Most unbelievable thing we have seen in a while (in a gross way). Largest pimple ever.

Posted on August 31, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Seriously…do not follow this link unless you have a strong stomach.  A friend of ours sent this to us on Facebook.  It’s video of a guy with the largest pimple (or is it a boil?) anyone we know has ever seen…massive, on his back near his neck.  His friend takes some kind of medical knife to it to pop it…and, well, you have to see it to believe it…but please see it long after dinner.

A friend of ours who went to med school says this is probably an MRSA infection.  We have no idea what that means. But it sure sounds bad.

After being equally grossed out and fascinated by this, we’re thinking about something else our med school friend told us.  She said popping this at home probably saved the guy about $700 in a visit to the ER. That made us think about all the things we’ve done at home ourselves, too, because we didn’t have insurance and couldn’t afford to go to the hospital.  Once, one of us here used fishing line and a thick needle to put in his own stitches after a bike accident because he couldn’t afford to go to the hospital.  And then, after the wound healed up, he took his own stitches out, too.

That’s crazy, but we’re sure it happens all the time. Home surgery, because people can’t afford to go to the doctor to have these things taken care.

The Deathcare plan the liberal Dems are now pushing through Congress isn’t going to change this…because it’s going to make access to doctors even HARDER to get (adding 57 million more people to the insurance rolls, including illegal aliens, without adding more doctors means more home surgeries may be needed, even for people who can afford to go to the doctor now…but will have limited, rationed access to doctors if Deathcare passes).

Scary, crazy, gross stuff

Probably you meant MRSA pronounced mersa, it’s a staph infection you pick up in a hospital. I was a victim, but I survived. My infection was after surgery and wasn’t in the form of a pimple either; also I didnt care to watch.

I did not watch the video, but most of the infections that cause large boils in otherwise healthy people are from CA-MRSA which stands for Community Acquired MRSA. You can get it from a hospital, but you can get it even if you’ve never set foot in one also.

I don’t see why you can’t buy antibiotics over the counter either…stuff like amoxicillin..imagine having four people in your family..say you all come down with a sinus infection or strep throat..then say you have a terrible doctor’s office and they insist that you all have to come in if you want a prescription..that’s 80.00 x 4= 320.00 for office visits that expose you to other things…and you feel like crap and would have just preferred to pick up the meds at CVS and go home…and since you have had the same thing in the past you already know what it is, etc, etc…plus 30.00 x 4 =120.00 for the meds almost 450.00 bucks for a sinus infection…now why does that have to be so difficult?? I have often thought of trying to find the antibiotics at a farm and feed store…they sell amoxicillin tablets at some of them…but Obamacare will probably make this even worse…

The reason MRSA is a problem is overuse/misuse of antibiotics that allowed bacteria to become resistant. Methicillin Resistant Staph Aureus. This bacteria is now difficult to control. Self diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics is precisely the wrong way to go. As more bacteria become resistant to antibiotics we need to use stronger (with more side effects and cost) and are seeing more lives compromised and some lost due to overwhelming infections that our antibiotic arsenal do not overcome.

Stacee – I completely agree with you about OTC antibiotics. The only concern is that people might take it for times when it’s not necessary, or don’t take it long enough so that the tougher to kill bacteria will multiple and you’ll be infected by a super-resistant strain. As for me, I know that once I’m on antibiotics, I need to be on it for 10 days, with or without symptoms. The other thing is that people taking antibiotics need to know is that they can come down yeast infections, which then requires follow up. But I’d rather do the OTC thing myself.

There is already overuse of antibiotics….so why not let me buy them over-the-counter..since they are now worthless?? Also..doctors are always prescribing with a stronger antibiotic even when the old standard works just fine..I think that is what contributes to drug-resistance as well..

Probiotics are a good prevention for this…whenever you take an antibiotic always take a probiotic with it..yes, yeast infections are bad..my five year old came down with a terrible one and at the time the doctor would not help us understand what was going on or how to fix it…I ended up talking to a pharmacist at Target who suggested probiotics and after two months she finally started to recover…but this happened because the antibiotic was too strong for her system…My point in reality was that, I am no fan of Obamacare, but things should change somehow to make it more affordable so people don’t have the ER as their only option…a lot of families could not afford that price for a sinus infection or strep throat…

Uh yeah, that was pretty much the most disgusting thing I’ve seen in quite awhile. Suddenly the bruise on my husband’s thigh (the size of a dessert plate) doesn’t seem so bad. Ewwwwyuck.

I also chose not to watch, I’ve had three children and watched the birth of two grandkids. Childbirth is a miracle and a gift from God, but it is gross.

There are times when you need a doctor and times when you don’t. My mother-in-law tried to treat my husbands gun shot wounds at home. He was a teenager out hunting with a group. There was an accident and he was shot through both legs. Luckily the bullet missed the bone and went straight through. The cops showed up at their house on an unrelated matter and one of the kids told them he had been shot. They almost charged his mother with neglect. He still has the newspaper clipping (45 years later).

I would agree Stacee about simple infections and anti-biotics, except for the fact that people are stupid. Can you see the lawsuit the first time someone self-prescribes anti-biotics and they die as a result?

In addition, we have a terrible problem that is only getting worse with the over prescription of anti-biotics and the appearance of resistant bacteria.

Also, please do not take medicines that are formulated for non-humans. Just think about it and you will not head toward the feed store anytime soon (I hope).

Well..actually you can buy the same antibiotics at a feed store, etc. They are not different; however, I did not say I did..just that I have thought about…over the years in desperation…besides people can die from taking Ibuprofen and it is available…drug resistance has a lot to do with doctor’s prescribing a stronger antibiotic than necessary as well…when amoxicillin will work fine even if you take it longer then why was it I had to take Cipro? I’m just asking questions…question most everything…it could be sold over the counter by limit like they do with products containing psedoephedrine now…you can only buy so much…or they could allow pharamacists to sell it and you have to sign a waiver…anyhow…those things would save money…besides the “risks” it’s just that somebody would be losing money…anyhow..

This looks like a boil to me. I spent my childhood in a tropical country and sometimes folks would develop these. I had one on my forearm as a kid and it was significantly painful. It was lanced like this video and it was amazing how much came out – no wonder it hurt so much.
This is an infection (smells) and hopefully these women poured an antibacterial on the area and monitor it to keep it extremely clean as it can spread easily.
Its gross but I agree with Tracey -seen alot worse.

This is a boil or risen. My brother used to get them all the time as a kid.My mom lanced them and poured antiseptic over them. She kept a clean bandage over them and they would always heal.Sometimes they are so big they leave scars and he has a few.Yes it is gross but that’s what you have to do unless you have the money to go to a doctor. And really that’s all a doctor would do if you went to one.

I am not supporting the idea of people skipping medical care and I think we need to make sure everybody has access, and the idea of the gov rationing services is atrocious, but I do think that in the US we are damaging our health with too much medical treatment.

I don’t know when we’ll ever get to this debate, but the pharmaceutical industry has way too much influence. People in America are being over medicated and over treated. Everything is viewed as a disease, simply getting older is viewed as a disease and requires dozens of pills and then more pills to combat the side effects. And then people start having drug interactions and medication mistakes and you have to have your liver tested for damage every month and before you know people really are sick and dependent on constant care. And you wind up in the hospital and now you’re exposed to mrsa and other infections.

That was gross to watch but not that bad. I think we over consume medical services in this country partially because costs are so hidden. Taking care of such things at home used to be very common and often the family doctor would just tell you what to do about something at home so you wouldn’t have to come in.

“Dr. Kyle, my husband has a hideous pimple on his back.” “What does it look like?” “Well it looks like…” “Ok, then just lance it and let me know what the stuff looks like that comes out.” “Its white and bloody” “Oh, you have an infection. Just push all the crap out, clean it and bandage it good. If your husband gets afever or something call me back” “okay”

Probably 1/2 of all doctors visits could be dealt with in this way except everyone’s terrified of being sued and we don’t know what the word “lance” means anymore.

This is all true and I don’t mean to put doctor’s down but they wouldn’t make money if they just told us what to do (80.00 x 4= 320.00 office visit for strep throat) “oh you have a sore throat that is very red, tender and has white patches all over it…oh and everyone at school has it as well..well you probably have strep and since you have had it in previous years I’m sure you remember…I’ll call some meds in for you…)…doesn’t happen much around where I live…remember when doctors actually did house calls?? Where does that happen anymore?? Loss of money…and besides you could sign a waiver with the office saying you would not sue if something happens by your dealing with the problem over the phone…but….loss of money…

As an almost graduated medical student, I ask you what other profession would you ask to give up their services for free? There is a lot of debt and work that goes into knowing what to do and what will and won’t work as far as treatment goes. Why shouldn’t doctors get paid for utilizing that knowledge? You wouldn’t ask your plumber to work for free and take on liability for nothing. Calling in antibiotics for a problem you haven’t seen is taking on a liability with no payment or reimbursement of any kind, and seems to be what you’re advocating.

And that definitely looks like an infected sebaceous cyst, not the biggest or grossest I’ve ever seen.

Could be that a few different things cause similar symptoms, but my dog had something like this on his back, and when lanced, the same cottage cheese type of stuff came out. The vet said it was a blocked gland – it was one of the glands that is supposed to release oil to keep the skin supple, but when blocked, it gets all cottage-cheesy like that.

My grandfather and my brother have both had them, and in places slightly more uncomfortable than this.

Thankfully, I wasn’t around when they were popped because that was tolerable (still disgusting, but tolerable) to watch; but if it smelled as bad as they said in the video…GAG!
