Royal Wedding Thread

William and Kate

What a beautiful ceremony.  I got up at 5am to watch and it was well worth it.  Kate was beautiful….William (and Harry) were handsome…..the hats in the crowd were very entertaining (some pretty, some outrageous).  The Obama’s , of course, weren’t there  (tee-hee).  Queen Elizabeth looks amazing for 85.  Diana is smiling down on this glorious day.  God bless William and Kate.  May they have a long and happy marriage.

What do you guys think?

"The Dress"

Did you like Kate’s dress?  (I loved it)

Did you like the ceremony? (two thumbs up from me)

Loved the gown and the fact that it was a simple wedding (no bridesmaids or grooms)…. Had happy thoughts of Nancy Reagan at William's parents wedding…remember the US press called her "Queen Nancy?"…. how delightful that MO wasn't there!….

Another thought… Loved all the gowns…Pippa's was elegant…her mother delightful…. But what happened to Fergie's kids?…….What were they thinking?… and what about Eugenie's hat sculpture?… in my mind a faux pas

I love Kate's dress. And I love that her veil actually looks like a veil, not a tiara with some taffeta stuck on it.

I loved everything about the wedding ceremony – the music, the scripture reading and the wedding homily were wonderful. I loved Kate's gown and particularly the veil – very Grace Kellyish. I also loved that the bride and groom seemed so happy. Kudos to the wedding planners.

The designer did a great job on that gown. It is classic bridal complete with a train as befits the occasion. The fashion world are comparing Kate to Grace Kelly.

Kate is now the Duchess of Cambridge.

As soon as I saw the dress (yes, I got up at 5 AM to watch) I thought, "How lovely. Simple and elegant, reminds me of Grace Kelly – and my mother, surprisingly." Kate's dress looks very much like my mother's did. I'm so glad she didn't choose something like Diana's (which I thought was ugly at the time and I still do) but something classic and elegant instead. I hope that this ushers in a new wave of bridal design. Most women can't pull off the strapless look that has been in vogue for 10 – 15 years.

As for the ceremony, it was a classic Episcopal ceremony, with the added flourishes of an orchestra and huge choir. Classy and elegant.

As for the Obamas not being invited, I wish it had been a slap in the face for the way Obama treats the Brits, but I'm told it was because, since WIlliam is not DIRECTLY in line for the throne (his father is still living, after all) his wedding is not a state occasion, therefore most heads of state were not invited. But all the same, I was glad not to have to look at Moochelle in whatever ugly getup she would have worn.

Even if invited, they likely would have been last minute cancellations due to the devastation in Alabama. But then again, maybe they would have been tacky and selfish and gone anyway! Alas, we'll never know!

Apparently the Prime Ministers were an appropriate invite, since the QUEEN is considered the titular head of state for ALL of Great Britain, rather than the various Prime Ministers. I guess the Speaker of the House would have been the American equivalent, but they didn't invite any American politicians. At least that's how they described it on the news.

Kate was simply smashing; so natural and beautiful. William was pretty dashing in that scarlet uniform.

Some of those hats, the wearers and designers should be banned. The older woman in the electric lime green made my eyes water.

Harry and Pippa was simply gorgeous.

Loved everything too. I got up at 3 am to watch; even my husband watched the entire thing. Pure class. This is a lovely young couple and I was very pleased to see a traditional church service, a very elegant and classy gown, the bride looked beautiful as did her sister and mother. I agree that Harry is great fun to watch. I think this is a very nice young couple and I wish them a very happy life. I was also struck at the difference between this couple and the looks they exchanged with each other, and the cold, unemotional look on Charles' face when he married Diana. Of course, this is through the retrospectoscope, but I felt a true warmth in everything I saw today, including the two balcony kisses. God Bless them.

When I saw William come into the Abbey to greet everyone, he had a shy smile and downcast eyes which reminded me of Diana's entrance into St. Paul's 30 years ago. As badly as his father's generation has behaved, these two appear to have learned from all of them and will be focusing outside themselves and on their service to God and Country and Queen. Maybe they will be able to turn our crass culture back to one of dignity and graciousness. When they road back down the Mall – they were restrained and composed – so unlike that uncouth Sarah Ferguson who practically jumped up and down in the Landau!

The wedding was beautiful. Very tastefully done, understated and elegant. I think it reflected Kate’s humility and respect for the family she is marrying into that she kept things rather simple. The class system is still alive and well in the UK, and she is a “commoner”. The wedding was fit for a princess, yet managed to reflect her non-royal background as well. Despite all the pomp, it seemed a very down-to-earth affair. I only wish I could have been there in the crowd! I was present for the jubilee in 2002 and it was an amazing experience.

    It. Was. Lovely.

We had a bit of a tea party (hey! a pun!) at my parents' house. We had the women who remembered taking days off work for Diana's wedding mixed with twenty something college and career gals. Ach, the spread – I think I've eaten my fill for the day.

And the ooh-ing and ah-ing, and the sighs. There are a couple of killjoys in Ireland complaining about monarchy and 800 years of oprezzzzzzsobored…. The rest of us don't care; we just wanted a nice day.

And I adored Katherine's dress – the little bustle at the back was beautiful, and I suspect the train can be detached so that it looks more like Pippa's.

Dittoes what Pam said. Just lovely all around. I was up before 4 to watch all the arrivals too. Seeing the boys emerge from Clarence House in their uniforms…swoon! And then Catherine in her veil…swoon again. Just beautiful, as were her family. I love that by injecting some Spencer genes into the Royal gene pool we got the handsome and tall Princes, and now with the Middleton genes, the next heir may be a knockout! I thought the Queen looked beautiful in yellow, and the homily was full of genuine wisdom and good advice.

You know, excellent point on the Middletons. Classy and elegant all the way around. The royals, on the other hand… Do Andrew's daughters OWN a mirror? WHAT were they thinking with those hats? And the dress on the daughter who wore the blue thing. Did you see that hem? I realize they are young, but they both need to take some fashion lessons from their Aunt Sophie.

I'm just so happy that Mooshelle wasn't invited and didn't have a chance to embarrass our nation. I'm sure that Mooshelle was busy picking out a nice sofa cover to wear when she found out she and Obi were not invited. What I also liked were the trees and the green-and-white flower arrangements – it looked lovely. And I loved everybody wearing little sprigs of lilly-of-the-valley, it looked nice and unpretentious.

What did you think of the reading? Didn't Catherine's brother do that simply magnificently?
I've got to say, the whole Middleton family showed class – unlike two certain Princesses I don't need to name.

Did you notice that every time Prince William saluted, at the Cenotaph and when passing groups of the Life Guards, Catherine bowed her head? A classy couple, both knowing and accepting what's in store for them. Above all though, their happiness shone through.

What a wonderful day – and it didn't rain one drop!

Harry looked killer, and sort of stole the show. That kid has charisma! Lovely wedding, William and Kate seem like a great couple. Best wishes for a happy healthy long life together. Pippa's dress was to die for, perhaps a bit slinky for my taste. The maid of honor shouldn't be quite so va va va voom. She rocked it, that's for sure. Well, maybe they're trying to marry her off now. Fergie's kids looked like the ugly stepsisters from Cinderella, Portia and Joy. One of whom seemed to be wearing antlers. All in all, a fun early morning of pageantry.

I only saw the end of the ceremony and the carriage ride to Buckingham Palace. Kate's dress was simple and elegant and very classy. William looked handsome, but Harry is a total lady-killer. That mischievous smile is heart-stopping.

Beatrice's hat was terrible – at first I thought it was a $ sign on her head – but I guess the hat drew everyone's glance away from her racoon-like eye makeup. It just proves you can't buy class.

I did notice the horse running loose during the procession to the palace. I was really worried that someone would get hurt by it, but I read the horse got back to the stables without incident. Whew!

Eugenie and Beatrice, Fergie's girls, looked like two-a-penny tarts. I believe it was Eugenie in the blue. Whichever she was, she looked like the saloon madam in a wild west movie. The other sister was well dressed, except for the reindeer hat.

Their choice of hats and dresses is no reflection on their morals or personalities. I just think they have less than stellar taste in clothes for as grand a time as a Royal Wedding.

God save the Queen! (I mean that.) Her family (minus said hats and dress) have done her proud.

Flawless execution of the entire ceremony. What a wonderful moment and take a much needed break from the hardship of reality and pretend like you did when you were a kid. I have to say this about the whole thing though,,,,I LOVED the military parade as well. Which doesn't get much attention. It is one of the few times that their military gets to be just as regal as the monarchs. You can see the pride in them when they execute each maneuver. How proud they must be, as well as their families to see them stand guard. William looked so confident and regal. Thank you William and Kate for the brief smile and inviting us ALL to share your wonderful moment.

It was beautiful. I loved how meaningful the ceremony was: wasn't it interesting that the service started with the three purposes of marriage: 1) children 2) to sanctify sexual activity (in other words to turn lust into sexual giving to the spouse) and 3) companionship.

It was just fun to see so many people enjoying themselves and just able to be happy for a nice couple!

Brits love their hats and the ones that were seen at the wedding were over the top. Absolutely loved seeing all the different fashions in head wear.

On another note, I found the singing of their National Anthem to end the wedding weird… as well as creepy… I can not fathom why anyone would sing to a monarch (although the praises to Barry come a second close)….

When you hear their anthem, you really think what makes us Americans…we don't worship people… I like the lyrics of our song better…. instead of God saving the "gracious, noble Queen…and wishing her a "long to reign over us"

We Americans sing to the only King we recognize: God!

    Our fathers' God, to thee,
    author of liberty, to thee we sing;
long may our land be bright
    with freedom's holy light;
protect us by thy might, great God, our King.

    (America's last stanza)

      As a closet Tsarist, I prefer Bozhe Tsarya Khrani . . .

Look at that dress. She scored a knockout!

Somewhere, Diana is smiling with pride and joy. She raised a man, indeed.

Congrats to the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

I knew the Obama's weren't invited, but Fergi's daughter Beatrice made sure Michelle Obama's hat made it to the ceremony.

The Royal Wedding was a not to miss historic event. The event signified many things. It was a glorious reminder and celebration of what the sanctity of marriage is. Secondly, it reiterated to a cynical and disgruntled world that marriage is a critical institution for health of husband and wife, and for families. Many of us, now in our late 30's early 40's realized with sobering reality *thirty* years has moved on since Diana as we sat tearfully watching her son start a new chapter in his life.

The message was clear: marriage is good.Tradition is good, in-fact the cornerstone of our society. It also showed the worlds most eligible bachelor in front of his family and 2 Billion people tell her he'd
protect, provide, and love her…forever — she too, with every drop of regality of a royal, promised
    to keep him.

It also returned us a Princess that has recaptured the imagination of women like Williams Mum did many years ago. She was effortlessly flawless, and chose a long sleeved wedding gown. A huge statement in 2011. Yesterday, also ended the reign of the “Brittany nation. Kate's reign begins. My six year old daughter who rose at 3:30AM PST to watch the wedding with me – now has her very own princess. That makes me feel delightful in what's to come.
