Mother Nature did a deadly march across the south
Can you imagine what it would be like to see the above tornado coming right at you? I hope I would have enough good sense to run to the nearest shelter but I’m afraid that I would be frozen in fear. I’ve been through a few tornadoes but none like this. The deep south saw a tornado outbreak yesterday that hasn’t happened in a very long time. It appears that Alabama was the hardest hit but Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee saw a lot of action as well. The deadly storms are now over North and South Carolina and will most likely do more damage before they are done. This has been quite an active spring for severe weather.
One report has the death toll at 85 but CBS News just reported that it was as high as 150. No matter what the toll is right now….I’m sure it will rise some as day breaks and we are better able to survey the damage. I have a lot of family in Alabama. I’ve lived in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and still have many friends there. I consider Alabama and Georgia my home states. The pictures coming out of Alabama this morning are heartbreaking.
I am praying that our HillBuzz family members that were involved in this disaster are all safe. Please let us know how you are and what you experienced yesterday.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Gee, this is a hard toss-up …. it's either Bush or Palins fault.
I feel so badly for these people. My prayers go out for them.
Oh how I wish there were a "sarcastic" font!
where's the like button?
If these tornados had blown through blue states (those that Obama won in 2008), do you think he'd be speaking about it? Has he done anything yet?
Obama declared Alabama a National Disaster Area so that FEMA can come in and give us aid. He visited Tuscaloosa.
My husband has a friend in Tuscaloosa and fortunately their home was not damaged, but he is just devastated by what has happened to their community. Send prayers. Has Obama addressed this horror impacting the south?
No, nor in Texas (for the wildfires). Remember how he mishandled the Gulf Spill and ignored flooding in Tennessee. And, he is going to use the environment as an excuse to shut down drilling in West Texas. The South must be punished, you see, for not supporting the Once.
PS. I refer to this as the NEW Southern Strategy.

One minute the subdivision is there, with the tornado looming; the next everything is gone but the rubble. Like a bomb went off.
Just waiting for the press conference where Obama and AlGore blame Global Warming for spring storms and tornadoes.
I live in Atlanta, and it was kind of scary watching the Weather Channel last night and hearing them say some of these thunderstorms (NOT tornadoes) had 125 MPH winds.
Oh my! This is beyond scary. Japan, New Zealand, and other parts had their earthquake and we have the tornadoes. My prayer is for people to be safe and may they be restored.
Tornadoes you can at least see/hear coming.
An earthquake that can turn the ground under feet into a liquid? that frightens me beyond the capacity for rational thought.
Neighbors are helping neighbors all across the country as it should be. These stories just don't get much coverage, My family spent last Saturday helping those impacted by NC storms on the 16th, it was a flash mob of volunteers, old, young, black, white, Asian, various church groups. The homeowners were so appreciative, at the end of the day, we were tired and sore but ready to do it all over again…there is much work left to be done.
Lake Martin got hit hard also….some million dollar homes siting in the lake from what I have heard.
No matter what we will still shout ROLL TIDE! T-town will be hopping this fall because we won't have it any other way!
Did you see Toomers for Tide on Facebook? Tide for Toomers was first after the poisoning of the Toomer's corner trees. A big check was given to help replace/heal the trees. Now we have turn about, it's good to see.
Don’t stop praying for us down in Alabama, guys! I’m a Huntsvillian who is playing refugee with family in Tennessee for a while. Tuscaloosa was badly hit, but so was a lot of North Alabama – Cullman, Scottsboro, Arab, and Phil Campbell, to name a couple. Lots of schools and small towns just wiped off the map now. The Alabama death count alone is now nearly 200. To make cleanup harder, almost the entirety of north Alabama is without power because our nuclear plant’s feeder lines went down in the storm. 90 lines are down and last I heard today, they were able to repair 15. Once those are fixed, it’s an estimate of anywhere from 4-7 days before power is restored to all places in that area of the state. As was mentioned above, communities are pulling together, but very few of us were prepared for all the devastation that hit!
What I’m seeing in Tennessee is more traditional storm damage – some linger power outages, some communities destroyed (although Ringgold, GA, on the other side of the state line from Chattanooga is hurting with 27 dead), but most of the damage is in the country, not the city. The damage here isn’t as frightening as in Alabama, but there are still people hurting here.
Any prayers sent down South would be helpful – we’re still not sure how long recovery will take!
In a matter of hours yesterday our Church put out the word that they were taking supplies down to a devestated community, huge trucks were filled with water, food and other supplies. We are not waiting for the gooberment to take care of our own. It is sooo sad!! College students went to Tuscaloosa and will never make it home again. So many were killed and had their homes and businesses destroyed. Huge churches and schools destroyed.
I lived through it. Worst afternoon of my life so far. My family is fine, my house is fine, but north alabama is not fine. We're strong folks, though, but for the time being, we'll be dusting off and helping our neighbors.
I am at my sister's house in Arkansas. I just arrived an hour ago and saw the photographs. I am in total shock. Heartbreaking. We had no idea Obama was in Tuscaloosa. (No power, no internet, no tv and the radio was busy organizing help for the people who needed food and whatnot.)
