Poor Nancy. Apparently she had a birthday party for her beloved child, Obamacare, and none of the important people showed up (including the media).
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s not hiding under her desk— she held another press conference Thursday morning to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the health care law next week.
The only thing missing were the heavy hitters.
When the Democrats were pushing health care reform through Congress, Pelosi was always surrounded by a cast of all-stars at the big press conferences. The rest of the leadership was there, as were Rep. John Dingell of Michigan — who had gaveled the passage of Medicare in 1965 — and Henry Waxman of California, who steered the Affordable Care Act through the Energy and Commerce Committee past roadblocks from centrist Democrats.
Thursday, Minority Whip Steny Hoyer was nowhere to be found. Neither was Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, the third-ranking Democrat among House leadership. There was no Waxman. And Dingell, who sat smiling beside President Barack Obama at the signing ceremony one year ago, was gone too.
Instead, Pelosi was flanked by rank-and-file Democrats like Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin and G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina — just like the previous anniversary event she held a week ago. She did have doctors in white lab coats, and people telling their stories of insurance company hassles over pre-existing conditions.
Well….it looks like she has planned another party this week so that “everyone” can be sure to be there.
I bet after she was humiliated last week, she jumped on her broom and charged down the halls of Congress demanding that all her underlings clear their calendar so that they can surround her and heap praise upon her.
Four of every ten rows of corn are currently (and stupidly) wasted as ethanol additives in gasoline.
This makes the gasoline less effective, wears on the motor, causes more pollution, and requires more fossil fuels to be used in the whole process because the machines used to plant, tend, and harvest the corn all run on — wait for it — GASOLINE.
Ethanol is a giant scam cooked up to enrich agribusiness and make Iowa voters happy.
Since Iowa is the first presidential nominating contest, and the Media loves the idea of ethanol, the Cocktail Party GOP establishment pushes ethanol even more than Democrats do.
Bad science and political motivations are 100% behind this.
Newt Gingrich is one of the biggest offenders. There is actually footage of him and Nancy Pelosi sitting on a couch together, outside of Congress, talking about how much the two of them love ethanol.
If only they’d both start drinking it together, too.
Jay Leno’s goof on Nancy Pelosi passing gavel to John Boehner. And, no, violence against women is never funny, even if it’s Nancy Pelosi
Here’s the video Jay Leno ran of Nancy Pelosi passing the gavel to John Boehner, relinquishing her role as Speaker.
As satisfying as it is to live in a world where Nancy Pelosi is no longer in the presidential line of succession, violence against women is never funny.
At Sidetrack here in Boystown, on comedy night Thursdays, the VJ regularly plays what appears to be a Sidetrack homemade video that compiles clips from various horror movies through the years…with people’s eyes being gauged out, bodies being split in two, heads exploding, and blood gushing everywhere. At the end of this violence spree, Sidetrack’s shows an image of Governor Sarah Palin, asking viewers how great they think it would be if those things were done to the Governor.
Of course, being Boystown, where 98% of the guys unthinkingly do whatever the Left tells them and revel in misogyny at every available opportunity, the bar erupts in cheers.
It’s never funny to see a woman be smacked in the head with a large hammer…whether you like that woman or not, she’s someone’s mother.
She was a terrible Speaker. She is a bad Congresswoman. She is a bad person. But, it’s not funny to see her beaten upside her head.
Just as it’s cringe-inducing and stomach-turning to watch the misogynistic, anti-woman, attack videos Sidetrack plays against Governor Palin.
On “comedy night”.
Would hate to see what these people called tragedy.
Steven Spielberg is one of the most out-of-touch Leftists in Hollywood…and he has been surrounded by YES-men and women for the last 30 years, who tell him everything he does is magic, spot-on perfect, and exactly what needs to be done. He receives nothing but nonstop praise from the media, regardless of what he does, or how stupid it is. He’s the white Will Smith. Who is, himself, the black Barack Obama.
For the Democrat party to survive longterm, the last thing it needs is Steven Spielberg advising it on brand management.
Spielberg’s part of the chorus that doesn’t believe Democrats have gone far ENOUGH to the Left…and he also believes that Hollywood should dictate what Americans think and believe.
Nancy Pelosi thinks all of these same things herself. Or, she would, if she had a functional brain and was not, as we all well know, just running off Botox fumes.
Pelosi and Spielberg, together, will do more damage to Democrats than Pelosi has been doing alone.
No matter what these two come up with, it’s guaranteed to alienate those in this country who feel Democrats are too Leftists…because a Pelosi-Spielberg endeavor will appeal to the Hollywood, urban, elite set (the shrunken Democrat base), as the expense of the “bitter clinging Midwesterners” the new Obama Democrat Party so shuns.
This is fabulous news.
If you thought Christmas came early when Pelosi was made Minority Leader, then you’re getting THREE Christmases this year!
Merry Christmas again, three days early!
Nancy Pelosi tells Obama to go to Hell. Obama tells Pelosi he is already there. "Look who I am married to".
A lot of this article by Ulsterman is junk.
For starters, he thinks Steny Hoyer is a moderate, when in fact he is a proud Leftist. He is just smart and politically astute enough – unlike Pelosi – to not let people know how crazy he really is.
Then there’s this nonsense about Pelosi being in the fight of her life.
Pelosi’s allies are the far Left, who survived 2010 in gerrymandered Leftist enclaves immune from challenges no matter what Pelosi does. Her enemies are the blue dog Dems who were wiped out in the November 2nd extinction level event.
So, the only Democrats left in Congress are those who love Pelosi and want her to do even more crazy things.
How is that bad for her?
I do think Pelosi will spend the next two years in open war with Obama, though.
She’s apparently saying he can go to Hell, which I believe.
But, if you are married to Michelle Antoinette, isn’t your concept of Hell pretty damn relative?
As in, the proud of her country for the first time in her adult life woman you are related to by marriage?
MISCHIEF: How can we goad Nancy Pelosi to stay on as House Minority leader so she can continue to damage Democrats from within?
This is unexpected, unless you have been a serious student of Nancy Pelosi, the woman, the thinker, the warrior…who is poised it seems to cling to power.
This is a great thing, because Pelosi is insane and a recognizable face only 8% of Americans have a positive opinion of…which is amusing because there’s 20% Leftists in the population, so 12% of THEM don’t like her either.
Pelosi, as the article notes, was always at war with the blue dog Dems…but they have all been wiped out. There is no one left to oppose her as Minority Leader.
This is great because she now has a serious axe to grind against Obama and could do him a great deal of damage if she remained in Dem leadership.
The other day we ran a satire piece imagining Pelosi returning to her vineyard, Falcon Crest, and taking up falconing full time to use those raptors in a new career as a supervillain.
As fun as that would be…even better is the thought of an angry and bitter Pelosi, still smarting from her loss of gavel (and Air Force Three) that she chooses to lash out at the White House and humiliate our illustrious current president.
Just imagine his life then:
Hillary Clinton plotting against him at Foggy Bottom.
Sarah Palin tossing ninja stars at him on Facebook that cause his whole agenda to crumble.
And now Nancy Pelosi in the House, just f@#$ing with him, for fun, just ’cause.
Can you even wrap your head around the thought you might have to cheer something Nancy Pelosi does?
That was our point the other day: the woman has skills. She is a persuasive and formidable leader. Unbalanced, insane, and destructive…but creative, unstoppable, and commanding.
Just imagine that being aimed at Obama and the remaining Democrats in Congress.
It could be so epic popcorn sales will shoot through the roof. The entertainment value of it all will be blockbuster.
We need to help make this happen. Pronto.
We need to nudge her to run for minority leader and for her Leftist caucus to elect her.
The amount of harm she will do to Obama and Democrats is unmeasurable, just by being her charming self.
I don’t like Nancy Pelosi very much on a personal level.
I don’t think she did a good job as Speaker from the perspective of an American citizen doing the best for the nation in total.
But, I do respect the woman’s accomplishments and believe she honestly thought, in most matters, she was doing what SHE thought was best at the time. I have no way of knowing if she was operating from a place of love for this country, or if it was always just about the party for her, but I don’t think she is an evil woman.
I think she has mental problems, but those are not her fault. She has some kind of damage in her brain that makes her behave the way she does, and for whatever reason, despite all her millions and her plush Congressional health package, she’s never had that treated. This should not be held against her.
But, I think we all need to pause a moment and look at how truly remarkable Nancy Pelosi is — with no snark and sarcasm intended.
“Remarkable” is not necessarily a praising word, just as “interesting” in Chinese idioms isn’t a compliment, but a curse, since hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, and other disasters are “interesting” in the sense they are the yang to boring’s yin.
Nancy Pelosi’s tenure as Speaker was an interesting time for America. That is as diplomatic as I can refer to it.
But, I remember when she was elected Speaker in 2006, back when I was still a lifelong dyed in the wool Democrat. I was elated to have a female Speaker of the House, and to see a woman get that much closer to the presidency.
Conservatives might not think this is as big of a deal as I do, because I was raised Democrat and so I’m thus more attuned to identity politics than most of you might be. Maybe that’s why I always try to find strong female candidates to run for office, who are better than the men around them, because it’s a nation that’s 51% female yet women lag mightily in terms of representation. That’s wrong, in my opinion, and I want to see that changed.
Like her or hate her, Nancy Pelosi forever changed Congressional history by becoming our first female Speaker. And she was no wilting violet holding that gavel.
You have to admire her toughness, even while criticizing her reckless tactics and zeal to push the Left’s agenda.
But, still, that toughness is amazing to me. The woman is made of steel, coated largely with botox these days, but it’s hardend steel underneath. She was a tough Speaker who herded her charges effectively for her aims. While I didn’t like the things she was doing, I always marveled at how masterfully she was able to strong-arm, blackmail, bully, and cajole House members to commit career and political suicide for her…believing her promises that she’d keep them safe and protect them when the public angrily struck back.
Think about that.
Anyone with a brain in their head would have seen the public’s anger in 2009 over the Obamacare bill…just by watching what happened in Town Hall meetings all across the country over the prospects of tanking our economy with this unconstitutional monstrosity.
You have to admire the abilities of a woman who could call grown men and women into her office and make them forget what their own constituents were telling them. The woman must have magical powers, because if I was a member of Congress, serving at the pleasure of the voting public, and I attended a Town Hall where angry mobs screamed at me and burned my image in effigy like it was Paris, 1789 and I was living at Versailles, I sure as Hell would not have voted for Obamacare.
Just look at what happened to all those Obamacare supporters. They were wiped out. Nancy Pelosi is personally responsible for the extinction of the so called Blue Dog in Congress. However she did it, this vineyard-owning, Chanel-wearing, perfume-drenched, limousine Leftist from San Francisco charmed every fool who went to bat for Obamacare…and ended up as cannon fodder in Pelosi’s agenda.
I could never have pulled that off. Could you?
Could Dennis Hastert have marshalled Republicans towards mass suicide like that? Could Newt Gingrich or Tip O’Neil have done it?
True, admiring Nancy Pelosi’s control over Democrats as Speaker is akin to praising Jim Jones for getting so many people to drink his Kool-Aid or Obama for mesmerizing the masses in 2008 with his own special flavor as well.
But, I just have to give credit to where it is due: and Nancy Pelosi was an effective Speaker when looking directly at her aims, the job her party wanted her to do, and her astonishing success rate in these regards.
I’ve met Pelosi on two occasions at the various political events I go to. In person, she’s distracted, plastic, and every bit the stereotypical politician. She’s VERY California, which is something I don’t particularly like, and shakes your hand and looks at you in a condescending way that reveals how much she resents having to talk to anyone on your level, who should be bringing her drinks or appetizers silently and not standing in line to speak to her…because she is that important.
But, I will tell you, the woman is memorable. I will never forget the times I’ve seen her in person. I’ve met many, many people in this life, including many members of Congress, and I can’t recall most of them. One of the times I met Pelosi was in 2004 or so and I had no idea who she was, but never forget her face, her name, or that she was going to be very important in the future.
Like her or not, the woman is unforgettable.
And she sure is interesting.
I’m happy she will lose her gavel so she can do no more harm to the country, but I’m also happy the first female Speaker of the House was someone as tough as nails who got her job done. I want the next Speaker to be someone who works hard every day not for the Democrat Party, or the Republican Party, but for the American people. I’d love the next female Speaker to be Michele Bachmann or someone like her…and become the anti-Nancy Pelosi.
But, frankly, I love that Pelosi set the bar so high for our expectations of what a female Speaker should be. No wilting violet. No meek and timid token appointment. She was brassy and bold and large and in charge and I love that. It’s just such a shame she wasn’t a conservative force to be reckoned with, because just imagine an alternate reality where instead of pushing Obamacare and declaring war on our military Nancy Pelosi was a GOP Speaker and decimated the Left by using her formidable skills to wage all-out-war on Democrats.
Wouldn’t you have loved the woman then?
If so, you need to take a step back and respect her skills as a foe…if you would have been so thrilled to have her as an ally.
Politics is blood sport fueled by intense emotions that cloud virtues like charity and blind too many of us to the human beings at the center of the typical chaos. Nancy Pelosi truly spent her time as Speaker enthroned in the center of a hurricane, commanding an interesting time for the nation. She is flawed, seemingly mentally unbalanced, and possessed of poor judgment…but the woman is tough and good at what she does.
So, I thank Nancy Pelosi today for her service as Speaker. I thank her for being an example of what a strong woman can accomplish in a male-dominated institution, regardless of what I think of her results. I acknowledge she produced results, in spades.
I wish her great luck with whatever she does for the rest of her life, but I am thrilled she will no longer get the indulgance of flying around on her own Air Force Three, shuttling her many friends and family members to and from San Francisco like she’s Jane Wyman on Falcon’s Crest.
Go back to your vineyard, Madame Speaker. Retire. Enjoy your land, your chardonnay, your falcons if you have some. If you don’t, then get some. Order Louis Vuitton falconing gloves and train your birds to take wing with the same efficiency you trained your pet Congress critters in Washington.
Hell, become a Penguin-esque supervillain and use your birds to terrorize San Francisco with elaborate ornithological jewel heists as your new hobby, if that’s what you want…because, really, it’s what I’m going to picture you doing in your retirement anyway.
And the simple fact that you sure as Hell did things YOUR WAY and were a major force to be reckoned with for your four years as Speaker.
Kudos to that.
But, now don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your way out.
I am writing to give you a ground report on the 5th District in Georgia. It is the race between John Lewis (D) and Fenn Little (R). You all might remember John Lewis as the one who was holding Steny Hoyer’s hand during that disgusting march to the capital to sign the Obamacare bill. He was walking shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Pelosi. The Hillbuzz essay on that event is one of my favorites and still makes me laugh (here’s the link to that essay http://hillbuzz.org/2010/03/22/why-is-steny-hoyer-carrying-a-purse-and-holding-this-mans-hand/) . I actually live in the 6th district; my representative (the most wonderful Dr. Tom Price) is so popular that he is running unopposed. I work in the 5th district so am pretty familiar with what’s going on and I have joined Fenn Little’s campaign so I have a pretty good idea of what’s happening. A quick bio on Fenn: he’s a family man (with a lovely wife and 2 daughters) a practicing civil right’s attorney who was a former business owner.
First, let me explain the dynamics of the 5th district. It covers a pretty large area and is economically and culturally very diverse. It starts in the northern suburbs of Atlanta (which tend to be wealthier) and ends in the southern part around the Atlanta Airport (much more blue collar). The district encompasses the entire city of Atlanta which is primarily black as is most of the southern part of the district.
Here is what has happened over the past few months. First, I will say that very little media attention has been given to this race. I think that most people feel that it is a forgone conclusion that Lewis will win since he has been re-elected so many times. He is a career politician that has been in office for 24 years and rarely comes back to Georgia to visit his constituents. He’s incredibly egotistical but a lot of people are catching onto this and are starting to talk about needing a change. I work in the northern part of the district in the Chastain Park area and I can tell you that I have only seen Fenn Little signs and absolutely no mention of John Lewis. If you take a look at Fenn’s event calendar, he is out and about every single day at “meet and greets” all over the district. Since the district is so large, his campaign has organized into mini campaigns strategically located with several campaign offices headed up by campaign “captains”. They are running their own Fenn Little campaigns in their areas and they are working their butts off. I spoke to Fenn’s wonderful wife Ruth yesterday and she said that one thing they are worried about is voter apathy, particularly in the northwest section. Part of this may be from the fact that not a lot of focus has been given to this campaign. The local Atlanta (liberal) media has been very quiet probably because they want things to stay the same as they have been for the past 24 years. John Lewis is a democratic dinosaur who really needs to be brought back to Georgia.
One of the big campaign issues is of course spending. Recently, John Lewis secured 47 million dollars of tax payer money (TARP money I believe) so that Atlanta can begin a streetcar project. The project will cost upwards of 72 million so the rest of the money will come from Georgia taxpayers. This is the most ridiculous project we could have at this time because our public transportation system (MARTA) is going bankrupt and has had to cut many of the routes and trains. They have also had to raise the cost of the tickets. This money that Lewis is so proud of securing should be spent on the struggling system that we already have in place. It’s so irresponsible.
One last thing…..Fenn Little has repeatedly requested to debate John Lewis but the Lewis offices have ignored the requests. They won’t even acknowledge the requests. Lewis is scared right now and doesn’t want to face the tough questions about his strong support of Obamacare or the fact that he has an ultra liberal stance on immigration (very pro amnesty).
I will try to get campaign updates from the different campaign captains around the district and keep you posted. The 5th district of Georgia desperately needs Fenn Little to represent them. Lewis has been in Washington far too long and needs to go.
This is what we keep telling you the GOP needs to do — blend what’s popular in pop culture into politics so that a conservative message can hit the Democrats in a way that regular, television watching Americans will listen to.
This ad is fluff — in a good way. It makes people remember some of the arrogant and unattractive things Barney Frank, Barbara Boxer, and Nancy Pelosi have said in recent years.
The ad’s not a touchdown, but it’s a base hit or a scrum or something.
Hey, we’re gay too, so we get lost in the sports analogies.
So, we guess it’s like playing the GLEE version of “Get Happy” at Sidetrack on Showtunes night when the crowd really wants to hear the Barbara/Judy original — good, but just shy of great.
Here’s another article where Nancy Pelosi claims she’s winning, and that Democrats will retain the House, and her Speakership, because the country loves them, and her, so much.
I don’t know of a single person who believes this nonsense, apart from Pelosi herself.
But, you really need to give the Devil her due in certain areas, because Pelosi’s remarkable Speakership will go down in history for reasons apart from her being our first female Speaker (and the closest, yet, that anyone without a Y-chrome has gotten to the Oval Office).
Nancy Pelosi, for all her weird ticks, faults, and personal insanity, somehow managed to convince career politicians to throw away their careers and future employment possibilities on utter folly.
Have you ever stopped to think about how remarkable that is?
“Remarkable” is a word much like “interesting” that can mean different things depending on where you’re coming from. One of the inside-jokes of the fortune-cookie-writing industry is the little slips that say “May you live always in interesting times”. As you’re digesting your kung pao whatever and General Tsao’s this or that, you might be tempted to think that’s a lovely bit of magic in your hard as a rock, plastic wrapped dessert. But in Chinese idioms “interesting times” actually mean periods of flood, famine, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, you name it. Can’t get much more interesting than nation-destroying natural disasters.
Pelosi’s Speakership has been “remarkable” in much the same way.
in the three-plus years she’s held that gavel Pelosi has accomplished the near-impossible: she has destroyed Democrats as a brand for a generation.
This she did not do alone, of course. Howard Dean and Donna Brazile helped back in 2008, when they pushed Obama for the Democrats’ presidential nomination knowing he would delegate almost all responsibilities to Pelosi and her merry band of thieves in the House, preferring instead to enjoy the perks and vacation time of the presidency to actually working late at night concerning himself with legislation (does anyone here believe, for even an instant, that Hillary Clinton would have abdicated the healthcare bill to Congress and allowed Democrats to vote on it without her even reading it?).
Harry Reid was the perfect gender-bending Bonnie to Pelosi’s large-and-in-charge criminal Clyde, doing whatever he could to back Pelosi’s crime spree in the Senate, doing to the Constitution what those two rampaging hoods did to banks across America with their machine guns.
The American lamestream media covered for Pelosi wherever it could, enabling her destruction, and giving her the opportunity for her to be so remarkable by making sure little criticism of anything Democrats did was ever allowed in the dinosaur Old Media.
Pelosi has achieved the remarkable feat of getting every single Democrat in the House of Representatives to essentially come out AGAINST the will of the voting public and to stand in complete opposition to what the people who sent them to Washington want.
I lose sight of this sometimes, focusing on how stupid these Democrats are, and how myopic the DNC has been in ignoring the fact that tens of millions of Americans who were once loyal Democrats, like myself, now refuse to even think about voting Democrat again in their lifetimes.
But, SOMEONE had to convince these people to commit political suicide and destroy the Democrat brand.
That someone — and you need to give her credit — was Nancy Pelosi.
A woman the press has never called “polarizing” (because that’s a pejorative reserved for either conservative women, or Democrats like Hillary Clinton that the Left hates) was the most polarizing and remarkable Speaker of the House in history, that I’m aware of, because she has done so much to destroy her own party.
This won’t become evident to many people for years to come, but I think I’m ahead of the curve in calling it.
The Media might never admit this, but when Democrats keep failing to win back Independents, Jacksonian/Reagan/Clinton Democrats, and the working class in the 2012, 2014, 2016, and even 2022 elections, it’s going to be clear to a great many people that everyone alive and voting-age today will remember Pelosi’s time as Speaker and will be so horrified at the thought of a repeat of her remarkable performance that they just won’t vote Democrat ever again.
Pelosi was the Speaker who gave the Left the push it needed to truly reveal itself, for all the Communists and Marxists to let their masks slip and show their true, red colors. Because she was so crazy, and so unashamed of her mental illness, other Democrats around her decided it was okay for them to be openly insane as well. It reminds me of a steam room in a gym, the kind where Rahm Emanuel goes to scream at people, where normally guys hang around in their wet, uncomfortable towels until one ballsy guy comes and shucks the pretense and just sits there totally naked, legs apart, unashamed…and in a bit most everyone else follows, just because it feels good to be who they are, openly, without having to hide anything.
Nancy Pelosi’s remarkable Speakership allowed all Democrats in office to stand totally, stark naked before the American people and fart proudly at them with gale force gusto.
In her office, next to all her cats, Pelosi kept cans of gasoline and boxes of matches so anyone who wanted to harm the Constitution could come and get whatever they needed for the bonfire. Where, in years past, people wanting to do actual, permanent harm to the country would have been clandestine moles installed in their Manchurian positions by foreign powers forever terrified of being exposed, Pelosi established as a new norm the jubilance of gleefully ruining the economy and impoverishing tens of millions of Americans — just because Democrats could.
She reminds me of a modern-day Countess Bathory or Typhoid Mary, spreading chaos and destruction with a smile…almost as if she was some sort of GOP super-agent who spent the last hundred years slowly working her way up in the Democrat Party with the sustained and permanent goal of destroying it from within and then salting the Earth with the memory of her “remarkableness” so Americans for 30 years would never again allow a Democrat Speaker to follow her lead.
You have to give the woman this credit…on her way out…and then wait a decade or so for historians to catch up and really attribute the Democrat Party’s brand implosion largely to the actions of this one remarkable woman.
