Illinois Ground Report: It is now safe to walk around Chicago in a Mitt Romney tee shirt. No one will scream at you, spit at you, or call you a racist…I swear!

Posted on September 19, 2012 by Kevin DuJan // Ground Reports, Midwest

My friend Penny Arcade and I designed the above Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan shirt based on a photograph she liked of the two of them; we’re going to wear these as our campaign 2012 uniforms.  I made a few of them so I could wear one every day, and one for Justin too. I plan on wearing it everywhere I go through November 6th. Remember that I live in Chicago…and let me remind you what happened in 2008 when I’d wear anything with Hillary Clinton on it (and then later John McCain or Sarah Palin) when I’d go out and about in Chicago.

Just four years ago, black people would come up to me, try to spit in my face, and would scream that I was a racist because I was not supporting Barack Obama and DARED to wear anything backing Hillary and then later McCain/Palin.  They would go completely UNHINGED at anything that wasn’t praising “The One”.  Leftie loons of the privileged, young, white variety would also scream expletives, push me on the train, and shout that “Anyone who doesn’t vote for Obama is racist!” garbage.  Though no one was sitting at Obama command centers specifically telling each individual to do this, the general vibe in Obama supporter ranks was to “get in their faces!” and to essentially bully and otherwise intimidate people who weren’t supporting Obama to become completely invisible.  Anyone backing Hillary in the primaries or McCain/Palin in the general election was targeted with the full-on Alinsky Death Star.  It was actually kind of scary to go out in Chicago in my Democrats for McCain tee shirt because the laser-focused hatred emanating from the eyes of Obama supporters did make me feel afraid for my personal safety at times.

Things are 100% different in 2012.  That fervor to elect Obama is long gone and his supporters no longer even bat at eye at someone supporting Mitt Romney.  Even in Chicago, his formerly zealous voters feel no compunction to berate Republicans, bully Romney supporters, or call anyone a racist who isn’t drinking the hopeychange Kool-Aid.

Obama is going to lose, folks…and lose BIG.

I’ve spent the last week or so going to all sorts of places in Romney/Ryan gear and while I have received a few looks from people who are surprised to see a Romney shirt on someone in Chicago, I’ve had no bad experiences while in 2008 I couldn’t walk to the end of my block without being screamed or spit at by Obama lunatics.  I even get a lot of thumbs-up and questions about “where (I) got that”.

This is something the media doesn’t report, or even acknowledge exists, but the reality is that 2008 was a massive fluke and was powered largely by raw emotion: Americans thought it was time to “make history” and elect a magical black man to be President because they thought the color of this guy’s skin was going to “change the world”.  Well, they were right about that…but in a very Twilight Zone kind of way people were not at all careful with what they wished for and the change that resulted over the last four years isn’t what they wanted.

Record unemployment, with between 25-30 million Americans either out of work or underemployed. $16 Trillion in national debt (and exploding with more daily). Islamic radicals conquering the Middle East, raping and murdering male ambassadors, and the White House ignoring clear security warnings and even considering releasing the “Blind Sheik” 1993 World Trade Center bomber.  Obama’s watching the world burn and is enjoying it.  Meanwhile, Obamacare’s terrified small businesses, forced many of them to shutter, and has frozen most hiring.  We’re in an economic Depression caused by the wasteful 2009 “stimulus” (that went mostly into union coffers) and the uncertainty and zealous regulations of Obamacare.

People know Obama has failed and made a giant mess in Washington.  Many are still uncomfortable admitting the first black man in the job was not as magical as they thought he’d be. These people not only won’t turn out for him in numbers he needs them to in November, but here in Chicago at least they have no interest at all in physically accosting, screaming at, or otherwise trying to bully anyone who doesn’t support Obama.

What happens when a would-be dictator loses his unpaid goon squads on the street?

I think we’re going to find out come November 6th, folks.

Are you noticing anything like this where you live?  If so, send in a Ground Report and let us know!

Yep, this has always been my analysis as well. I remember on election day 2008 there seemed to be a glimmer that McCain would eek out a win, but Obama was new, magical, etc. Obama has disappointed because he promised so much. Anytime someone promises such grandiose things, he’s inevitably going to upset a lot of people.

Meanwhile, the media is panicking. I opened up aol mail today, and among the “news” items- “Republicans are worried about Romney after his bad week.”

Brian — this is all the media has now. They can’t counter anything because their guy is such a loser. So instead they are trotting out the “Romney gaffe” and “Romney’s bad week” nonsense hoping to discourage conservatives from voting. Remember Bush v Gore in 2000, when the leftist media called Florida for Gore 3 hours before polls had closed out here in the west? I knew of several people who just gave up and didn’t vote because they thought it was all over. That’s exactly what the media is doing now. It’s all they have. The favorite is use of the word “gaffe”. The call EVERYTHING Romney says a gaffe, and then ask any conservative on any interview if he is prepared to apologize or take responsibility for “Romney’s gaffe”. THEY ARE SO TRANSPARENT! Don’t let them get away with it!

I agree, it will be a day to celebrate. I have been debating closing the business for November 6th to ensure we all get to the polls and cast our votes against Obama. I certainly do not want business to get in the way of our team getting to place their vote. It is too important.

But I think my husband, the slave driver (just kidding) will veto me. I told him I will stand in line for 8 hours just to make sure I vote…someone else will have to cover the phones!

I cannot believe that you had people spit on you in 2008…what the heck? Yeah, that is a great way to get “change.” And they say Republicans are the haters. I tell ya, the left are masters of projection.

Problem is that DIFM already means something.

      DIFM = Dude I’d F*cking Marry.

Which, on the back of a Romney/Ryan tee shirt, takes on a whole new meaning. Could be Dudes I’d F*cking Marry…but I don’t believe in gay marriage or think the term is appropriate. Civil unions is the way to go.

Nice to hear you on the civil union-thing. Really, juSt arguing semantics, except “marriage” = more government involvement & more divorces = more $ for lawyers. I am for “separation of marriage & state,” like Judge Andrew Napolitano, who the DOJ is investigating for sedition! Unreal!

Cafe Press is AWFUL by the way. Zazzle too. Both are terrible quality.

The best way to ever make a shirt is to just design it yourself and use that http://www.OOshirts.com site. You can customize it yourself and get one that is nice quality and fits. And it’s cheaper than Cafe Press most of the time!

You can also get a nice shirt you like from Target for $9 (sometimes as cheap as $6 on sale) and then do an iron-on. You just have to make sure to NEVER wash these in the machine. Hand wash, gently, in sink and then air dry only.

I dry these on a boxy floor fan. Sounds stupid, but it works. You know what I mean…a fan that is square and sits on the floor and does not oscillate. I just drape a shirt on it (already rung out gently so it’s not sopping wet) and I place it over the fan so it’s stable but the air’s circulating. In like half an hour the shirt is dry and the fan was running anyway because I have it going in the living room all the time.

I just dry stuff one at a time like this for Justin and me and then I don’t have to go down into the nasty laundry room where I never have enough quarters.

    Great article Kevin!

Don’t know if you ever visit this site, but they sometimes have very insightful posts.

“Black America Stands Down for the Obamas”

“Barack Obama and the first lady made the case for retrograde politics and quasi-fascist doctrines…..

“Black Americans have made the worst political deal in world history and now have nothing to show for it ….. The Democrats definitely won the propaganda war between the two conventions but that doesn’t mean that black people won anything. We won the right to subjugate ourselves for the second time for a still dubious reason. The self-abnegation and happy willingness to take a back seat for the sake of the happiness engendered by Obama’s presence as POTUS is very shameful and hopefully not to be repeated again. If the reaction to Obama would take place with any other black president, let us hope that Obama is not just the first black president, but the last one as well.

It’s actually sad to hear black people defend Obama with such desperate emotion, as though their whole sense of self-worth were bound up in seeing a president whose bio dad (but not a father in any meaningful sense) came from the same continent as their own ancestors. And most of those people I would probably respect more than I respect Obama — if they weren’t so ferociously devoted to him.

That said, I don’t hope or expect that Obama will be the last black president — just the worst black president.

If Obama loses big, or even just loses, this November, I suspect it is going to be a tremendous embarrassment to the Black community. Unfortunately, they’ll mistakenly see it as America rejecting a ‘black’ man instead of America rejecting a doctrinaire Marxist. (It’s gotten to the point where most Americans can no longer identify marxism when they see it.)

What are your thoughts on this? I was thinking of getting my family our of town that week. I think it’s going to be dangerous.

I lived in Chicago for 23 years. I never saw real love between Chicago’s black community and Obama not the way there had been with Harold Washington. I always likened Obama to a son-in-law who always remained a bit of an outsider, respected but never truly one of the family.

As for other parts of the county, Asheville is a small scale San Francisco wannabe. In 2008 being for Barack was all the rage. Things never got out of hand with screaming or threats towards those who didn’t support him (a concealed carry state is a polite state) but it was definitely one sided within the city limits of Asheville. This year it’s blah! Very few signs or bumper stickers and no one is talking politics as if it was a hot trend.

Fearless Leader, a.k.a. Barack Obama had already directed his supporters to do this, whether or not the underlings at Obama command centers told supporters to do so.

“I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face.“

Fortunately, they don’t do it so much this time around.
