For those of you who don’t recognize the name, Eloise Gerson is a real firecracker — the take-no-prisoners, tell-it-like-it-is, Chair of the Chicago GOP…which is a separate entity from the Cook County GOP (and the statewide Illinois GOP).
Gerson is fearless and quite often stands up to members of her own party, in addition to letting Democrats have it at every turn.
Here’s a letter she wrote to the Chicago Board of Elections in June regarding the efforts of Defend the Vote, the organization here in Illinois that’s taken up the challenge of auditing the election process in this state to expose all the hidden mechanisms of fraud Democrats have built into the processes and practices of elections.
Defend the Vote is to the Chicago Machine what Elliot Ness’ accounting friend was to Al Capone’s criminal enterprise.
None of what it does is sexy. All of it is time-consuming and governed by arcane minutia.
But it’s going to be what brings the Left down in this supposedly-blue state (that only falls into Democrat hands statewide because of Cook County’s vote tallies and one or two stolen votes in every precinct, that add up across the state to tilt elections into Democrats’ hands).
If Defend the Vote can make progress in the most corrupt of states in terms of voter fraud…just think what a similar group could do in your own state to send the Left into apoplectic fits there.
It’s a tough and long read, I know. And none of this stuff is easy to understand at first blush.
But, this is a marvelous start that’s rattling Democrats here in Illinois so much that rumor has it Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s losing sleep over Defend the Vote’s efforts. She’s certainly throwing more staff at all this than one letter from Eloise Gerson would otherwise warrant.
Things are going to get much, much more interesting with all of this as we slouch closer towards November.
The Party of Stupid is at it again in Illinois: Cocktail Party GOP establishment continues bizarre war against Hispanics
Read the article above for the latest on the Cocktail Party GOP establishment’s bizarre war on Hispanics in Illinois.
If you remember, this summer Illinois GOP state Chair Pat Brady and Cook County Chair Lee Roupas tried to remove Eloise Gerson, a Jewish Hispanic woman, from her elected position because Eloise blew the whistle on a sex scandal Brady and Roupas covered up involving the disgraced Chicago Young Republicans political social club.
That blew up in the GOP’s face, because Eloise Gerson is a Jewish Hispanic woman.
It is beyond stupid for the Cocktail Party establishment to war with any special interest group, let alone someone who is part of THREE.
Evidently, Pat Brady did not learn his lesson last summer with Lee Roupas and the CYR scandal.
If you ever wonder why Republicans lose so many winnable races in Illinois, just bookmark this page and refresh your memory.
This is incredibly disturbing news — but we have it confirmed from three separate sources.
This weekend, GOP Illinois Chairman Pat Brady – a man we have long admired, and whom we worked side by side with during the 2008 McCain campaign — has called us “a bunch of fucking faggots”.
We apologize for the use of expletives, but we have it confirmed from unimpeachable sources these are Brady’s exact words. If Brady used them in public against us, then we’re not going to give him the respect of censoring them here. If Brady has this sort of potty mouth, and hatred inside him, then we are not going to do him any favors by blunting his words now.
Just like the Obama White House does with anything bad that it does, Brady is attempting to blame the growing scandal Lee Roupas, GOP Cook County Chair, is involved in on us…and Democrats in Chicago.
Pat Brady needs to be removed from his post as IL GOP Chair. We hope you will help us in the coming week to make sure this happens. Lee Roupas should have been fired on July 16th, 2010 for lying to committeemen in an email regarding his involvement in this coverup, but Brady chose to protect Roupas, because Roupas is favored highly by multimillionare cougar Beth Christie, the woman who REALLY controls the Illinois GOP.
Language like this from a GOP Chair in any state is unacceptable. He would certainly be fired if he referred to anyone as “fucking niggers”, so calling us “fucking faggots” at an event this weekend should not be allowed either. It is beyond ridiculous to blame us for this scandal when it was Lee Roupas’ attack on truthteller Eloise Gerson that brought Brady’s house of cards tumbling down.
It’s amusing to us that Pat Brady feels this way, since we “fucking faggots”, to use his terminology, were certainly useful and good enough to be deployed for McCain campaign activities back in 2008. When we were of use to him, he lavished praise…but when we join the ever growing chorus for a detailed investigation into the conduct of Lee Roupas, Brady’s protege and protectee, we’re called “fucking faggots”.
This is not the Pat Brady we knew in 2008. This is not the Pat Brady we admired. This is a despicable man who has thrown everything he has into protecting other vile, despicable men like Lee Roupas and “The Prophet”. Illinois deserves better than this.
Ever since Eloise Gerson called for an investigation into the coverup Lee Roupas was engaged in regarding the attempted date rape allegations leveled against the Cook County GOP employee known to us as “The Prophet”, we’ve learned that Pat Brady has been industriously trying to squash this story instead of getting into the truth.
Mitt Romney’s nascent 2012 campaign, the Bill Brady for Governor, and the Mark Kirk for Senate campaigns are all involved in this…as the men who are striving to protect Lee Roupas overlap with the Romney, Brady, and Kirk teams perfectly. They are protecting their own in Roupas, and doing everything they can to destroy the people who are demanding an investigation into the truth.
They might as well be Obama Democrats, the way they are behaving.
Lee Roupas tried to force Eloise Gerson out of her position for asking for an investigation. Lee Roupas lied about when he received the information contained in the complaint against “The Prophet”, and in a July 16th, 2010 memo to GOP committeemen Roupas deliberately obfuscated and misrepresented the truth, claiming with great deceit that he did not “receive” this information until Gerson presented it.
We secured affidavits, which The Huffington Post published, that prove Roupas lied in that July 16th email. That alone should be grounds for his firing.
Ever since Gerson blew the whistle on all of this, Pat Brady has been working to save Lee Roupas — and to arrange a deal where “The Prophet” loses his Cook County GOP job, but then assumes a highly paid position as a GOP consultant here in Chicago…while maintaining his control of the Chicago Young Republicans social networking organization — which saves the Illinois GOP a fortune since “The Prophet” uses these young Republicans as non-paid campaign and office staff to support Lee Roupas.
It is the very definition of an incestuous relationship.
Behind the scenes, Pat Brady is being controlled by Beth Christie, a multimillionaire cougar who is the Illinois GOP’s #1 donor. Christie has told Brady to protect “The Prophet” and Lee Roupas at all costs, as these two young men are favorites of hers. The Illinois GOP is essentially bankrupt. Christie has been writing checks JUST large enough to keep it afloat, and to make payroll. She is VERY careful with the amounts of money she gives…always enough to keep the lights on, but never enough for the GOP to tell her to go to Hell (where she belongs), and end her control over them.
Beth Christie is the largest donor the GOP has ever had in Illinois. She knows it, and also knows she owns the party here the way she owns her many beautiful cars, her ridiculously posh residences, and all of her other toys.
This is a cougar with a vagina as insatiable as a Tatooine Sarlacc. Nothing escapes its gaping maw, and no man in the Illinois GOP, apparently, is able to stand up to whatever it desires. Take such a cougar, give it unlimited financial resources, and set it loose in the Illinois GOP and welcome to the mess we’re in now.
We are incredibly disappointed in Pat Brady today. No matter how much Beth Christie’s money and/or vagina means to the GOP in Illinois, it’s despicable that he chose to call us “fucking faggots”.
We know that politics is a bloodsport, and that it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.
But, Brady has taken zero ownership for the scandal rocking the GOP in Illinois…a scandal completely of his own making. To try to claim that “a bunch of fucking faggots is behind all of this”, and point to us, is just ridiculous.
Maybe we should have published that complaint against “The Prophet” detailing an attempted date rape upon a CYR member back in June of 2009 when we received it on July 1st, 2009. We didn’t because we thought the GOP would take care of this internally…and not promote “The Prophet” to a ridiculously high-paying position, without even bringing up the complaint in his interview, all because one lonely, sad, ridiculously wealthy cougar wanted her “Cuddles” to have a big-boy job.
Brady allowed one woman — Beth Christie — to essentially buy the Republican Party in Illinois and turn it into her personal play thing.
When Eloise Gerson, on June 11th, 2010, demanded an investigation into the dangerous frat party Lee Roupas was running in Cook County, Pat Brady worked with Lee Roupas, under the Sarlacc’s orders, to attack the truthtellers.
Lee Roupas declared open war against Eloise Gerson for bringing all of this to light. We have learned that Pat Brady approved that plan to attack Gerson, and to do anything possible to make sure the truth in all of this never came to light.
We would have never reported on any of this, if not for Lee Roupas trying to remove Gerson from her position.
So, if Brady wants to pull an Obama and blame this on anyone, he needs to look at Lee Roupas, not us.
And, while he is at it, if he wants to call anyone a “fucking faggot”, then Pat Brady needs to speak those words to Mark Kirk.
He is the absolute gayest man in any room he enters. He is the Republican Party’s Liberace. If anyone is a “fucking faggot”, to use Pat Brady’s own words, it is the closeted liar the GOP is running for the Senate in Illinois. A man who won’t come out because he’s using his reservist experience in the military as a crutch to get him elected, and admitting what a “fucking faggot” he is, to use Brady’s words, would mean he’d be discharged under DADT. This is all further complicated by the fact that hypocrite Kirk is AGAINST a repeal of DADT, when he is a gay man in uniform in the US military, actively speaking against allowing his fellow gay men and women to serve openly.
The GOP in Illinois is an absolute train wreck.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Today we begin a call for the immediate removal of Pat Brady as the Illinois GOP Chair.
We demand the removal of Lee Roupas as the Cook County GOP Chair, and the removal of “The Prophet” as the president of the Chicago Young Republicans organization.
We demand an investigation into the influence Beth Christie, and the Elizabeth K. Christie Foundation, has exerted over the GOP in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and other states in which Beth Christie has decided to cultivate, groom, and protect her dangerous boytoys.
We want the GOP to clean house…and to make Illinois an example of just how far the party will go to make sure voters have a clear, ethical, distinction between corrupt Democrats, Obama, and what the Republican Party CLAIMS it is all about.
We “fucking faggots”, as Pat Brady has called us, are never going to let this go.
We have an interview booked today with one of the Big Three networks. We are going to be talking ALL ABOUT Beth Christie and what she has done to the party in this state, as well as how it feels to be called “fucking “faggots” by someone we admired greatly.
If you do not approve of the way the Obama Administration blames all of its colossal failings on Bush, then you should not accept Pat Brady’s attempts to blame his mistakes, and the coverup Lee Roupas engineered, on Democrats…or on us here at HillBuzz.
Many of you read us in states far away from Illinois, or in foreign countries, and you might wonder what this expanding soap opera has to do with you.
It matters because cleaning up the GOP in Illinois, the most corrupt of American states, is the first step in taking back this county. Voters WANT to boot Democrats from office, but believe there is no alternative.
Pat Brady, Lee Roupas, “The Prophet”, and Beth Christie discourage Americans from supporting the GOP…because they are just as bad, if not worse, than Democrats most days.
We all deserve better.
And, on a personal note, if you object to use being called “fucking faggots” by anyone, then we ask of you — we IMPLORE YOU — as our friends to stand up for us this week and let Pat Brady and the RNC know that you are not going to sit for a GOP State Chair using this sort of discriminatory and vile language against ANYONE.
We will always respect Pat Brady for the work he did in 2008…but our opinionof him has changed irrevocably as we’ve watched him desperately cover (in ludicrous and poor fashion) for Lee Roupas in this scandal.
Roupas was supposed to be a future Congressman or Senator, and it was supposed to be “his turn” some day soon…so the Illinois GOP has been protecting him as a member of that “it’s his turn” farm team…the one Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, and the rest of that cucumber-and-mayonnaoise Soggy Sandwich Society belongs to.
But, Roupas has ended his career by lying…and getting caught…and attacking a woman who demanded an investigation into the young ladies being abused in the Chicago Young Republicans organization.
For all intents and purposes, Pat Brady has now ended his political career as well.
That breaks our “fucking faggot” hearts, but the reality is that Pat Brady was in on this coverup from the very beginning…and he must be held accountable for that if the GOP is to have any credibility at all in this state.
A little soap for his own “fucking” mouth sure wouldn’t hurt, either.
UPDATE 8/1/10 1616hrs:
Some of you have been asking how we know Pat Brady called us “those fucking faggots”. Two days ago, Brady was trying to explain to a very wealthy conservative here in Illinois why the party was imploding because of things Lee Roupas has been doing in Cook County. That conversation was relayed to us because Brady’s performance was not only so unconvincing, but was deplorable.
Brady lied repeatedly to this big donor, and said that Roupas has done nothing wrong, despite:
(1) Lying about when he received the complaint against “The Prophet” (he says it wasn’t until June of 2010, but the affidavits and emails HuffPo has posted show he knew back in July of 2009, before he hired “The Prophet”). This lie includes sending the July 16th, 2010 email to the GOP committeemen under his Chair that told them he did not receive this complaint until after June 11th, 2010 — when he knew that to be false, and did that to coverup the fact that he never launched an investigation into what “The Prophet” was doing to women…but hired him anyway, because multimillionaire cougar Beth Christie told him to.
(2) Launching a scheme to oust Eloise Gerson from her post as Chicago GOP Chair when she demanded an investigation into why “The Prophet” was never investigated for what’s written in the complaint, and why the complaint never came up in his job interview
Both of the above are reasons Lee Roupas should be fired. Yesterday.
Instead of dealing with this, Brady decided to attack the people who have brought this story forward, and that includes us (as well as Eloise Gerson…whom Brady said would be “destroyed”, and that after the November elections she would be removed from her position).
Brady told this wealthy conservative that “this is all because of those fucking faggots. They are behind all this”. Meaning us, we presume.
But, who knows, he could have meant Mark Kirk being up to something.
Or Aaron Schock.
If someone in the GOP shouts “fucking faggot” in a room, about five dozen heads would turn around. It’s like shouting the same thing at Sidetracks. Only, you’d probably get at least a cosmo tossed in your face, and more likely than not have your face pounded.
Since Brady launched his nukes, we’re going to invoke Godwin’s Law here and say that today we feel like the Jews who get blamed for all the mistakes of others and the bad decisions of people in power. Brady had a meltdown, saw his lies failing him, and finds it increasingly harder every day to justify everything he is doing to save Lee Roupas.
So, backed against the wall, with this big conservative (and rumored homophobe) demanding an explanation (and with no Jews handy), Brady decided to blame “the fucking faggots”.
We’ll note again here that we could have made trouble with this complaint back in July of 2009 if we wanted. We don’t like “The Prophet” and have dozens of reasons for wanting to see him get his just desserts. But we never reported on any of this…not until Lee Roupas tried to orchestrate the removal of Eloise Gerson for speaking out about what was going on…and then later when Roupas sent that email directly lying to his committeemen about what was happening.
So, “fucking faggots” are not to blame for any of this.
Lee Roupas is to blame for this mess.
Pat Brady is to blame for this mess, for aiding and abetting Roupas.
Beth Christie is to blame for this mess, for demanding all the quid pro quos for her mammoth donations that caused all of these problems.
Don’t shoot the messengers…especially not just because they were gay…and especially not because they are the same gays you found so useful in the past when you wanted to seem inclusive and dynamic.
Anatomy of a Scandal: Why conservatives nationwide should care about what Lee Roupas has done to the Cook County GOP
For the last week and a half, we’ve been reporting on a sex scandal and coverup rocking the Cook County GOP and the Chicago Young Republicans politically-flavored social networking club. This matter affects conservatives on a national level because it’s a case study in why Republicans continue to lose elections to Democrats, despite conservative policies remaining better for the vast majority of Americans. The reason conservatives lose is because there is something seriously wrong with the Republican Party from the bottom up. At the city, county, and state levels, the GOP is corrupt, and riddled with what we call “Romney Guys”: young, unscrupulous, protect-their-own-at-all-costs, opportunists and schemers who allow their own personal ambition and inability to accept responsibility for their actions to doom the conservative cause. Instead of acting in the best interests of conservatism, these Romney Guys are only in this for themselves, and make terrible decisions to advance their own careers as quickly as possible regardless of the damage that does to the party and the principles it advocates.
Lee Roupas, Chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, has created a distracting and damaging mess in Chicago by abusing his position to not only protect a fellow Romney Guy, but also to cater to a wealthy GOP donor who meddled in the daily operating affairs of the party at the county and city levels, much to the party’s detriment. Conservatives who wonder why the GOP so often stumbles need to pay close attention to the amount of influence large donors have on staffing decisions, particularly when those donors are interfering in hiring because they want to advance favored pets regardless of the impact they’d have on the organization.
What is happening in Chicago happens in the GOP in every city, and it’s time conservatives nationwide put a stop to it.
The Cook County GOP’s recent problems originate in June of 2009 with a complaint filed against a Board Member of the Chicago Young Republicans who tried to force himself sexually upon a young female member of the club. The complaint, copied to the national Young Republicans organization and Lee Roupas at the Cook County GOP, described the man (nicknamed “The Prophet” by members of the club, because of his chronic narcissism, profligate spending, and treatment of club members (both female and male) sexually) plying a young woman with alcohol, refusing to let her leave his apartment, taking her phone away so she could not call for help, pushing her onto a couch and sitting on her so she could not get up to leave, and not taking no for an answer. The young woman left Chicago shortly after this incident, but wanted to make sure the Chicago Young Republicans and the GOP in Chicago knew what “The Prophet” was doing to women, abusing the position of authority he had because of his prominence in the GOP-sanctioned club.
The woman was aware of similar incidents like this involving “The Prophet” and decided to make sure the GOP in Chicago knew what was going on, since GOP politicians regularly appeared at Chicago Young Republican functions onstage with “The Prophet”, fueling his ability to maintain the aura of privilege and power he needed to glamor women. Absent the credibility politicians like Aaron Schock, Bill Brady, Mark Kirk, Matt Murphy, Dan Proft, Andy McKenna, and others gave “The Prophet”, this skinny, blond, bespeckled man would lack the ability to put women in situations where he was able to victimize them. Dazzled by seeing “The Prophet” standing up on the stage, receiving warm kudos from someone like Congressman Schock, women fell for “The Prophet’s” regular lines that they needed to come back to his apartment, his VIP suite upstairs, his private office, or some other location where only they could hear all the political secrets he had to tell them, alone, because he thought they were so very special.
Essentially, the GOP in Illinois regularly gives a sexual predator the set, props, and audience he needs to do the very bad things he does to people.
The June 2009 complainant was a longtime female CYR member who saw a dangerous situation developing with “The Prophet” that the GOP in Illinois was partly responsible for, since they very much helped to create this monster and supplied him with the political mojo that kept his abuse of women going. She filed a complaint with the national Young Republicans organization and Lee Roupas at the Cook County GOP on July 1st, 2009 advising them to investigate the behavior of “The Prophet” so that women would not be seriously hurt by him. In her warning, she clearly stated her concern that what “The Prophet” did to her in his apartment on June 17th, 2009 seemed indicative of a dangerous pattern this man was engaged in — one that could lead to him keeping a woman against her will and forcing himself upon her sexually after he’d gotten her alone using his political razzle dazzle as a lure.
Since the GOP was providing this predator with his mojo, the GOP needed to stop enabling this behavior.
In July of 2009, the national Young Republican organization met in Indianapolis for its annual convention, where the complaint against “The Prophet” was circulated amongst Young Republican leadership. At the convention, several former YR members (aged out of the group after 40, but maintaining mentorship roles with the club) were given the complaint and advised of the serious situation unfolding in Chicago, where “The Prophet” was essentially swimming the YR waters like a shark, hunting for seals in this ample rookery. The YR leadership was put on notice that a predator was diligently at work in its Chicago chapter, on its board, basking in great glory provided by the Illinois GOP. This was a recipe for disaster, many agreed, and “The Prophet” received a stern talking to at the convention that put him on notice that he was jeopardizing the good name of the group by abusing his authority position to prey upon women in the club.
The former YR members who obtained the complaint against “The Prophet” at the Indianapolis convention disseminated it to a wider group of GOP confidants and advisors, with this wider circle largely befuddled on how to proceed. The Chicago Young Republicans is a politically-flavored social networking club in Chicago for young conservatives. It’s not technically a sanctioned part of the Illinois GOP and is not controlled by the Republican Party; it is, however, supported by both organizations in that the GOP supplies an endless stream of political candidates and representatives for CYR parties and events, without which the CYRs could not exist. The draw of being a dues-paying member of the club is gaining access to Senators, Congressmen, Governors, and national figures like RNC Chair Michael Steele. CYR members are attracted to the high-profile events, and the chance to further their careers by hobnobbing with such impressive luminaries, thereby winning bragging rights Monday morning when they show up at their offices with photos of themselves standing next to all of these elites.
Since “The Prophet” worked as a volunteer Board Member of an organization the Illinois GOP did not control (but funds generously, in addition to supplying the photo op star power), the excuse Republicans like Lee Roupas offer for “The Prophets’s” behavior is that “there wasn’t anything (they) could do about him”. They claim they couldn’t fire “The Prophet”, because they had never hired him, and that the Illinois GOP bore no legal responsibility for anything he did to CYR members.
But the question many in Chicago are asking this week is did the Illinois GOP bear any MORAL responsibility, since they lent their brand and star power to “The Prophet”, and it was widely known this predator depended on both to successfully lure and abuse his victims.
The Republican Party has a problem with perceptions and reality.
Too many GOP officials are bad lawyers, who went to bush league law schools, and emerged from three years of lackluster study with a myopic view of the law and the ramifications of an organization’s actions. Lee Roupas is maintaining, to this day, that the Cook County GOP cannot be held legally responsible for anything “The Prophet” did to women, and that should absolve both Roupas and the GOP from any culpability in all matters related to “The Prophet”. But, to the public at large, the line between the Illinois GOP and the Chicago Young Republicans was blurred so many times that many attendees of CYR events believed the two organizations were in fact connected, if not one and the same. Roupas shared a stage and a microphone with “The Prophet” at so many events that many members believed Roupas, in fact, worked for “The Prophet”. The Illinois GOP, however, kept listening to bad legal advice and took false comfort in the fact that, on paper, technically, according to their interpretation of the law, they had no authority to stop “The Prophet” — while in reality, the way the general public saw it, this was in fact the duty the GOP charged itself with every time the GOP built “The Prophet” up higher by pumping him, and his ego, full of star power.
In July or early August of 2009, a prominent Chicago attorney was given a copy of the complaint against “The Prophet” that circulated at the Indianapolis YR convention. Realizing how much this could damage the GOP, because of all the star power the GOP lent “The Prophet”, this attorney telephoned Lee Roupas to make sure he knew what was going on and how “The Prophet” was victimizing women in the CYR organization. On the telephone call, Roupas received in great detail all the information that was contained in the complaint. This is important to note, because in July of 2010, Roupas denied knowing about the charges leveled against “The Prophet” until June of 2010. There exists a signed affidavit from this attorney swearing that he provided Roupas with this information a full year before Roupas is owning up to (this, in fact, directly contradicts an email Lee Roupas sent to the 80 Cook County GOP committeemen on July 16th, 2010 where he swears to them that he did not “receive” the complaint until June 11th, 2010…where Roupas, acting on bad legal advice, is playing semantics with the word “received”, and not counting the telephone call he “received” in July or August of 2009 because Roupas realized he had never been given the complaint via registered mail and he believed he could legally deny being provided with a copy until a well-documented letter “received” by many members of the GOP included it).
This is where the crux of the problem rests for the GOP, and why this matter may have originated with a delusional, self-aggrandizing, womanizing “Prophet” but ends up being about the coverup and lies concocted by Cook County GOP Chair Lee Roupas.
For almost a year, the GOP in Illinois knew “The Prophet” was a problem, and that he abused his position of authority to have his way with women (and, we note, more than a few men as well). While the GOP claimed it had no ability to rein this behavior in with the CYRs, it should take responsibility for hiring “The Prophet” to a high-paying position with the Cook County GOP in December of 2009…five months AFTER the GOP was put on notice this man was a problem when the July 2009 complaint was filed.
Sometime in the summer or fall of 2009, “The Prophet” caught the eye of a multi-millionaire cougar in Chicago named Beth Christie, newly retired from the CEO suite of Avent Baby Products. Christie, seemingly bored, with more money than she knew what to do with, and an appreciation for the company of young men, became “The Prophet’s” protectress and bankroller. Running up a $50,000 tab for parties and a marketing blitz he could not pay for, “The Prophet” went to this cougar and asked her to bail him out, which she did happily by giving a lump sum to the CYRs and another large donation to the Cook County GOP, provided they loan the CYRs most of that money to pay off “The Prophet’s” debt.
In December of 2009, “The Prophet” was fired from a staff position on a political campaign when the complaint against him became an unwanted albatross as primaries drew near. Beth Christie stepped forward and made the cash-strapped Illinois GOP a deal it did not refuse: she’d write a check for $100,000 and become one of only 6 large donors to the GOP in this state, but only if “The Prophet” was given a high-paying job with the Cook County GOP under Lee Roupas.
Desperate for the money, the Illinois GOP took the deal, and “The Prophet” was hired to work as Roupas’ second in command in Cook County. Not having a college degree, and having no good references from any position he worked in, this was the only way “The Prophet” could find gainful employment.
This deal between Beth Christie and the GOP happened despite the fact Lee Roupas received the complaint against “The Prophet”, as affidavits attest, back in July of 2009. Without investigating the complaint, speaking to the victim involved, or inquiring whether other women (and men) in the CYR organization had been victimized by “The Prophet”, Roupas awarded this man a high-paying, high-profile position with the Cook County GOP organization — because Beth Christie pressured the GOP to do this, lest she develop crippling hand cramps that would prevent her from writing any more big checks.
Because of the cougar’s protection, “The Prophet” was seated on the dais next to her at every prominent event that followed, where “The Prophet” was able to suck up even greater star power, whirling on the arm of a woman who’d seemingly buy him anything he dreamed of. Roupas was there, seated on her other side, doing whatever it took for him to keep Beth Christie happy, so that she’d never put that checkbook away.
All of this came to a head on June 11th, 2010 when Chicago GOP Chairwoman Eloise Gerson obtained a copy of the complaint filed against “The Prophet” back in July of 2009. That complaint never stopped circulating (check your mailbox, your copy might arrive today), and was never investigated by the GOP, especially after Beth Christie took such a sudden and bizarre interest in the development and promotion of “The Prophet”. When Gerson read about what “The Prophet” did to the young female CYR member, she immediately contacted other women in the group and asked them about their experiences with “The Prophet”. What she discovered horrified her: this was not an isolated instance, but was rather par for the course with the man involved. Gerson was told this behavior was common for “The Prophet”, at every event the CYRs held, including many in which the GOP went out of its way to praise him, build him up, shine a spotlight on him, and give him the star power he needed to glamor the women (and men) he wanted.
Gerson called for an investigation into this complaint against “The Prophet”, as well as an inquiry into why he was hired by the Cook County GOP with this sort of reputation preceding him. “The Prophet”, it must be noted, is a college drop-out with very limited work experience. The position Lee Roupas hired him into is one that typically requires at bare minimum a Bachelor’s degree (which “The Prophet” does not possess). That requirement, and his moral failings, was deliberately ignored because Beth Christie wanted this man to have that job. Defying Christie meant losing access to her checkbook, which is something Roupas was not allowed to do.
Because Lee Roupas was so afraid of alienating multimillionaire cougar Beth Christie, he instead attacked Eloise Gerson, declaring open war on her for calling for an investigation into that complaint and the Cook County GOP’s hiring practices.
Roupas set in motion a bizarre scheme to vote Gerson out of her position and remove her as Chairwoman. When that failed, Roupas brought an ally from GOP national into Chicago and created a new position for him in the Cook County hierarchy that would usurp all of Gerson’s authority in hopes of shutting her up.
Roupas doubled-down on this coverup because, as he’s claiming to the angry committeemen he’s dealing with now that this scandal has hit the media, Beth Christie cannot be defied and he is not allowed to address the complaint or the reason he hired someone without a degree or appropriate work experience to such a high position in the Cook County GOP.
The reason voters, who may naturally be conservative, don’t trust the Republicans with their votes is because of men like Lee Roupas and the conduct of GOP county organizations like that here in Chicago.
The standard operating procedure for the GOP when faced with any problem seems to be:
(2) Ignore the problem
(4) Deny there’s a problem
(6) Coverup the problem
(8) Attack the truthtellers who exposed the problem
(10) Stonewall and wait it out, hoping people lose interest in this
Yesterday, we were told the Illinois GOP’s plan for moving forward on this is to placate Eloise Gerson until the November elections, after which they will remove her. Beth Christie has forbidden the Illinois GOP from firing her favorite Cook County employee, and Lee Roupas is a golden boy highly favored by the current Illinois GOP chair. The plan is to get everyone in the GOP to pretend none of this happened, and then after the election they’ll “take care of Eloise” so that she can’t make any more noise about this in the future. With Eloise destroyed, the Illinois GOP hopes other truthtellers will be too afraid to come forward, for fear of the same thing happening to them.
The end result is that Cook County will still be led by Lee Roupas, who has lost all credibility in his position and has proved himself to be a hack at best, and largely nothing more than a tool of a very wealthy woman who essentially uses the GOP as her own personal doll house. “The Prophet” will keep his job, too, because Beth Christie insists upon this, regardless of what damage of all this does to Republicans’ chances of winning statewide elections in Illinois. As long as Christie keeps writing those massive checks, she can have any doll she wants, and she can play with him any way she pleases.
It’s a damn shame no one has introduced Beth Christie to Craigslist, because there’s a whole section for women just like her, where she can meet men twenty years younger that won’t cost her over a hundred and twenty thousand dollars to keep gainfully employed. This is even more absurd when you consider the fact that so few large donors contribute to the GOP in Illinois (only 6 people giving $25,000 or more) that Christie overpaid for the clout she’s enjoying, dramatically so. For the amount of money she’s thrown into creating her doll house, Christie could have bought her way into the Indiana, Wisconsin, and Michigan GOP organizations as well — and could have had play time in a four state radius whenever, and wherever, whim struck her.
There are some pretty cute young dudes in Wisconsin, let us assure you. Milwaukee’s chock full of them.
Conservatives nationwide need to critically examine their own city, county, and state GOP organizations and look for the undue influence of wealthy donors like Beth Christie on the hiring, strategic, operational, and other decisions made by their local Republican Party.
What’s happening here in Chicago is important because it highlights the fact that a single multimillionaire cougar was able to jeopardize Republican chances in the fall by demanding her favorite doll receive a high-level position in the organization, in the face of her threats to put away her checkbook if she did not get her way. How many bad decisions are made by the GOP each and every day because men like Lee Roupas insist they have no choice but to do whatever crazy or stupid thing they are doing, lest they upset a Beth Christie somewhere? It’s never the initial crime (in this case, the predatory actions of “The Prophet”) that dooms Republicans, but their fumbled, bumbled lies and coverups (which always fall) that doom them.
Small dollar GOP donations — giving $5, $25, or maybe $100 — pooled together dwarf the amounts given by Beth Christie and others, but because they are thousands of small contributions made at random by unaffiliated donors, they will never carry the weight of one check written with an agenda in Chicago. One cougar’s ga-rowwwwl drowns out thousands of regular people.
The GOP’s system is clearly broken, and the way it handles problems like “The Prophet” is the clearest explanation we have ever seen for why Republicans lose so many winnable elections.
This is a center-right country of largely conservatives Americans. But, the GOP is comprised, organizationally, mainly of young, ambitious, cutthroat, “Romney Guys” who don’t see the big picture of what’s best for conservatism, only what will help them advance to the next level and make more money so they can buy more blue blazers, Brooks Brothers ties, and khaki pants. Lee Roupas clearly had a choice: to either stand up to Beth Christie and refuse to hire her “Prophet”, because the baggage he carried with his behavior was potentially damaging to the GOP…or to cave into her demands because he wanted to keep advancing his career and he knew that upsetting a large, cougarized donor was not the way for him to get ahead.
Everyone who ordered Roupas to give Beth Christie everything she wanted should be fired along with him.
The Republican Party in Illinois needs to clean house, de-cougarize, and spray for Roupas.
Small dollar donor conservatives need to band together and demand the RNC investigate this Cook County mess, and determine why, exactly, one wealthy woman was allowed to cause so much chaos by protecting one bad apple with her vast fortune.
What’s been happening here in Cook County is a chance for conservatives coast to coast to grasp what’s wrong with the Republican Party at the city, county, and state levels…so that we can use the next two years to weed out the Lee Roupases and mitigate the influence of the Beth Christies so that the likes of “The Prophet” don’t keep Republicans from beating Obama and taking back Washington in 2012.
Too much is at stake to allow the GOP to keep making the same mistakes, every day, in the same spectacular fashion, while expecting different results.
Please help spread word on what’s happening here in Chicago, and please use any contacts you have with the RNC to make sure truthtellers like Eloise Gerson are assisted in every way possible in exposing messes like this…not punished for daring to speak the truth.
FORCE THE GOP TO LEARN FROM ITS MISTAKES — AND THEN STOP MAKING THEM.
QUESTION: Will indulging millionaire cougar Beth Christie cost Republicans the governorship and Senate seat in Illinois?
As a scandal involving both the Cook County GOP and the Chicago Young Republicans metastasizes into a major problem for Republicans here in Illinois (one that candidates Bill Brady and Mark Kirk are going to have to address in the coming days, considering how many appearances they have made with embattled Cook County GOP Chairman Lee Roupas), millionaire cougar Beth Christie emerges as the unintended root of this unforced error that could very well cost the GOP what should be two easy races against terrible Democrats in the fall.
In retrospect, Republicans wondering why this all happened will trace the losses back to the overindulgence of one generous but demanding donor, whose pet projects and passions clouded better judgment and oversight from Republican leadership. Because this one large donor wrote so many checks, and forever threatened to put her checkbook away if vexed, what would have been a minor hit to Republicans in Chicago has now reached a point where Cook County Chair Roupas will be forced to resign, with candidates Brady and Kirk doing major and distracting damage control.
In a TV dramatization of everything that led to this mess, Christie would be played by Jennifer Coolidge, with direction from Christopher Guest and wardrobe by Coach. Expensive-looking, with steeled elegance, Christie is a commanding, and demanding, presence in any room she enters. “Whatever Lola Wants” loops from imaginary speakers wherever she treads. The former CEO of Avent Baby Feeding Products, Christie nursed many pet projects in Chicago GOP circles — including the development of a young blond man she took an inexplicable shine to (a man who’d become known to CYRs as “The Prophet”, because of his delusions of grandeur and cult of mostly females used heavily for his self-aggrandizing purposes). Unable to see his dark side, Christie became his personal ATM and protectress, cutting large checks to cover his extravagant expenditures with the CYRs and bailing him out when he’d overdrawn the politically-flavored social networking club’s operating accounts.
The Elizabeth K. Christie Trust made a whopping $20,000 donation to the Cook County Republican party in December of 2009, at the exact time payback of a controversial $25,000 loan to the Chicago Young Republicans was causing major roadblocks for “The Prophet” to land a job with the Cook County GOP. In what many see as a quid pro quo, Christie’s check cleared in early December, which zeroed out the balance left on the CYR’s loan, and by the end of the month Roupas hired “The Prophet” to a high-paying job as his subordinate in the Cook County GOP.
In 2009, Christie also gave over $30,000 to the RNC itself, making her the political fundraising equivalent of what casinos call “whales” in Atlantic City and Vegas. Much sought after and indulged, these donors are what really control government in this country. Politicians depend on these people to fill their election year coffers and the political parties, especially the underfunded GOP in Illinois, rely on them to keep the lights on and fund day-to-day operations. Whatever the whales want, the whales get, by and large, and not just in terms of the regular photo ops and backstage access to events that come with making the occasional sizable donation to a particular fundraising.
When someone of Christie’s giving penchant appears on the Chicago scene, the Republican Party falls over itself to keep her pleased. If she likes someone, that person becomes untouchable for all intents and purposes, because the party does not want to upset Christie and risk losing access to her generosity.
It’s not difficult at all to see where this got the GOP in trouble here in Chicago.
“The Prophet” was identified as a brewing political problem as far back as 2008, before he’d claimed a prominent position in the CYR organization, and before he’d worked for failed Lt. Governor candidate Matt Murphy or Roupas at the Cook County GOP. Unbalanced, vainglorious, and vindictive, yet exceedingly charming and bisexually attractive, “The Prophet” was fired by the Murphy campaign at the insistence of gubernatorial candidate Andy McKenna as a condition for Murphy to assume the Lt. Governor spot on McKenna’s ultimately unsuccessful bid against Bill Brady for the GOP nomination. Murphy was provided with a copy of the attempted date rape complaint filed against “The Prophet” by a young Chicago woman back in July 2009; Murphy received that complaint while he was still attempting a gubernatorial bid of his own, running with a staff comprised squarely of “The Prophet” and other young, relatively inexperienced “Romney Guys” (all veterans of the failed Romney 2008 campaign, and its subsequent off-the-radar 2012 successor). Murphy chose to ignore the complaint and keep “The Prophet” on staff, but McKenna forced “The Prophet” out, since McKenna had received a copy of the complaint in July or August of 2009 and did not want “The Prophet” to damage his own bid for the governorship once this scandal finally broke in Chicago.
It would certainly do no good with women voters in Illinois if a Republican candidate was found to have a man involved in allegations of date rape working for him, and McKenna smartly knew that.
If not for Christie’s generous check to Roupas, it’s unlikely “The Prophet” would have landed a job with the Cook County GOP, no matter how good of drinking buddies Roupas and “The Prophet” are. But, with money like that coming in from a strong and reliable supporter of “The Prophet”, Roupas had the cover he needed to bring “The Prophet” aboard.
Since the complaint against “The Prophet” kept working its way up the ranks in Republican circles, Roupas then had a ticking bomb on his hands Christie prevented him from ever getting rid of. Since “The Prophet” was a pet project of Christie’s, and he often bragged in political circles he was “untouchable” because “one word to Beth and she’ll stop writing checks”, Roupas could never fire him; the only option then, it seems, was to instead remove anyone in the Chicagoland GOP who pushed for an investigation into the complaint against “The Prophet”.
That led to the bizarre chain of events last month where Chicago GOP Chair Eloise Gerson obtained a copy of the complaint, demanded an investigation into not only “The Prophet’s” behavior but also what led to his hiring by the Cook County GOP, and was then attacked by Roupas in an attempted coup to remove her for bringing this scandal into the spotlight.
Since the Illinois GOP is so terrified of alienating millionaire cougar Beth Christie, Roupas and the rest of the Chicago GOP lot used poor judgment and went after truthtellers instead of addressing the issue it had on its hands with “The Prophet”. Absent Christie’s protection, Roupas would have most certainly let “The Prophet” go and avoided the mess he’s now in. But, whatever Lola wants, as the song goes.
As with everything else involving this cover-up, this is an educational opportunity for the GOP in Illinois, and for conservatives nationwide. It’s a chance to understand exactly WHY the GOP is so seemingly incapable of making good decisions most of the time.
It’s, frankly, because of wealthy donors like Beth Christie who wield a disproportionately large amount of power for writing so many oversized checks. Clearly an excellent businesswoman who amassed millions running a major corporation, in retirement one of Christie’s hobbies became the professional development of a young man she took some sort of shine to. Whatever glamor “The Prophet” used on her kept Christie from seeing how toxic his presence was for the GOP in Chicago. The threat of losing Christie’s largesse prevented the Chicago GOP from taking actions against “The Prophet” and forced Cook County GOP Chair Lee Roupas to engage in a Byzantine cover-up for “The Prophet” that ultimately involved declaring open war upon a respected and well-loved Chairwoman who dared to call for an investigation into alleged criminal activity and impropriety committed by a paid staffer in the Cook County GOP.
This is why all Tea Party inclined Americans need to become intimately familiar with all FEC filings and campaign contributions made by big donors like Beth Christie. These wealthy people’s agendas are not necessarily what’s best for the parties, voters, or Americans in general. Candidate who depend on millionaires like Christie to stay in office often seem to find themselves doing the opposite of what common sense and prudence would dictate, because they have put themselves in positions where these big donors are calling the shots, and dictating courses of action that counter basic reason.
This explains why Democrats are driving themselves off a cliff with a radical Leftist agenda currently: large Democrat donors are pushing for this, because they don’t really understand the ramifications of everything that’s being rammed through legislatively; they just want to get their money’s worth and see some action.
On the Republican side, you have women like Beth Christie who want to get their money’s worth as well, and look at the mess that ultimately made for the Cook County GOP.
These unforced errors and donor-induced follies happen all across the country for both Democrats and Republicans.
It’s why we’ve been long-advocating a major educational initiative in the Tea Party ranks to identify and pressure these large donors to put a stop to the madness both parties are engaged in right now. If Americans directed their ire and attention at these wealthy individuals, who use politics as a hobby and pet project (or who, like Christie, give money to advance pets of another sense), then politics might be a much less desirable place for them to spend their mad money. If Christie took those big checks to Coach or Tiffany’s on Michigan Avenue, and had one heck of a fun time there instead, the Cook County GOP would be much better off today, counterintuitive to the party’s zeal to get as much cash from this blonde ATM as possible.
CASE STUDY: Why the Chicago Young Republicans' sexual assault scandal and its cover-up by the Chicago GOP is yet another example of Republicans refusing to get in front of a problem before it metastasized.
Over the last few days, a wholly preventable scandal has metastasized for the GOP in Illinois that could very well cost Republicans the Governor’s mansion and “president” Obama’s former Senate seat: both were winnable races, if Republicans had learned from mistakes of the past and gotten in front of a potential problem before it was allowed to yet again reveal the GOP in Illinois to be a myopic boys’ club that protects its own while covering-up anything that could potentially upset their cucumber-and-mayonnaise soggy sandwich cocktail parties. “Romney Republicans” have gotten conservatives into an untenable position yet again.
In July of 2009, a young woman came forward and identified herself to be the victim of a self-proclaimed “Prophet” in the Chicago GOP ranks, a man who abused his position in the social networking/political action club Chicago Young Republicans to lure women (and some men) back to his apartment, hotel suites, offices, and other venues for “private, high level political discussions”. Against the backdrop of a Democrat razzle-dazzler and snake oil salesman essentially doing the same thing to the American people at large in this “The Golden Age of Hope and Change” (and while Al Gore was practicing moves of his own on massage therapists, according to the Pulitzer Prize-nominated National Enquirer), the complaint filed by the young woman with the Chicago GOP and Young Republican National organization alleges “The Prophet” plied her with alcohol to the point of inebriation, continued to force drinks upon her after she’d told him she’d had enough, took her cell phone away from her when she tried to call for help, blocked her exit when she tried to flee, and then refused to assist her in finding a cab to drive her home, in the dead at night, after all those drinks he served her, when she was afraid of venturing out into crime-riddled Chicago on her own.
Other women and men have come forward with similar detailed accounts that paint a clear picture of a serious problem in the Chicago Young Republican organization, which had been seen as a growing and dynamic new political force on the Chicago scene — until it was rendered a laughingstock by “The Prophet”. It’s now widely considered kin to Animal House grade fraternities that would surely lose their charters if observant deans and mature adults stopped to realize how much damage the debauchery, skirt-chasing, and victimization of women was inflicting on the conservative cause in a corrupt, bankrupt, battered Midwestern state desperate for an alternative to endless Democrat scandals and abuse of power.
“The Prophet”, as nicknamed by members of the CYRs because of his endless womanizing and grand delusion of “being the Republican Party in Illinois”, as well as being “untouchable”, has been protected from discipline and scrutiny by Cook County Republican Chairman Lee Roupas, Fran Eaton (editor of the Illinois Review), wealthy Chicago donors such as Beth Christie, former GOP Illinois State Chair Andy McKenna, failed Lt. Governor candidate Matt Murphy, and other Republicans on the state and national levels who knew of the complaint filed by the young woman against “The Prophet” — but did their level best to quash it, and squash any truthteller out there who was determined to see an investigation launched into the frat house the Chicago Young Republicans had devolved into.
While the complaint filed against “The Prophet” was made in July of 2009, alleging an attempted rape/date rape at “The Prophet’s” apartment in the spring of 2009, this scandal didn’t break until June 11, 2010 when truthteller Eloise Gerson, Chairwoman of the Chicago Republican Party and Central Committee, attempted to launch a full-scale investigation into “The Prophet’s” conduct by sending a letter to Cook County Republican Chairman Lee Roupas demanding action be taken.
This demand was made because Roupas, a close personal friend and drinking buddy of “The Prophet’s”, had hired “The Prophet” to be his subordinate in the Cook County GOP, earning a high salary and gaining access to a set of offices in which allegations were surfacing the same sort of frat boy behavior detailed in the complaint was being carried out.
Gerson had been aware of the date rape complaint for some time, but had never actually seen a physical copy of it until early June of 2010. Roupas was presented with a copy of the complaint at the National Young Republican convention in Indianapolis in July of 2009; he read the complaint in front of witnesses in a hotel suite, smiled, tried to make a joke of it, then seemingly forgot about the whole thing. Roupas never launched an investigation into the matter, and instead saw to it that “The Prophet” was installed in a cushy position with the Cook County GOP at the first available opportunity.
After Gerson read the complaint, she was horrified, and immediately contacted the complainant to verify the accuracy of the charges. Believing the young woman, Gerson then launched her own investigation and determined this was not an isolated incident. Women, and some men, came forward and detailed scores more instances of sexual harassment and impropriety at the hands of “The Prophet”, many of which Roupas seemed to know about as well.
Both Roupas and “The Prophet” are “Romney Guys”, a special brand of Republican we’ve identified and described for you on this site repeatedly. Here in Chicago, all of these guys seem to have been part of the Mitt Romney 2008 campaign, before Romney bowed out to John McCain. They’ve never stopped running Romney for president, and have taken over organizations like the CYRs to build them into Romney 2012 ground teams. This is similar to what Barack Obama did between 2004 and 2008 to usurp control of the Democrat Party from the Clintons. The “Romney Guys” are dangerous for a lot of reasons, not just because they are hellbent on pushing a losing 2012 candidate upon the GOP. They’re also a problem because of the entitlement they feel, and the frat boy environment they foster in their ranks, encouraged, we’ve been told, by Mitt Romney himself. For “Romney Guys”, women are to be seen and not heard, don’t deserve much consideration, and are disposable. The goal of each day is to enrich themselves as much as possible, chomp down on some good cigars, drink themselves silly in wood-paneled neighborhood bars, and protect each other to the hilt whenever any of their penises get them into trouble.
On June 15th 2010, Gerson received a phone call from Roupas telling her he had received her letter and that he was now taking the complaint seriously — despite spending a full eleven months doing just the opposite, while protecting his drinking buddy. Roupas told Gerson he’d “get back to her in a couple of weeks” about what “The Prophet” had been accused of. After he hung up the phone with Gerson, instead of following through with the promised investigation into his drinking buddy, Roupas launched a plan to eliminate Gerson from the Illinois GOP so that she would be forced to stop talking about this date rape complaint.
Roupas illegally convened a secret meeting of “The Executive Session” on June 15th after speaking with Gerson. He invited only his loyalists, and excluded Committeemen he had no power over. All of Gerson’s allies, and Gerson herself, were excluded from the meeting…the point of which was to plan an attack on Gerson that would discredit, malign, humiliate, and remove her from power so that she could not blow the lid off the sexual assault scandal Roupas realized would now take him down too.
Roupas’ cronies at “The Executive Session” engaged in classic “Romney Guy” behavior, setting up a scenario where Gerson and her allies were not present for the purpose of attacking Gerson on record without giving her ability to defend herself. It’s a tactic borrowed from the Left, as evidenced in Barack Obama’s repeatedly successful attempts to eliminate opponents on various ballots he ran on, so that he’d be the only one left standing in the room. In Chicago, Republicans like Roupas are indistinguishable from Democrats at times.
At the illegal “Executive Session”, Roupas and his henchmen drew up a resolution essentially saying Gerson was crazy, bad, and not doing her job as a Chairwoman of whatever it was she was chairing. Details of the procedural goings-on of Republicans can be mind-numbing, because as a rule these people are so obsessed with titles, power struggles, blazers, and cucumber sandwiches-t0-cocktails ratios at parties that it’s impossible for us to keep straight who’s the Grand Poobah and who’s just the Viceroy Spectacular or Sprinkles-Coated Rum Ripple Committeeman. We imagine these people assembled together, around large plates of soggy sandwiches, wearing horned water buffalo fur hats comparing each other’s titles on business cards.
On June 16 2010, Gerson caught wind of the retaliatory moves made against her the day before, in violation of the Rules of the Grand Poobah that these “Executive Committees” are supposed to be run by. Roupas had scheduled a new meeting to be held on June 29 2010 (ironically, unbeknownst to Roupas, EXACTLY, to the day, one year from the day the young woman first sought help in writing the complaint against “The Prophet”…when she attended the Chicago Young Republicans $25,000 “Membership Drive” party at the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville and encountered several other young women at the event with similar stories to hers…convincing her to write the complaint when she saw “The Prophet” working the crowd goosing young women and plying them, too, with alcohol in attempts to get them to come upstairs to the “VIP Lounge” he had created for himself), which was also the last day in that “I’ll get back to you in a few weeks” period he had set to “get back with” Gerson about any investigation he was launching into “The Prophet”.
The next day, Gerson dispatched letters to all the GOP Ward Committeemen telling them that Roupas was abusing his power, acting illegally, and covering up a date rape complaint made against someone employed by the Cook County GOP.
On June 18 2010, Gerson had a delicious breakfast with Republican State Executive Director Curt Conrad, informing him that we at HillBuzz had a copy of the young woman’s complaint, and that she was a friend of ours. It’s unclear what the two ate for breakfast, but it’s been noted it was delicious. At length, it was speculated why we never published the complaint or wrote about it, since we were copied on it from the very beginning. The reason for this is that we’ve thought this was a police matter to begin with, and have always been surprised the GOP didn’t refer the matter to the CPD to let them investigate it on their end while the GOP in Illinois cleaned house in terms of whom it put in positions that enabled them to victimize women in this way.
The Chicago Young Republicans was a wonderful organization when it was run by former CYR President Keely Drukala, one of the smartest, most honest, and hardest working people we’ve ever known. It was Drukala who embraced us, as Hillary Democrats turned Democrats for McCain back in the summer of 2008. We worked side by side with the CYRs through the 2008 election and its aftermath, hoping to forge a lasting alliance between moderate Dems and Independents and conservatives in the state of Illinois to battle the Leftists that control Chicagoland. That was all possible when Drukala was president, but after she was forced out of the organization by ‘The Prophet”, and the “Romney Guys” took over, we ultimately ended all ties with the CYRs…though we still maintain that 95% of them, the non-Romney crowd, are great people. Drukala now works for a conservative think tank and has lost her interest in active political involvement because of attacks made upon her by “The Prophet” as he climbed the ladder and seized power. Looking back on it all, the Alinksy Method playbook was very much used against Drukala by “The Prophet”, just as it was used against Gerson by Roupas and those Romney Guy committeemen. Apparently, things of this nature were also done to another woman in the GOP recently in Illinois, with Demetra DeMonte (whom we also know from the 2008 campaign) being forced out of her position for standing up to Romney Guys of her own.
The GOP in Illinois is sending a clear message to women: shut up, stay out of the way, and if you get out of line you will be smacked down so that Romney Guys get what they want.
On June 26 2010, three days before the meeting that Roupas scheduled, female CYR members alerted Gerson that “The Prophet” had declared that “Eloise will be eliminated soon”, emphasizing the great lengths Roupas was going to protect “The Prophet” by removing Gerson from the GOP so that she could not have access to resources to investigate Roupas or “The Prophet”.
A bizarre plot then unfolded to move up the June 29th meeting by a day, so that Roupas and his henchman could remove Gerson from her position before Roupas had to issue a response to her about the investigation of “The Prophet”. Roupas declared this to be an informal meeting to discuss “moving forward” and “doing good things”, and he deliberately maneuvered to keep as few of Gerson’s allies at this meeting as possible. Meanwhile, he prepped his own allies for the real purpose of the meeting: which was essentially an “Eloise Gerson needs to go before she uncovers the truth” meeting. People who were not attending the meeting sent “proxy votes” ahead with other Roupas allies…which defies logic if the meeting had no agenda and was just for “moving ahead”. How could these people know they’d be voting to boot Gerson from her position if that was not the expressed intent of the meeting? Barring psychic powers on their part, this is proof Roupas coordinated this meeting behind Gerson’s back to put in place a mechanism to remove her before she forced him to investigate ‘The Prophet”.
After Roupas lashed out at Gerson at this meeting and maligned her character and job performance, Gerson passed out copies of the victim’s complaint against ‘The Prophet” to everyone present. One of the people seeing this complaint for the first time was a Ward Committeeman who is also a Chicago Police Detective.
The police detective stated in no uncertain terms that what “The Prophet” is alleged to have done in the complaint filed with the GOP is indeed a criminal offense.
After the assembled Republicans gasped at what they read in the complaint, the plot to remove Gerson from her position collapsed. Gerson again called for an investigation of “The Prophet”, but was shouted down by Roupas and his henchmen. Failing to remove her by vote, the Romney Guys then ganged up on her and tried to intimidate her into quitting, using thuggish tactics we’d only experienced from the Obama campaign and ACORN here in Chicago.
After shouting at Gerson to “just shut up and go away”, Roupas then decided to create a new position in the Grand Poobah Republican Organizational Chart of Numerous and Varied Titles to supplant Gerson, render her redundant and irrelevant, and give her a new direct report who would eclipse her.
Roupas then revealed the person he wanted to supplant Gerson was a man named Andy Magliochetti, who you will know as “they idiot who used Republican donor money to take Young Eagles RNC members to a bondage strip club in Los Angeles, causing another scandal for the GOP”.
Do you see what Romney Guys have done here?
Magliochetti screws up royally at the RNC in Los Angeles, creates a scandal, and causes immense embarrassment because he cannot control his sexual fetishes. Instead of being cast out of the Republican Party, he’s given a promotion to a job in Chicago that would make him the boss of a “trouble-making” woman who needed to be shut up before she blew the lid off a major cover-up the Chicago GOP was engaged in.
This is the same thing that Roupas did to “The Prophet”. After the date rape complaint was released, instead of Romney Guys removing “The Prophet” from the fold, they dug trenches around him and promoted him to a high-paying position under Roupas in the Cook County GOP.
When a Republican male does something despicable, he is protected, promoted, and rewarded.
When a Republican woman speaks out and challenges what the party is doing, she is maligned, berated, dragged through the mud, and forced out.
This is why Republicans lose so many elections: they have too many Romney Guys protecting themselves, and are too afraid of Mamma Grizzlies like Gerson, Drukala, and DeMonte who don’t take their garbage and challenge them to put the needs of the state, their constituents, and conservatism above the Romney Guys’ personal enrichment, delusions of glory, and “it’s my turn” mentality.
After the June 28th meeting, the Romney Guys all declared this Magliochetti person to be Gerson’s replacement, which Gerson maintains is illegal because she was elected to her position and cannot be usurped like this. No investigation into “The Prophet” was launched by the Illinois GOP and Roupas did not give Gerson the report he promised by June 29th…the one year anniversary of when this complaint was first initiated.
On July 9th, the Chicago Young Republicans threw another lavish “Membership Drive” at the Cubby Bear, which Gerson attempted to attend as a paying member. She was humiliated at the door and refused entry by “The Prophet’s” private security and personal entourage, called vulgar and misogynistic names, and demeaned with taunts of “You lost, we won! You can’t touch him!”.
Witnessing this treatment of Gerson, a group of CYR members formed the “Roxy Vanilla” project to bring everything above to light and to call for an immediate investigation into the conduct and behavior of Roupas, “The Prophet”, and others up the chain of command in the Illinois GOP (such as former State Chair Andy McKenna, who received the complaint around the same time Roupas did back in 2009, but never did a thing about it).
“Roxy Vanilla” began emailing details of the complaint and other instances of victimization of women allegedly committed by “The Prophet”. Recipients of those emails included Carol Marin, Michael Sneed, John Kass, Laura Washington, other political reporters here in Chicago and several political sites, including HillBuzz. We were specifically asked to come forward with what we knew about all of this, and about what “The Prophet” had done to the CYRs and was doing to women…and some men, too.
“The Prophet” is equal-opportunity in his victimization and retaliations against both men and women alike. In some instances, he’s utilized Fran Eaton at Illinois Review as his personal goon, where she writes hit pieces on people “The Prophet” wants punished for some transgression against him. When we exposed a campaign “The Prophet” was running against gubernatorial candidate Dan Proft, when “The Prophet” believed this would help Matt Murphy win the nomination, “The Prophet” hit us back by ordering Fran Eaton to reveal one of our real names, post pictures, and out us on Illinois Review…knowing this would, for the first time, give Daily Kos and DemocraticUnderground a point of personal attack against HillBuzz. Prior to this outing by Fran Eaton at the urging of “The Prophet”, we had been an anonymous political blog because exposing our identities put us at risk of attack from the Left. Subsequent to Fran Eaton and Illinois Review’s actions, Daily Kos has regularly run hit pieces on us, using one of our real names, labeling him a racist, destroying his business, alienating friends, and ruining his livelihood.
That’s the fear many of “The Prophet’s” victims in Chicago have, of facing career-killing and life-destroying retaliation from “The Prophet” and his allies. Fran Eaton is always ready at Illinois Review to personally destroy anyone “The Prophet” tells her to take down. “The Prophet” is well-funded by Chicago multi-millionaire cougar Beth Christie, who writes large checks to maintain “The Prophet’s” extravagance. The “Membership Drive” parties “The Prophet” throws once a year are Obamaesque in their opulence, with bands costing close to $10,000 rocking out the stage in a giant venue rented to proclaim “The Prophet’s” greatness. Christie’s lavish donations have saved the Chicago Young Republicans from insolvency on at least two occasions, when “The Prophet” spent tens of thousands of dollars more than the group had and authorities were closing in on them for collection. Without large donors like Beth Christie funding this debauched, Obamaian frat party, “The Prophet” would not be able to afford loyal minions like Fran Eaton.
And, without control of the CYRs, “The Prophet” would not have access to the attractive, discreet young men he introduces to Congressmen Aaron Schock and Mark Kirk, and other prominent Republican men who lend “The Prophet” credibility and support because “The Prophet” not only makes these introductions, but presumably threatens to go public with them should Schock, Kirk, and the other dandies cut him off.
It’s why we keep telling Republicans that Schock, Kirk, and the rest need to just come out of the closet. We spotted Schock with our own eyes in the Boystown gay bar MiniBar after the 2009 CYR Cubby Bear event, having a fabulous time with male CYR members in the VIP section of the bar…men he was presumably introduced to by “The Prophet”. We’ve seen “The Prophet” flirt with Schock, and other prominent closeted Republicans, in attempts to talk them into various shenanigans, but Schock seems to, up to this point, be playing things smart enough to only take home men who won’t speak out about their trysts. Some day, that will change, and will come back to bite Republicans like it always does.
We know for a fact Democrats in Chicago have footage of Schock in Boystown bars carousing with men. We know this because after noting Schock’s appearance at MiniBar back in 2009 on this site, we were offered a paid assignment to secure such footage and deliver it to Democrats here in Chicago. We turned down that task because a good friend of ours in Republican circles made us promise to give Schock a chance to come out on his own — which he has promised to do before the 2010 election — and because Democrats are destroying this country and there’s nothing on Earth that would get us to help any of them at this point.
Which brings us to the importance of addressing this scandal in full, as a case study for Republicans nationwide.
The thinking in the Republican Party, with all things like this, seems to be: pretend nothing is happening, protect the Romney Guys at all costs, attack the victims and truthtellers with every weapon at your disposal, and maintain your seat at the cocktail party no matter what.
The Republican Party needs a come to Jesus moment.
It needs a dressing down of the highest order.
The reason you need to care about a sex scandal rocking the GOP in Chicago is because these sorts of cover-ups are happening wherever you live too.
If you don’t think Democrats know all about them, then you are insane. You’re as clueless and deliberately delusional as that busty-chested woman poolside with Aaron Schock, helping him prove how heterosexual he is. Democrats don’t buy any of this garbage. But they know about all of it. They might not talk about it, because they are waiting for the right moment to reveal everything they know, at a time that’s most opportune for them and most precarious for Republicans.
YOU HAVE TO START UNDERSTANDING THIS if conservatives are going to save this country from the Left.
YOU HAVE TO STOP COVERING-UP BAD THINGS and start addressing them NOW, so there is time to recover from this stuff by November.
It is crystal clear, time and again, that Republicans enter into a turtle’s shell of misguided hope that they can weather an election without whatever scandal they are hiding being revealed. The Left is incredibly strategic. It does not explode all the mines it has all at once. It know about Mark Kirk. It knows about Aaron Schock. It knows about Lee Roupas and “The Prophet”. It knows about things we don’t even know about. Some of them aren’t even gay scandals. Imagine that.
The Romney Guys out there, being all about themselves, just hold their breath and hope the Left explodes a scandal on the other guy this election cycle, letting their own bad behavior or lies go unnoticed this time around. That gives them another two years at the cocktail party, in the nice blazer, with all the cucumber-and-mayo sandwiches on white bread, washed down with skim milk, they can eat (unless Fran Eaton happens to sniff that particular buffet…then Oprah help them, there won’t be any sandwiches left for the khaki pants brigade).
This does conservative voters no good, because the Romney Guys are an entrenched aristocracy that protects their own at all costs…to the detriment of conservatism and the nation at large.
That’s why the Romney Guys are so damn scared of Governor Palin and the Tea Party Movement. That’s why these guys throw everything they have into attacking truthtellers like Eloise Gerson. These guys hate Mamma Grizzlies. They hate women with opinions and mouths that just won’t shut up when told to. They hate anyone who won’t enable their self-destructive, asinine operating procedure of allowing something like “The Prophet” and Lee Roupas’ mess in Chicago to metastasize into the national scandal this will more than likely become.
The GOP could have avoided this by removing “The Prophet” last July. Instead, the GOP in Chicago staked its credibility and public image on protecting a prophet while ignoring a criminal complaint from a female victim. Instead of listening to the female truthteller calling for an investigation, the GOP in Chicago decided to bully her into silence and try to force her out. Fran Eaton, donut in hand, is hard at work over at Illinois Review, no doubt, putting out whatever lies she dreams up today about Gerson. No doubt Fran Eaton will hit us some more too, as she did when she gave the Left the tools it needed to destroy one of us personally and professionally.
Why conservatives in this state tolerate Roupas, McKenna, Conrad, Fran Eaton, and wealthy donors like Beth Christie who fund all these frat parties, for whatever bizarre reason, is just beyond us.
But, we hope today you get more insight into why we are fighting so hard against the Romney Guys every day around here. It’s draining, because we’re also fighting against the Left in this country, so conservatives would make life so much easier by purging the Romney entitlement “it’s my turn” wing of aristocrats entirely so we can all focus on getting more people like Chris Christie, Jan Brewer, Michele Bachmann, and Governor Palin into office (all of whom, we’ll note, are hated by Romney Guys and GOP cocktail party establishment).
We’re sure the next week or so will be brutal in comments as this scandal explodes nationwide, but we wanted to tell you everything we knew because we want the Republican Party to learn from its mistakes, cut the crap, and stop repeating these disasters.
It is NOT okay to keep quiet about these things and just hope and pray Democrats decide not to make it an October surprise. STOP PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WITH THE LEFT!
Start taking conservatism’s destiny into your own hands, exposing your own scandals before the Left can, and nipping as much of these Romney Guys’ destructive shenanigans in the bud before it can metastasize into election-ruining cancers.
The cucumber-and-mayo frat parties need Mamma Grizzlies to clean house, crack skulls, and whip this party back into shape.
We hope and pray all of you reading this are such Big Mammas, regardless of gender, because the party of Romney and his acolytes may be adroit at using Alinsky Methods on fellow Republicans…but it’s not going to have what it takes to defeat Obama and his true Alinsky experts in 2012.
That’s what really matters, folks. Not what title this or that Poobah or Committeeman has.
