Tuesday Open Thread: April 20th, 2010

Posted on April 20, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your minds this Tuesday?

What are people talking about in your part of the country?

*******************************************************

In case you missed it, here’s Part One of our report on Sarah Palin’s visit to Washington, IL this past weekend.

If any of you post over at Sarah Palin supporting boards, and think they would enjoy a detailed first hand account of meeting her in person for the first time, we’d appreciate you submitting the post for their own links.  Our intention was to try our best to capture what Palin, and her husband Todd, are really like in person and show supporters that the faith and trust they have in them are definitely not misplaced.  The Palins are the real deal, and if they and their support team are this nice to us — gay Hillary Dems in Boystown — then everything vile the Left says about them is definitely far off the mark.

********************************************************

Today, we’re working on our analysis of the excellent speech Sarah Palin delivered at the Five Points, Washington event in central Illinois this weekend.  We believe this speech will be remembered years from now as one of the first speeches of her presidential campaign, as we detect many points in the speech that seem perfect in forming her campaign platforms and also a larger, driving force behind a Palin White House bid.

The speech was lengthy, with many great points, so maybe we’ll get the analysis done today, if life permits, and maybe we’ll get it done tomorrow.  We do everything as fast as we can, but we’re not a staff of hundreds.

This is a great opportunity, actually, to address something that bothers us about many of you out there — those of you who send us hatemail because we don’t get to something quickly enough for you, or who seem to think we are CNN or the New York Times.

You realize we have to work for a living, right? And that not all of us are lucky enough to have steady 9-5, M-F jobs.  Some of us work two or three jobs, and pick up as many bartending and catering shifts as possible, just to make rent and have enough to afford road trips to political events like the Palin speech in central Illinois.  It might not seem expensive to some out there, but for us to rent a car to head down there for a day, pay for gas, and give up a shift or two working an event for a day, it’s a pretty big deal.  We do it because not only is politics a passion for us, but because we genuinely enjoy meeting so many great people on these adventures, knowing we have an opportunity to head back here, write it all up, and share the experience with thousands of others out there that didn’t have the chance to do whatever it is we did.

But, most days we run on four, maybe five, hours of sleep.  We might work double shifts one day, and not have more than an hour or two here or there to write for this site. Some posts are really easy to make and flow naturally, like a riff on something in the news, or a quick write-up of something odd or interesting we noticed that day.

Other things, like a full-scale adventure such as Saturday, are things we’d like to take time with, so we can review our notes from the day and really capture a moment in time that meant something to us.  We had one of the best times ever going to meet Sarah and Todd Palin, and it was something that deserved much more than just a throwaway comment or a quick Cliff’s Notes report.  We would have actually liked to take more time than we did with yesterday’s piece on the experience, because there’s so much more we saw, experienced, and learned on Saturday.  It’s why we didn’t even try to cram in the analysis of Palin’s speech into that first report, because there is just too much great material to jam together without giving it its full due.

So, we’re very concerned by posters such as Nervygirl — to single out the nastiest remarks we received — who attack us for not getting something up fast enough for you.

It’s a very strange situation for us doing this.  We’re attacked nonstop by the Left for not bowing at the feet of Obama, which we have come to accept as just another part of life, like the sun coming up each day.  If it’s Tuesday, it must mean more death threats, more lunatics wishing we’d all get AIDS and die, and more diatribes from the unhinged telling us how racist we are for not spending every waking hour declaring Dr. Utopia to be the greatest president in the history of the universe.

We can’t lie and say these nuts don’t get to us.  You try reading — in stunning detail — how much someone wants your immune system to collapse, for cancer to ravage your body, and for you to end up in a hospice, withered down to nothing, with tubes sticking out of orifice, dying of one of the worst diseases we know of…try imagining what it’s like to get emails like this, on a daily basis, from people who don’t like that we voice our political opinions and exercise our free speech on a rolling basis.

You can’t just ignore this garbage — at least we can’t.  As much as we wish we could dismiss it away, it does get to us.  We don’t let it ruin our day.  We never let it stop us.  But, it does get to us, and it is always in the background of our lives…this reminder of how utterly and completely insane and filled with hate the Left truly is.

But, we do have to say that as much as we can put these attacks into the background, what does really frustrate and upset us are the people like Nervygirl who pretend to be supporters and regular readers, but who troll in posts waiting for some strange way to attack us.  It’s unsettling, because it’s like living in a house with someone who suddenly reveals herself to be a serial killer.  It’s just so out of the blue, random, and crazy we don’t know how to process that.

Let’s get this straight Nervygirl, and others like her:  we spend the entire day on Saturday driving seven hours to and from an hours-long event…which was not only physically exhausting for guys who aren’t used to being on the road, or driving in cars, period, for any length of time but was also thought-provoking and chock full of interesting experiences…and because we don’t have a full, detailed, readable report ready and posted the very next day, it’s cause to post nastiness about us on our site, and send us evil hatemail demanding we work faster?

People, if you are doing things like Nervygirl, things like this, then you need to consult a mental health professional, as there is just no excuse for behavior like this.  It’s insane.  And, honestly, you  need to stop reading us if you are so wrapped up in things we do that you send us hatemail because it took us until Monday to write a report on something.

That’s sick.

And it’s frightening.

We work really hard every day just to stay alive here in Chicago and keep our heads above water.  After that, we work really hard writing about politics because we think, in a very small way, we are having an impact on elections and hopefully spurring others to get involved and take back this country from lunatics.  At times, it is mentally and physically exhausting running almost 24/7 between real life and the Internet.  Some of you don’t seem to understand that it takes 10x as long to write content as it does to read it.  You also don’t realize that all the magazines, newspapers, and professional sites out there have dozens, if not hundreds, of people working on the material you see up and running licketysplit.

We’re a couple of guys in Boystown, doing the best we can, who don’t think it’s fair to be attacked for not moving fast enough for some jerks out there.

It’s rare for us to break the fourth wall and get into this garbage, but we’re just so disgusted by Nervygirl’s attacks that we felt the need to address this — and to give you a peek into the stressful, frustrating, and hard to handle side of taking on what we have taken on.  It’s fun having these adventures.  It’s remarkable so many people want to read about them.

But, it’s creepy getting the riot act from the Nervygirls out there for not moving fast enough, when we’re operating beyond normal human capacity as it is.  More than one of us really probably should have been hospitalized for food poisoning at Easter…and the reason only two of us were able to head down to see Sarah is because another two are STILL too weak from that food poisoning to make long trips like that.  If this speech had been a week earlier, we would have had to miss it, as none of us would have been up for the ride.

The longer we do this, the more we’re attacked from new and bizarre angles, and at the end of the day, the tougher we all become — but this was a new and surreal attack that we just don’t know how to address.

The logic involved here is just so crazy too:  you claim to love our writing so much that you now hate us for not writing faster, and to get us to write faster you say nasty things to and about us so that we don’t feel especially inspired to write anything because we’ve been hit with so much of your hate.

Please explain this to us if you are one of the Nervygirls out there.

Hillbuzz, you write beautifully. You guys have such a gift & always write fantastic posts.I think we all envy that not only going to see Sarah in person you actually had an oppertunity to speak to her & Todd. Knowing that you spoke with her we all wanted your report right away. I’m sure everyone was so happy for you being in the company of a wonderful lady who will be our next president,no doubt! I can admit that I was also anxious hearing what transpired. I think the excitement that Sarah brings has generated an emotion of busting a gut needing the fix of getting your info immediately. Yes, it seemed like days, but in a good way. Maybe you also found that your meeting & speaking with Sarah & Todd that this might be the start of one of your most important posts you’ve written. Just like when Sarah goes on Fox the ratings are beyond belief. So maybe this experience was new to you & to us! You hit the right cord. Sarah is the real deal. She has integrity, smart, warm & truly a down to earth person. She has raw political talent & there’s no politician that has her qualities. I’d love to meet her as well. You certainly can be proud of the post you created about your trip to the Sarah event. We look forward to reading part 2. So you know in a post on c4p mentioned you in your post regarding the media, that Sarah got them pegged. I’m sure you’ll get great compliments on a story you wrote from the heart. G-d bless you guys! Maybe post your pic you took with Sarah & what ever you can show to create a real visual experience. Till part 2, have a great night you guys! Thank you for being upfront & honest. Great job.

I confess that I was anxiously checking your site yesterday for a detailed write up of your experience at Sarah’s speech. But I also realized that if you hadn’t posted anything yet you were working hard to tell us about your experience in the thoughtful, well laid out writing that we’ve come to expect.

I’m so sorry that you’ve gotten grief about this.

I”m looking forward to hearing your story. Take your time, guys. It will be well worth the wait, for me and for a majority of your readers.

Boyz, although I was anxious to get your report, I figured you were either working hard to giive your readers a great story or you were working at the various jobs that y’all do to keep the bills paid. I will never understand wishing ill on another human being, and am sorry that you got that from someone who is a regular here.

    General Note:

To anyone who emails the HillBuzz Boyz — or anyone else, for that matter — wishing them death from AIDS or what have you:

    You have a problem.

I don’t like Obama one bit. I really, *really* don’t like him. I believe he’s hurting our country. But I *never* wish him physical harm or illness — that’s nuts.

So here’s a rule of thumb: unless the person is Osama bin Laden, Idi Amin, or someone else whose death would mean freedom and well-being for others, you shouldn’t wish them harm or illness.

If you do, you actually hurt yourself. Make no mistake, that kind of hatred boiling in your gut is pure poison.

So criticize all you want, rudely if you must (though if you have confidence in your positions you won’t feel the need to be rude) — but don’t tell people you hope they die or get sick, because it’s bad all-around.

    Capiche?

I LOVE you guys! Sorry I was trying to rush you, but I knew your story would be awesome and I couldn’t wait! I loved all your details and the way it was written…If I lived in Chicago I would volunteer to make coffee runs for you (or something).

The public is a terrible taskmaster.

On the one hand – the great unwashed will give you warm fuzzies if they think that you are one of them, but if you do not give them what they want – when they want it, they will attempt to move you by trying to light a fire under your butt – however, if that doesn’t make you jump, they will burn you at the stake and move on to the next group who will tell them what they want to hear.

    Bottomline: Welcome to the jungle.

I’m so sorry for the awful threats you’ve received…know that some of us out here are PRAYING for you all, and well…greater is He that is in us, than he that is in the world.
I think part of the reason we get “antsy”(not rude, just hoping to hear) is that story you told about the gang attacks. Now, if you don’t post every day…that’s where our mind goes.
Take your time, I can’t wait to hear every last detail, so we can live vicariously.

    • YTZ4Me says:

That’s exactly how I feel. Quietly discomforted if I don’t see a new post up, or even if just the “Doors Open, Open Thread of the Day” up early in the day. I just hope that they are all okay, and that nothing bad has happened.

I don’t e-mail them b/c I assume they are busy trying to juggle two, three, four balls at once. But it doesn’t mean I don’t care about them.

I can completely sympathize with the debilitating effects of snark attacks that they must receive routinely. Sure, it doesn’t stop you from pressing forward and keeping going, and sure, it makes you stronger (I once had a boss who told me when you get attacked like that, it means you’ve hit the target … true, but it didn’t reduce the feelings of hurt and disbelief that such attacks engender) but at the end of the day, it still is psychically exhausting.

Looking forward to your in-depth analysis on Palin’s speech when you have had time to put it all together.

Glad to hear you Boyz are still all a-okay. Stay safe out there.

      Hugs to ya.

There’s a lot of wild information on there. I don’t think “grain” or even “block” of salt touches upon the skepticism you should approach that site with. It may be 100% true or it may be 0% true.

When I see stuff that far out there, I automatically shut down, but that’s just me.

Yes, but one of the things I like about some of the “out-there” blogs is that they force me to think outside the box and consider an angle that I didn’t even think possible.

There’s a couple of “conspiracy blogs” I frequent b/c they are highly entertaining — much like some people enjoy going to horror flicks. This amuses the Studmuffin greatly; however, if you want to know the current buzz in the fringe-world, I’m your go-to girl.

And LC has been right a few too many times.

In his typical Obama-style, he handled his hecklers in a purely UN-presidential fashion. If he was truly an oratorical genius, he would have persuaded his hecklers, but instead he told them to shut up and sit down.

I, too, was eager to hear your report, but I refrained from commenting and was astonished by the remarks I read from others. When I see these things, I’m tempted to jump to your defense, but I figure you can handle yourselves and it is not my place to police your visitors. Sometimes, though, I can’t help myself.

You Boyz keep doing what you’re doing at your own pace. I know it is painful to get kicked — especially when you least expect it — but those wounds will turn to scars and the more scar tissue you have, the less painful the next kick will be.

    boyz,

I’m glad you busted through the “fourth wall,” as you call it. I also read a few comments around here that were eyebrow raising, I must say. In fact, I hope you spit out MORE names of the offenders, not less. If we know who they are, we can deal with them here, on your blog, within the Hillbuzz community.

    MEMO to asshats:

This is not a paid site. You are not a subscriber, entitled to your fair share of content. Even if you have contributed, it was voluntary; no one sent you a bill. People like me contribute when we can (lots of us aren’t working) but that is more a vote of confidence, not a “right.”

For those who do not know first hand, let me tell you that Chicago is an exceedingly expensive place to live. My sweetie lives there, so I am there at least twice a year. They tax everything that moves, and quite a few things that don’t. I’ve never seen a place run like this and quite honestly, I’m impressed with how our boyz manage it. My sweetie tells me stories about costs of parking, utilities, rent, etc. that make my hair wanna fall out.

Their attention to this blog represents an amount of time that they could spend trying to pick up and work the part-time gigs that everyone in that town is scrambling to get. As for me, I’m happy just when they post the day’s Open Thread. That way we know the O-bots and the gangs haven’t gotten to them.

    So qwityerbitching.

    Or go over to HuffPo.

    *rant off*

Agreed. Like many people, we have a lot of expenses in our household — but, I enjoy reading what Hillboyz and other local bloggers have to say. One of my favorite local bloggers just lost his job and is trying to get his own business up and running while keeping us all informed on what’s going on in our local political scene.

I don’t consider myself a “contributor” b/c my tips are small, but they can add up if everyone who reads here decides to throw “something” in the hat.

Once a month I try and throw some $$ in the tip jar for one of my fav bloggers and also send a small contribution to a political candidate I would like to see get elected. Then the next month I support someone else. It’s only $50 ($25 tip to a blogger, $25 political contribution) to our budget, but if “everyone” did something similar — even $10 — I am sure that would make a big difference to the Boyz, given the growing readership here — freeing them up to spend more time writing, blogging and getting Hillbuzz Radio up and running.

Off to the tip jar now …. ;)

If some people here act like a two year old and throw a tantrum – maybe they need a time out—I too have worked two jobs – nights at one hospital and weekend at another and extra shifts at both to make ends meet. Know that your ARE appreciated and ignore the tantrum throwers………………love you guys. Any reading between the lines in this article?

Google Attackers Gained Access to Computer Code

By BEN WORTHEN And JESSICA E. VASCELLARO

Attackers who breached Google Inc.’s systems last year gained access to computer code for the software that authenticates users of Google’s email, calendar and other online programs, according to a person familiar with the matter.

The code was contained in a repository that contained code for Google’s online applications and was also breached, this person said.

The disclosure comes as much about the nature of the attacks and the perpetrators behind it remain unclear. Google, which disclosed the attacks in January, opted following the incident to shut down its censored search service in China.

Security experts had previously uncovered evidence that the attackers had stolen some source-code from the company, by exploiting a security flaw in Microsoft Corp’s Internet Explorer.

    * Tech Firms Scramble to Secure Cloud

A Google spokeswoman Monday declined to comment beyond the company’s initial statement on the attacks, which said that some of the company’s intellectual property was stolen and that it believed the attack originated from China.

Chinese officials have denied that their government is responsible.

At the time, Google said it believed that the attackers were trying to access the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists. The company said that it had traced the attacks to China. It said that only two Gmail accounts appear to have been accessed and that activity was limited to account information not the content of the emails. The company added that it had enhanced its security.

The person familiar with the matter said that the attackers gained access to Google’s computer code by compromising a workstation used by a Google engineer.

Google’s password-management system, known as Gaia, does not store passwords or user information; rather it is the instructions that allows Google to recognize when a Google users already logged into one service, like Gmail, tries to log into another. Gaining access to the system is the equivalent of learning how to operate a filing system, and not accessing the information contained inside, the person familiar with the matter said.

The New York Times reported earlier that Google’s password system had been breached.

The disclosure comes as Google has been grappling with the fallout from its decisions to stop censoring its search engine in response to attack. The company began routing searchers in mainland China to an uncensored version of its search engine based in Hong Kong in March. Since then, some services have experienced a range of intermittent blockages.

Perpertrators of the attacks have not been identified. But some security experts suspect a group of attackers that has penetrated hundreds more companies since Google went public with its attacks in January. “The exact same group has been exceptionally active,” said one person familiar with the attacks Google announced.

The group, which is believed to be Chinese and has been identified by investigators by its attack methods, has broadened its victims to include law firms and utility companies, this person said. It’s been penetrating companies at a rate of at least 20-50 new companies a week, this person added.

Have you considered a FAQ section? I saw this on another blog, where the guy got tired of answering/addressing the same stuff over and over. He had a post beforehand where everyone could ask their questions… Anyway, you could use it to advise everyone that your blog is not your full-time job and to JUST GET OVER IT ALREADY!!

Here’s a funny insight into our problems with WordPress.

We only have so much room to name something on those pages above, the ones at the top of the screen.

If we take too much room with a title for a page, it pushes one of the pages to the next line, which visually looks strange.

We’ve tried naming that page FAQ/CONTACT but there’s not enough room to do that.

When we called it the FAQ page, people would complain they could not find our email address.

When we named it the CONTACT page, so they could find the email address, then they could not think to look there for the FAQ.

It’s like a challenge in Hades, rolling rocks up a hill forever, with this stuff.

Working with WordPress is an immense challenge…sort of like trying to fly a plane that’s been pieced together with gum, super glue, and string. Somehow, we manage to stay in the air, but it’s janky and cobbled together by amateurs doing the best they can.

        • YTZ4Me says:

Maybe if you let us in on how much $$ you’re short or would need, etc? I know you have stated for quite some time you want to have your own domain & webpage.

Since K***n has been “outed” as a force behind HillBuzz by those in the Dems who wished him harm (Spit upon them), there is no reason not to go forward full-throttle now.

I fully understand, guys. I wish I could contribute to the group, but just recently declared personal bankruptcy and am trying to scrape up enough to live on without credit. It’s just myself and my elderly mom (she’ll be 86 next month) and I take care of her. I’m trying to sell insurance, which at best isn’t the easiest thing in the world, and in this economy it’s even harder. I don’t have an internet group anywhere near the size of yours, but in my “spare” time I own a yahoo support group for people with the same rare eye disease I have- we have over 1700 members from around the world right now.
So, I understand what you mean about time being limited. In fact, as much as I want to go down and read your first thread about the Palin speech, I have to put it on hold for now; I’m on my out the door for the day.

I wanted to take a moment, though, to apologize if you ever take any of my posts as personal attacks or criticisms of this group, or the way you are running it. I know what’s involved in running a large group along with other obligations, and think you are doing a remarkable job! Thank you!

The internet is a weird world. I, myself, have been caught up in its weirdness. Your blog has become one of my favorite places to come and read and express my thoughts. It’s not just your take on the world but others’ as well. It’s kinda like a chat room without the chat.

I highly respect your opinions and your knowledge of political things. There are times I don’t always agree, but I have never intended to disagree disrespectfully. If you post a story that says “Sarah Palin is wearing blue today so we should all throw away any clothes that are not blue in support and if you see anyone else not wearing blue you should immediately throw mud in their hair” there are those that would come on here and agree completely. I’m not one of those people. I love this blog because there are many opinions and I LOVE that. It makes me think. It keeps my mind open. It’s also a great source of stories or articles that I haven’t seen on my regular favorite sites.

I work at home so I am on the computer 10 hours a day working. I can click over to this site and participate fairly easy. I myself have gotten caught up in the “obsession” of this site and have stepped back and said “Whoa…”

I cannot imagine having this responsibility. I would have lost my patience a long time ago and said “SCREW YA’LL”. The idiots on the left are frigthening enough. But then you have to add the internet psychos into the mix.

THEN there are days I am SO grateful to have a group of people to share my thoughts with. And I am grateful HB has the patience and will to continue this blog so we can continue our conversation. We can agree and disagree and figure things out together. But we should always, always, always be respectful. It’s what makes us unique.

This is your blog and it is a service to us with information WHEN you can get to it. You can not give these people house room..they are not worth your time and energy. I read some of those terrible comments yesterday. So sudden and so out of character for the people here…smells fishy to me. Something’s not right…maybe I was influenced by Lame Cherry, but something screwy there.

    • hillbuzz says:
      2010/04/20 at 10:48 am

That’s our take on it too.

What we think is going on is this:

      (1) the people who attacked yesterday are recent posters….maybe having come on board two or three months ago

      (2) for whatever reason, these trolls decided to come on board and start posting innocuous things for a while to develop credibility

      (3) then, they waited for a chance to attack us for something…it could have been anything…they were just waiting for their opportunity to talk smack

      (4) not finding anything recently in anything we wrote, they instead decided to weirdly attack us for not writing something fast enough, which is absurd. But, maybe they just got tired of hanging out and waiting and decided to manufacture a hit job against us.

Who these people are, we don’t know.

What they are up to, we don’t know.

But, it does seem really suspicious that people like that Nervygirl would, out of nowhere, be so pointedly nasty because we had a report up on Monday instead of on Sunday.

What’s funny is that these same attackers are the ones who are supposedly so religious. Some of these were trolls who jumped all over us for saying not enough was done to protect children in the Catholic Church. They went nuts over saying anything critical of the Pope — and yet, for supposedly being so religious, they were upset with us for not working on a report on Sunday, the day of rest, when people are not supposed to be doing work.

We actually worked on the piece on Sunday, but these things don’t write themselves, and it was not done until Monday.

You try writing a 6,000 word essay freestyle in about 30 minutes, the way these people demanded.

The whole thing is really odd.

I think some people just get overly obsessed on the internet in general. If anybody finds that their life is coming to a halt because someone they don’t even know in real life has not posted something on a blog then it’s time to go outside for some fresh air and get away from your computer.

      • YTZ4Me says:

I think it also speaks to the fact that the concept of “boundaries” seems to have gone missing in much of civil discourse these days.

There’s a difference between being open and assertive and being deliberately confrontational and spiteful.

I worked in a church (administrative) for years and let me tell you those ‘holy’ people can be the meanest! I could tell stories that would curl your hair. Not all of them are like that, but a few are. Don’t let them get to you, consider the source and try to move on.

Meanwhile, take your time and write your article when it comes to you. Sometimes these things have to roll around in your brain for a bit to let all the thoughts ferment.

Love this place, love you guyz.

        Boyz,

I have just read the comments in question on the Crist thread. I don’t know anything about those posters, as to whether or not they are religious or of what persuasion. But as a Christian myself I fully agree with you that those posts do not demonstrate a Christ-like character.

It is also pretty obvious who your rebuke is directed to. The nature and tone of the posts make that clear. They are definitely way beyond just itching for the story and are entirely inappropriate. You can tell they crossed a line from impatient pleading to accusation against you, which is completely unwarranted.

They should be ashamed of themselves and I hope they apologize to you.

      • Leslie says:
        2010/04/20 at 7:32 pm

I agree with most of these comments. The one thing I’ll add is that some good-intentioned people may be a tad overly attached to you, ie the ones who seriously worry if you haven’t posted that day.

One poster mentioned boundaries, and hopefully your response will give people an opportunity to think about what is appropriate (for your sake and theirs!).

Anyway, thanks so much for what you do. You have a lot of supporters here, and I think if this situation crops up again we’ll feel it’s ok to gently remind people to back off.

It suggests using Pelosi instead of bs – as in that’s a load of Pelosi. More polite around small children & much better description than just bs.

This is what I’m wondering this Tues morn. Do you guys keep up w/what Jack Cashill (American Thinker) reveals a/b Obama’s mystery life? It’s easy to miss if you don’t read on the weekends, b/c strangely, that is largely when his articles are posted. His last article (Apr.18) dicusses what has been left out of the Remick biography of Obama, namely that no girlfriends are ever mentioned. Some of the comments referred to his being gay and the trips he would make to a gay bathhouse in Chicago. I thought if there’s any truth to this ya’ll would have the scoop.

    • hillbuzz says:
      2010/04/20 at 10:42 am

The bathhouse is Man’s Country. It’s in Andersonville here in Chicago.

He used to go there on Wednesdays, mainly, during the late 1990s into about 2002 or so, when someone made him stop going so he could run for the Senate.

Older guys here in Chicago remember a tall, skinny light skinned black man who used to enjoy having older white men do things to him orally. He would not reciprocate, but liked having these older white guys pleasure him. When he was done, he’d get up and leave.

Go to bars like Northend, Little Jim’s, Cell Block, Jackhammer, Touche, or the Granvil Anvil here in Chicago and those are the kinds of guys who would have been Man’s Country patrons in the late 1990s.

      • cindy graham says:
        2010/04/20 at 11:14 am

Thank you for the swift response! Whether he is or is not gay is inconsequential-it is the almost complete secrecy about the details of his life that these devotees seem to suspiciously omit. The lack of curiosity to fill these gaps is even more disturbing than what they’re presumably afraid to discover.

I am concerned that President Bill Clinton went on record saying that the “tea party” and other right wing extremists are just as dangerous as the Oklahoma city bombers. I am not sure where this is coming from. Unless he wants Hillary to run again and is afraid the tea party is a force that might stop her or even bring the democratic party down. Very upsetting to hear this coming from someone I have respected, politically speaking.

    • Bev says:
      2010/04/20 at 11:33 am

I think the Clintons are being used by the DNC. Whatever they say or do the news media is going to frame a headline around it. So of course the MSM is going to go left with it and the right will go right with it.

    • hillbuzz says:
      2010/04/20 at 1:47 pm

      Susan,

The Clintons want to run again.

They need the DNC to exist to run.

The Tea Party movement is going to destroy the DNC.

The Clintons see this, and while we believe they are eager to see Dr. Utopia go down, we think they realize that the entire Democrat Party is going to go under.

We believe it is there hope to take the party back to the middle and they think they can save it.

We don’t want the party saved anymore. As much as we want Hillary to be president, we think the Democrat Party should go the way of the Whigs.

In our opinion, the DNC committed suicide in 2008, and it’s just taking this long to bleed out. The Clintons think they can be the paramedics to save it, and while we love them, we actually hope they fail.

The DNC went too far, alienated us, and it can now go fill in the blank as you like it.

Boyz, the hate mail from people who can’t stand waiting a day for you to write your impressions does not suprise me one bit. It is rooted in the sense of entitlement that many people have. I came across a similar situation a few years ago and your writing brought this back to my mind. Hear me out…
There is a holiday here in Canada called Victoria Day during which it is traditional to make fireworks.
So a few years ago, I started buying a few sparklers and fireworks which I would light up at our local park. I always bought extras for the neighborhood kids and people came to watch. Over time, more people found out and more people came every year, to the point where I spent $3-400 every year buying the stuff for all the kids. I didn’t mind but found it a bit strange that no one ever offered to help pay for the stuff even though they brought their kids and I gave out sparklers etc…
One day, a guy came to me really angry and demanded to know who was in charge and how come his kids did not get any sparklers while other kids did. I told him that I had given out the last few to MY kids and that, given that I was paying for all of it, I thought it was OK to give something to my kids. He told me he assumed “the town” was paying for this. I reiterated that I paid for it…and of course, he never offered to contribute anything.
I think this is the same thing here. These people who express more than disappointment in not getting “their fix” have a typical sense of entitlement which is rooted in the way liberals have conditioned us to expect the state, the city or simply “someone” to provide us with what we feel is owed to us.
    Very sad.

(Obviously, thinking them through and writing them up in a clear, amusing, inspiring, and/or punch-packing way takes time. I’m an editor, and I wish more “professional” writers were of your caliber.) You aren’t obligated to us in any way!

We know that you’re uncommonly polite and forgiving when faced with rudeness and loonitude, to coin a term, but I do think you should exercise your prerogative and delete obnoxious posts, or block obnoxious posters. No need to explain why you’ve done it, let alone apologize. If a blocked poster wants to protest, he or she can do so privately, but I think it will be obvious even to the smelliest troll why you’ve put your foot (and portcullis) down.

If you’re feeling obligated because people have contributed money to help keep you going… well, that still doesn’t mean you have to attempt the impossible, and I’m sure the donors would agree.

Sorry, but I have a hard time thinking that he cares one whit about our miners except to use them as an excuse to halt MTR (which is ironic, considering it was an underground mine) and push CnT.

Marco Rubio caught flak here yesterday for some rather soft remarks about Romneycare and Obamacare. Today, thankfully, he reminds us of why he’s worth supporting (certain qualms aside) with some hard talk on Islamic terrorism policy, Iran and Israel:

Only then can we put in place the policies that will actually keep us safer and not pander to the PC crowd while enabling and emboldening the terrorists.

Rush Limbaugh has the right of it: The left will always tell you who scares them. Clearly you guys are now doing your part in the ‘conservative revolution’ properly. It’s not easy to laugh off hate. In fact, a drop of hate in a glass of pure love will always leave a particularly nasty taste. Perhaps you could ask someone close to Sarah how she manages it because she is a past-master at countering the vitriole which is so regularly spewed at her. Oh and by the way, I’m a complete addict. Sitting here with a good Cote du Rhone and *finally* got a chance read the Sarah Report, Part I.

Absolutely fabulous. You guys are complete wordsmiths. Had to smile at the big about the lady wearing her Panda pin !

Reading your commentary about Todd, it just reaffirmed what I have been saying for quite some time now about some of the jealousy and vitriol that is hurled at the Palins.

I am also blessed to have an incredible help-meet and partner. He is a very secure man, tres sexy, and extremely confident. (Well, he’s a Marine, so that goes without saying). And he is *always* *always* *always* supportive of me and my accomplishments — he’s my biggest booster.

Those washed up hags in the Left can’t handle that Palin has the *whole* package — athletic, gorgeous, self-confident … bright, with an incredible emotional intelligence, and an incredibly *positive* outlook on life. Palin is upbeat and you know it’s not forced. I love the photos of her working on the commercial fishing boat with Todd. She has a loving, secure, beyond-sexy mate and a wonderful family. She lives her faith and her values.

The Palins represent what most of America is, and the very best of America. The Obots represent the jaded, corrupted husk of an America that has been sucked dry of optimism and self-reliance.

Thanks for painting such as a great portrait of the Palins and Preoria.

Looking forward to your analysis of her actual speech.

Okay, I had to check if this is the “Open Thread” b/c I don’t want to engender wrath by going O/T …

Originally we were scheduled to fly to the UK for a much needed vaycay, but the Volcano had other ideas. Instead, we’re heading out in a few days for a get away to Key West, which is about as far away from DC I can think of.

Studmuffin used to fly to Key West NAS quite a bit in his day, but I’d appreciate any ideas/tips/suggestions from others about good places to eat, hang out. Looking for a really fun breakfast place.

    Would be much appreciated …..

There USED to be a restaurant, I *think*, either on the north end of KW or one of the islands shortly north of it called Eic’s Island or Eric’s floating island. It was over 25 years ago when I last ate there, but a couple years back I was curious and just did an internet search and found that the restaraunt was still in operation. It doesn’t surprise me as any restaurant with food that outstanding should stay open, absent death, illness or gross mismanagement of funds)

The food is ABSOLUTELY at that highest level of fine dining – (you know what I mean – many places have the price & atmosphere but the food fails to stun you – not at this this place). When I ate there it was exclusively french cooking. I’d place it as one of the three best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at.

        Blow:
Thanks so much for the tip — we did some research and couldn’t find it?? — so we made reservations for “Louie’s Backyard”, which is “supposed” to be Key West’s most romantic dining spot.

I love French food, but then, I love almost all good food — I guess you could call me a gastronomic whore.

Then it’s off to Miami — another city I’ve never been to — we’re going to check out some restaurants featured in one of the Studmuffin’s fav shows — “Burn Notice”, and I will be on the quest for the “ultimate” Cuban sandwich. Yum, yum, yum.

Any suggestions for breakfast joints in KW?

Yeah, you piqued my curiosity and I just went surfing around to try and find it. Ain’t on the net, so I’m guessing it closed.

Another place to try, and you’ll have to hunt this one up as well, but I think its “La Concha”. I *believe* its either on Marathon or Islamorada. Its a rather old restaurant in a rather old building. Iirc, sort of art deco, but very nice relaxed atmosphere. They have a grilled fish of some sort that is topped with grilled tomatoes, I believe coconut, maybe grilled bananas (I know it sounds bizarre as hell, but it is verrry gooood).

Breakfast? No, nothing in particular. There are tons of places that serve breakfast though.

There’s got to be somebody on here that lives in the keys though.

This is exactly what the HB were talking about — everyone who has the ability, needs to start producing, disseminating and sharing videos like this.

I know Snowqueen didn’t agree, but this is one of the key principals of “Total Resistance” — it is important that you understand that you are not alone in your resistance. The drive behind the Obots and Astroturfing is to make you feel that you are alone in your ideas — when the opposite is true.

Don’t forget, it was 3% of the population in the colonies that initiated the American Revolution. The Tea Party is well above that, and the movement is on the ascendancy.

I also liked “One Term President” and ordered my OTP bumper sticker ! ;)

I am off to vote against local and regional school budget and to vote out the current school board. Time for them to go. They keep asking for more money and NJ can’t afford it. So, they are just going to have to do more with less. I read an article that the state pays $22,000 per pupil in the city of Newark and only 1/3 of the students graduate. That’s just unacceptable. That money comes from our taxes.

I’ll be curious to see how many citizen tea partiers come out to vote on these local elections this year here in NJ. Hopefully enough to send another message to the dolts who run the cities and the state. Taxed Enough Already.

        jo,

I don’t know about your district but mine was abuzz! I couldn’t get a parking space so I had to park at the school next door! When I got there the teachers’ union guys were there en masse – 7 of them with their union logo on the shirts along with 2 guys in suits and dark glasses. They didn’t look happy.

One car after another parked near me – all couples – all seniors. When we got inside to vote I had to wait in line!!! It was busier than the Presidential election. I asked one of the election clerks if they were busy and she said it was like that all day!

Unfortunatly, when I came out, the union guys along with a few women were handing out flyers that advocated the budgets being passed “for the children” and, of course, their favorite candidates. This is against the law in NJ – they must be at least 200 feet away from the door and they were in the parking lot electioneering. I told them that they were breaking the law and pulled out my cell phone. They moved back and I went back in to tell the election judges what was happening. They came out to see and went to speak to the electioneers. I left then so I don’t know what happened.

Yeesh. They NEVER play by the rules.

Interestingly, to my knowledge, none of the service members who chained themselves to the fence stated that they were gay. They were just advocating on behalf of LGBT rights and a repeal of DADT.

Which begs the question … what would happen if someone like me decided to join them? I’m not gay nor a servicemember, but do support them and their courage.

What would the O Administration do then? Round up a bunch of housewives and grannies?

I sincerely apologize if any of my comments hurt or offended you.

I am relatively new to your blog and somewhat ignorant of your methods. Please allow me to try and explain my angst.

Sunday morning you said you would have your report on Sarah later that day. I was so anxious to hear about your experience that I put my life on hold all day Sunday and Monday. Maybe that reflects poorly on me that I would spend 2 days hitting the refresh button. Anyway, at first I thought maybe some of those punk thugs had conked you you the head or something. Then, to my relief I started seeing new threads that you posted, so I assumed you were OK. Still nothing on Sarah though, and I began to worry that you were really disappointed in her – just didn’t want to write about it.

I have to leave the house soon, but I wanted to get this off my chest.

I am very nervous about this administration’s treatment of the press. There are some things I have little interest in or knowledge about, but I am interested in freedom of the press. There have been a lot of stories lately about this administration’s shutting out reporters. That bothers me a lot. I won’t post them all here, but they include the Washington Post, which had the most extreme language of all. That says something to me.

Kennedy said the press was vitally important to accountability in government. I think that is true. The pen is mightier than the sword.

Oh, and about getting hate mail and stuff. It must be upsetting and frightening. It is hard, but I just try to remember that if people need to do and say stuff like that they are not well in some way. It says more about them than it does about the recipient. But processing it emotionally is hard.

Your writing is wonderful, your campaign knowledge is priceless and I appreciate all you do for this community, your in-the-flesh community and this country.

Take a breath, take a bow, and take your time getting your thoughts and impressions down, I for one am willing to wait for when youre ready.

    Be well

    Boyz

I think that the real issue is that your blog is constantly growing and expanding (your new partnership with C4P for example) and, with the unique (prior insider if you will) insight you provide us on the Dems, dirty tricks, and their whole dirty ball of wax, you pose a definite threat to the Dems. So I think they are desparate to somehow mitigate or destroy your growing influence on the entire internet audience. I think they watch your site carefully, and look for any possible chance or way to try and discredit you. The troll attacks on you for not “reporting instantly” on Gov Palin are just one more attempt to drive readers away from you. Please don’t let these trolls and the Dems dirty tricks discourage you in any way. While your readers (and posters) are not always in complete agreement, you are a refreshing voice amid the lies and garbage the lame stream media try to present and I. for one, truly appreciate you and what you are doing. We are all Americans together, love our country, and want the best for it, ourselves, our children, families, and future
generations. You are helping in that fight more than you will ever know, and the vast majority of us truly appreciate your efforts.

I have been waiting to get a second job and have some extra cash to contribute to your website, but reading about the dumb emails you have been getting from some people here made me realize how much I appreciate you boyz and what you do here to keep us committed to a vision of what our country should be. I am so grateful for your wonderful insights and your “we can” attitude that I decided to start now sending you a bit of cash. It’s not much but I am now going to be supporting your time and talents in my small way and show my gratitude for what you do. Thanks from the bottom of my heart and please stay healthy and safe! You have friends here in beautiful South Eastern Idaho.
