Mystery of the Day: Who was Dodd's accomplice with the AIG business?

Posted on March 19, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Here’s a great catch over at Redstate.

Chris Dodd did not work alone in protecting AIG’s bonuses.  He had an accomplice.

(1) Dodd’s amendment was added in the conference that took place between members of the House and the Senate, as the two versions of Obama’s Trillion Dollar Spending Bill were merged and reconciled into one.

(2) Dodd was not a member of that conference.

(3) Dodd was not able to slip an amendment into the bill on his own.

(4) Harry Reid, Max Baucus, and Daniel Inouye were the three Senators in the conference who could have slipped Dodd’s amendment protecting AIG into Obama’s Trillion Dollar Spending Bill.

Which one of them did it?

Which one of them helped Dodd and the White House protect AIG’s bonuses?

Today, as many people as possible should call their Senators and Representatives until we get an answer as to which man, Reid, Inouye, or Baucus is complicit with Dodd in this.

and Dodd ran for President and supported Obama. the Democrats deserve a huge slap on the wrist for this, and huge punishment in 2010.

but the media will not call them out on this.

Interesting chart depicting the top 20 recipients of AIG contributions. Maybe the accomplice is on this list…

Keep up the great work guys!!

Within the space of 5 minutes last night, I heard Chris Dodd, in one interview, emphatically state that when the bill left his hands, there was nothing added at the bottom. I flipped to another channel and heard him say that he had put the statement at the bottom at the request of (I believe he said) Treasury. The point is, he contradicted himself about the existence of the added words.
This self-serving weasel needs to resign or be recalled by my fellow Connecticans.

Well, it sure could have been Max (Baucus). He’s dumb enough that he wouldn’t have a clue about what he was doing and you’ll note he raked in a healthy amount of campaign contributions from AIG. The only thing that I question is who told Max what to do – he sure couldn’t think it up on his own!

But the real issue remains – no matter who put the amendment in or who changed it or whatever – the whole friggin’ lot of them who VOTED FOR it without reading or understanding what they were voting for are responsible. Period. Exclamation point.

    Baucus could have…

Baucus was asked to give his full support behind Geithner by Mr. Obama’s problem fixer in the WH, who was Max’s former chief of state…

      Interesting article about this http://www.prospect.org/csnc/blogs/ezraklein_archive?month=02&year=2009&base_name=rahm_and_minirahm
The Washington Post, meanwhile, is selling deputy chief of staff Jim Messina as Rahm Emanuel’s Rahm Emanuel. Messina, says The Post, has become the administration’s “Fixer.” The guy who solves your political problems. He may end up solving a lot of them.

Messina came to the Obama campaign from Max Baucus’s office, where he served as chief of staff. Baucus, as chairman of the Finance Committee, has jurisdiction over health care, taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, and potentially even carbon pricing. Aside from Harry Reid and arguably Susan Collins, he’s probably the most important senator to Obama’s agenda. An easy relationship between the two men will prove crucial. Just ask Bill Clinton, whose enmity with finance chairman Daniel Patrick Moynihan was the stuff of legend. Operatives from that time have argued to me that Clinton’s greatest mistake in the 1994 health care reform came in 1993, when he took then-Finance Chair Lloyd Bentsen as Treasury Secretary and let Moynihan ascend to the post.

Profiled in The Post, Messina goes out of his way to praise Baucus. “Max is like my father. I’m closer to Max than I am almost anyone,” he says. Elsewhere, he describes their “father-son” relationship. Every two weeks, The Post reports, Baucus and Messina meet at Bistro Bis for wine and dinner. And it’s already had impact: When Geithner’s nomination began to founder, Messina was dispatched to explain the situation to Baucus. Geithner quickly received Baucus’s full support.

Indeed, either by accident or by design, the White House now employs the chiefs of staff for the two most jurisdictionally powerful congressmen. Deputy chief of staff Messina, of course, from Baucus’s office. And director of legislative affairs Phil Schiliro, from Henry Waxman’s office. The White House will not find itself scrambling some night to find either chairman’s cell phone number.

I just called Max’s office, and the person on the phone quickly told me that Dodd took responsibility for the amendment. I questioned how this could be when Dodd was not a member of that conference and would not have been able to slip in the amendment on his own. This statement was quickly followed with the fact that Dodd is Chairman of the Banking Committee and ‘he’ felt obligated to yield to the pressure. I should have asked for clarification of who ‘he’ was. Links from CNN were offered, but I declined as I told them I didn’t trust CNN to write an unbiased article.

Hopefully (I dread that word) I will receive the articles or links I was promised…what a change.

While everyone is screeching about the AIG bonuses, Fannie Mae is quietly giving $1 million retention bonuses to their executives and no one is screaming about it. At the same time, Pelosi is planning to bring legislation to tax the AIG bonuses 90%.

This is such a comedy of errors, I fear we are never going to recover from this. FUBAR seems to cover it.

My money’s on Harry Reid. He & Nazi Piglosi practically wrote the Porkulus package.

So we’re going to pass a quick law that says AIG employees will be taxed on 90% of the bonuses.

Gee, Barney Frank . . are Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae employees gonna be taxed 90% on THEIR bonuses???

For that matter, let’s tax members of Congress 90% on raises that they voted for themselves!

I’m with you, NeeNee! 100% They don’t get to tax AIG employees then NOT tax Freddie/Fannie bonuses, too.

As to our own “representatives” (I use that term very, very loosely) salaries …. if they have voted themselves a raise in the last 2 years, they should lose their entire salary. Frankly, they should also have to find and pay for their own health insurance and 401Ks like the rest of us poor slobs. They make the rules, then give themselves bonuses and perks no one else gets ….. it’s obscene and should be illegal. NO raise or benefit should be given to our “representatives” without a majority vote of WE THE PEOPLE.

Grrrrrrrr … so angry about all of this.

Reid, Dodd, and Frank should be impeached. And where ever foul play is, there you’ll find, “immigration enforcement is un-American”, Pelosi. The whole lot of em’ should be gone, no health care, no pension.

Rob Simmons is running against Dodd. One down, 100′s to go.

Oh geez, it just keeps getting better. 13 of the companies that took bailout money owe back taxes to the tune of $220 million. They must have been taking lessens from Chuckie Rangel?

Honestly Obama was trying to be popular by saying no bonuses, however Obama was the one who signed the bill into law, without reading it!!!

So Obama is the one to blame,

URGENT: While we were being distracted with AIG, they just passed Obama’s civil army and and white slavery act…that’s what I call it. Seniors will be required to work for free too..

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-1388

It’s disguised as usual. That’s what they do. They make a bad bill sound like a positive thing.
    This one is called:
H.R. 1388:2009-2010 Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act

111th CongressThis is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of Representatives (“H.R.”). A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate and then be signed by the President before it becomes law.

Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a session of Congress. This bill was created in the 111th Congress, in 2009-2010.

The titles of bills are written by the bill’s sponsor and are a part of the legislation itself.

    The 13th amendment specifically states:

    Amendment XIII

Section 1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Section 2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Let the American people take a lesson from other countries…go to Washington and demand that they all leave. I can’t imagine it would be so bad while we put people in that actually loved America.
