MUST READ: Personal account of why nationwide support needs to pour in for Carl Paladino in New York

Posted on September 26, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Below, we’ve posted a letter we just received from a reader in New York state, talking about what she calls “The Paladino Phenomenon”.  It’s really a must read, so we hope you take the time to not only invest in what’s below, but also to take a look at Paladino for yourself and think about what you can do to help make him the next Governor of New York:

Dear HillBuzz,

This turned out way different from what I started out to write, or probably what you expected. There are numerous issues and facts I wanted to address, but the more I addressed them, the more I saw it would take a New Yorker type article, which would take a week to do, and I do not have a week to do it (as much as I wish I did). So, this is more of a polemic. Writing this made me appreciate all the more the effort and work you do. I feel so strongly about this election. I cannot imagine how you could use this on your site, and hope you understand the sincerity and appreciation for you I felt in sending it.  – MM

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

There are several facts folks need to know about the Paladino phenomenon, and they are all very personal.

First, folks in New York State are sickened because our children move out of state to find jobs and careers. They are refugees. People’s families are torn apart because of the legalized corruption in New York. The insanely high taxes, the insanely intrusive regulatory atmosphere, the stranglehold of the government unions on our government and, more importantly, on our shoddy schools, drive young folks to places where human beings can live their lives in freedom and prosperity, and simply learn.

Second, politics in New York has been refined to a not so sophisticated insider’s game. There is one party in New York, the Parasite Party, feeding off the ever-dwindling folks who work hard, obey the rules, and want only to raise a family knowing their children can get a good education and have prospects of a better life.

What makes this aspect of the Paladino phenomenon personal is the way the Parasite Party insults and disparages the very folks who pay the bills. The GZ mosque is the perfect example of this fact of New York life. We are talked down to by the Parasites, who call us bigots and intolerant.

Third, New York is colloquially divided into an Upstate v. Downstate perspective. This is off kilter. The real division is between Manhatten, Brooklyn, the Bronx and the rest of the state. Manhattan is the capitol of the world, a treasure chest of immense wealth and immense influence (not to mention, a beautiful, astonishing place, full of wonderful people). The wealth and the influence naturally lead to the domination of all New York State. There is no Columbus balancing Cleveland balancing Cincinnati, no Los Angeles in balance with San Francisco, or Houston with Dallas.

The interests of NYC are not the interests of the rest of the state. Outside NYC, the chief business is agriculture. Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Schenectady, Rome, Utica, are not the centers of manufacturing or technology they once were. They are now struggling populations, asphyxiated with mandates imposed – - but not adequately funded – - by the state. New Yorkers are nickled and dimed to feed the Parasite Party. We are bizarrely divided between those who resent the nickel and diming, and those who are not affected. High taxes and oppressive regulations are irrelevant to a powerful elite who transcend New York State, and to those who contribute little or nothing. The elite dominates, and is indifferent to, the rest of the state, and the rest of the state knows it.

Carl Paladino understands: this is personal, it is not business. The Parasite Party is not good for most New Yorkers. They are the Soviet, and he is Lech Walesa.

For folks in Buffalo, Paladino is primarily familiar because of a series of radio ads he ran over time, at his own expense, addressing the shoddiness of the government schools locally. Paladino took the shocking position that children were being inhumanely deprived of the education they needed to live their lives successfully. His commercials began with the signature word, “HELLO!” He then would state the obvious: failure rates and drop-out rates meant actual human beings were the victims of forces for whom the well-being of the students were a peripheral concern. The implicit premise of his advertisements was this: it is within the power of our community to prepare these human beings for success, but politics is getting in the way.

Hello! Charles Dickens!

I do not know Paladino personally, although I once got a thank you note from him for something I did, something I do not remember. It was a little thing. I remember because the note was nice and thoughtful and unnecessary. I am not, nor have ever been, in a position to affect his life in any manner (nor the opposite).

I do know folks who know Carl Paladino personally. For what it is worth, I trust these folks, trust their judgment, and have no doubt they are accurate. What they say is: Carl is genuine. He is a normal human, and he cares.

He is shrewd, a great organizer, compassionate and a force of nature. He loves liberty. Paladino resonates because he is himself, understands what is going on in New York, and is fearless in saying what others do not have the nerve to say.

Paladino made something of himself. No person fed him with a silver spoon and cleared the path.

This election for governor in New York represents the essence of the Tea Party. As much as it is about taxes and education policy and legal corruption, it is above all about our culture, here in New York and throughout America. Do we have the courage to shatter the mind-control “shut up!” politics of the Left?

Carl Paladino is unlike any other person running for office today. He is totally himself.

What makes him so fascinating, is the question he implicitly throws in the face of the Parasite Party. Is it possible to be yourself, to speak your mind, and run for office with any prospect to win?

Leftists rely upon intimidation and manipulation designed to have folks not be themselves. They rely on Shut Up.

It takes bravery and courage to confront Pravda and Patrice Lumumba University, the powerful would-be arbiters of our consciousness.

Sarah Palin is the only other person so ably demonstrating exactly what Paladino is doing (well, ok, Christie). The other Tea Party folks are wonderful, they are great, but they do not have the exact personality (like Sarah) – - a personality which is a gift of life – - the blunt ability to confront the Shut Up culture.

Here is the secret of Sarah and Paladino. They are William Buckley, folks who see things as they are, who are willing to sacrifice themselves, and who love their fellow human beings so much, they dare to be themselves.

This year, Paladino is the only one up for election who is absolutely Lech Walesa. His election is the symbol of whether we keep our republic.

From what I’ve seen and read, the GOP in New York is wide open for true conservatives to TAKE OVER. Yes, the state is a mess. But we have one BIG advantage in that there appears to be little or no cuke and mayo RINO establishment here.

I don’t care if the very thought of affiliating yourself with the word Republican makes you break out in hives. Third parties are for fools and the Democrats here are a lost cause.

So if you live in New York State and have ANYTHING to offer … even small jobs like delivering lawn signs … find your local GOP and volunteer. Hubby Dearest did it here a few years back and found the committee nearly DEAD. His enthusiasm helped revitalize the committee, then this year, he was elected to the county committee that helped vet and endorse actual candidates.

THAT’s where we want real conservatives to be. Not on the outside griping about how the party doesn’t give us good candidates whine whine. INSIDE making it happen.

Wow. As you know, I do lots of work in New York, and this mirrors exactly what people are telling me up there. I traveled to Syracuse weekly for three years and heard all of this. Half of Upstate is in the DC area, I swear, because the jobs have gone.

The Parasite Party. That is an absolute gift of phrasing that should be used everywhere.

What are parasites in nature? Leeches. Tapeworms. Ticks.

well, you can’t get away with calling a leftist a tapeworm, but The Parasite Party sort of embodies this. Plus, it also works for those GOP officials who will not stand up for citizens and use their positions to enrich themselves and their cronies (Lisa Mudcowski, I am pointing at YOU!)

I am going to start using this phrase everywhere. And I am going to suggest that we all do what we can to help Paladino, with money or time.

    The Parasite Party. Just super!

I’ve lived in Upstate NY for about fifteen years now. We would run away tomorrow if my husband did not enjoy his work. Last week I returned a rental car because mine was in a crash. The price was $199 per week, after taxes it cost $333. If you order a bagel and have the server cut it, it costs 8 cents more. I could go on and on, trust me they must stay up nights thinking of this stuff.
Not one person in my social circle has had a child return from college and stay here, no jobs no future. We are drowning. There is no way we will stay here when my husband retires, the Parasites sealed that deal. Thanks for this wonderful article, and can I share it?

I’m in the Capital District, Moe and I agree with so many of your posts. I listen to talk radi and follow politics locally, statewide and antionally. NY is simply a mess. We are broke and now with the collpse of many big wall streeters, the state’s coffers are even worse off.

I think that it’s quite ironic that when Eliot “Client #9″ Spitzer rode into town saying he was going to be a “steamroller” no one in the media thought he was literally going to flatten anyone into the tar. Now Paladino uses a baseball bat analogy and the media is up in arms about his being proof that tea partiers are violent!

      From the article:
“’We have an electorate that doesn’t always pay that much attention to what’s going on so people are influenced by a simple slogan rather than the facts or the truth or what’s happening,’ Kerry told reporters after touring the Boston Medical Center yesterday.”

Isn’t that exactly the way they like their electorate? The difference, and what is irritating Kerry now is that the REST of the electorate is awake and is NOT influenced by a simple slogan.

I visited NYC a year ago, and I was stunned that they charge for everything!!!
    and I mean everything.

My friend and I were curious about apts, and a little studio in manhattan costs about $2000 a month…. a little bitty studio apt, I remember going to a “Duane Reade” (sp?), and a small bottle of water was $1.50!!!

here in VA, I can go to a 7-11, and get a 1.5 liter huge bottle of water for $1.25.

I guess it depends on the person. Husband and I spent 20 years in Manhattan and loved every minute. Unfortunately, we got priced out – artists are not big enough money makers.

The influence the Parasites of NYC have on the surrounding area would surprise you.

For one thing, they have stonewalled the development of the new natural gas industry because they insist, erroneously, that it will impact “their” water supply.

Not the water of DE, NJ, PA – THEIR water. As a result an important addition to this country’s energy supply, and an economic boon for the immediate area, is stuck in the mud.

This line made me notice a lot of parallels between New York and the corruption in Chicago (the “only city” in the state). Maybe that’s why these things are able to happen in state politics.

Brilliant synopsis. Thanks, MM. And thanks, Boyz, for posting it!
It’s good to know there are people who remember Lech Walesa (Solidarity/Perestroika) and the incredible challenges and tension of that era. Excellent reference, among many.

Where I live, we get the Buffalo TV stations and are familiar with many of the NY state political players.
Carl Paladino is offering himself up as a true gift to the state of New York. The voters would be crazy to let this opportunity slip by and doom themselves to ‘more of the same’ under the ruling class.

Paladino is the real deal…smart, knowledgeable and fearless. (He reminds me a bit of Giuliani without the ego.)
There are many videos available on YouTube, but this is an interview he did in a local TV studio. He speaks ‘off the cuff’ for twelve minutes, and it tells all you need to know about Paladino, the man.

I think you will really like his thoughts on the Ground Zero site (starting around 4:00). He’s also very funny in a ‘dry’ way.

He’s a real person. They haven’t got anyone “polishing” him up for the marketing. Maybe they will, but I doubt it. The last question, which was “what question would you ask Rick Lazio if you could get him to debate” generated an interesting answer: “Where is he going to get the fortitude to do battle with the demons” which he explained is the “ruling class” that is at the public trough. He said “they’re not going to leave just because we ask them to – we’re going to have to take them down.” And that’s where he reminds me a bit of Sarah Palin. Just a lawyer who says he’s been studying government all of his life and he’s just tired of the corruption. We’ll see if the people from upstate agree with him enough to come out and overwhelm the 5 boroughs with enough votes to win this and make a statement – and some history.

On my recent drive through upstate NY on the way to YYZ, I saw lots of Paladino signs, including several hand-lettered ones with “Paladino save us from Albany” being the predominant theme.

Also saw several teapots cut out of plywood with a jigsaw, painted and labeled “Proud Tea Party Patriot”. These were displayed in the front windows of many small businesses.

I think there are winds of change coming. The Studmuffin is a NYorker, but we fled and would never move back. We both have family that still lives in NY (Upstate) and NYC, but how you feel about it is definitely income-dependent.

And it is a shame to see the hollowing out of upstate NY due to predatory government and corruption. We’ve called the NY and DC (District of Criminals) machines the “Permanent Parasite Class” for years.

Great letter that hits the nail on the head. All that’s needed is for regular men and women to start speaking up for themselves. The special interest groups within the Democratic party are masters of this. Speak and they shall receive must be their motto. Well, it’s now time for those who are just regular Joe’s and Janes to do the same, and to keep at it. There is no reason why sanity cannot be part of the political equation. The nuts in politics need to be shucked, and chucked. They get away with things because people are letting them get away with things. Power back to the people.

Also, it’s not just New York that has the same problem. New Jersey is in a similar situation. The haves think nothing about this because they are not as affected by government mandates. It’s a blip on their bottom line. On the other end of the spectrum, the many poor people are not as affected, either. They are not paying taxes, they are using the government services that the regular, taxpaying folks provide through their taxes. So, they don’t really care either. The problem is that both socioeconomic groups, the lower end, and the upper end seem to have an inordinate amount of say over the middle group that actually knows what its like to live under a stifling, uncaring, unresponsive government. It’s time for the middle group to start showing its mettle.

The same scenario could be said for NY’s neighbor – CT. The cities, (Bridgeport, Hartford, New Haven) who have large populations of non-tax paying people reap the benefits from the legislation inflicted upon all of us by the “limousine liberals” ie, Stamford and the Gold Coast. Our children cannot afford housing, there are no jobs and the unions run the place. In fact our children fled to upstate NY which is easier than here to make a living, believe it or not. Families are torn apart because parents can’t sell their houses and children can’t afford to live here. OR, kids live with their parents and the family becomes like a migrant family all holed up together and trying to keep the ship afloat.

Probably closer to 85%. Long Island is pretty big.

Actually it’s not as “big” per say, Paul, but it is as populous. But they pay VERY high property taxes and are hit with the same type of taxes as the city – on everything they eat, wear, drive, or play with.

If I was voting, not in my book. They have stuck together, the baby was allowed to live, sounds like he manned up to his transgressions, she forgave him…what did I miss? Only thing, sounds like she isn’t really interested in political life. Not the first time that has ever happened.

They are very open about his transgressions, let’s just hope the Paladino’s were upfront about everything. Cuomo would love to his grimy hands on some dirt.

Yeah, Moe, we always have to hope that it’s all out there – but I think Cuomo has his own issues with his abrasive temper [he's really angered a lot of insider D's]. Consider that when he was running for AG, his brother in law Robert Kennedy Jr. had expressed interest in it first – and then backed out. A Kennedy backing out? He was probably pushed a little. And of course his flame out of his marriage to Kerry Kennedy – Bobby’s daughter, leaving 3 girls behind. Previously entitled “Cuomolot” it fizzled with his so-called flirting and her so-called affair. His lawyer enraged the Kennedys with a comment about her “behavior”. Worse, he let the media know that he was actually going to file suit for total custody of the kids!! Ugly and nasty divorce. So we have to wonder, in the divorce, who got the friends and political donors? Who got the media connections? I don’t think Andrew wants to get into a pissing match about what is a good or bad marriage.

    Yes, yes, yes and YES!!!!

I lived in NY for five years, and only for college. However, most of the rest of my family have lived there since they all migrated from Puerto Rico in the 1950s.

Those who wanted to prosper moved out of the City, and even the State. My moving day happened the day after my wedding – my husband had a job in NoVA at that time.

And then, there’s my (former) sister-in-law.

She has lived in Long Island’s Nassau County her entire life, and is raising my dear niece in Port Washington. (Expensive town, expensive schools… I mean, everything.) She can actually afford to live there, since she has a darned good job at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, and she lives in the (rather small, middle-class) house her parents bought decades ago, rent-free. However, she has noticed that the value of her house has skyrocketed to ridiculous levels ($700-800 grand) and her property taxes are becoming very difficult for her to pay. She actually asked us one time about how much housing costs in Texas and how much she can expect to pay in property taxes.

(I might want to convince my niece to go to college here in TX, so they can save on money and snow-pushing.)

We have visited a few times since then. I can assure you that you would have to tie us with electrical cords and torture us Iranian-style in order to move back to New York. Or CT, for that matter. And that is because of all of the things explained above.

Interesting concept – the Parasite Party and the Cocktail Party – the two political factions of the Ruling Class; the TEA Party – the Party of the American People. Hmmm…. I think I feel a post coming on…

Interestingly, at least some local Republican committees in NYS are galvanized to campaign for the Republican Congressional candidates and state legislature candidates, but often there’s no mention of Paladino. Hmmmm….the elephant in the living room?

    Got this in snail mail
“If you’re not Liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not Conservative when you’re 35, you have no brain.”

This was on the front of an invitation for a Halloween party I got. Inside it said there will be draft beer, boxed wine, perverse punch and cheap vodka and mountains of 5 dollar pizzas from Little Caesars. Cost per person is 75, keeping cost low so all else can go to kick the scary people out of Washington.

Don’t know how much room you guys have in Chicago to do such a thing, but I thought it was interesting. Have everyone cough up by the end of September and money can be sent 10/01.

I have lived my entire life in upstate NY,with a brief couple years in California. I am so saddened that when my husband retires in a few years,he is insistent on moving out this state. Taxes, cost of living and corruption have taken their toll. Since my husband owns a small business,we pray to God he can make it for a few more years without losing everything he has worked for.I’m going to pass this on to everyone I know.Lets vote all the bums out of NY.

Here’s proof people are voting with their feet. In the upcoming census report Florida will gain two seats, and New York will lose two. Very eye opening article, the parasites will not be pleased.

Very interesting. The population if Florida had decreased ever so slightly the past year or so, with it starting to rise again this year. I guess New York’s population must have went down significantly since the last census.

Inspired by the wonderful letter posted here, this Kansas gal went right over to http://paladinoforthepeople.com, and was THRILLED to find a DREAM CANDIDATE that I would be proud to have representing me in government.

I was happy to make a donation. (It will be fun to see if Paladino gets a “HillBuzz bump” in his campaign fund!)
