It would be interesting to see what the other 49 state governors are saying on this issue, because whatever money Obama is handing out for high speed rail is dwarfed by how much states would have to pay every year in the future to subsidize these ventures.
When Democrats talk about these pie-in-the-sky programs, they treat them as one-time deals, when in reality states will go bankrupt supporting trains the public does not want to ride, and will not want to ride, no matter what the White House does.
There are people who seriously believe Obama is trying to destroy the airline industry in an effort to push people onto trains…but before they’d get on trains, those passengers would drive themselves great distances in their cars.
If Obama then went after cars, people would either stay home and not travel at all…or they would get super creative and start looking into bringing dirigibles back.
They will decide, en masse, to discover a new and previously-unknown love of Amtrak precisely ten minutes after they all convert willingly to the metric system.
I’m curious to see which governors are speaking the plain truth about this and acknowledging the obvious reality here.
Has anyone ever seen this collected into one place before?
Making a chart with all of the governors’ opinions on high speed rail construction would be an interesting starting point for educating the public at large about what’s going on.
Spiderman the Musical should have starred Anna Nicole Smith and Barack Obama. It is THAT much of a train wreck.
I’ve been following Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark for some time, believing it would become the biggest disaster New York theater has seen since my friend Robby’s sister Ann-Louise starred in her off, off, off, OFF Broadway stage production of “Jennifer Slept Here”, a “re-interpreting” of the old Ann Jillian laffer from the 80s.
My ex Jacobi, a trained ballet dancer, auditioned for the show when they had regional tryouts, and today maintains that if HE had been cast in the lead, the show wouldn’t be having all the massive problems it’s suffered because HE would have been able to handle it all.
I also have found Spiderman fascinating because it’s such a spot-on metaphor for the Obama presidency.
The show’s creative team involves Bono, someone calling himself “The Edge”, and Julie Taymor. Two of these people were last relevant when I was still in high school and the other one’s the woman behind the stage production of ‘The Lion King”. Together, this trio has more ego than real talent.
Bono, like Sean Penn, is a grizzled media darling in sunglasses celebrated by the Left perpetually because he’s always willing to stand in front of a TV camera and yammer on about whatever cause du jour Hollywood press agents want to push. Also like Penn, he’s clearly an idiot…with a microphone…and a press that’s forever willing to put him on the cover of a magazine or give him a segment on Entertainment Tonight to go on about this, that, or the other.
Bono is no relation to, nor was ever married to, Cher, however, and was never a Member of Congress, either.
The adulation heaped on Bono and his involvement in the Superman Broadway show has been ridiculous, because just about every song he and U2 have ever written sounds essentially the same. I suspected his Spiderman songs for Broadway would be unmemorable, which they’ve proven to be, and that Taymor’s sets and costuming would be fantastic (which they are), but that the show would be a disaster because it promised too much of the impossible and would be grounded by reality and basic physics in the end…which is has been.
That’s where the Obama similarities really come in.
On top of the unwarranted media praise and the celebrity adulation, Obama’s campaign back in 2008 promised “A Golden Age of Hope and Change” where Obama would personally “lower the oceans, fix the hole in the ozone layer, heal the planet, and fix our broken souls”. It’s 2011, and none of that has happened. If you are still sitting by your mailbox waiting for the unicorn Obama promised you, then you have only yourself to blame. While the “Obama money” did come for the people involved in the Pigford Black Reparations looting of the Treasury (see www.BigGovernment.com for ongoing coverage the Media’s embargoing), anyone who believed Obama would pay their mortgage, gas bill, car note, etc. was sadly mistaken.
This is similar to the fools who believed Bono, Taymor, and “The Edge” could create a spectacular Broadway show that rivaled the computer-generated Spiderman movies in terms of high-flying, gravity-defying stunts. Tens of millions of dollars were stupidly dumped into a bottomless money pit to design and build the elaborate union-directed infrastructure of this production…and so far three or four people have come close to being killed because nothing works like it is supposed to.
That reminds me a lot of the Obama Trillion Dollar Stimulus that was supposed to create jobs for everyone and take unemployment back to manageable levels, and instead was just a colossal raid on the Treasury that benefitted only unions and Democrat cronies with special pork barrel projects on the books for decades, which finally gained funding under Obama.
This president, much like the people behind Spiderman, has no clue what he is doing, but he keeps spending massive amounts of money with great media fanfare until the day in 2012 when voters will put a stop to this madness.
As for Spiderman on Broadway, just about everyone who’s been following the disaster seems to feel it’s going to end in an actor’s death. The egos of everyone involved prevent them from pulling the plug on this disaster. Opening night keeps moving back further on the calendar because the stunts just don’t work, the story is terrible, and the music is bad.
It’s like watching Anna Nicole Smith stumble around in the last year of her life, knowing full well she was going to overdose at some point, but being unable to do anything that would talk sense into the people around her so they could help her.
Or, like watching what Obama and the Left are doing to this country, every day, but feeling powerless to stop it.
One of my favorite sites, LittleMissAtilla, posted the video above, which spoofs Bono and the Spiderman musical. If you’re a fan of The Animaniacs TV show from the 90s, you’ll be surprised to learn the young men who made the Spider-spoof are the sons of the creative force behind that cartoon, and were actually, as toddlers, the inspiration for some of the Animaniacs minor characters.
Something very terrible is going to happen during a Spiderman performance, and afterwards everyone will have to admit it could have all been prevented if only people had been more vocal about pulling the plug on this disaster before it happened.
I’m really glad LittleMissAtilla ran this spoof today, because I realize I have the exact same sense of prescient dread when I look at Obama’s performance in the White House. I think I am not alone in knowing something really bad is also looming for America at large, but too few people out there are vocal enough to admit what an unmitigated disaster ‘The Golden Age of Hope and Change” has been.
Only the Broadway producers behind Spiderman can yank the show before someone is fatally injured in these poorly designed stunts…and only voters in 2012 can put an end to the Obama presidency before so much damage is done to this country under Leftist control that no stunt imaginable can put us on the right track again.
MORE Obama quid pro quo: GE paid back for MSNBC’s propaganda support with exemptions from global warming rules
This is no surprise for anyone who’s followed this administration’s habit of giving exemptions and other special favors to companies, unions, and other entities that support Obama and serve as de facto arms of his political machine.
GE — which until recently owned the networks of NBC — has been given exemption from job-killing global warming rules Obama’s EPA has issued, in an end run against Congressional authority.
GE served as Obama’s propaganda machine during the 2008 election, by turning over NBC, MSNBC, and its other networks to nonstop fawning coverage of all things Obama.
The quid pro quo on this deal was that once elected Obama channeled massive infusions of stimulus money to GE, and is now further rewarding the company for its service by exempting GE from the global warming rules.
Just more evidence of how business is done in this administration.
So far, I’m incredibly impressed with Jim DeMint’s efforts in the Senate to force this Obamacare Repeal Vote.
He’s even managed to get Miss Lindsey Graham to go along with it. That means Graham is scared of being primaried and defeated in 2012 unless he does what his constituents want and repeal Obamacare.
I’m most interested in seeing what Democrats like Claire McCaskill do with this, though. She and other vulnerable Democrats can defeat DeMint’s repeal if they all stick together, the way Democrats did on Christmas Eve 2009 when they voted for Obamacare in the first place (without even reading the bill first). But, if she and the others do that, against the will of their constituents, they can kiss their re-elections goodbye.
Obama will veto this bill, of course, but let him.
That veto will be just another albatross around his neck next year.
If Republicans were smart, they’d force endless votes on Obamacare repeal between now and 2012 so that people like McCaskill have to keep falling on their swords for Obama again and again and again, alienating their constituents further each time.
If the Cocktail Party GOP establishment doesn’t sabotage these efforts, Democrats could be forced to keep doing this, with Obama vetoing these bills again and again, for the next year and change.
QUESTION: Have you seen how many entities have received Obamacare waivers? Complete list of all approved released by Department Health Human Services
You really need to spend some time looking at this, to make it real. I guarantee you will be furious, so take your blood pressure medicine or have a little wine first, because it’s maddening.
Since the list is alphabetical, “24 Hour Fitness” jumps out first, in terms of favored companies the White House has exempted from Obamacare.
Then there are the unions Democrats want to reward for their support.
Then there’s whole towns Democrats need to keep voting Democrat.
It’s sickening to see just how many votes Democrats are trying to gain in 2012 by handing out these Obamacare waivers like Valentine’s Day candy.
Obamacare waivers to favored companies and unions now exceed 729, plus four states vital to Democrats
How can Democrats argue Obamacare is any good if so many unions and Democrat-supporting companies have been exempted from it?
On top of that, four entire states vital to Obama’s re-election have been exempted as well.
What’s shaping up here is a scheme where Democrats punish red states, small businesses, and people they don’t like in general by forcing the Obamacare burden on them, essentially making them cover a disproportionately high cost for this nightmare while making sure Democrat loyalists are rewarded for voting Democrat.
Isn’t this how things worked in the Soviet Union?
Yesterday, Justin had to go to Ford City Mall to return something his parents had bought him from there. It’s a crumbling, almost abandoned mall in Cicero, near Midway Airport. 90% of the shoppers there are black. One cashier we spoke with called it “the mall white people used to go to”.
I was stunned to find the above grafitti carved into a partition wall in the men’s room.
If this had been Man’s Country in Andersonville, Globe Magazine reports would have given that a whole other meaning…but in this part of Chicago it seems to mean that while black support for Obama remains at a stunning 90%, not everyone is still rolling on the hopeychange bandwagon in Chicago’s black neighborhoods.
If people think Obama sucks enough to take the time to carve that into the wall of men’s room, instead of a dirty limerick or a something else ribald, then there’s real anger out there against him manifesting itself in these little ways.
Have you noticed anything like this where you live too?
His ratings are down 11% from last year on a night when no counterprogramming explains that loss and all major broadcast and the cable networks all dutifully carried the speech.
He’s down 18% from 2009 for those counting.
What do you think that means?
For those of you who listen to him speak, how do you do it?
I mean that.
I am surprised he only had the 11% drop. His voice and repetitious speech pattern are just so grating. Those of you who can sit through large chunks of him droning are marvels to me.
