The Chick-fil-A haters

Posted on August 24, 2011 by Bridget // Climate of Hate, Gay Bullying, Hillbuzz, Hypocrisy, Identity Politics, The Left

On any given day (except Sunday), the drive through line at a Chick-fil-A restaurant may be a mile long….at least it always seems to be in Aiken or North Augusta or Columbia ,South Carolina.  I don’t mind waiting though because there’s nothing like a Chick-fil-A sandwich.  Anyone who says that they hate Chick-fil-A has obviously not had one of their sandwiches, but there are those who truly do hate the restaurant chain and it’s not because of their food.  Those haters are the liberals who are protesting the fact that Chick-fil-A’s founder, 93 year old Truett  Cathy, is a gracious, generous, Christian southern gentleman with good old fashioned values.  For instance, you will never find a Chick-fil-A open on a Sunday.  His employees are carefully screened to make sure they are just the kind of person Mr. Cathy wants working for him (cheerful, friendly and courteous).  Chick-fil-A always has the cream of the crop of employees in the fast food business.  Mr. Cathy gives millions and millions of dollars to an employee college scholarship fund…his employees love him. He’s been honored by the Children’s Hunger Fund, and won the Horatio Alger award and the William E. Simon Prize for Philanthropic Leadership, for his charity.

Mr. Cathy also gives money to such college groups as the Campus Crusade for Christ and nothing gets a liberals panties in a wad faster than to say the “C” word….as in Christ.  They are claiming that Mr. Cathy and the entire Chick-fil-A chain are anti-gay…simply because the founder is a Christian.  When a Chick-fil-A opened in Chicago last year, protesters from the organization getequal.org began a campaign to “stop the hate” and distributed fliers that called the restaurant “Bigot-fil-A”.

This is hypocrisy…pure and simple.  They are protesting against Mr. Cathy just because he is a Christian….not because he said or did anything against the gay community( because he has never said anything anti-gay).  Mr. Cathy is a kind and loving man who welcomes anyone into his restaurants and he is very loved and respected…especially in the South.  Why is it that if you are a Christian then you are automatically labelled as anti-gay?  If you are a conservative, then you are anti-black, anti-Latino, anti-gay etc.

Are the American people going to see through all the smoke and mirrors of the left’s identity politics?  Hopefully.

In the meantime…the liberals can keep on protesting Chick-fil-A because that means there’s less people in line at the drive-through at noon.

I LOVE Chick-fil-A

And my husband talks about how when he was in business school, they talked about a business case where Chik FilA hired some consultants. They were trying to find new revenue sources or some such. And the consultants came back, all proud of themselves: hey, you should open on Sunday!!! We solved your problem! You can get 1/7 more revenue.
And Mr. Cathy threw them out of his office. He said: you do not understand my business or anything about my company.
    And that was that.
I don't eat meat anymore, but they are wonderful sandwiches. Their fries/cole slaw/lemonade are THE BEST. Yes, their cole slaw *is* better than other places. I don't know why…

Thanks for recognizing a well-run company founded by a good and decent man. The haters really go nuts in their scorched earth drive of intolerance.

Side note: I usually crave Chik-Fil-A the most on Sundays when they are closed. We would drive by them right after church and joke about breaking in and turning on the friers. There's probably a downside to that plan . . .

I’ve never had Chick-Fil-A. I am thankful they are finally in Chicago now. They didn’t have these in Ohio when I was growing up, and I didn’t even know they were in Illinois until I was on Michigan Avenue one day and think I spotted one around a corner, but was too busy to stop.

What’s recommended if I get the chance to go one day?

honestly, i don't think there's a bad thing on the menu, mainly because all their chicken is REAL meat, not processed, glued-together meat.

but i'm a simple gal with simple tastes, so i usually order their original sandwich with lettuce and tomato and request a packet of mayo for it. and i like their polynesian sauce for my waffle fries instead of castup. mmmmm. waffle fries. *drools*

Anything! The chicken is awesome. I always get the nuggets. Down here in Tennessee they now have the sweet potato waffle fries. UMMM UMMMM UMMMM!! They may have them in Chicago, too. I highly recommend them! :-)

I recommend the basic fried chicken sandwich, without the pickle. The lemonade is good, too.

Kevin….I’m taking you to Chick-fil-A when I’m up next month. My favorite fast food! I had a friend growing up that was friends with the Cathy sons and swears that their secret recipe for their unique taste is that they marinate their chicken in dill pickle juice. I’ve never tried it but it sounds reasonable. What a great American business and I love those cows. Eat more chicken!

when my son was 8 and still in school, he had to do a project where he decorated a paper gingerbread man to look like what he wanted to be when he grew up.

so here's this third grade gifted program display in the school, covered with gingerbread people depicted as doctors, lawyers, engineers, astronauts, etc.

    then there's my son's contribution: chik-fil-a employee.

personally, i thought it was the most honest one up there.

For years I have admired Mr. Cathy for daring to close his business on Sunday. You have given me more reason to respect him. Too many people claim to be Christian (or ethical or scientific or…) and can't be bothered to walk the talk. Thanks for sharing the information

If the progressives/liberals boycott Chick-fil-a, I won't have to wait so long at the drive-in window, which is a plus as far as I am concerned. Is it possible that these anti-Christian Gay protestors will create a backlash on Gays, sending openness & acceptance back to the days when no one was openly "out". It seems the same ploy that the Black Race Baiters use….insult, harass, and accuse people, in order to get them to react. At any rate, I love Chick-fil-a and their continually innovative menu.

  • Mawm says:

Why should I support a business that actively donates to groups that vehemently oppose my rights as a gay person?

If you want to be very public about being a Christian business, don't whine when you get backlash from it.

    • Kevin DuJan says:
      2011/08/24 at 8:51 am

What groups oppose gay rights? I’m not aware of any of these being funded by Chik-Fil-A. But I do see clearly that the Left uses gays to scream HOMOPHOBE! at businesses, especially those run by Christians.

I bet it would be very easy to look at the groups any Leftist business donates to and find many instances of those donations going to hurt Christians in some way.

    • presley says:
      2011/08/24 at 8:53 am

You don't have to and that is just fine. Don't go.That's the beauty of choice. Chick-fil-A is not whining and neither is Bridget. Bridget, you don't work for Chick-fil-A, do you? :-)

    • subdjoe says:
      2011/08/24 at 3:03 pm

Why? Maybe because it would the the tolerant thing to do?

Let's turn the tables. Should there be a backlash against businesses run by homosexuals who are open about it because they donate to, say, the ACLU with its anti-Christian history? Or would that be discrimination against gays?

    • rickynlevy says:
      2011/09/14 at 12:54 am

I am gay my self and I support Chick-fil-a.. I am also a proud Christian conservative.. WOW what a mix uh?? I LOVE Chick-fil-a. The gay community can only blame their self.. YEY Chick-fil-a!!! If this was ran by Muslims there would be no protesting because the left supports their hate towards Gays.. Muslims hang gay people, but of course the stupid lefttist and its dumb gay sheep followers will never say or protest them, its just not politically correct or cool to do so.. baa..baa http://shariafreeusa.com/the-religion-supported-m…

    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/popular-chick…

The article also has an update: "UPDATE: Cathy now says Chick-fil-A will no longer donate to any organizations that take a political stand on marriage."

If this is true, doesn't it suggest that the objections by gay marriage allies have had an effect on the company?

Again, if a business doesn't want backlash then don't wade into the political sphere.

Who is hurting Christians? What does that hurt look like? Give me an example of any political organization that is trying to hurt Christians.

  • Lombardian says:
    2011/08/24 at 9:49 am

I have never been to one, but I will go now. I'm intrigued! As far as groups that protest them because this business has a Christian founder, may I ask them if they participate in businesses where they know that the owner is muslim? Why? If you look into it, you'll find that Islam proscribes very dire consequences to being gay. What about businesses that are run by other minority groups who have a very anti-gay stance. Are they boycotted? I guess not since they're all part of the same political party. So, you see, it's not about discrimination against gays but it is about who's pulling your puppet strings that count.

    • subdjoe says:
      2011/08/24 at 3:00 pm

Lombardian, not only proscribe homosexuality, but often carry out the letter of the religious law and kill homosexuals in mohammedean run countries. No matter what happens here, I can't see government executions being carried out.

    • posercom says:
      2011/08/24 at 8:22 pm

Great point. We have many Halef food stores in Philly. Halef is kind of like Kosher food in that the meat is slaughtered a particular way as to drain out all the bllod quickly. It is about the only practrice in Islam that I can support because it leaves no stagnant blood in the meat. But I certainly doubt that any of these Halef stores would consider hiring a Jewish employee even though Halef came from the Jewish practice of slaughtering meat.

  • Lombardian says:

I am a Christian man. I love all people, gays or straight. We are all sinners and in need of redemption, and that is through Christ. In all of my dealings, I've never, ever encountered a gay man who was anything but kind to me. I am close to a professor of mine who is gay. His compassion, honesty, and dedication to excellence are so appealing to me.. My message as a Christian is to share the Gospel and let people know that there is redemption – forever! We just have to accept and believe, and ask Him to live through us. No strings, no exceptions, nothing…

I know there is a lot of backlash against Chick-fil-A in some quarters because of the "Christian-based" aspect of their company. I, too, say to those people, "Then don't eat there – or apply for a job there." I live in Atlanta, and the people I know who DO work for Chik-fil-A LOVE working there. I talked to other people who were mortally offended because, in the interview process, they make it clear that they are a Christian-based company. Hey, they're not hiding anything, and they don't openly discriminate. They are very particular about who they hire, and their superior service reflects this. Unlike other fast food chains who will hire you if you're breathing, CFA is careful about who they hire, and they don't have the extreme turnover rates other fast-food companies do. So if you would be offended because they pray at staff meetings, don't work there. And if you're offended because the drive-thru clerk smiles and wishes you a blessed day, eat at McDonalds. This is AMERICA!!!

And, BTW, I LOVE their ad agency!!! I look forward to new commercials and billboards for Chik-fil-A because they make me laugh out loud.

    • atlmom says:
      2011/08/24 at 10:56 am

I'm with you! My husband interviewed with a company here in GA (not CFA) and he was uncomfortable because they are a christian organization that many times prays for guidance, etc. Well, we're jewish, and it's not his cup of tea (they do have other jews who work there). They offered him the job, and he turned it down. He did not say anything like: oh, you're terrible people, or whatever. That's how they do business, and we are both completely respectful of that. it's no different than interviewing at another company and not liking the way *they* do business, or the atmosphere in the office, or whatever.
But i'm so with you (it was a private company that is doing fantastically…if we could have invested in it, we would!).

I'm a non-theist, an aunt to much loved gay nieces & nephews, and a non-fast food eater except for the occasional Chik-fil-A meal. I respect Mr Cathy and anyone who lives their faith. The staff of the local Chik-fil-A are like a breath of fresh air compared to people behind the counters of the other fast food places in this college/tourist town. BTW, the waffle fries are the best!

I love me some Christian Chicken. Beside their food being absolutely delecious, there is that added bonus of pissing off liberals every time you eat Christian Chicken. And it has been my pleasant experiance that the employees are like something out of the 1950's, meaning thay have impecable manners and are cheerful and kid just like most Christians I know.

Now, I will totally have to checkout the Chick-Fil-A here in Chicago, because usually fast food employees here are mean and surly. It would be a treat just to go to a fast food place and be treated well. Having good food on top of it would be a bonanza.

I have to say that my special treat used to be Wendy’s, but I stopped going because every time I’d pop in here in Chicago, the employees were so awful to deal with, in all four different Wendy’s I could find, that I felt bad spending money there and validating their customer service with a purchase. Gave up on Burger King a long time ago for the same reason. I probably have fast food once every four or five months, so I will really look forward to a trip to Chick-Fil-A to check it out.

Nothing speaks Southern hospitality like receiving a "My Pleasure!" after you say "Thanks!" – that's what you will definitely see at a Chick-Fil-A.

Here in the Houston area, every Chick-Fil-A I pass by at lunch or dinner time has a VERY LONG waiting line for their drive-thru… Imagine inside. The franchises have addressed that by using iPad-like cash registers, which employees use to take orders without the need to wait forever to reach the take-out speakers. They even show you a brief menu to help you out. You order, you pay with your card (cash is at the window, though) and you keep waiting as they prepare your order. If they take too long, they will take your order to the car. Lots of moms go there to meet for chats while their kids play in the slides, schools have their Spirit Nights there, and there's even a show or two for the whole family some times per month.

Go ahead and try to ask for one of those things at a McDonald's… Around here, those drive-thru lines are… shall we say… empty.

Why on earth would anyone even care?
Honestly, some folks simply have too much time on their hands and (clearly) a far too high ability to hate.

I don’t get it; who’s forcing anyone to go there?

Someone should open a place and make everyone wear a silly purple hat in order to be served.
What sort of anti-purple hat crowd could they draw?
