Something Else to Remember About the Media: All These Guys Not Only Want Obama to Win, But Think He Could Never Lose
[ You might not have realized this, but the people who posed for the silhouettes in this new “Eye of Obama” logo are all members of the corrupt media. Chris Matthews would be in there but he was too big to fit in this small of an “O” ]
This is a quick anecdote that highlights exactly who we are dealing with in the media — and while it’s focused on one guy, you can easily lump 99% of the writers, pundits, and TV personalities you hear praising Obama and declaring him “inevitable” into this story too.
In 2010, I had breakfast with Scott Conroy here in Boystown when he was still filing stories for CBS’ online news service (he’s now since moved over to RealClearPolitics). Scott is one of the nicest straight guys I’ve ever met, and he happened to live just a few blocks from me in Boystown (which straight guys call “Lakeview”). We met up at Nookie’s Tree on Halsted (aka, the gayest diner in the world without a character played by Sharon Gless working there), had coffee, and talked about Sarah Palin for an article he was writing on her supporters. I’ve always been, and remain, an admirer of the Governor’s so I was happy to give Scott insight into why she appeals to so many of us. Scott is charming and funny and looks a lot like the kid who played the son on The Nanny (but really isn’t, though I still kind of wonder if he didn’t change his name or something after he quit acting).
Even back then, Scott insisted that it was only “Barack Obama’s first term” and that Obama would pretty much be president for as long as he wanted. I bet if I pressed Scott he would have told me that possibly the Constitution would be changed to make Obama president for life if he wanted. Though I didn’t get a peek, I started to wonder if Scott was wearing Obama Underoos and if he had his apartment plastered with Obama 2008 gear. Apparently, you can make some decent side-cash stripping for Obama voters wearing his face over your unmentionables.
People who work in the media love Barack Obama in ways that are hard for regular people to understand. I think it’s a combination of a lot of things, but mostly the hive mind that develops in the corrupt media’s offices. I used to freelance gigs with Northwestern here in Chicago and I found that post-Obama it was harder to keep taking assignments with them because the people who worked there were part of the Obama hive and if you didn’t similarly praise him, they’d just KNOW. And you’d conflict with those around you to the point where everyone would feel uncomfortable.
I think people who end up working in the Old Media are those who work well with the hive and don’t conflict with the opinions there; either people who don’t share these viewpoints get tired of butting heads with the hive or the hive finds ways of terminating those who don’t fit the mold.
Either way, having breakfast with Scott I realized that though he was a particularly handsome and charming member of the hive, he was very much an Obama cultist — albeit one who didn’t rant and rave and scream and yell like others I’d known all too well here in Chicago.
He was polite to me, and wrote well of me in his article…but the whole time he sat across from me he insisted there was no way that Obama would not have a second term. This had to be in late-spring/early summer of 2010, before any of the big Town Hall protests against Obamacare and all the fire that went into the mid-term elections. If you remember correctly, Democrats and the media kept insisting that voters would love Obamacare so much they’d strengthen the Democrat majority in Congress and would retain Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. Even the White House was seemingly caught by surprise because Bob Woodward’s new book claims that Obama didn’t even have John Boehner’s phone number when it was required time to congratulate him on his presumed Speakership.
It was clear to me that Democrats would lose big in 2010. Anyone paying the least bit of attention to the Tea Party or who’d walked around a city like Chicago and saw there was no hope or change to be found could have told you that Democrats were in for a beat-down of epic proportions.
I remember telling Scott as much, and him laughing at me. Not rudely, because he really was very nice, but he kind of smirked and told me that I was just wishful thinking because Americans loved Obamacare and that Barack Obama was already one of the greatest presidents ever. Scott may have been drinking coffee at breakfast, but the guy was full of Kool-Aid.
The corrupt media is really and truly out of touch with what’s really happening in this country.
I used to think it was mainly that they knew what they were saying were lies but they’d say it anyway because they had to, but now I actually realize that guys like Scott actually think they’re telling the truth when they write these stories about “Obama’s second term” that’s so inevitable to them and how “Obama’s going to win Ohio”. They honestly believe this, because they are fed polls that have been deliberately manipulated to give them the results they want to see.
I can recall the shock and apoplectic reactions the talking heads had on TV during Election Night 2010. I thought Chris Matthews was going to have a Tim-Russert-grade coronary right in the MSNBC studio. Somebody must have gotten him an aspirin in time, because he lived…but they’d better stock up on that stuff for November 6th.
Last year, I got to talk to another young guy like Scott who happened to work for a marketing company that was doing a gig for Disney in Chicago; this guy’s job was to promote John Carter…a film about Martians and not the continuation of ER on the big screen. Just like Scott, this kid named Jim was adorable and seemed to believe every word he was saying when he told me that Disney had an epic hit on its hands and that there’d even be a giant refurbishment of Tomorrowland at Disneyland based on John Carter. I think the only exposure to the source material that Jim ever had was what Disney provided him, an the memorized all his brochures and folders and then set out to do stage John Carter events around Chicago. He said John Carter would be the hit of the summer and bring in huge merchandise sales and the whatnot…and I wish I had kept in touch with him because I would have loved to have heard his response when the movie bombed, as anyone outside of Disney could have told them it would. My boyfriend Justin is a big SciFi fan and he read all the “Mars” books by Edgar Rice Burroughs when he was a kid…and even he took one look at the trailer and promotional art and told me the film would tank.
I can see Democrats tanking in 2012…but the media figures like Scott Conroy and the rest don’t see how Obama can fail them, because he is everything their professors in college told them the “magical black first president” would be. They don’t see a possibility that Obama will lose just as the Disney PR guy Jim couldn’t imagine the House of Mouse losing $200 Million on a box office turkey set on the red planet.
Scott and Jim are good guys…but they believe their own hype.
And, honestly, both of them work hard in PR selling a brand. Jim just does it openly by working for a marketing company.
You need to understand that Scott and all the other “journalists” out there work for the Democrat Party even if they are being paid by RealClearPolitics or CBS or whomever. Almost all of what you read online at non-independent sites and everything you hear on TV is marketing spin designed to help Democrats.
That’s why you should cancel your newspaper subscriptions, stop watching MSNBC or CNN, and start more actively looking for your own news sources in your own communities (be they online or in your neighborhoods). The media constantly lies to you and presents only positive information about Barack Obama’s chances because the media wants him to win and telling you the truth about how badly he is really doing in this race would hurt him…and these loyal cultists will never, ever do anything to harm the magical first black president that their professors taught them to pine for and ultimately serve.
They really think it was a miracle that we finally had a magical black president and they are doing everything the can to make sure he does not fail in his re-election attempt.
Even nice guys like Scott in his Obama Underoos are doing this.
They’re all doing it.
Time for you to start realizing that and tuning these guys out.
