Question: is one of the world's largest advertising firms being paid by the DNC to attack moderate Democrats?

Posted on January 30, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Is one of the world’s largest advertising agencies, which Michelle Malkin linked to astroturfing attacks on Sarah Palin in 2008, involved in the libelous attacks against moderate Democrats (of the PUMA variety) who the DNC wants silenced for speaking out against Obama and what Liberals are doing in Washington now?

Is there any connection between David Axelrod and this agency?

Is there a connection between the agency and someone running a known PUMA-hunting site?

Is there a connection between that PUMA-hunting site and the January 20th libelous attack on individuals here at HillBuzz?

Does the DNC pay David Axelrod to subcontract this ad firm to recruit its employees to run PUMA-hunting sites that encourage unpaid, unstable, vociferous PUMA-haters (in foreign countries like England, no less), to attack private citizens, libel and defame them, ruin their businesses, and destroy their lives?

Is there a way, through the path in question, to directly link someone like Eamonn Sean O’Sullivan in Birmingham, England (alias: TheBigotBasher, the troll who attacked us on January 20th) up to Axelrod and Organizing for America?

Was Nixon’s White House ever involved in this kind of personal attacks on private citizens?

Sure are a lot of questions today.

Got any answers?

        (MQ-C waves hand!!!) Call on me I know!!!

        ‘Teh’ for ‘the’ was mentioned by the Boyz in a thread (from yesterday or possibly Thursday) about ‘how to spot a Troll posting.’

        Alot of the Troll missives are cut and paste jobs…and they do things like add parentheses w(ould) c(ould); child(ren)…and they will purpose mistype ‘easy’ words (gee…they were typing so fast with their unique ‘thought’ that they transposed ‘the’) That sort of thing.

        Actual, real live posters all have our styles/cadence…but the Boyz pointed out how the Troll Cut and Paste bunch are really a mishmash of prose.

        Get teh picture?

        The now private, pro-Hillary bitterpoliticz blog made up of former Taylor Marsh bloggers has been using the words “teh one” in reference to Obama for at least a year. I don’t remember how it came about, but I believe it to originally be a typo that the bloggers there just decided to use to mock Obama. I’ve always have found it kind of funny. It reminds me of incoherent drunk-speak, with “incoherent” being the word that best describes Obama supporters.

        “Teh” is simply a typo version of “the”. It’s become part of the Internet nerdy “leet” speak I think. I’m guessing it started in the old BBS days. It’s morphed into chat lingo, LOL-speak and other Internet communication types.

        The troll cutting and pasting may add something like that into their post to seem more “real”.

          Considering your additional info Tyrone, I now believe the “teh” could also have been a “secret signal” among Obama’s O-Boughts to signal who they were and who they were (are) working for election.

          They have to have some way to ID who isn’t really an O-Bought opposer and who is in their O-Bought 5th Column.

      I saw Lowden on Fox one day and liked her a lot. She was funny and articulate and really had a good take on Reid. I will look forward to your comments. I have decided not to contribute any cash to any RNC organizations, but rather to specific candidates like Brown and Rubio, according to what my research tells me. Though I will end up investing more in politics, I feel like I will have more control over where my dollars are spent. I suspect lots of us are handling things this way (witness Brown’s moneybomb) because we are so unhappy with the ways things are.

        Sue Lowden would be no different than Reid. In fact she donated thousands to Harry Reid’s previous campaigns. She disenfranchised many voters at the state convention when she was chairman of the State Republican Party. She voted pro choice. We Nevadans WILL get Harry out of office, but please don’t help us get a RINO like Lowden.

    The following article mentions the roles of Kevin Roberts, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, and David Axelrod in the marketing of the Obama brand…

    Naomi Klein on how corporate branding has taken over America
    http://www.reclaimthemedia.org/arts/activism/naomi_klein_how_corporate_bran1903

    [...]

    …When Obama was sworn in as president, the American brand could scarcely have been more battered – Bush was to his country what New Coke was to Coca-Cola, what cyanide in the bottles had been to Tylenol. Yet Obama, in what was perhaps the most successful rebranding campaign of all time, managed to turn things around. Kevin Roberts, global CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi, set out to depict visually what the new president represented. In a full-page graphic commissioned by the stylish Paper Magazine, he showed the Statue of Liberty with her legs spread, giving birth to Barack Obama. America, reborn.

    So, it seemed that the United States government could solve its reputation problems with branding – it’s just that it needed a branding campaign and product spokesperson sufficiently hip, young and exciting to compete in today’s tough market. The nation found that in Obama, a man who clearly has a natural feel for branding and who has surrounded himself with a team of top-flight marketers. His social networking guru, for instance, is Chris Hughes, one of the young founders of Facebook. His social secretary is Desirée Rogers, a glamorous Harvard MBA and former marketing executive. And David Axelrod, Obama’s top adviser, was formerly a partner in ASK Public Strategies, a PR firm which, according to Business Week, “has quarterbacked campaigns” for everyone from Cablevision to AT&T. Together, the team has marshalled every tool in the modem marketing arsenal to create and sustain the Obama brand: the perfectly calibrated logo (sunrise over stars and stripes); expert viral marketing (Obama ringtones); product placement (Obama ads in sports video games); a 30-minute infomercial (which could have been cheesy but was universally heralded as “authentic”); and the choice of strategic brand alliances (Oprah for maximum reach, the Kennedy family for gravitas, and no end of hip-hop stars for street cred).

      Well, it may be the most comprehensive packaging evah, but when opened up, it’s empteh. All image, no substance. And of course every person conditioned by a lifetime of television rushed right out to buy into the product. They lined up to vote themselves into it.
      When I told US Democrat friends in 2008 that this package was a complete fraud, because I had already seen it in eastern Canada with the Trudeau/Socialist phenomenon, they wouldn’t even listen to my points. And they still won’t admit to having been utterly conned by an illusion.

    It seems that terrorizing people via email is something that Saatch & Saatchi is familiar with…

    Saatchi Sued Over “Terror Marketing Campaign” for Toyota
    http://industry.bnet.com/advertising/10004176/saatchi-sued-over-terror-marketing-campaign-for-toyota/

    A California woman has sued Saatchi & Saatchi for an offbeat PR campaign for Toyota in which, she alleges, she was terrorized by a fictional English football hooligan who insisted — via email — that he was going to show up at her house with his pitbull and crash on her sofa while he avoided the police.

    The stream of emails to Amber Duik eventually ended with a reveal in an online video, per Courthouse News:

    Eventually an actor in the “movie” revealed that the entire ordeal was a hoax, and that Duik had been “punked” by Toyota as part of a marketing campaign for its Matrix automobile.

    The character, Sebastian Bowler, even has a MySpace page, Duik alleges. She claims she was “constantly in tears and shaking and sobbing in emotional distress” during his communications, which she described as a “terror marketing campaign.” The emails began:

    The first message said: “Amber Mate. Coming to Los Angeles. Gonna lay low at your place for a bit. Till it all blows over. Bringing Trigger.”

    The second message included Duik’s address, followed by the comment, “Looks all right mate! Nice place to hide out. We don’t need much though. Just a couch and a telly. Trigger don’t throw up much anymore, but put some newspaper down in case.”

    This was followed by messages in which Bowler described trashing a hotel room and run-ins with police.

    The final message stated: “Amber Mate. Had a brush with the law last night. Anyway, hopefully I will have lost them by the time I get to your place. Can’t wait to see you.”

    Saatchi did indeed run a prank-style campaign, titled “Your Other You,” in which consumers could sign up their friends to be the subject of hoaxes that ended with an ad for the Toyota Matrix. Jalopnik describes it here.

      Not to take the thread off topic…BUT since you mentioned Toyota…

      Rush Limbaugh had a caller today, a guy who worked for Toyota for years. He has moved onto a different ‘brand’ but he was pretty fired up to make the call.

      Why?

      Well according to him (and a couple car repair message boards I have visited–I am having fuel pump issues…thx Government Motors!) Toyota mechanics are having a hard time ‘recreating’ the gas pedal issue in shop (the current recall…NOT the previous one involving carpeting which really DID involve the pedal getting engaged in the carpeting).

      A fellow Buzzer, days ago, posted (on a Daily What’s On Your Mind thread?) about questioning the Toyota massive recall and sales cessation. The Buzzer was kind of dismissed…but now, thinking of the Limbaugh caller (they screen tightly so–nobody get on that they don’t want on); the blurbs on the car boards; the $1000 ‘sudden’ GM incentive (to ditch your Toyota); and now this little connection with Saatchi makes me wonder.

      Just a little.

      Anyway.. Axelrod had(s) two firms AKD&P and AKD. Plouffe was running them while Axelrod “stepped down” to work in the White House. Does anyone really believe those firms aren’t still working for him?
      I don’t. Especially now that Plouffe is back with Obama.

        The name “Patriot Majority” makes you think of a half-dozen guys who got together to support veterans who happen to be Democrats. WRONG. Patriot Majority is one guy- this guy- Craig Varogo. Varogo is a national political strategist for Democrats and former Communications Director for Senate Majority Leader Harry Redi. Varoga stated in this article from the non-partisan Campaign Legal Center that his group focuses on energy and health care policies, not on defeating Republican candidates. Really? They run direct hit ads on Paulsen and other Republican candidates all over the country.

        Out of $8.2 million total in contributions from the top 15 donors, $7.4 million explicitly came from unions. The two largest contributors in the 2008 cycle were AFSCME and SEIU, which are heavily allied with Democrats and the Obama administration. The two unions represent government workers at the state and federal levels, and in fact in combination provide almost all representation of public-sector employees.

    ASGK Public Strategies
    http://askps.com/

    Who We Are

    ASGK Public Strategies is a communication management firm founded by David Axelrod, Eric Sedler and John Kupper. Today the firm is led by Eric Sedler and includes the leadership of AKPD Message and Media. ASGK provides issue campaign management, message development and message delivery services to private sector and nonprofit organizations seeking to influence stakeholder opinion.

    What We Do

    At ASGK, we develop and manage communications campaigns with the same discipline, focus and intensity as we would a political campaign. We use the expertise we’ve gained running hundreds of political campaigns to bring the right communication approaches and tactics to public affairs and issue campaigns.

    We specialize in several fields:

    * Public Affairs
    * Corporate Communications
    * Message Development
    * Crisis Communications
    * Media Training
    * Brand Management
    * Advertising
    * Digital Media

    The common denominator in each of our projects is a disciplined focus on message development and message delivery. ASGK specializes in helping our clients determine their most powerful and persuasive messages. From there, we work with our clients to craft a plan to communicate the right message to the right audience using the most appropriate and cost effective mediums.

    Just as we did with the Obama campaign, we analyze the needs of each client and put together a team for each project based on the specific goals of the campaign and the most appropriate outside expertise. We know, for example, which researchers have the most experience with focus groups, and which are better suited for public opinion surveys. We know which firm creates the most compelling direct mail, and which vendor has the most thorough program for fielding automated phone calls. Building the right team for the project is one of the most important steps a campaign takes in its infancy; ASGK helps our clients do so from day one.

      From http://www.fec.gov/finance/disclosure/leadership.shtml

      Members of Congress and other political leaders often establish nonconnected committees, general known as “leadership PACs,” to support candidates for various federal and nonfederal offices. A leadership PAC is defined as a political committee that is directly or indirectly established, financed, maintained or controlled by a candidate or an individual holding federal office, but is not an authorized committee of the candidate or officeholder and is not affiliated with an authorized committee of a candidate or officeholder.

      Below is a list of Statements of Organization (arranged alphabetically by the name of the committee) where the statement indicates that the committee is a Leadership PAC. Because committees identify the Leadership PAC sponsor in several different ways, columns in the table are included to show all of them. Leadership PACs must identify themselves to the FEC because certain bundled contributions they receive from lobbyist registrants or PACs of lobbyist registrants must now be disclosed to the FEC.

    The sad/scary part is that there will be no official investigations. Did you notice how ACORN was defunded last fall with NO investigation? How can congress defund an organization and not investigate it first or later?

    If Nixon had supermajorities and a compliant press, would there have been any Watergate?

    Americans should be wary of allowing too much power to any one party.

    And thank goodness for bloggers. The only honest press out there.

      They re-instated the funds too. When the cameras are there, they de-fund. Camera’s go away, they re-fund.
      Not that the media doesn’t know about it.. They just don’t report it now.
