons are part, routinely demonize Republicans and conservatives for the way they spend their money. Democrats insist that the wealthy (always defined in a way favorable to Democrats) need to pay more money in taxes to help the poor. The guilt routine is ALWAYS part of the Democrat playbook.
So, given what I’ve said, I don’t have too much sympathy for the Clintons on this count. They’re part of an organization that routinely engages in class warfare. When a tiny bit of that gets turned on them, I am confident that they are man and woman enough to deal with it. Frankly, I don’t think they care. They will do what they want to do.
Too bad everyone else cannot employ that attitude without the guilt trips from the Left.
I’d much rather they talk about the Obamas and their endless vacations and Warf and her $600 earrings. Chelsea can spend whatever amount she wants on her wedding.
Remember too, though, that that information is being given to the press. They don’t have to tell anybody.

You are correct, Carmello. They also spent the Christmas holiday at Camp David, so the White House staff could be with their families. They were considerate that way.
I agree. I couldn’t care less how the Clintons choose to spend their money. It is the contrast between what they say and what they do that people are pointing out.
Same thing with Kerry and his yacht. Tax avoidance is entirely legal, I engage in it and I encourage others to do so as well. But Kerry is one of the “tax the rich” crowd, so his hypocrisy deserves to be criticized.
There was a piece in a New York paper last week questioning whether the Steinbrenner family should voluntarily relinquish some of the $500 million “tax windfall” they received b/c George had the good sense to die before the estate tax was revived. Are the same people raising similar questions about the Kerrys and the Clintons?

I have never been a big fan of the Clinton’s. That being said I have always felt sorry for Chelsea. I don’t care what a father does ( ex. the Monica scandal) a child shouldn’t be subjected to it and hear all about it. If she wants a fairy tale wedding and her parents can afford to give it to her and are willing to do so then it really doesn’t effect me and I wish her well.

This is my same line of thought with what CEOs make or whatever. As long as they aren’t breaking the law to make that money or taking it from the public, then who cares? What is it to me how much money someone else has, if they got it lawfully?
To me, criticizing the spending on this wedding based on what “good” could be done is insane. If they earned it and they want to spend it, regardless of how ridiculous I might think it is to spend that much on a wedding, it is their prerogative to do so.
Well, in spending all of that money they are helping with jobs for people who are furnishing the things that the Clintons are paying for. The jealous people don’t seem to think of that angle.
Yes. It is what Reagan referred to as trickle-down/supply side economics. We get it. It is not jealousy. It is intellectual honesty and integrity — and the Clintons’ and the Kerrys’ lack of it — that spurs these comments.
I call that the Judas Iscariot syndrome… there is an answer in the Scripture when such comments are made… and the people making those kind of comments are being stupid.

If I am reading this right, this is to fill the 6-week period “lame duck” session. The people of Illinois – and, I believe 4 or 5 other states – will be doing the same thing.
There will be one ballot for the “special” elections, which will fill those seats that currently have appointed members in them; the winners of those elections will take their seats immediately following that election.
These positions will only be for the unexpired duration of the appointees’ terms – in the case of a House member it will only be for 6 weeks; for Senators, it may be longer. That’s why it is SO important that as many of these seats go to Republicans.
There will be another ballot ON THE SAME DAY for the “regular” elections, which will be for a full term. The winners of these races will not take office until January, 2011.
I am reading the book “People of the Lie” by M. Scott Peck. He is a psychoanalyst and part of what he says is that people who have the most psychological problems are the ones least likely to seek help because their malignant narcissism prevents them from admitting that they have a problem, Because if they did admit that they have a problem, they would have to address it somehow. So they project all their problems to someone or something external to them. All this sounds to me like what is wrong with the Oppressive Left.
That is an enthralling book. I read it several years back. His dissecting of evil is thought provoking.

I visited a second Walgreen’s here in Chicago and they are also now self-service. That means people are losing their jobs to make way for self-service machines. You don’t have to pay benefits to machines. Multiply that by how many stores Walgreen’s has in the country and you have serious unemployment issues. I believe Obamacare will definitely impact businesses and then more people will be added to the ranks of the unemployed (benefits were again extended to November). If other companies see that self-service works for Walgreen’s, they may follow suit and fire employees too.

I wish I could say I havent been Buzzing because of some fantabulous, awesome vacay (like the Familia Barky)…but instead have been tending to my husband’s health.
He had a major heart attack (LAD was the artery affected; stent installed) on July 15. An angel had to have watching over us that morning, or he would be gone now.
Six days in CICU; nine prescriptions later; paramedics having to come to the house AFTER I brought him home (horrific reaction to the cocktail of meds he is taking). And don’t let anyone tell you our health care system is ‘broken’ I have witnessed it first hand the last two weeks…no one stopped the triage in the ER to ask ‘can you meet his co-pays?’ They saved his life; removed a 95% blockage from a 53 year old diabetic because that is WHAT THEY DO.
Anyways, I tried to keep up as best I could…hard NOT to see CNN in hospital waiting areas. Its like an episode of the Twilight Zone…all of it. Sherrod; the Gulf (where did the oil go?); everything is now ‘RAAACIST’…the expiration of the Bush Tax Cuts (which will destroy what is left of the economy.)

The very best of luck to you both!!! I know exactly what you are going through, having had much the same experience five years ago with my husband. He made it , thanks to our “broken” health care system. You will return to some sort of normal–just take it one day at a time.

Mary – Good luck and best wishes to you and your husband. I know exactly what you’re going thru. My husband, a diabetic, as well, has had to have 6 stents (2 different surgeries) in his heart. Diabetes is a terrible disease. He is now in great shape because it woke him up and he’s diligent with his diet and exercise program. He is a great believer in exercise and thinks that’s what is keeping him stable now. (I do, too!) Our doctors and hospitals were wonderful – thank God for that. Hang in there – better days are ahead for you!

It’s been awhile since signs against Zero were mentioned here, but that campaign continues. There is a new one on the interstate between Milwaukee and Madison. It is a repeat of another one. It is stark black letters on a white background asking How’s that Hope and Change working out for you? Paid for by a private citizen. Any way we can keep the pressure on is good in my book.
We just went to visit our daughter who lives in a Southern state. We spent some time with friends of hers who own some land in Canada. There are some “good ol’ boys” from the south. They said when they drove through Chicago on their way up north they saw a large spray painted sign right at a toll booth that said “F*** Øbama”. They stopped so they could take a picture and I guess several commuters too exception to that! But the said “Ain’t no way we wuz gonna let that photo op get by us! We wuz right there in Chicago and here’s this huge F*** Øbama sign.”

Have a good friend and fellow horseman who is in ICU, he was admitted yesterday. He has spent the last 6 months in the hospital due to pneumonia. (He has Aides) He was out for two weeks before this last relapse and I fear he is too weak to make it this time.

I have met and questioned Mr Paladino–I dont believe he is what he presents to voters. Check FEC website on his many donations to Schumer, Gore, Kerry, many Democrats -one or 2 republicans, yet supposedly trying to get the Republican nomination in a primary against Lazio. He may be against the mosque and have good intentions, but as a New Yorker and a Republican I don’t trust him. I like him as a person and admire his accomplishments, but he is a politician.
He’ll have my vote if only for that reason — and to stop the Cuomos from becoming a New York fixture.
Although I appreciate the sentiment, I think it is horrendous to use eminent domain to do it. The fault is with those who sold the property to the mosque, those who zoned and permitted it to be built.

I am a bit depressed. We have had Verizon forever and I had the same email for ten years (perhaps) and we were “sold” to Frontier Communications.. Everything was “supposed” to transition smoothly with all information transferring from one company to another..but…in this transition someone took it upon themselves to “suspend” my email account and now it no longer exists…everything just gone…nothing they can do so they say..I am beyond pizzed about this…everything I had..gone.

. Whilst the campaign has been boring, the leaks have been anything but boring.
The backstabbing watermelon Julia-the-Red Gillard is taking lots of heat over her hypocrisy regarding the issue of paid parental leave for new mums and with regard to an increase for pensions. In cabinet she opposed both. What is worse she stated in Cabinet (this was leaked) that since most pensioners vote for the Liberals she thought they should not get an increase… oh yeah… she knows nothing about Grey power…. oh baby that’s the way to pick up the grey vote… not!!
What the Liberal Party should be doing is attacking Gillard over the proposed Carbon tax and setting up of carbon exchange. Since that will cause everything to skyrocket. I hope that they will produce the necessary attack ads in the near future.
Gillard is really smarmy. She is a member of the Australian Emily’s List. She is one of the Oppressives who claim to be women progressives… but we all know that they want to enslave the people…. Gillard wanted power and she was willing to stab KRUDD in the back just to get that power. Yet she was a part of the decision making process.
One of her more stupid ideas on how to waste taxpayer money is proposing a cash for clunkers program. She must think that the idea is popular….
