Obama’s quest for an Internet kill switch continues (so he could silence all dissent)
Dear HillBuzz,
With all the news reports out of Egypt amid the chaos, is the report of internet cut off so that messages and news cannot get out over what is taking place on the streets. Obama has said that he does not want any interruptions to cell phones and internet. And yet here at home, we have regulators appointed by Obama trying to create a ‘reason’ to give executive authority for him to do just that, here. The ‘kill switch’ has been a hot topic since Iran’s elections. We are seeing this administration running roughshod over several areas of our lives.
Thanks to Trevor Loudon’s site out of New Zealand, they have researched a way for us to prepare in case anything like the ‘kill switch’ is implemented here. I will link it below. http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2011/02/when-government-switches-off-internet.html
Keep on top of these guys (the administration) as things start rolling along. They will become more desperate as WE THE PEOPLE fight back from their over-reach.

HA!!! The Republicans attached the kill switch bill to the Repeal Obamacare bill….HeeHeeHee
Do you have a link providing evidence of this, because if it’s true, a lot of people need to know so we can primary out whoever is responsible at their next election cycle.
I agree with Zilla. It is not funny.
If they did it because they wanted to kill it, then they have to think about how that could backfire.
I assume you are talking about the Senate.
They have to stop attaching bills that have nothing to do with each other.
When will they learn to stope being so damned irresponsible.
The Republicans attached the kill switch bill to the Repeal bill…..OMG. Pin a medal on them.
Is this true? And what is the kill switch bill? I hadn’t heard about a bill only the kill switch.
Seriously. What’s the 411 on this?
If Obama vetoes Obamacare repeal he veotoes the kill switch bill. Score I for the Republicans.
Oh, LOL I thought you meant that the Republicans had advocated FOR the kill switch! I have little kids who don’t let me sleep much, it makes me a little “duh” sometimes.
Ha!! Score one for the Grand Old Party!
Whew! Thanks for the clarification, Bev. When I read your post above this one, I thought “What the . . .?” Now I see what you meant.
But I just had another thought: What if Obama DOES sign the Obamacare repeal? Does that implement the kill switch?
Like the other poster above, I deplore this kind of gamesmanship. You know how we got Title IX that has basically wiped out many mens college sports programs? A Republican senator years ago added the provision thinking it would tank the bill. Nope.
You know that law that says a misdemeanor for domestic violence = no gun for you? It was also a poison pill by that idiot Republican-turned-pseudo-Libertarian Bob Barr. Good going Bob. Now men (and I assume some women) who could’ve beaten a felony conviction but pled guilty to a misdemeanor w/o jail time to take the simpler path have to turn in their guns. Yay. not.
Thank you, Kevin for providing this resource. I’ll share it at that page I run on facebook and send it out to my techie friends.
Anyone, regardless of party, who supports an internet kill switch (I know Joe Leiberman & some idjits in both parties do) needs to be removed via primary before their next chance for re-election. Betraying Americans needs to have consequences.
Lieberman has already announced he won’t be running for re-election. Good riddance
Ditto that. And Conrad of NoDak, same thing. Good riddance.
Inspired by HillBuzz, I’ve used my own blog to help get the message out, and, of course, I quoted from and linked back to HillBuzz:

Nice stuff on that link. I’d go with FIDO NET (which I’m familiar with from way back when) and HAM radio. Neanderthal era to most of the young’uns, but they still work.
It seems to be that a kill switch is a good way to guarantee that Dems stay permanently out of power.
What was that internet censorship bill they introduced a number of years back? Not McCain/Feingold, before that.
The open-mesh networking ideas in that article would work well in a high density area. I’m thinking that some brainy kids are working on a package to make it easy for the average user to install at home.
Great in a city or other dense population area. Rural folks will continue to go the ham radio route to talk to each other. Or, perhaps they have a packet radio system in operation already?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packet_radio
Perhaps what is needed is mesh networks + packet radio in combination? No way to shut that down, it would be nearly organic in nature. Those systems can be set up in vehicles too. Getting a ham license is much easier now that in the past as the requirement for Morse code was dropped.
You aren’t the first to posit that an alternate communications network in private hands would be beneficial. Digital packet radio has been around since the 90′s. It would not surprise me if something quite robust is already in place.
