Hmm. Turns out that Valerie Jarrett DID mistake a four star general for a waiter:

“It was an honest mistake that ANYONE could have made. She was sitting, I was standing and walking behind her and all she saw were the two stripes on my pants which were almost identical to the waiters pants — REALLY.

“She apologized and will come to the house for dinner if a date can be worked out in March,” Chiarelli wrote in an e-mail.”

    (1) Wow. That’s really gracious.

    (2) Imagine if Sarah Palin had done that.

This is the first thing that came to my mind when I read your (very good) point:

“I think that what the administration has said very clearly is that we’re going to speak truth to power.”

She was talking about Fox News.

        http://michellemalkin.com/2009/10/28/look-who-called-out-fox-news-basher-valerie-jarrett/

They tell themselves that they’re never “The Man” – there’s always someone else in power.

That means they can always tell themselves that what they do is justified, because they’re the little guy. What would be an egregious case of bullying becomes just a little mistake.

Wouldn’t the gracious thing be for HER to have HIM over for dinner? She was the one that made the mistake. So he’s going to have her over so he can wait on her some more?

Or – why does there need to be a dinner? Why does every mistake the administration makes need to be dealt with using drinks and food?

That story came out and then it raised a stink and they made the GENERAL release a statement talking about how no big a deal it was. I guarantee you…He did not do that on his own. So instead of Valerie Jarrett having enough CLASS to APOLOGIZE publically they more or less came down on the general about it. That’s how this WH works.

Women in the Cairo Street Scenes: a Troubling Photo Essay

      http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/142158

      From the article:

“According to a June, 2010 Pew opinion survey of Egyptians:

Fifty nine percent said they back Islamists. Only 27% said they back modernizers. Half of Egyptians support Hamas. Thirty percent support Hizbullah and 20% support al Qaida. Moreover, 95% of them would welcome Islamic influence over their politics….Eighty two percent of Egyptians support executing adulterers by stoning, 77% support whipping and cutting the hands off thieves. 84% support executing any Muslim who changes his religion…When this preference is translated into actual government policy, it is clear that the Islam they support is the al Qaida Salafist version.”

This is why she’s great. But read the commenters; they’re either Cocktail Party MORONS or they’re trolls. Possibly both.

Doesn’t refute debating points, just says they (factual evidence and historical record) are wrong and considers himself the winner. Great article on why multiculturalism is a bad idea, and why real tolerance is what’s needed:

“The reinterpretation of tolerance as non-judgmentalism or indifference is often seen as a positive thing; apparently, open-minded people are non-judgmental.

“In truth, the gesture of affirmation and acceptance can be seen as a way of avoiding making difficult moral choices, and a way of disengaging from the challenge of explaining which values are worth upholding.

“It is far easier to dispense with moral judgment entirely than to explain why a certain way of life is preferable to another way of life that should be tolerated, yes, but not embraced.

“That is probably why the indulgent indifference of multiculturalism has gained so much traction in recent decades: in Britain and many other European societies, multiculturalism has spared governments the hassle of having to spell out the principles underpinning their way of life.”

    http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php/site/article/10163/

I’ve lost count of the number of people who snarl at me, “I don’t want you to tolerate me/my way of life/my culture/my religion; I want you to respect it!”

It’s a thought police – it’s not that you have to just let them live their lives. You have to *like* it as well.

And part of it is that if you don’t like someone, for whatever reason, the government can’t trust you to not be violent, so they have to regulate your feelings.

Unseen is good on financial issues, too. Pay attention to his posts.

Actually, there are several very well-informed commenters on Hot Air who are good on financial matters, but Ed and Allah are weak. Their finacial posts reflect a very basic conservative understanding of the economy, but neither is capable of sophisticated analysis. Generally speaking, on politics they are weak and naive squishes. Their strongsuit is foreign policy/war on terror. It’s surprising they have not found a new strong and consistently conservative voice for that site.

Worse yet, my Dad has bought into some of it as well. I have a degree in architecture, but they were trying to convince me that some heroin-addict student who made a YouTube video knows more about structural integrity than I do.

I emailed them asking if they ever read the comments or paid any attention to the polls they run because even though the AOL establishment is Progressive/Liberal, their subscribers are almost all conservative. I can see they listened about as well as Liberals usually do.

        It’s not “health”.

It’s class. The credentialed gentry have this idea that certain classes of people are feeding their kids cack, and that’s why there are the problems there are in certain areas.

It’s a copout: Your kids aren’t failing because of awful schools; they’re failing because you – allegedly – feed them “bad” foods.

So of course they need to step in and oh so generously tell you what to do.

And, when their educational/healthcare/urban planning ideas fail (and they will), it will all still be your fault and they get to continue looking down at you!

        Win-Win! (For them.)

It’s not about obesity or health. It is part of the “Americans are Arrogant” “Americans should apologize” tour. Pictures of fat Americans overseas makes us look lazy, over-fed, and arrogant. Which is how the progressives WANT us to look. They want to destroy our country as we know it. They want to destroy capitalism.

They don’t give a hoot what WE think…it’s the perception of Americans overseas that they are after.

Everyone I know is talking about how much they LOVED (myself included)this Eminem Chrysler ad. Its an amazing, unprecedented 2 minute Superbowl ad.
I wish it had been a Ford ad, instead of the GovtbailoutChrysler, but it most acutely captures the pride “that runs generations deep” thru most Detroiters. It reminded me of the Kid Rock 2010 AMA performance of “Times Like These”.
Exact same pride, same hope, same grit.

It is a real pride that runs deep. That pride/arrogance overrides the derision.
        It always has, always will.

The thing is, they spent 9 million on this ad, and in the meantime are asking for better terms from the government (aka: us the taxpayers) to keep solvent.

The ad reminded me of Kid Rock’s 2010 AMA performance of “Times Like These”, it conveyed the exact same sentiment. It sure didn’t cost 9-12 million.
It is, again, spot on, in describing that “pride” that runs deep in most every Detroiter (and Michigander in this case).

The Chrysler head Sergio Marchione called the US taxpayer money that saved his company “Shyster Loans” – instead of blaming us taxpayers Chrylser should blame the unions and Obama who prevented the bankruptcy route – which could have made them stronger – instead it is only a matter of time until they disappear

Eminem driving thru the Detroit ghost town throwing US tax dollars out the window is the winning strategy that $9 million buys? really?

I’m from Detroit, and have family there still. In fact, I was just there a few months ago. I really enjoyed that ad, as well, and completely get what you are saying.

I think there are a lot of misconceptions about Detroit. Yes, there are many run-down areas and buildings. Yes, it is nowhere near the shining city it was in it’s heyday. But…it has made significant changes over the past several years. It even hosted the Super Bowl and was a great success.

Detroit has had a lot of economic problems recently, especially with people like Kwame Kilpatrick in charge. But what city isn’t facing financial hardship right now?

None of these things negate what Detroit still has going for it. That’s what the commercial was all about. And Detroit’s spirit is not broken. They are a proud and determined bunch, with their mind set on rebuilding their city. That’s the spirit that shined through in the commercial. I thought it was very charming and hit the nail on the head. (and I don’t even like Eminem) ;)

I posted this last night…The MSM will never give her a fair break…even Fox …..Sarah needs to give interviews to local radio and TV stations, and local newspapers. They would be elated to get an exclusive interview with her. They would give her all the time she wants and I believe they would be fair….Think about it…where do most people get their news first because it concerns them more directly. Almost everyone watches their local news, but don’t always watch the world news…They tune in to there 6:00 local news and weather stations…..just a thought…I know if I wanted to get out the news unfiltered and have it spread around the community, that’s what I would do just like you would be advertising a product for sale, pick the best time slots, what better than local news…..”its starts with a small village”….
    2. She could start with Iowa and New Hampshire…Hillary did very well with Small town hall Q&A meetings and Similcasting on the internet…she really started to connect with the people.Things may have been different for her if she had started them earlier in her campaign….

I never watch my local news. I rarely watch the news at all. I scan headlines from all the news, left and right, and from overseas. Ironically, overseas news is more enlightening because our news here in the US is too misleading and agenda driven.

I think Sarah is being smart by staying on HER focus. She is just like the average American and comes across as just like us for a reason. She does not play the games the media industry wants her to play. That is why I love her so much. She refuses to be bought and paid for.

I second that Bev. I don’t watch the local news either. Haven’t do so in almost 15 years. Our newscasters here in Phoenix are fake, and make fools out of themselves.

I think going on the Rush Limbaugh Show would be the way to go…

I even stopped watching Fox. I stepped back and look at the headlines and the PATTERN of the news now. It’s all a scam. Even Fox. Although, I agree with the opinion of Fox and trust them MORE they are still part of a larger industry that is all the same.

The Obama administration has been held in contempt of court by Judge Feldman in Louisiana for their refusal to resume drilling permits in the Gulf. Where is the outrage! Where is the press? This administration is intentionally violating a court order and further depressing the Gulf states’ economy, and probably contributing to the higher gas prices that also aren’t being reported. Outrageous!

The Los Angeles Times reports that Barack Obama had not just ignored Egyptian human rights issues over the past two years, but actually cut funding for activist groups trying to reform Egypt:

Although President Obama has sided firmly with pro-democracy protesters in Egypt, his administration spent its first two years easing the U.S. push for human rights reforms in that country.

Waves of Conservative Dem Officials in South Join GOP
Former conservative Democratic officials are helping to churn the Deep South into a red sea as they find friendlier waters in the Republican Party, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. And the expatriates aren’t just fringe elements of the Democratic Party but rather, former stars expected to make the party shine.

Ashley Bell of Hall County, Ga.
For example, Ashley Bell, a county commissioner in Hall County, Ga., is a young black lawyer who had been president of the College Democrats of America, had advised presidential candidate John Edwards, and even spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston.

But 30-year-old Bell joined the Republicans after the Democratic drubbing in the fall elections. He told the Times that he finds President Barack Obama’s healthcare law as seriously flawed, and he contends that conservative blue-dog Democrats in Congress who share that opinion were bullied into voting for Obamacare.

The Times chronicles Bell’s defection as one among dozens of state and local Democratic officials in the Deep South in recent months as evidence that Republicans continue to consolidate power there.

Sorry bud, but we do not want another Bush for our president. They are not royalty. Granted Jeb is a nice guy, and has done some great things for Florida, but he is not going to be, or ever will be our President. Geeze!
