Political Ad Wars
The ad wars have begun.
The Obama camp released an ad that tells the story of a failed steel company(even though Romney no longer worked for Bain Capital when this steel company went under). This ad uses the “Rich Romney killed our jobs” tactic.
Romney’s camp fired back with an ad telling the story of a successful company, Steel Dynamics(SDI), that Romney’s investment capital helped. I will bet that the Romney camp has already shot a commercial for every successful company that Mitt had a hand in helping. You just watch. You’ll see these success story ads running non-stop for the next six months. This is the “Look how I created jobs in America” tactic.

You can’t let a little thing like *facts* get in the way of a good narrative, dontchaknow?
What these steel workers in the first ad don’t realize is that their company would not have lasted as long as it did without Bain Capitol. That’s what Bain does- it takes over failing companies that they thought had potential with some financial support and good business leadership. Some companies are so underwater with lifetime promises of healthcare benefits, pensions, golden parachute promises, and who knows what else, that I’m sure the decision came down to either eliminating those benefits in order for the company to survive or shut it down. I’m guessing the union wouldn’t budge so Bain Capitol had no choice but to let the company suffer the result of that which it had brought upon itself.
With the second company, Bain Capitol also saw potential and invested. Let’s hope the union doesn’t gain as much power and make such unreasonable demands that they cause this company to fail, too.
