Sunday Open Thread: July 18th, 2010 (With Special Prayer Request)

Posted on July 18, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

What’s on your minds this Sunday?

What are people in your part of the country talking about?

What are you doing today to help the Resistance to the Left?

*********************************************************

We have a special request for you today — and that is, if you would, to please pray for PUMApac founder Darragh Murphy and her family, as she lost her father to cancer yesterday.  Murphy is one of the most stand-up, bravest, and take-n0-prisoners Americans we know.  Her father had to have had a hand in making her the woman she is today…and today we ask you to send some prayers out for the soul of a man who raised a mighty impressive daughter who’s had a big hand in nudging the Resistance to the Left and Obama’s personal brand of socialism.

Please pray for America too, while you are at it — especially that more Americans wake up and find the courage to do the unprecedented in their lives, just like Darragh Murphy herself did in 2008.  Stand up, fight back, Resist the Left at every turn, get the truth about this administration out, no matter how much the Left tries to stop you.

      yes, the same from here.

I lost a sister to cancer… followed by a cousin.. and there have been plenty of other family members that have died of cancer.. including my late mother-in-law.

      My condolences to the family.

Getting back to a topic we were debating yesterday: Hillary running in 2012.

I’ve thought a lot about it and I’ve threshed out my opinion a little more. Thought I would share and spur a little more lively debate.

I do believe Hillary wants nothing more than to be the first female President of the United States. There is no greater goal for her than that.

As Secretary of State, Hillary doesn’t really have any further up she can go within the Obama administration, except Vice President — a position I don’t know if Obama would offer, and I don’t know if Hillary would accept.

I believe Hillary has a senatorial position waiting for her any time she wants it in New York. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Gillibrand would resign her post just so Hillary could have it back, if she wanted.

Bill and Hillary have plenty of money. They also have quite a bit of influence, with or without a position within the government.

So, in my mind, Hillary has almost nothing to lose by challenging Obama in 2012.

Some pundits have said her political career would be over if she tried to split the Democratic party, but I have two responses to that.

First, I believe the November defeat of the Democratic party will be firm and fierce, and that alone will already split the Democratic party in two. Each faction will need a leader. I expect Obama to take the helm of the farther-left progressive faction, leaving the more conservative faction wide open for Hillary to take up the mantle. If this happens, she will appear as a champion of the conservative Democrats, rather than as a pariah.

Second, assume that Hillary’s political career IS over if she challenges Obama… so what? If SoS is all the higher she can ever go, when the only remaining goal she cares about is being President, then why not take the chance? I also think she could still go back and win in New York, even after “backstabbing” Obama. Especially if the Democratic party is fractured.

A lot of people have also suggested that she could run in 2016. I say not a chance.

Let’s assume Obama wins re-election in 2012. The odds are HEAVILY against another Democrat winning election in 2016. Bush Senior won election after Reagan, but only because Reagan was so popular. Obama, if he manages to win in 2012, will not be so popular. Anti-Democrat sentiment would be running far too high for any Democrat to follow Obama in 2016.

2020 is out of the cards. She’ll be 72 by then, 73 by the time November rolls around. Basically the same age McCain was in 2008. Age will be a factor, and Hillary knows that.

The only other scenario where Hillary might have a shot at the Presidency is if a Republican wins in 2012, and then Hillary runs in 2016. This is a viable possibility, but it’s a huge risk for Hillary for two reasons.

First, Hillary cannot predict who might ultimately win for the Republicans. A strong Republican candidate is unlikely to be unseated midstream, and Hillary knows that.

Second, there is no guarantee that a Republican will actually beat Obama in 2012, especially if it’s one of the soggy mayo sandwich Republicans.

So hoping a Republican beats Obama in 2012 so that Hillary can run and win in 2016 seems like a big gamble for her.

All scenarios laid out in front of me, it seems the one in which Hillary has the most control is challenging Obama in 2012.

Now, in order to do that, two things still need to happen.

One, Republicans must score a resounding victory this fall to fracture the Democrat party.

And two, Obama must make another high-profile blunder with regards to foreign policy, which will give Hillary a great reason to publically split from Obama and blast him for it.

I just happen to think that both of these things are going to happen. And that’s going to give Hillary the perfect opportunity.

I guarantee she’s already priming herself for the possibility. Her interview on that foreign news station in which she tied Obama directly to the Arizona lawsuit… Carville’s decision to not sit on the poll results which label Obama a “socialist”… Bill is supporting candidates in opposition to the White House… she is carefully placing her chess pieces and waiting for a moment to strike.

A few more things working in her favor:

    * An endorsement by Bill Clinton holds more weight with independents than any other major politician on either side of the aisle.

    * Hillary’s approval rating is still in the high 50s/low 60s.

    * Less than one month ago, a Rasmussen survey found that more independents felt Hillary was qualified to be President than Barack Obama, and also more than Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, or Sarah Palin. Her number was 57% — fairly solid.

    * As I mentioned before, over half the country now believes the word “socialist” is an accurate descriptor of Obama. That is not good for him.

    * 60% of Americans (and climbing) feel that Iran poses a critical threat to U.S. Interests (according to Gallup). Obama’s foreign policy approach to Iran is much different than the one Hillary describe in the primaries. I believe Iran would make a perfect reason for Hillary to resign and attack Obama.

So, there are my reasons for thinking Hillary is at least 50/50 on running in 2012, if not more.

I don’t think Hillary will challenge Obama in 2012 unless she KNOWS she can win. So if she runs in the primary, I think she’ll secure the nomination. It’s also possible that Obama doesn’t even run for re-election and just hands the nomination to Hillary.

Does that mean she will win the national election? No, not necessarily, but it does depend heavily on who the GOP puts up.

I think Hillary’s numbers at present are PLENTY strong, especially after investigating for the latest figures. I think she has largely escaped the negative stigma of Obama’s decisions. I know some disagree with me on that point, but so far I don’t see that opinion reflected in the numbers. Based on the numbers I see, I think Hillary would be a solid contender against any candidate.

But if the GOP puts up a weak contender — and given their history, I won’t be surprised if they do — then Hillary would win handily.

So that’s it. I see the dominoes aligning. There’s still a LOT that could happen, and a number of things that have to fall into place in order for Hillary to run and win, but it seems just as plausible to me, considering the evidence at this point in time, as any other scenario.

your scenario makes sense, but digging into Hillary’s past and present alliances, and we have plenty of time to do that now that we have seen how O escaped scrutiny, might reveal a ton of baggage that would make an already gunshy populace leery of her. This is just my take. I think she has been very clever about distancing herself and i would not blame her for dealing O a good political backstabbing which he so richly deserves.

I think the only reason HRC’s numbers are so high right now is that her job keeps her out of the country and out of the daily media spotlight. If she were to run, republicans woudl quickly tie her to everything the public hates about the Obama administration. Contrary to being “very clever about distancing herself,” she has done nothing to distance herself as far as I can see. EricP has put forth an interesting scenario, but I don’t think it takes the risks/downside fairly into account.

What’s on my mind is the 73000 blogs that were shut down in the United States Friday by Homeland Security, under the excuse “copyright” infringement. It’s frightening; I have been fighting THE MAN since he got into office, but I’m started to get unnerved.
In fact, every time I post something on my little blog about a congressperson, my website gets checked by house.gov, sometimes numerous times. my website has been checked twice by the executive office of the president of the united states. Now what in the heck do they care about my little ole blog? What is happening in this country is frightening.

Well, I have a sitemeter counter on my website. You can track who’s on so one day I happened to check it, and saw the EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. The person was on for 45 minutes and the topic was health care, right after Linda Douglas set out that announcement that you should rat on anybody who disagrees with the Marxists on health care.
So I’ve been carefully monitoring it ever since. I noticed that every time I put something up about a congressperson being confronted by a citizen, house.gov checks it.
It’s pretty creepy. One day we had something up about a demonstration against Marcy Kapture and they checked my little website FOURTEEN times.

The 73,000 blogs were not shut down per se.

I have a blog at Blogetery which is the wordpress server that was shut down. I looked at the forum of host owners etc concerning the issue.

What seems to have happened is that a blog on the network has done something to either infringe copyright or is involved with pornography. The point is that this is a result of a request from authorities to pull the plug. Perhaps they wanted to examine the server.

At the moment the Blogetery owner has to wait until he gets a response from Burstnet as to whether the authorities will communicate with him.

Unless someone had a blog that was making specific threats against the President, or even terrorist threats, then I see no reason to be all that concerned.

Blog servers have disappeared in the past. I had a blog on a server called White Pages. It was shut down because of that name….

Hmmm. My blog is all about exposing the election fraud of the 2008 election cycle. And the article I posted for today recommends that, consistent with the Oath of Office they had to take in January 2009 (per the U.S. Code), all 435 Representatives in office should not be re-elected unless they submit a Resolution of Impeachment before the November 2010 elections! WERE YOU LYING THEN or ARE YOU LYING NOW?
(And I just recently ‘discovered’ alexa, the blog counting site; seems the “jbjd” blog is MUCH MORE POPULAR in D.C. than anywhere else! So, hardly seems likely any censoring based only on ‘government’ content is going on. Why, look at some of the ‘zingers’ posted here on HillBuzz!)

Wondering why the prosecution portion of the Blagoveich trial was so short? Fitzgerald made a huge “deal” when he started all this and led us to believe the corruption was monumental; seems to have fizzled quite a bit. For my money, Blago was doing exactly what the rest of them do every day; his crime was getting caught.

Each member of the House of Representatives will constructively forfeit the privilege of reelection by failing to introduce a Resolution of Impeachment before the November 2010 election. That is the only mechanism through which we can examine Mr. Obama’s role in the criminal conspiracy of fraud that got state election officials to print on the ballot the name of the candidate who overwhelming circumstantial evidence establishes is Constitutionally unqualified for the job. And, assuming the focused investigation and trial by the Senate validates our findings then, under the Constitution, Impeachment is the only way to remove him from office.
Including Madam Speaker, who refuses to respond to voters’ questions as to what was the documentary basis for swearing in that signed Certification of his Nomination that he is a natural born citizen.

They are starting a door knocking campaign in the counties, especially here in Delaware County. I am really excited about it, b/c normally Republicans are not good at this, well, the PA Republicans particularly.

Unfortunately, something came up, but I will join the group next time. Also, I will write up my findings, b/c my area is truly a “swing” district, so I’ll get a cross section of political thought. I’m sure I will come face to face with alot of kool-aid drinkers.

Prayers and condolences for the Murphy family. I noted on her blog she commented about some nastiness in the commentary, and appealed for people to stop sniping at each other…

“I was sad to see unkindness on the blog today. As I said to my sister at the hospital today: This sucks, and on top of that we are surrounded by crazy people who do insane and hurtful things. Let’s not fight with EACH OTHER.

    She agreed.”

She is so right …. we all need to stick together. I didn’t read the comments on the blog but I hope that the infighting will/can stop.

That the film stars the scenery-chewing phony Streep is bad enough, but to disrespect Margaret Thatcher, one of the most heroic women in history, borders on sacrilege. Another Hollyweird film that needs to tank big at the box office.

Looks like they are going to start out with a demented Lady Thatcher looking back. So the whole thing is going to be a hollywood fantasy – what they “wish” she was thinking about like how she should have been more “compassionate” and showed her “feelings” more and that she was too “power driven” and didn’t give her husband enough of her time…yadda yadda lie yadda crap yadda. Makes me sick and I will be avoiding the film like the plague and telling everyone I know to do so also. I’m not paying a dime to have some left wing utopia-loving low IQ money grubbing hollywood group trash Lady Thatcher on film for the ages. If the family is horrified, that’s good enough for me. When. Will. They. Learn.

We need to remember it is not enough just to get conservatives elected; they must govern carefully. Wise as serpents, harmless as doves.

The mention of Margaret Thatcher reminded me that several weeks ago there was talk of Palin visiting the Iron Lady. Did that happen – don’t know how I could have missed it. Has Thatcher’s health become an issue or is the visit still planned?

Very good stuff considering in light of the ongoing “discussion” on fb with some who obviously see themselves as part of the “enlightened” crowd. I see racism being used as the new preferred tool to silence the uneducated masses into submission. Take over of the banks, the auto companies, healthcare, cap & trade – to oppose these one must obviously be racist is the current meme. Marginalize and ostracize all opposition as I see it.

Thanks for posting this further discussion on the topic. Work has been crazy of late and I love being able to come to HB and find all the stuff I need to read, usually conveniently located in the Open Thread! ..smiles..

As a first time poster, I know this is long. but I wanted to share.

    July 18, 2010
Yesterday my husband and I attended the funeral of Edwin Wood, an eighteen year old soldier, from Omaha, NE-killed in Kandahar, Afghanistan. It was an amazingly painful yet beautiful experience.
Early Friday evening I received a phone call from a friend telling me of Eddie’s death and asking if we wanted to attend his funeral because there were going to be some of those despicable protesters there. She explained that patriot groups were going to hold a line of flags to shield the family from having to see the protesters, I said yes, we would go.
Upon arrival at the intersection where the church is located, we were stopped at a traffic light where the police were directing a HUGE group of Patriot Riders, a motorcycle group made up of veterans, to their parking area. It was quite a sight! We found parking, took our flag and went to join the patriots. In short order we found another friend and became part of a seven block “line” of flag waving patriots. It was BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL! We stood practically elbow to elbow for blocks. At one point, Eddie’s grieving mother was walking the line thanking people for being there in honor of her son. The protesters showed up as expected-all 20 or less of them. While one is too many, our silent statement was a big fat smack down to those disrespectful protesters! As we stood there together, each was alone with our own thoughts. At one point it sounded as if one of the protesters was going to speak, there was a Patriot Rider at the opposite corner and he revved his engine, drowning out anything he may have tried to say-they were silent for the rest of the hour they were there.
We then went to the cemetery and stood near the entrance with our flags silently welcoming those who were coming in early. At the bottom of the hill leading up to the cemetary there were two fire trucks with their ladders raised holding a HUGE American flag. It was AWESOME and humbling! Eventually we went up to the gravesite. Again being humbled. There was a group of Revolutionary Era patriots at the bottom of the hill leading up to the graveside tent. There was a live-fire cannon and men in full military dress waiting to grant the honor of a 21 gun salute. There were two long rows of flags leading up to the tent each ready to be held by patriots.
When the Hearst arrived at the cemetery entrance, a siren wailed, a bell tolled and positions were taken, Mike and I both honored to be holding a flag. A palpable somberness was upon the attendees. The clergy walked up the hill first. Just as a side note, the heat was stifling and the humidity oppressive. A 21 gun salute was done and then fellow soldiers carried young Eddie’s body up to the tent. This was painful to witness. It felt as though heart strings were being ripped at from within. The family members followed, young, old and one young man on crutches. Their pain visible as was their dignity. They were followed by the Revolutionary Era patriots, the snare drummer leading the way. The eulogy was given, a prayer was said, the flag was folded and presented to the family and the ending 21 gun salute was given.
As I woke this morning I couldn’t help but think of Eddie and his family. Our lives will go on as usual and their’s are changed forever. One life cut short in a far away land, the remaining never to be the same. This experience was a brutal reminder that “Freedom isn’t free”! Young Eddie will be our personal reminder of this. May God rest his soul and keep his family close in the difficult days and years ahead….

Check out the idiot Trent Lott:

“Yet some Republicans worry that tea-party candidates are settling too comfortably into their roles as unruly insurgents and could prove hard to manage if they get elected. Paul, who beat GOP establishment favorite Trey Grayson in Kentucky’s primary, told the National Review that he would seek to join forces with GOP Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.) and Tom Coburn (Okla.), “who are unafraid to stand up” and who have blocked numerous bills advanced by both parties deemed by the pair as expanding government.”

“If we get another loud voice in there, like Mike Lee from Utah or Sharron Angle from Nevada, there will be a new nucleus” to advocate causes such as term limits, a balanced-budget amendment and “having bills point to where they are enumerated in the Constitution,” Paul said in the interview.

Former Senate majority leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), now a D.C. lobbyist, warned that a robust bloc of rabble-rousers spells further Senate dysfunction. “We don’t need a lot of Jim DeMint disciples,” Lott said in an interview. “As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them.”

But Lott said he’s not expecting a tea-party sweep. “I still have faith in the visceral judgment of the American people,” he said.”

Earlier in the spring we were eating our spinich and our lettuce is all gone now too. Now I have summer squash and spagetti squash to look forward too and tomorrow I’ll be picking my cubana peppers. And the onions! Nothing like growing your own onions. So fresh – they don’t even make your eyes water and they are sweet, not that pungent tart taste. I’m going to try the winter veggies.

My Dad is from Europe and came here to the US in the 1950′s. He is so angry that his children and grandchildren are going to be taxed to death and our freedoms taken away.

I am seeing him in a few weeks since we live in different states, and I am not wanting to bring up politics. I’m afraid that he will cry if we will get on the subject of what is happening right now to the US. And I won’t be able to keep myself from crying.

Trust me, get to be friends with someone from any socialist/communist country and hear why they live in the USA and how wonderful we have it.

I went to Romania when I was 18. I agree with this woman. We have been lulled into a sort of mindlessness over the years so that when the current occupier of the White House ran for the presidency, some people only saw his charm, without considering how his political views would ruin our nation.

I pray that God will have mercy on our country & that He will remember all the fine people here who love our country. I pray that there will be a spiritual revival in the land. I pray that God will protect this great land that was dedicated to Him both in VA and MA by those first colonists.

I pray that each one of us will examine our own lives, humble ourselves before Him, pray, seek his face and turn from our own wicked ways. I trust that as we do that, God will honor His word and forgive our sin and heal our land.

I pray that God will give us righteous rulers at every level of government for, “When the righteous rule, the people rejoice.”

I am longing for our nation to be able to rejoice and for this dark cloud to move off our land.

I thank our Boyz for hosting this blog and allowing for spirited debates on topics at hand and I pray that God will protect them.

I thank all of you buzzers for keeping the level of discourse high and keeping things interesting.

I pray that all of you (& your loved ones) who are without jobs will be given jobs.

I pray that God will bring health to those here who need it. I pray that God will give you the desire of your heart.

I pray that God will comfort those who mourn and give them new strength in the days ahead, for the battle is spiritual in nature. I thank them for standing for righteousness.

I pray for peace for our land and that of Israel.

Allahpundit is featuring this story on HotAir. It seems the strategy is now to demonize Palin supporters. Check out this lovely individual, the only reason I am posting this nonsense, is that it comes here so often:

“You people have really lost your minds. Are you kidding me. Rmney has a woman problem. So that’s what Sarah Palin is going with now. If that’s how she wants to run, then she’s really a moron like all these liberals say she is.

The Palin supporters are making me detest her. They care more about her, than about what is good for the country. She will NEVER win a general election…NEVER.

Stories like this are part of the reason why. It doesn’t matter what all her followers think, she doesn’t have it, and continuing to tear down people like Romney who have a chance just to appease her highness is starting to piss me off. She only seems to care about herself.

I used to defend her here, but not anymore…cus she and her followers are very selfish.

“Even if the midterms end the Democrats’ one-party rule, the President may well believe that his accomplishments during his first two years in office were worth it. But it’s a sure bet that the vanquished House Democrats who lose their jobs and their gavels won’t share that assessment.”

The Dr. said that since I’d had many years of really good Pap smears I didn’t need to have one this year and could just do it every other year and that the cancer society had also decided we gals don’t need this test after age 70!! (Or at least those of us with a good history and a monogomous relationship.) Is there an obgyn or a nurse in this field who can comment on this? Would this have changed without Obamacare?
