Recall efforts are underway for AWOL Wisconsin Senators
A Wisconsin newspaper is reporting that residents are beginning to form committees to recall the senators who went missing this past week. So far, not one of the senators has slithered home but I bet it won’t be long. I would love to be at one of their town hall meeting when they finally have to face their constituents. Yow!
One particular senator (Robert Wirch) had better wear a wig to disguise himself because, according to news reports, the residents in his district are hopping mad.
BURLINGTON - Cheryl Herrick, 51, of Burlington, has a message for her “missing” state senator, Sen. Robert Wirch, D-Pleasant Prairie. “Come back and vote,” said Herrick, who works in retail. “Elections have consequences.”
Wirch, who represents Burlington and most of Kenosha County, is one of the 14 senate Democrats who fled Madison last week when the state Senate was scheduled to take a vote on Gov. Scott Walker’s proposal to essentially eliminate collective bargaining for public workers.
Wirch has not returned calls for comment for several days.
In downtown Burlington on Monday, the consensus among area residents selected at random was that Wirch should go back and vote. Many, including Herrick, said they would like to see Wirch recalled for avoiding his vote. By running away, he is not doing his job, said Kellie Kerkman, 39, of Burlington.
“All I see is this teaching our younger generation to run away from problems. It’s time to grow up,” said Kerkman, who owns Kerkman’s SplitEnds, a hair salon at 316 N Pine St.
Down the street, Carl Schultz, 61, of Twin Lakes, said Wirch should be fired for avoiding “his responsibility.”
He recalled firing a worker from his car part manufacturing business, Five Star Fabricating, for repeatedly missing work after receiving multiple warnings, he said.
“If they are hired to do a job, they should be there,” said Schultz, who feels that way about his employees and his state legislators.
And the possibility of a recall may become a reality.
Dan Hunt, 51, of Pleasant Prairie, where Wirch lives, is looking into forming a committee to recall the senator. So far he has 175 volunteers who have signed up to help circulate petitions to recall Wirch, he said as of Monday afternoon, but he said he would need about 300 volunteers to successfully launch a campaign. According to the Government Accountability Board he would need about 15,000 signatures for a recall election.
For now, Hunt said, he is waiting to see if Wirch goes back to vote.
“The longer he stays away, the greater the likelihood,” Hunt said of a recall effort
I say recall them all!

While the most visible issue is about what the WI governor is proposing, but the biggest issue is how this government is suppose to work. If you don’t have the votes, do you go whining about it and avoid doing your duty? No, you show up for work and what will be will be. My goodness, what a bunch of children we have – if you can’t have things your way, you’re not going to cooperate? Time to grow up and be an adult is what I would print in big, bold headlines!
They would ll have stayed but for a quorum regulation.
This is not “cowardice”, this is a ploy from people with no respect for representative government.
Much more outrageous is the abuse of their trust by physicians and teachers.
Dem Cowardice has spread to Indana:
“Seats on one side of the Indiana House were nearly empty today as House Democrats departed the the state rather than vote on anti-union legislation.”
http://www.indystar.com/article/20110222/NEWS/110222004/House-Democrats-flee-Indiana-stop-votes?odyssey=mod|breaking|text|IndyStar.com
The LSM has been portraying these duty shirkers as clever politicians who are manipulating the system in their favor.
Whatever happened to Obama’s mantra, “Elections have consequences”?
Sadly the Governor is backing down already. I hope he is just doing that to tempt the Democrats back into the state then hold a snap vote.
Let’s not forget who that Governor is. It’s Mitch “The VAT” Daniels who also recently came out in favor of Death Panels. By proposing Indiana NOT become a right-to-work state, he has completed his exposure as a RINO of the first order.
Glad Mitch Daniels outed himself so early for all to see – especially after Daniels and the media tried to convince us that his CPAC was the best (while pretending Allen West does not exist of course) and most importantly Daniel’s top credential was a fiscal conservative!
if this is what the cocktail party wants to sell us a fiscal conservative – say hello to the second Obama term
Lets remember that Mitch is rewarding bad behaviour by Democrats.
It is bad governing rewarding these cheap stunts. Republicans should know better
He’s an enabler.
I live in Indiana, unfortunately, and from the minute mitch d started mentioning his possible run for president I’ve been sick to my stomach. Thankfully this little incident will show the rest of America that mitch is as useless as tits on a turtle!
The Republicans didn’t flee to Canada when the health care vote happened.
But the quorum is being miss used. It is to prevent a party of law makers from running to the capital and passing anything they like without many members of the body being able to talk on the issue or vote.
Public workers would be better off without their unions. They would get more of their pay, and the Democrats would win less elections so people will be better off.
Republicans didn’t run to Canada? One word “filibuster”.
That’s because the democrat had enough without them.
Just got back from a counter-rally(SEIU) at the state capital in Denver. WOW, talk about trying to intimidate, talk about hate eminating from them. One guy came in our group and just start SCREAMING, veins popping, spittle flying.. They are getting CRAZED..
http://hotair.com/archives/2011/02/22/mitch-daniels-on-indiana-right-to-work-law-this-isnt-the-right-time/ Who is it that is pushing Mitch Daniels?? This will be the nail in his coffin.
Unfreaking believable
So much for that fool.
I had my doubts about him for some reason… now I know why. He has no spine. He must be one of those Rino’s who are part R + part D = black hole.
oops… NOT racially meant. Black Hole as in an outer space vacuum … sorry. No racial slurs intended.
He is TOAST!
Come and get it: Fleebagger WI Democrats will have to pick up paychecks in person..
http://michellemalkin.com/2011/02/22/come-and-get-it-fleebagger-wi-democrats-will-have-to-pick-up-paychecks-in-person/
Ummm… I’m confused. In that article it states it was voted on party lines. That 3 R’s voted for it, and 2 D’s voted against it. If this is in Wisconsin, how did they get 2 D votes? I hadn’t heard the ostrich D’s had pulled their heads out of the sand and showed back up yet. So… how did they vote? Or isn’t this Wisconsin?
Ok. I found the answer. They voted by fax. Now… if they count a vote by fax as a legit vote, then why can’t they call it a quorum and vote on the budget bill the same way?
http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/116655014.html
I guess the more answers I get the more questions I have…
This was a Committee vote. Rules, including how votes can be cast, can differ in committees than the full body.
The house of representatives (d) didn’t leave, it is only the State Senators(d) who jumped the WI ship.
I don’t see why they should get paid at all. Unauthorized absence from work – no pay!
It just goes to show what lengths the thieves will go to maintain the source of their largesse.
Ron
I hope IN’s dems never come back to vote. I’ll help with re-call vote efforts. The dumb chickens!

Is the White House Helping to Orchestrate a National Union Uprising? You be the Judge.
That whore slumlord VJ is saying,
“let’s not make this a national issue.”
Little late for that..
http://www.redstate.com/laborunionreport/2011/02/22/is-the-white-house-helping-to-orchestrate-a-national-union-uprising-you-be-the-judge/
the principle of when things don’t go your way run away is bad.
It means nothing in state Government can’t get done.
the GOP passed a ID law meaning voters need to show ID when they collect a ballot. Every country apart from America and Britain have these laws. Both countries the left has stolen elections due to fake ballots. Why are the Democrats against proving to government who you are on election day.
Why are the Democrats against people having the right to be or not be in a teachers union.
In NJ the teachers union has a budget of $100 million. It is a small state. Why do teachers need to pay for such an oversized insitution.
It is clear the Democrats are against the national interest and for their own interest groups.
We need to take down the unions, everyone benefits. the public sector works will be better off without their union leaders.
Rae – again I come back to the democrats modeling after the marxists. One of the first things the Bolsheviks had done in the USSR was the workers into a union. That makes no sense to me since the state sets the wages, and I posed this question with a friend of mine who grew up during the Soviet period. He said that it was required for one to be in a union. The union in this country robs the individual of freedom because you are not allowed to speak for yourself, but communication can only occur for the collective. During the 1940s, the communists infiltrated the unions in this country, and fortunately for the most part, union leaders recognized this and kicked out the infiltrator. But not today… I had read that the teachers union recognize the power that they have over their rank and file as well as the owners that they wanted to be sure that they have a hefty budget to force things through.
I am pointing out that they are not the moderate center party of America.
We live in a day that every Democrat elected to a majour office is more Liberal that Senator Snowe.
Some are more right than Lincoln Chaffe, but he is not a Republican anymore.
Unlike Wisconsin, Indiana has a 3 day time limit that they can be gone from the House for, or they will be in contempt of the state constitution, also Daniels cannot call them back, the remaining members of the House have to. I doubt they will have much problem mustering that vote.
By the letter of the law they are already in contempt, because they did not seek permission from the rest of the House to leave to another place.
Gov Walker held a “fireside Chat” on Wisconsin tv this evening. This was the only place I could find a video of it:
http://www.cspan.org/Events/Gov-held-Fireside-Chat-on-Budget-Deficit/10737419751-1/
There was a rebuttal from one of the missing D’s. This was the only place I could find that video. Scroll down- sorry:
http://hotair.com/archives/2011/02/22/wisconsin-senate-committee-passes-new-rule-senators-must-collect-their-paychecks-in-person/
I listened to these live on local tv. I started yelling right from the start when I heard the D talking. If I remember right, he talked about rights that were given by the Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address. That’s what got me yelling. Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address talked about unions??? And he’s a representative for the teachers huh?
“Unions are the schools for communism.”
V.I.Lenin
Liberalism is a tyranny of pressure groups.
Just read on Michelle Malkin that a new rule has been passed: Paychecks for those who have missed sessions must be picked up in person. Love that.

I live in Pleasant Prairie and am unlucky enough that Wirch lives in my neighborhood. If he doesn’t put his butt back in his Senate Chamber seat, he can pack up his stuff and leave the neighborhood because we don’t want him here. We have Village officials he could learn a few lessons from on responsibility, morals and ethics. He doesn’t deserve his salary which is our Tax Dollars. Wirch you are a coward.
Ok, here’s a better one of the Gov Walker Fireside Chat this evening:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdS61w8HXG4&sns=em
Now I just need to find a better one of the D rebuttal.
Ok, here’s the D reply. Listen carefully to where he says they have the rights the unions are wanting. I wonder how he ever got elected as stupid as he appears to be based on those inane statements?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVA4ktlH3u0
He talks about a democratic process, and then his cronies flee the state. How utterly pathetic.
Wonder if Chicago Mayor-Elect Rahm Emanuel will cooperate in sending back the fleebaggers. OK, just kidding.
Isn’t this just simply lovely? You elect these yokels as your reps, and what do they do instead of their job? They tuck their tail between their legs and run where there is an impending vote they could possibly lose. Excuse me Wisconsin, is this a STATE or a 4th grade classroom where some of the kids who didn’t study for the test suddenly have to run to the nurse or the bathroom??? This is one of the most pathetic things I have seen, regardless of party affiliation. Every one of these scared little kids needs to be sent packing and perhaps then Wisconsin can vote in some politicians that have a set and wont run when they are afraid of the outcome of a vote! I’m not blaming Wisconsin, I have relatives there (poor things and their frigid winters) I am blaming the so called politicians that were elected, and I would be equally as mad at them no matter what side of the aisle they are on! And, just think, the tax payers will be paying these jack wagon’s pensions and medical care for the rest of their unnatural lives!
Hey guys–careful. According to CNN, more Republicans would be at risk for recall than Democrats, which is why the Governor quietly doesn’t want the “recall” movement to really take flight. Remember, you don’t need ANY legitimate reason for a recall at all–just signatures–and there are more than enough union members in some districts to get some vulnerable Republicans (several won by less than 5 percent of the vote last election!) to get ousted… So a recall movement statewide would actually just divide the state even more and make it a mad scramble for voters to oust whomever they feel like–and in the end, produce no difference–and perhaps a worse result–for Republicans.
Here’s a thought. Is it possible that longer the fleabaggers stay away from their state, the closer they get to losing their residency status and eligibility to run for office again?
This has nothing to do with this post, but I needed to vent— what the hell is wrong with Chicago citizens??? Why the hell would you elect Rahm Emanuel to be mayor?
Either the people of Chicago are dumb lemmings, or there is something fishy in Denmark. I love Chicago, and I am from there but this is ridiculous.
LOL… Chicago is full of idiots. Can’t even think about living there it scares me. Good luck with that under the rock frog looking thing Rahm Emmanuel as your new Mayor Chicago what you get now you deserve because you voted him in. Obummer jr as a Mayor WOW.
I just felt like vomiting in my mouth when I read rahm actually got elected! This is sheer stupidity! Is everyone sure that rahm really got elected, or has it been fixed for him to win. I’ve known people from Chicago, they are not stupid people, so I just don’t understaned this!
self-selected not elected
the media reported that he won before the election was over and magically had just enough over the % needed to avoid a run-off
DOJ Civil Rights Division – when finished investigating the Black Panthers voter intimidation case – please investigate voter fraud in Chicago – sarc
Rahm won with 55% of the vote, Gery Chico was second with 24%. Media reported that Rahm won by a fairly significant margin BUT with far fewer votes than a normal mayoral race. Rahm got something like 300,000 votes…TOTAL.
I was at least hoping for a run-off. I voted for the person that I thought had the best chance to beat him in April and it still didn’t help. I guess people just assumed he would win so they didn’t bother voting. I’m sure my coworkers were tired of hearing me remind them to go vote.
I was just wondering while watching the news this evening, about “recalls” for these state senators. I’m so glad some of their constituents are working to do this. I’m sick and tired of elected officials thinking they can ignore and say “up yours” to the very people they were elected to serve.
Wisconsin has stripped the fleeing Democrats of pay.
How great is this. If Senators miss 2 days they don’t get paid unless they turn up on the Senate floor.
Republicans need to up their game, you need to expose what is wrong with current unions. Secondly The GOP needs to show it is on the side of good workers in Unions.
Plus these bills will make unions more accountable to the people.
Wisconsin’s GOP are not letting the ”Doctors” off for filling out medical forms either. I don’t care what side your on that was illegal and morally wrong. These get out of work forms for sick people need to be trusted by employers. It is a trust that shouldn’t be broken.
Even better, they have to get their paycheck from the Majority leader.
“Recall”is far too mild for these Fleebaggers…
Tar & feathers at the least…
It is appalling that Senators elected to represent the people Wisconsin run from their duties when things don’t go their way. I am ready to recall Senator Erpenbach. Send me the paperwork.
I believe the Senators are just complying with the will of the people. Several hundred thousand people over 5 days is just the tip of the iceberg. Find me state demonstrations of this magnitude anywhere else. I applaud the Senators and believe they are doing what they are paid to do. That is, protect their constituents.
I am not a union man but believe the gutting of the unions in the state is not the way to go.
As for the Democratic Senators being idiots, how about the Governor falling for a fake phone conversation and digging himself a few holes. If you want to talk about someone who needs to have his election repealed or be impeached, how about the Governor. It is more likely that he will face tougher questions than the state Senators.
Although I am not in favor of removing the collective bargaining rights, I do believe that something has to be done. It would be more responsible of the Governor to open talks with both sides, in an attempt to find a more acceptable way of dealing with the state’s deficit issues.
What a pack of gutless sissies.
1. They create the mess.
2. They lose power through an election.
3. They run like a pack of sissies to another state.
Recall, impeach, remove and start now!
WE the people voted to fix the out of control spending!!! then those that love out of control spending run and hide, then have someone elsa pay for the meals the rooms and what elsa. They should have to post who is paying !!!!!
Dear Arnie,
It is assumed that you did not do well in school or know how to use spell check. Elsa, I believe you meant to spell 'else'. Also, capitals are necessary at the beginning of sentences, and use 'who' not 'that.' There is also no need for multiple exclaimation marks, unless you are communicating with uneducated people to make a point.
don't support education
Okay….let's see who is paying for ALL the politicians' daily expenses, in all areas. Actually the Fantastic 14 paid for all their expenses out of their own pockets.
How IS the new road construction, instead of education, progressing in Wisconsin? Wisconsin which used to be a leader in education, is now going to be a leader in road construction!
