The Good Humor Man….literally
Just when I thought I had seen and read every crazy story out there….something new comes along.
NEW YORK – Authorities say a New York City man sold highly addictive black-market prescription painkillers out of his ice cream truck.
Louis Scala is accused of being one of the leaders of a Staten Island drug trafficking ring that illegally sold nearly 43,000 oxycodone pills — worth $1 million on the street — between 2009 and 2010.
Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget Brennan says the ice cream truck was a “primary sales point.”
Authorities say the 29-year-old Scala doled out treats to children and then sold oxycodone to adult customers.
Scala is among more than a dozen people suspected of being members of the drug gang who were arraigned Tuesday and Wednesday.
He was released on $15,000 bail. The voice mail on his phone wasn’t set up to take messages Thursday.
The kids can get a Orange Creamsicle and the moms can get Oxycodone.
I’m speechless.

Mother’s little helper baby, mother’s little helper. At least the kids were only getting ice cream… thank G-d for small favours (I guess I just outed myself as a Canadian!)
They are just finding this out, the ice cream man in my Cleveland Neighborhood has been selling drugs out of his dingle-ling van for years now. Every now and then he goes to jail and his brother takes over. They have 5 or 6 different vans. Pick up a baggie of smoke and the munchies at the same time.
I’m not speechless. In Dallas, we have parking lots with slot boxes where you slip in the fee for your parking space, no attendant on site. A friend’s brother came down from New Jersey and wondered why nobody came by with a crane and snapped the money box off the pole. It is because we’re decent people down here! How sad that our entire northeast is such a cesspool of crime and corruption that the average person thinks this way. I guess that’s why they always vote Democrat.
Same in my neighborhood. The ice cream man came only after 8:30 p.m., raced to the Section 8 housing, cruised it several times, then raced out. I reported it to the drug enforcement section of our police department several times, but they did nothing. The only reason it stopped is because all of the buyers ended up in jail for other crimes.
Few better fronts for illicit anything.
Near-perfect placement and access for street-level activity.
They have the valid reason for being in any area along their route, they have access to everyone along their route, and they have an easy method of laundering the money.
I’ve been suspicious of the mobile ice cream sales trucks for years.
Illicit sales, surveillance, transport and distribution of contraband… many possibilities.
Same thing happened 2 years ago here in the Leavenworth, Kansas area – http://www.kmbc.com/r/20165001/detail.html
Then I did a search on Ice Cream Trucks, and found that some were responsible for hit and run accidents and all sorts of crimes!
Heck, you can’t even trust the Ice Cream Man anymore!
