Mutt Romney Issue: People Get Pulled Over By Cops For Doing What Mitt Romney Did With Impunity Back in 1980-something

Posted on February 8, 2012 by Kevin DuJan // 2012 GOP Candidates, Mittens Romney

[Click above to embarken:  The Seamus Express — “Mutt Romney” issue that could derail general election campaign}

The Facebook group Dogs Against Romney was abuzz yesterday with the revelation that people in the year 2012 get pulled over by the police for driving with dogs strapped to the roofs of their cars — for those unaware, this is the “Mutt Romney” issue that will dog his candidacy in the general election if Romney indeed becomes the Republican nominee for president.

The photo above was posted on Dogs Against Romney and is purported to be a shot of a police cruiser after it pulled over the driver for suspected animal abuse. In reality, it was a Dogs Against Romney member who strapped that carrier to the roof in a protest against Romney.

Before I post the comments left by the Tolerant Left eviscerating Romney on the “Mutt Romney” issue, I implore Romney supporters out there to aggressively encourage any contacts you have on the Romney campaign to get out in front of this issue before Barack Obama has a chance to use this against him in the general election.

I suspect the reason the White House has so prominently flown Bo the Dog around in special planes and drives him all sorts of places in limos is so that at some point during the campaign Obama will start making jokes about how his dog rides inside while Romney strapped his dog Seamus to the roof.

This is going to happen. If Romney’s your guy, disarm this attack NOW while you still can.

I'm with the Dogs Against Romney folks. When I first heard about this poor dog in 2008, it just creeped me out about Romney's lack of common sense. It was a 12 HOUR drive ! Not only is there the potential of the carrier flying off the roof, it could have caused a serious, maybe fatal accident for other drivers on the road. Just too stupid for words.

As a kid, my large family always traveled with pets prone to car sickness, but they still rode in the back of the station wagon….with lots of towels. The luggage went on the roof in the carrier.

I've thought about this for awhile, being that I have a dog and all. Now, I adore my dog, pamper him a bit, but still understand that he is a DOG. Nevertheless, on trying to imagine myself actually putting my doberman into a dog crate, then securing that crate to the roof of a car……….I am sorry, I can't think of any way to spin that into anything acceptable or find a way to excuse or explain such a thing.

MAYBE if there was an emergency, like a flood for example, and we had to pack the car to the ceiling without time to do so in an organized fashion, were only driving 5 miles an hour, and only driving a few miles away, AND had to do it in a red hot hurry, AND the only alternative was to leave the dog behind to perhaps die. Otherwise I cannot, cannot believe a person could do a thing like that to a family pet.

I still don’t know why the dog couldn’t be inside the car. Why bring the kennel?

When I was a kid, our dog rode inside and we didn’t let her stick her head out the window either. She just sat on either the floor or she sat on the back seat.

I just don’t understand why the dog couldn’t ride inside Romney’s car.

That's the big problem for Romney, there is no reasonable explanation for doing such a thing.

And remember, Kevin, Mittens eventually gave Seamus away to his sister. Who gives the family dog away? When I was a little girl my mother gave me a great piece of advice: "Want to find a good man? Find one who is kind to animals. It's the best indicator of his soul and character."

I’m glad you brought up the fact he gave the dog to the sister.

That’s so strange a concept to me.

If I had a dog, the ONLY reasons I’d give the dog up — to ANYONE — would be:
          1. If I had a health problem and I could no longer be around the dog (or if that happened to Justin)
          2. If I lived alone and was too sick to be able to take care of the dog
          3. If I couldn’t afford to buy the dog food or whatever else it needed
          4. If I had to move somewhere that wouldn’t allow animals
          5. If I had to work outside the home so much that the dog was neglected or harmed because of that

I can’t think of any other reason I would evict a pet from my home.

None of the reasons above applied to Romney. He had a whole brood of boys to help take care of the dog. You can debate on how helpful they would be, but the oldest, Taggart, was almost a teenager if not already a teen when this happened and he sure could have taken care of the dog with Ann’s supervision. That’s how a lot of boys learn responsibility.

Giving the dog away is weird. And cold.

How awful would it be if your dad suddenly gave away the family pet for no real reason? I would have my heart broken.
