Obama gets no cheer in latest Boystown theater production
We really liked a theater company here in Chicago, called GayCo, until 2008 when they converted themselves into an Obama propaganda machine.
We’ve tried to go back to their productions, including a show they did last year which rebuked Obama to some degree, but frankly, our love for GayCo is gone. Their schtick just leaves a bad taste in our mouth, considering how much cheerleading they did for the administration that’s responsible for everything we’re facing today.
Some of GayCo’s former performers started a new company, called Quixotic, that doesn’t have a theater for a home and instead stages its shows inside the late-night bar Hydrate, before Hydrate gets rocking. It’s a great setup, actually, with Quixotic performing on a makeshift stage on Hydrate’s dance floor from 9-10pm, getting more people into the bar than usual, since most people avoid Hydrate until places like Sidetracks, Roscoes, Cocktail, and MiniBar (aka, douchebag central) close at 2am.
We know some of the guys behind Quixotic, and they are big Obama Zombies. Knowing absolutely nothing about what’s actually being done to the country, or the unconstitutionality of the Obamacare bill rammed through Congress in March, these are the kinds of guys who just think it’s cool to have a black president and first lady. They don’t see the ramification of new taxes coming down the pipe, and they don’t care all that much about Obama throwing only the teensiest of bones and tiniest scraps to gays. They have the “We hate Republicans!” blinders firmly in place, and do whatever Anderson Cooper tells them to do on TV.
That said, we caught Quixotic’s latest show at Hydrate because we like seeing shows about life in Boystown, and hearing another take on the things we also observe and write about. The new show, Hate Crimes: A Love Story, is about 90% funny, with only two bits that miss the mark.
One is a slam against Christians that we find needlessly out of place. The show’s rolling along very well, snarking on the antics of people in Boystown, and all the ridiculous things, guys especially, do here when out of the blue there’s a musical number about “Travis Christ”, supposedly the 13th apostle, and Jesus’ husband.
It’s not as disrespectful as you’d think, and the main vocals on the song are provided by an adorable Neil Patrick Harris impersonator, who plays ‘Travis”. It’s really just a setup for them to argue for spousal rights, trying awkwardly to eliminate the religious objection between same-sex partnerships. But, when we see Comedy Central censor itself because it’s so afraid of insulting Muslims, for disrespecting the Religion of Peace that is Islam, we find it glaring that Quixotic, like the rest of the Left, sees no harm at all in degrading Christianity.
Even if it is with an NPH clone.
It’s interesting the audience didn’t laugh or really seem to enjoy the “Travis Christ” song. Knowing some of the people behind Quixotic, we can peg who forced this number into the show, just because he wanted to stick it to the religious types we know him to hate. It’s a shame someone didn’t take a step back and 86 this needless dig. The show would have been better for it.
The same is true for another line in the show that got absolutely no cheer from the audience — a line that praises the current president.
We don’t remember the context, exactly, but there’s a bit where the Quixotic cast is talking about how great it is to have a “big dog in the White House”, protecting them. And it’s just stone cold silent in the audience at that. The line falls completely flat.
Obama gets no cheer.
Whatsoever.
Which is interesting, because in 2008 when GayCo staged the show that sang Obama’s praises and fawned all over him, the audience did in fact cheer. Loudly. They just ate that stuff up.
But, in 2010, those cheers are long gone.
The writers at Quixotic don’t seem to realize it, but it’s true.
We are glad, however, that Quixotic didn’t feel the need to take a jab at Sarah Palin in this show, like they did in their last production. That was a smart move on their part, because it’s become the lazy fallback of the LGBTQ-set, to rag on Sarah Palin in some way, as the straw man villain of lazy minds. Someone at Quixotic has a defective fabulous gene, because we as a community are supposed to be sharp, cutting-edge, forever fabulous, and critically-acclaimed-sitcom-witty just walking down the street (let alone starring in gay theater productions). Stale, recycled, mean-spirited, unfunny jokes about Republicans just don’t cut it.
If you are in Chicago on a Friday or Saturday through mid-May, “Hate Crimes: A Love Story” is worth checking out. We really liked it, as we said, save for the Travis Christ number and the weird Obama shoutout (that no one else seemed to want either). If you really like Neil Patrick Harris, in particular, you should definitely see it…because if you squint your eyes, or just forget your glasses entirely, you’d really think it was actually him. And in super tight black jeans too.

Hmmm…a sign of a teensy bit of ‘progress’???
Is the purple Kool-aid in the punch bowl starting to taste a bit smatchy?
Maybe the Brendans(sp?) are starting to feel the ‘pinch’.
Interesting critique, Boyz.
As obama said over the weekend “all you blacks, hispanic, young and women” we democrats need your help to win congress back this year.
His unspoken words? All you whites, gays, jews, asians, conservatives go screw yourself for not backing me up.”
As for women? shame on them if they still vote for this socialist pig. Since I’m a woman I CAN say that
I have seen it for myself when I was in USA last year – middle aged women who have stars in their eyes and believe that it was all Bush’s fault…. no matter what…. it was “he will fix it you will see” – that inexperienced git? Ha ha
O/T but a time sensitive action:
Pam Geller has an incredible piece up that includes an action we all should follow through on (IMHO).
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2010/04/sioa-campaign-offensive-fight-for-removal-of-un-indicted-co-conspirator-hamas-linked-cair-counselpresident-and-911-terror.html#comments
She provides all the contact info you need and makes it easy. Ms. Geller does more than her part every day, just like the guys at Hillbuzz. When political action is all set up by those we know and trust and all one needs to do is send a couple of e-mails, there’s little reason not to follow through (MHO).
(Thanks, guys, for letting me interupt. I just know that this is one of those places where readers don’t just post comments, but also take political action.)
And now, back to your regularly scheduled program…
Thanks for sharing this. Hillbuzz loves getting tips and stories from readers so much that they have a special daily thread for them every day — the Open Thread. That way we all get to read an interesting hodgepodge, and you don’t have to feel bad about threadjacking.
I’m glad they got no applause. Every bit of progress counts. They can’t brainwash people forever.
Similarly encouraging: I recently created a facebook account.
One of the newsfeed things from a lifelong extremely liberal friend of mine had a blurb concerning “opposition to facebook group praying for President Obama’s death”. (actually, it was really that internet joke about, “my favorite actress was Farran Fawcett, etc., just want you to know my favorite leader is President Obama”)
I clicked through to her page and saw the comments. Expecting a bunch of vile, leftist hatemongering, I was quite surprised to see the responses were along the lines of “you should never pray for someone’s death, but rather pray for him to gain wisdom”, and “regardless of my opinion about him, I’d never pray for his death”.
Considering how liberal she is, and always has been, it appears quite a few people have been opened. I’ll state at the outset though that she is a very intelligent and well-educated person, so it is likely that her FB friends aren’t your typical kool-aid guzzlers. Still, encouraging to see that even some left-leaning libs are realizing what a screw up teh won is.
I was at the DC Improv in March 09, and the comedian who asked, everybody here likes Obama, right?….got few cheers. And this was in EARLY 2009 in the heart of statism.
He may be getting tipid cheers in some quarters, but he’s still getting away with advancing his agenda.
Well, could it be sinking in? Sinking bone-deep in a survival instinct way? That the sort of people who will most likely be in charge of death panels, rationing, and granting medical care access really are hatefilled anti-joy/anti-life control freaks that look down and despise anyone not ‘them’?
All it takes is one shady guidline, one poorly written treatment recomendation, one stretching of the requirements and wham! you are a gonner.
How long will it be before self-inflicted diseases as described and defined by the elite receive minimal or no treatment due to budget considerations and outcome predictions?
HIV/Aids? Lung cancer? Liver diseases? Health issues to diet and wieght? Age of patient?
This is scary stuff. It was one thing for me to know that if I needed a transplant of any kind that I was most likely walking dead since I could not afford it, it is another to not meet arbitrary criteria set up by a panel of academics and pro-dogoooders.
I bet they are feeling it.
I forgot to add that I would be in that category of self inflicted issues, since I was a smoker for 30 years (now quit for a halfyear yay me)and my weight is up and have had unprotected sex earlier in my life. So if I presented with diabetes, or lung cancer, or or hypertension related issues or STD, in theory if the sorts of people are in charge of these panels as I think will eventually be, then I will most likely be triaged and given an aspirin and an appt with a hospice rather than treatment. scary.
I also promise to proof harder and not hit the button so quick from now on, cross my fingers pinky promise
I was at a restaurant in NYC Saturday night, in the heart of Manhattan. Went to the city with hubby to see the Magna Carta at the Morgan Library. Anyway, at the steakhouse, the seating was very close, everyone was right next to each other. Actually made some new friends that night.
The 2 young guys next to us were from Montreal, down in NY for business. Both only 29, my daughter’s age. They asked us what wwe thought of Obama, and I thought to myself, “Oh, OH! I’m in the heart of liberaltown, USA, do I dare?” Well, I did, I said “A lot of us here wish we had a ‘do over’!” (Hubby was glad I remained good humored and polite, and he agreed with me also.) A couple at the next table nodded in agreement. I did not see ONE scowling hateful face.
What a difference a year and a half makes. If he is not totally loved in NYC, he’s toast.
Thank the Lord!

Dr. Manning: We have proof of Obama’s ineligibility
JURY TRIAL MAY 14-19 TO BE “AN INTERNATIONAL EVENT”

Wow! Very interesting read…thanks for sharing.
Dictators and people who vote for them are no fun. They are hard to remove and it is a lot of wasted energy doing so. Hopefully corporate America including Goldman Sacks and their friends realize the headache of fucking the federal government is not worth the bitching that goes on the other 23 and a half hours a day. If not then let’s have a revolution and get some payback.
The elastic definition of “hate” is being used (in Canada, Britain and other European countries) as an excuse for someone to be arrested for making controversial remarks. Just try to say anything negative about Islaam in Britain and see what happens.speaker’s heart? Should murder, for example, be more severly punished because the murdered one was a member of a certain group?
Now, we must be concerned with “lawful” speech. Whatever happened to “I disagree with what you say but I defend to the death your right to say it”?? Such a philosophy was widely accepted at the time of the American Revolution. How far we have fallen.
Hate, let us remember, is a sin. Should someone be arrested and more severly punished because the hearer has judged what is in the
I’m happy to hear that it’s possible/probable that the gay community might be having a change of mind/heart on this president…I know it’s a small “sign” but it’s a sign nonetheless.
How uncomfortable it must feel to know that as much as he promised to ABSOLUTELY overturn DADT in his first year, but also address gay marriage…that health care “reform”, cap and trade, amnesty for illegal immigrants, come first. Especially as it applies to DADT where all he has to do is issue an executive order.
So one could feel that energy issues and illegal aliens, and trial lawyers, and so much more must be more important to the president they embraced than they are.
Betrayal is a vicious sin.
The BIG sign was the march on Washington last year.
Obama is not getting any cheer in Texas either. Check out this billboard.
http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/04/anti-obama-billboard-campaign-continues-embarrassed-yet/
Excellent! Except I don’t know if most Liberals are capable of embarrassment.
I read the comments and some of them are unbelievable. There’s a poster, Rose, who is so dumb she’s hilarious.
I should be used to it by now, but it always takes me aback when confronted with such jaw-dropping ignorance.
I leave in California, everywere i go everyone i talk to they say they are very disapointed and they are not going to vote for him.
You know California is full of libs and maybe some idiot Republicans who voted for him, they are so sorry, then again if Republicans don’t have a candidate like McCane.
hillbuzz look at this-CCX Chicago, Al Gore and Climagate Obama and other criminality. This doesn’t look too good.
http://investigatingobama.blogspot.com/2010/04/greatest-scandal-in-modern-history.html
This is all true. When Dr. U was still in Chicago he was involved in setting up the CCX. He and Fat Al go a long way back.
The whole global warming thing is a huge scam to pass Cap-n-Tax creating an exchange to trade yet more derivatives.
Interesting that Al’s daddy, Big Bore, was a friend of Armand Hammer, commie and president of Occidental Petroleum. Much of his family fortune comes from deals that Big Bore did with OXY.
As much as Fat Al screams about saving the earth the foundation of his riches come from big oil – and a shady crowd at that.
I often wonder if Dems never wonder about their idols.
Time to wake up folks.
Bottom line with the global warming farce is that Gore, GS, Dr. U and many others expected to make billions with this scam off our backs. Whenever they raise the alarm and tell you that it’s for “the children” or for “your own good” or to “save the earth”, they lie. You lose. They win.
They are socialists who love capitalism. They live large, and you foot the bill.
And they told you all those stories about ‘big, bad capitalists!’ You’ve all been played for suckers. Pelosi and all the Dems are laughing their asses off.
” But, when we see Comedy Central censor itself because it’s so afraid of insulting Muslims, for disrespecting the Religion of Peace that is Islam, we find it glaring that Quixotic, like the rest of the Left, sees no harm at all in degrading Christianity’
Thank you boyz for pointing this out. THe liberal left will ALWAYS point out the one fanatic who claims to be Christian who perverts the message of JEsus- BUT they NEVER point out the fact that NEARLY all the terrorist attacks are committed by Muslims..
Jesus preached love, compassion and forgiveness, allah aka mohammed nothing but hate, greed and killing. Read the Koran and/or “Son of Hamas” by Mosab Yousef.
Sorry for the hijack.
As an Asian, I am offended he didn’t peddle his BS towards the Asian community!
Wasnt he supposed to peddle his BS to all minority communities??
what a hypocrite!
ssmith, you SHOULD be offended.
Asians get short shrift when it comes to this government bending over backwards for ‘visible minorities’.
Maybe you could start a class action suit.
