A sixth grade teacher in a Chicago Public School classroom has been identified as a moonlighting stand-up comic who mocks his black students’ names, intelligence, and home life in degrading “comedy routines” staged in the city’s LGBTQAI community…where gay Chicago men have a longstanding habit of making racist, “ghetto” jokes at the expense of black people…but are never called-out on it because gays are a protected and favored class in our national media; a gay public school teacher ridiculing and degrading his black students for the amusement of gay audiences thus pits two of the institutional Left’s primary demographic groups against one another in as politically-incorrect terms as possible. Chicago’s now faced with the rare spectacle of wondering whom the media will side with on this one: the black children being mocked or the gay comic who degrades them on stage?
Bradley Thomas Balof, a gay, white, male teacher at Joseph Stockton Elementary School on the North Side of Chicago continues to perform his standup routine at venues like Zanies in Old Town, with troupes such as OutLoud Chicago, and in appearances at Sidetrack the Video Bar in Boystown (where Balof also serves as the bar’s master-of-ceremonies (MC) for special events and regularly dances nearly-nude as an in-house erotic entertainer).
Balof’s “comedy stylings” at Sidetrack and other gay venues include:
* Mocking the names of his black students, particularly the females, as “Shaquisha”, “Loquisha”, “”Shaniqua” , “Bon’Qui Qui”, and other variations of same that are disturbingly popular “jokes” amongst many gay men in Chicago
* Informing his audiences that he’s a public school teacher in Chicago who is exasperated by the lack of learning ability of his black students…and then detailing their academic struggles on stage in a “my students are so funny, they think 2 plus 2 is 5″ kind of way; other “jokes” in this vein involved the children not knowing what various sexual or other adult terms meant and then having “funny” responses to Balof about them
* Affecting a “ghetto accent” and taking on “ghetto black mannerisms” while telling “jokes” about the black people he claims to encounter during his teaching day
* Ridiculing black parents, especially the mothers, for the poor school performance of their kids
* Maligning black women as welfare queens and linking their reproductive frequency to the lackluster academic performance of their children
* Presenting himself on stage as a sainted martyr for having to “put up with black kids all day at work”
Balof regularly performs these “jokes” as the master-of-ceremonies (MC) for high-profile events held at Sidetrack the Video Bar, which is owned by prominent Chicago gay activists Art Johnston and Jose Pepin “Pepe” “Pep” Pena (who are also the principle fundraisers and founders for/of the lobbying organization Equality Illinois). Johnston and Pena are regularly present for Balof’s comedy routines and laugh along with the rest of the gay audience as Balof mocks black people unrelentingly. This is especially disturbing, since Johnston and Pena take the stage at these same events to promote Equality Illinois’ purported mission of achieving “equality for everyone in Illinois”…but then they laugh uproariously when one of their employees lambasts the culture and intelligence of black Chicago children and their parents.
I have personally and repeatedly complained to both Johnston and Pena about the offensive nature of the “comedy” performed at Sidetrack, with Pena in particular telling me in his thick accent that he didn’t care about complaints and that he “thinks this is funny”…and so Sidetrack will keep doing what it’s been doing, with Pena’s personal approval, regardless of how awful some of these “jokes” truly are.
Sidetrack the Video Bar films all of its special events MC-ed by Balof and stores these recordings digitally in its VJ/sound booth above its Main Bar room at 3349 N. Halsted in Boystown; as of Friday 5/31/13, it appears an investigation now has been launched by the Chicago Public Schools administration to obtain copies of all these videos for review, as Sidetrack has never made these performances by Balof available on its website or YouTube. There is an entire video production facility in-house and on-site at Sidetrack, with three or four dedicated staff members in charge of filming, editing, and archiving every event that happens in the bar.
[ Click PLAY above: as of this writing, this commercial for “Laugh Track” found on YouTube is the only film from the events available; while it does not show the racist jokes about public school students that are so offensive and only offers a taste of what “Laugh Track” was all about, it does prove that these shows were filmed by Sidetrack using the bar’s video production facilities. You can see screens to the sides of the comics where they’re being projected while they work the microphone; a Sidetrack camera operator was filming them so it could be broadcast on the screens and those performances were then captured digitally and archived in the Sidetrack VJ/sound booth ]
From the summer of 2010 through the spring of 2011, Balof and fellow comic Adam Guerino additionally staged the “Laugh Track” live comedy shows held at Sidetrack on Thursday nights; these featured standup comedy performances by Balof where he used his life as a public school teacher in majority-minority Joseph Stockton Elementary as the basis for his performance sets. Another Sidetrack co-owner, Chuck Hyde, was quoted in November of 2010 saying these “Laugh Track” shows had “been growing rapidly…We know that there’s a whole lot of talent in our community that doesn’t always get to showcase, so this just seemed like a natural fit” for Sidetrack the Video Bar. Another interview with Guerino revealed that he, Hyde, and Balof had conceived the idea for “Laugh Track” together and were the principle driving forces of the weekly events.
These “Laugh Track” shows were heavily promoted by owners Johnston, Pena, and Hyde with lavish posters and ads in all of the city’s gay entertainment publications. By all accounts, they were extremely well-attended and brought a lot of business into the bar on what was otherwise a slow night of the week. But, the consistently degrading nature of the material aimed at black people and children quickly soured audiences and “Laugh Track” was canceled unceremoniously in 2011…with most references to it disappeared down the “memory hole”. After hoping the ill will and hurt feelings that initial year of performances caused had been forgotten, Sidetrack attempted to resurrect “Laugh Track” again in the spring of 2012…but it was not restored as regularly featured entertainment in the bar. Balof, however, continued his racist comedy stylings at Sidetrack whenever he took the mic as an MC of special events and still performs at Zanies and other venues whenever they will have him…making fun of the black students in his sixth grade class wherever he can plug in a microphone.
Balof’s official performance biography describes him under his stage name “Bradley Thomas” as:
Bradley Thomas (www.bradleythomascomic.com) is a comedian, Activist, Teacher, Drag Queen, Leatherman, Bartender, Actor, Model, Bottom. Bradley Thomas does it all. Whether for his weekly show Laugh Track at Sidetrack, Night of 100 Drag Queens, International Mister Leather, or other performances Bradley has been performing as a comedian and emcee for over a decade. His quick wit, and sardonic view help him create stand-up performances that are both relevant and irreverent. Bradley does not shy away from incorporating equality, sexuality, and social justice into his art. Of course, he is quickest to laugh at himself, if you dont beat him to the punch. If laughter is medicine, Bradley hopes his audiences OD every night.
A “bottom”, as listed in the bio above, is a reference to Balof’s preferred position during anal sex (in which he elects to be the receptive partner); this is the first time I’ve ever seen a comedian list personal information such as this in a program bio…and one that his sixth grade students could easily find online in an internet search, no less.

Hot Tip for the GOP: Monitor the Craigslist.org “Missed Connections” and “Casual Encounters” postings for Charlotte through Thursday (remember Rob Lowe in Atlanta in 1988?)
[ Click above to embiggen: Charlotte’s sexual offerings are either under PERSONALS or also under SERVICES (household) or GIGS (creative and domestic). Prostitutes often advertise as “models”. ]
The GOP should aggressively monitor the Craigslist.org postings for Charlotte through Thursday…specifically the sections called “Missed Connections”, “Casual Encounters”, and the M4M sections. No doubt many Democrat politicians will be looking for quick campaign hookups…and considering that many Democrats have some pretty wild sexual hangups a city as small as Charlotte might make these kinds of anonymous pairings difficult without Craigslist.
In case you aren’t aware, Craigslist has become the place of choice for prostitutes and people into very kinky stuff to “meet” online. Hardly anyone uses chat rooms anymore (remember AOL back in the day and the little chats where people would “meet” and cyberchat?), it’s mostly just through Craigslist. Before AOL it used to be these phone numbers you could call and listen to ads in mailboxes, with the ads placed in the backs of gay newspapers for each city (the advertising fees for which pretty much funded those now-defunct gay papers). Gay guys today also use a smartphone APP called GRINDR that locates other guys in a certain-radius who are advertising themselves as available for sex…gratis or looking for “generous” partners, with “generous” the code word that prostitution is involved. There are similar APPS for just about any kind of subgroup in the gay community you can think of (such as “bears”, who are hairier and heavier guys…though not necessarily at the same time since both clean-shaven John Goodman and hirsute Joe Manganiello (from True Blood) would be considered Bears…with some gays even getting more specific and calling Joe a “wolf”, which is a physically-fit “bear” who is still part of the “bear community” though he has around 2% body fat).
Do you remember what Rob Lowe got up to back in 1988 at the Democrat Convention in Atlanta? For the first several years I lived in Chicago, the gay bar here called Sidetrack used to play a bootleg copy of the film where Lowe is in the hotel room stark naked and erect with another man and the two of them take turns having sex with underage girls on one of the nights of the Democrats’ Convention. Sidetrack played it with the song “You’re 16, You’re Beautiful, and You’re Mine”* dubbed over whatever was originally on the film (interspersed with clips of Lowe singing Proud Mary with Snow White at the Academy Awards in 1989, the next year**)…with Lowe’s genitalia clearly shown and the other man’s face always obscured so no one has ever been told (that I know of) who that was. Most news reports focused only on Rob and the girls being there and it wasn’t until I moved to Chicago and saw this tape on the screens at Sidetrack did I ever realize that Lowe was having a foursome that included another man at the Democrat Convention. I’ve always imagined that meant it was a Kennedy or some other high-ranking Democrat involved with Lowe. JFK Jr. was in Atlanta for that convention, and he was bisexual…and Lowe was the kind of guy he’d go for so it’s always been my pet theory that was him on that tape too. The tape has so aggressively been removed from YouTube or other internet sites that I swear the other man in the video must have been someone important because they would not have gone to that much trouble just because the two girls were underage. It was clearly the second man they were protecting, whoever he was.
Dear HillBuzz -
Maybe it’s just because HillBuzz.org has been covering this lately, but I have noticed things around me that tie into issues we Buzzers have had great discussions about – namely bullies who claim they are the victims.
It started with the Only@Brunch guys making derogatory comments about Trig Palin in Chicago and The Ben Cohen Standup Foundation hypocritically holding an anti-bullying event in the venue where those bullying attacks were showcased. And I have to hand it to the HillBuzz crew for standing up for Trig and everyone else who gets picked on in the gay community because of their handicaps or what-have-you. Also, HillBuzz’s highlighting of the Gaystapo’s constant targeting of people they don’t agree with has made me realize how much those who claim to be victims are really the bullies.
Sunday Action Item: Can you please leave a comment on the YouTube video of the Chicago gay talk show that’s mocking Trig Palin? UPDATE: Video removed by Only@Brunch, but all comments screengrabbed and preserved in this thread.
UPDATE 8/21/11: Jared Hall at Downtown Cupid Productions edited out the horrible attack on Trig on Sunday afternoon 8/21/11 and is now trying to pretend none of this ever happened. Just like the Left to try to flush things down the Memory Hole when they get caught. The new, edited video retains the “Only@Brunch” attacks on Michele Bachmann and Sarah Palin, however. You can comment on the new, edited video here: Only@Brunch pilot episode.
Another thing Jared Hall at Downtown Cupid Productions is doing is trying to curry sympathy by claiming someone called him “Hitler” in comments left on his YouTube site, which is the excuse he gave in the video you’ll find below regarding why he deleted all comments.
Well, Jared, we screengrabbed all the comments left for you on YouTube before you deleted them. There is no reference to Hitler anywhere but your own imagination, sister mister. Read all the comments left for you, and you will see that for yourself. I managed to grab all of them before you deleted them at 2:27pm 8/21/11 when you attempted to erase everything related to Jesse Budlong’s hatefully cruel attack on Trig Palin on your pilot episode of “Only@Brunch”.
How about your next episode focus on Jesse Budlong explaining why he thinks it’s funny to mock people with special needs, and why you as a producer allowed this mocking of a toddler with Down Syndrome to be broadcast in the first place? If there’s time on your show, further explain why you’re now in DELETE, DELETE, DELETE mode — even though everything you and your co-hosts have done is saved on multiple hard drives coast to coast.
Here in Boystown, the gay talk show “Only@Brunch” recently mocked special needs, Down Syndrome toddler Trig Palin in the pilot episode of the latest “Downtown Cupid” production from Jared Hall.
Because of the attention HillBuzz.org shined on this attack on a special needs child by catty gay men, Hall has released a statement agreeing the mocking of Trig Palin on “Only@Brunch” was indeed tasteless and unjustified.
I, however, don’t feel Hall has explained himself well enough, because it remains a mystery why he chose to air this episode with the inclusion of the attack on Trig Palin. When taping anything like the “Only@Brunch” show, there is always the ability to stop, in the middle of the segment, and start again if something as atrocious as the jab at a Down Syndrome toddler happens. This was not a live broadcast, but a production that was filmed, edited, and approved for broadcast by Jared Hall and Downtown Cupid Productions.
At the very least, Hall should have, on camera, scolded co-host Jesse Budlong for mocking Trig Palin.
But, Hall, and fellow cast members Bradley Thomas Balof, Terrence Chappell, Craig Rathwell, and Brian Felder laughed along with Budlong and didn’t seize the opportunity to tell him that his comment was inappropriate and had really crossed a line.
What’s caught on tape in this “Only@Brunch” clip is something the media never shows you, but something that’s very real and present every day here in Boystown: the ease in which urban, gay men conjure true evil and aim it at conservatives and Christians (and their special needs children).
Budlong was so quick to take a hit at little Trig because he and his friends most likely do this sort of thing all the time. It comes so naturally for these guys to be this cruel, because cruelty towards others is a part of their daily lives. There is a whole generation of gay men typified by the “Only@Brunch” bullies who came of age taking their cues from Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper, Chris Matthews, Tim Russert, and the monsters who write on The Daily Kos and Democratic Underground.”Comedians” like Kathy Griffin, Sandra Bernhardt, Margaret Cho, Bill Maher, and others further stoke this hate and encourage gay people to viciously attack conservatives and Christians whenever possible.
Here’s something you can do today to help put an end to this behavior.
Please ask your friends, especially those with special needs people in their lives, to do the same.
Be professional and mature in your remarks, but please let Jared Hall, Jesse Budlong, Bradley Thomas Balof, Terrence Chappell, Craig Rathwell, and Brian Felder know their behavior is unacceptable and their decision to go ahead and air a pilot containing the mocking of Trig Palin was reprehensible.
Not only did none of these people stop Budlong’s remark while cameras were rolling, but none of them called for a reshooting of that segment minus the hatred directed at a toddler.
As a gay man living here in Boystown, I demand better of this from the gay community.
And I ask your help in getting this message across to the “Only@Brunch” bullies.
Please voice your comment here, and post on this thread what you said when you’ve done it.
Thank you, on a very personal level, as someone who just can’t stand to see people with special needs abused by gay bullies.
Why it’s important to call out bullies who attack those with special needs – and why it’s especially important to defend Trig Palin from any and all attackers
Yesterday, I wrote an expose on the Chicago gay talk show “Only@Brunch”, hosted by Jared Hall with co-hosts Bradley Thomas Balof, Jesse Budlong, Terrence Chappell, Craig Alexander Rathwell, and Brian Felder because their broadcast not only included the stereotypically catty and low-information attacks on conservative and Christian women (like Congresswoman Michele Bachmann and Governor Sarah Palin) that much of America expects from the gay community (as shameful as this reality may be), but really crossed a line of poor taste by mocking Trig Palin, a special needs toddler (pictured above), who is happily living his life and bringing great joy to all around him (mercifully oblivious to the childish hatred aimed at him by some vocal members of Chicago’s Boystown gay community).
The expose dealt with how shamefully the “Only@Brunch” boys behaved, and how terrible and ugly the gay community is for mocking someone with special needs.
Today, however, I want to focus on Trig and the millions of people in the world like him and just how wonderful and beautiful they really are.
