Romney’s Pennsylvania Coal Ad
The Romney camp is playing it smart once again, and developing ads for specific States. Obama’s coal policies are devastating that State, and this is an excellent counter to that. Bravo, Romney team!

Best part of the ad? Cameo shot of Paul Ryan. Blue eyes!
Okay, back to public policy. Thankfully, someone has FINALLY used Obama’s words against him and tied them directly to bad results.
I will also point out that carbon dioxide is the “pollutant” that is the easiest to deal with, the least harmful, the one that is naturally removed from the atmosphere. These people don’t care if mercury-filled lightbulbs are contaminating the groundwater but get wound up over some extra CO2 in the atmosphere, as if it’s easier to remove highly dispersed heavy metals from the groundwater than it is to plant an extra tree.
I have blue eyes.
I’ve been waiting for this ad for the entire campaign! I remember Obama saying in 2008 that he planned to bankrupt the coal industry. (In this ad he didn’t specifically say he would bankrupt the coal industry, he said if a power company wanted to build a new coal-fired plant, it would bankrupt them.) Then when he became president he had the EPA issue new regulations governing the building, expanding or refurbishing of coal power plants. In those regs they are requiring that any new coal-related building requires the use of technology THAT ISN’T EVEN AVAILABLE YET!!! That’s right. If you want to build or expand a coal-fired power plant, you have to use technology that doesn’t exist. So that, combined with the readily available natural gas they’ve been getting by using fracking (that the EPA also wants to outlaw) the power companies have converted their coal plants to natural gas. Which is bankrupting the coal companies. Thanks, Obama. I didn’t understand why states like West Virginia and PA voted for Obama back in 2008, and I really would not understand it now.
