Senator DeMint may enter the field of 2012 candidates

Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC)

Yesterday was an interesting day in the field of potential GOP candidates.  Rep Mike Pence (R-IN) dropped out of the race and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) is rumored to be considering a run.  I sometimes feel like we’re discussing  the Kentucky Derby instead of the GOP primaries.  They both have a field of contenders complete with “favorites” and “long shots”.  One may move ahead in the polls one day only to drop back the next.  We still have a long way to go in this race so I think we need to pace ourselves. 

Fox News is reporting that an aide told a CNN reporter that Senator DeMint would consider a run for the GOP nomination if the field of candidates appears to be not popular or conservative enough.  I like Senator DeMint…a lot.  He’s quiet and gets the job done and he’s very conservative.  Is he too conservative for the independents or is he too “another white male republican candidate?  What does the GOP establishment think of  him?  If  he should get the nomination, would you throw your support behind him?  That’s a questions that I have been wanting to ask everyone…. 

Will you throw your support behind the GOP nominee…no matter who it is?

Even a soggy cucumber and mayonnaise candidate?

    To answer your specific question, yes, I will vote for the Republican candidate, probably no matter who he/she is. I cannot bring myself to EVER vote for Obama, and I cannot NOT vote.

    The key is to ensure that the Republican party puts up a decent candidate. Pence didn’t have a chance…not really sure DeMint does either, even though, I do like him.

      DeMint, too, is a nice man with no chance of winning a national election. As one guy with two capital letters in his last name, I can say that about another.

      Nice, old, white, men need to sit this next election out. 2008 was an old, white, male year. 2020 or 2028 (depending on if Allen West runs in 2020) can be another one. The Cocktail Party needs to sit a couple of elections out while we get the country back on track before they help ruin it again by nominating someone in the Bob Dole/John McCain old, white, male department.

      The 45th president will be a woman, and her name shall be SARAH THE BOLD.

        Jim DeMint, if he is a real conservative, should step aside, do a good job in the Senate where the GOP needs him, stop being a competition to who will ensure Obama a run for his money in 2012: Sarah Palin.

        The left is watering its mouth because DeMinnt is from SC and might affect Sarah’s chances to get the expected blow out in this state.

        With Huckabee in Iowa, Romney in New Hamphire and possible DeMint in South Carolina, the left knows a stiff competition awaits Sarah in those early states. The left knows South Carolina is the state where Sarah must be defeated at all cost.
        The importance of this state is: FLORIDA and TEXAS. Whoever wins SC is sure to sweep the rest of the traditional conservative sourthern states.
        And whoever does that clinches the nomintion!

        Jim DeMint better backs off, but even if he persists, Sarah could even defeat him, but I could not bet on that one.

        I would rather see this man backing off and let Sarah sweep the state and get her way. But if he insists, Sarah’s supporters and TEA partiers would be so mad and the last word would be on NIKKI HAILEY.

        I believe she wins any ways. Her popularity in the state is sky high and bunch of hunters and middle class white women and vetarans live in the state!

          Carmelo, I’m curious why you think Huckabee is a shoe-in in Iowa. Sarah wasn’t even in the race during the Iowa Caucuses in 2008. I think Sarah could kick Huck’s butt in Iowa, assuming the left doesn’t infiltrate the Republican caucuses.

            I’m not taking anything for granted, like the disastrous Hillary Clinton’s campaign. Hillary thought she had the nomination in the bag and Obama and Edwards stole her mojo.

            Huckabee is still very popular in the state. If Sarah sourounds herself with lazy people that would not attack Huckabee(think Maurice Clemmons), Huckabee might truce her in Iowa.
            Sarah’s folkzz should start attacking Huckabee with his rapists-cop muderers pardonner record from NOW!

    I don’t know if this is the case for American searchers, but if you google DeMint, you get suggestions like “caused the recession”, “caused the depression”, “recession”.

    The left is already onto him. (Remember, Google pay a LOT of money to the Dems in return for not getting grief over their offshore accounts.)

    That could be a good sign or it could be a disaster.

    Demint is a middle aged white guy. But he is NOT a cucumber and mayonniase sadnwich. He could win Iowa. He wins Iowa, he wins SC and he wins nomination. People get pissed enough he could win in Nov. I am not certain that Palin is running. I could easily get behind him. The field right now is pretty bad (assuming Palin does not run) except for maybe Huckabee. Maybe Gingrich. I could easily get behind Demint

      Good night! Huckabee’s horrible. He’s a smarmy, creepy, nanny-stater who thinks Michelle Obama’s on to something. Huckabee is the candidate who would be most likely to make me forget to vote in Nov. (I mean, I’d do it. I think. But yuck.)

        Huckabee and Romney are the WORST of politicians the GOP has.
        McCain at least has a great military service on his resume.
        DeMint is a staunch conservative.
        Gingrich is a wise and savy politician.

        Other than that, crap as candidates.

      DeMint has no charisma, no executive experience, no military experience, not telegenetic, not experience with cameras, NOTHING!

      He would be the Republican Jimmah Carter. There is no way that the man should EVER be considered as a candidate for that job.

      He is one of the most unsuitable.

      I would place Newt Gingrich above Huckabee.

      No, the only other one is John Bolton if he decides to run.

    I think he boycotted CPAC due to all of the Grover Norquist type influence going on there. CPAC has become a mish mash of lobbyist type groups vying for attention, they no longer represent Conservatives.
    DeMint is a great guy but likely far too nice and gentlemanly to be elected.

    Here’s my feeling on DeMint running (with bonus why-Ryan-shouldn’t-run-either):

    The presidency isn’t the only game in town. It’s one very important position, but the president can’t accomplish all that much just by herself. She needs other awesome people elsewhere in the government to get stuff done. We need principled Tea Party-style people in the Senate – both now and in 2012. Given the choice between DeMint spending the next year kissing pigs and babies in Iowa on the very off chance he’ll get to run against Obama or kicking ass in the Senate, I vote Senate.

    Similarly, Paul Ryan. No sooner does he get to be the chair of the budget committee than people start talking about him running for president. Now, he may already be the President of Adorable, but honestly, the man was born to be in charge of the budget committee. Maybe he can run in, like 2028, once he’s saved the country from the budget crisis and maintained fiscal sanity for a decade or so, but the President’s going to need him on her team, doing a brilliant job on the budget from the House once she takes office in 2012.

    The key strategic point here, that I think Republicans often miss, is that it’s not all about the Presidency. If you want to really get stuff done when you have your gal in office, you have to make sure that her team is in place in every branch of government. That’s why we need people like DeMint and Ryan to stay exactly where they are and do their jobs well.

      Good thing Ryan doesn’t WANT to be President – at least not now when his kids are little. I even love him for not wanting to be President because of the negative impact it would have on his family! Wow! A guy who cares a lot about the wife and kids instead of feeding his own ego! I agree, we need to keep him in the House managing the budget until his kids grow up. I pray he will have a strong relationship with our next President when she gets elected!

      Absolutely Katie. I keep saying the same thing. We need principled people in the Congress. We need principled judges. We need prinicipled US heads of departments (which we can only get if we have a principled Congress.)

      DeMint is just fine fighting the battle where he is. Paul Ryan, bless his cute little heart, should just keep plowing away at those numbers and being a thorn in Democrats’ sides.

      I agree too, Katie. We cannot spare DeMint out of the Senate. Besides, DeMint is excellent at providing negative sound bytes. MSM will be all over him. He is no where near as good as Sarah at articulating a conservative message.

      I like him very much, but I doubt he will generate as much grassroots enthusiasm to work for him for free. If he runs despite Sarah announcing, we will know the GOP boys have gotten to him.

    I want Sarah Palin for president. But if for some reason she doesn’t run or can’t get the nomination, then yes, I would vote for whoever the Republican nominee is…I hope everyone here would do the same. Some things are bigger than personal preference. Ensuring that the Obama administration doesn’t get 4 more years to disassemble our country is one of them.

      Marco Rubio can’t do it, Jeb Bush can’t do it, Romney and Huckabee could be a disaster and DeMint is a guarantee ACORN and the Obama girl will be back to life.

        Get it through your head, unless Rubio’s parents were citizens at the time of his birth he is not NBC and is ineligible to be POTUS.

    I love Jim DeMint! Read his book Saving Freedom and you’ll be impressed. I think for a long time, he has been a ‘Tea Party’ voice before there was a Tea Party. Many times he has been the lone, lonely voice standing up for what’s right in the Republican party.

    In fact, he is the one who is using Senate Rule 14 to force a vote on Obamacare repeal in the Senate.

    I highly prefer DeMint over Daniels, Huckabee, Romney, Huntsman, Thune, etc…

    DeMint is no soggy cucumber sandwich. And he’s def not DC politics as usual. Can he win? I don’t know. I do know, SC has a great conservative man as their Senator.

          The real Dream Team, the team that has the left running for the hills and that they pray to Allah never happen is PALIN/RUBIO.

          Right now, bunch of independents and bunch of Reagan democrats are talking about this posibility and the Left knows is in the air. This ticket could represent a LANDSLIDE for Sarah Palin. Not just 280 electoral votes but maybe 390 elctoral votes.

          The possibility of this historic ticket has the left trembling. They know is coming and if you see Sarah recent videos, Marco is in PROMINENCE in those videos. A PALIN/RUBIO ticket is coming!

            It certainly would be an interesting issue for the MSM/Left (one in the same) to bring up (eligibility). Øbama hands down was never eligible to be president, regardless of where he was born. Any finger pointing at Rubio would end up being pointed back at the usurper-in-chief.

    Read his book, Saving Freedom and you’ll be impressed. He has long been the lone, lonely voice for conservatism in the Republican party. The voice of the tea party, before there was a tea party.

    He is no Huntsman, Romney, Daniels, Huckabee, etc…

    He is the one Senator who is pushing Senate Rule 14…to force a vote in the Senate on repealing healthcare.

    I will back the Republican nominee. No matter who it is. Perhaps a Palin/DeMint ticket?? :-)

    As for your question about voting for the Republican against Obama, I did it in 2008 (even though I had to hold my nose on the McCain part of the ticket) and I will do it again in 2012, if need be. I cringe when I think of Romney or Huckabee leading the ticket in 2012. But a lot can happen between now and November 2012.

    The situation in Egypt is chaotic. Please PRAY. 2012 prophesies could become true if Egypt falls in hands of muslim extremists. With Iran in the verge of building nukes, we don’t need Middle East’s second best Army falls into the hands of extremists!!!

    I voted for McCain, or rather Sarah in the last election as well.

    Although the primary for the Dems was obvious theft, there were many things in the Rep. primary that were fishy.
    Fred Thompson, one of the few conservatives, ran such a bad campaign, I can’t imagine he was even trying. I think he was installed to run to split the conservative vote. Candidates sat out in some states, not even giving the voters a chance to vote for them, therby a lesser candidate won that state. McCain, was so broke, he didn’t even have money for a bus, but was driving around in an SUV. And yet, he supposedly won.

    I think we tip our hand when we say we will vote for whomever gets the nomination.
    I would like put the elites on notice that we will not vote in the general election for the person THEY think best. Also, I want to see how the primaries are ran. There are just too many ways for the elites to get their guy the nomination that are legal, but unethical. And, not the voters choice.

    Imagine if after the dem primary theft, Hillary had run as a 3rd candidate. We wouldn’t now have Pres. Obama.

    I’ll work my heart out for Sarah in the primaries (heck, I’m doing it now before she’s even declared), but if she loses the primaries I will hold my nose to vote for the Republican nominee. I cannot ever vote Obama and will do what I have to do to make sure he isn’t reelected. Sitting this one out just isn’t an option, even if I have to vote cucumber & mayo.

    I am praying that Republicans will put forth a candidate in 2012 that I can vote for without holding my nose. I’m so tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. I admire DeMint’s conservative values and the fact that he seems to act on them and is not just all talk. I cringe every time I hear Romney may be the frontrunner. I like Gingerich but think he has too much baggage to get elected. I don’t think Palin could win yet but would like to see her on the ticket again as VP with a strong conservative male – such as Allen West. Wouldn’t the libs go absolutely nuts? Makes me smile just to think about it.

    I will be voting against Obama. I pray that the R’s run a moral, brilliant, fearless candidate that can win in November. But there is no way that I can vote for Dr. Utopia and there is no way I can stay home and “let” him win. I will crawl over glass to get to the polls.

    Ok folks…Marco Rubio is most definitely eligible to run for President according to the 14 Amendment (article 1, section 8, clause 4). Which states:

    The 14th Amendment defines citizenship this way: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” But even this does not get specific enough. As usual, the Constitution provides the framework for the law, but it is the law that fills in the gaps. The Constitution authorizes the Congress to do create clarifying legislation in Section 5 of the 14th Amendment; the Constitution, in Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, also allows the Congress to create law regarding naturalization, which includes citizenship.

    Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in the gaps left by the Constitution. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are “citizens of the United States at birth:”

    •Anyone born inside the United States *
    •Any Indian or Eskimo born in the United States, provided being a citizen of the U.S. does not impair the person’s status as a citizen of the tribe
    •Any one born outside the United States, both of whose parents are citizens of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S.
    •Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year and the other parent is a U.S. national
    •Any one born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for at least one year
    •Any one found in the U.S. under the age of five, whose parentage cannot be determined, as long as proof of non-citizenship is not provided by age 21
    •Any one born outside the United States, if one parent is an alien and as long as the other parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for at least five years (with military and diplomatic service included in this time)
    •A final, historical condition: a person born before 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mother who has lived in the U.S.
    * There is an exception in the law — the person must be “subject to the jurisdiction” of the United States. This would exempt the child of a diplomat, for example, from this provision.

    Anyone falling into these categories is considered natural-born, and is eligible to run for President or Vice President. These provisions allow the children of military families to be considered natural-born, for example.

    Remember…he was born in Miami.

    DeMint is not at the top of our concern list – BUT

    he some splaining to do about his remarks in 2008:

    1) DeMint was Senior Advisor to Romey’s Exploratory Committee

    2) DeMint said he has never seen a person “LIGHT UP A ROOM LIKE MITT ROMNEY SINCE RONALD REAGAN”

    3) Did DeMint retract/amend that statement when sarah came on the scene days later?

    4) On RomneyCare (ObamaCare 1.0) DeMint said we should do RomenyCare for the whole country!

    Do you think the DEMS LSM are salivating for both Romney and DeMint to rise up the charts of the primaries to as to compelely take Obamacare off the table?

        we know everything about every day of Sarah’s life and we know nothing about these other candidates that the LSM and establishment want us to hear. we owe it to ourselves to know everything this time around

        This guy is double toast! Pushing a Mormon in South Carolina is like pushing a Catholic in Utah.

        I wish those knuckle heads in C4P blog or other Sarah friendly blogs stop being so soft and start attacking these frauds.

        C4P has the “politically correct” symdrome since they first started. They are afraid of attacking Obama as FRAUD and a closet Muslim
        and afraid to attack these fake conservatives. Something is wrong with the C4P fraud and is they are not 100% sure of Sarah and have any of these white men as alternative.

        Actually, RAM(Rebecca Mansour, founder of the blog) was trying hard to work for Obama’s campaign. Pricelesssssss!

      Thanks for posting this. I was not aware of these comments by DeMint.

      Overall, currently, he’s still doing a great job for Conservatives in the Senate. Perhaps he should stay there and keep doing that…and absolutely stop making comments like the ones above.
