Hey, fun show, Kevin!
I didn't get to talk about Ron Paul nearly enough (to the delight of most listeners, I'm sure) but I'll do that in a future show.
Thanks for having me on!
Great show, Kevin and Kathleen!
I enjoyed the program. Kathleen, you mentioned local, private charity. Do you remember the men's citizen groups in the 1930s who would help those out of a job or needing medical assistance? They brought together fellow businessmen, church groups, and other community members to help those in need – gave them a hand up until they could help themselves. They felt a responsibility to give back to the community, simply because they were able to do so. The men's citizen groups ceased to exist once charity was assigned to the government. While they were in operation, even despite the Depression, there were no homeless people.
Exactly the point I was trying to make, Layla.
Back in the day, I had a job where I was in charge of raising money for a non-profit organization. So I went to a lot of training events for "development officers." In one, I learned that citizens of the United States of America are THE most generous, civic-minded people on the face of the earth. By several orders of magnitude.
Once the gubmint takes over charity, individuals stop helping each other because "it's the government's job." So in the socialist/social democrat counties in Europe, old people routinely die during heat waves, etc., because no one feels obligated to check on them.
And that's what socialists, progressives, leftists, communists and other collectivists, and their offspring (Barack Hussein Obama and his cronies) are trying to create here.
