"I thought this site existed already. It's called HillBuzz".

Posted on February 25, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

We have no idea if this was meant as a slap at us, or what, but we thought it was hilarious.

Because of all the pro-LGBTQ coverage Hot Air has been running lately, someone sent them a graphic for “the redesign of Hot Air”:

H/t Hot Air

In comments on that post, someone said the following:

“I thought this site already existed.  It’s called HillBuzz”.

What’s really funny, and prescient, is that we really like the layout of this fake “Gay Air” site.  We also wish one of us was a cartoonist, because we’d have a lot more art like this, and we love the purple.  All that’s missing is our big 70s yellow logo and crudely rendered bee, and a touch more personality, and it’s kind of a glimpse into what we want the site to look like when we finally get onto a dedicated server and off WordPress.

We’re so taking the “It’s called HillBuzz” as a compliment.

The fact readers of a conservative site like Hot Air even have a bunch of gay Hillary Dems in Boystown, Chicago on their radar enough to crack jokes about us tells us we’re getting through to someone.

And that’s a pretty cool thing.

It is so cute. I saw it over at Gay Patriot’s site and it made me laugh so hard.

    Loved it

    Hey guys,

I’m the cartoonist who did the fake layout. I’m a regular in the Green Room at Hot Air.

I created the fake front to tweak someone who had been complaining that Hot Air had suddenly “gone gay” after they were recently purchased.

As a long time reader of Hot Air I couldn’t really tell there was anything different but the idea of a “Gay Hot Air” so amused me I had to draw it up.

I *am* kicking myself I left Hillbuzz out of the headlines. What was I THINKING?!

I’m so glad you guys got a kick out of it.

    • JR Dogman says:
      2010/02/25 at 3:32 am

Hey, Sarjex, thanks — I loved the graphic. I’m a regular Hot Air reader, and I have long wanted the GOP to take a federalist position on gay marriage. Plenty of gays are fiscally conservative, pro-defense, and even pro-life — also noteworthy, I read an article a couple of years back that said gays are among the fastest-growing group of gun owners in America, along with the elderly and single women. Makes sense, huh?

Gay marriage is a state issue, just like abortion — let the states express their own respective characters via the ballot box, not the courts, then we can all vote with our feet.

This is wonderful! I’m so glad to see so many really funny things coming out of the Republican party/conservatives. For so long we have had the reputation of being old fuddy-duddies. Keep up the good work, and kudos on this great layout!

Sarjex ~ well done and really entertaining :) Loved Meagan’s “uhm, what?”…spot on!

Here’s a little secret – if you e-mail Allahpundit at HotAir, and tell him you want to register to comment, he will usually let you do it.

Don’t tell him I told you, or he might rescind my privileges ;-) …..

What I find fascinating is that the classroom was shown as multi-cultural…in 1960 no less. Hmmm. Was that before or after the civil rights bill in 1968 and (this I really don’t know, so shame on me for being too lazy to look up) mandatory school bussing?

  • Library Countess says:

I was at Hot Air just before Hillbuzz and saw this, and was going to post the link here. Obviously I am already way behind and it’s not even 8 a.m.!

I think it’s hysterical! I also read Sarjex’s entry there (which you should read if you haven’t). I agree that it’s a compliment.

  • yttik says:
    2010/02/25 at 8:26 am

LOL, that is a cute cartoon. It made me laugh. Purple is my favorite color but I’m still partial to that bee at Hillbuzz.

Watching the shift in attitude has been wonderful. Some people are whining, change is always hard for some sticks in the mud. But Dick Cheney has been out there advocating, Cindy McCain and her daughter, and Hillbuzz, too. It is a cool thing to be seeing unfold right before your eyes.

    • random says:
      2010/02/25 at 7:41 pm

“Watching the shift in attitude has been wonderful”

It’s not a shift in attitude. It’s a shift in who’s getting attention. The holier-than-thou wing of the conservative movement has always been more active, and activist, than the fiscal conservative, libertarian wing of the movement. Those people, by very definition, have been conservative about their politics as well as in their views.

No longer. The last year has seen an uprising of the true conservatives in America. Whether it sustains, remains to be seen.

  • Esther says:

I want to stop a moment and say “Thank You” for all that you do here. I know that I’m not a regular commenter but I watch your blog every day and read almost every entry. What you guys are doing here is just awesome and I just wanted to express my appreciation.

  • Kelly says:
    2010/02/25 at 8:59 am

I don’t think it was meant as a slap! More as a very witty response to recent wonderful pro-gay happenings on the right. I love it! So damn funny. It was a moment to inject some humor into something – and God knows, these days we all need humor more than anything.

Something about that Reagan one just kills me, Reagan gone fabulous. Well, as much as possible. So great.

    • Kelly says:
      2010/02/25 at 9:07 am

Wait, is that not Reagan? Hm. Well, whomever, in the top right, love it.

And Boyz: You’re totally correct – this is an indication that moderate dems and moderate repubs are increasingly overlapping – and that is awesome. Because we need a huge, growing group of pro-America Americans to stand up in Nov and again in 2012.

You Boyz, without a doubt, are getting through to people. And also helping to bridge the dem-repub divide – powerfully and positively so!

      • DMB says:
        2010/02/25 at 11:29 am

It is absolutely Reagan and the caption of “Sexy Beast” is LOL funny!

        • Kelly says:
          2010/02/25 at 12:04 pm

Ah! Thank you. Couldn’t read the caption. Reagan as sexy beast?!?! Oh it just keeps getting better. This is the gift that keeps on giving.

      • Aussie says:

I am an Australian and to tell the truth, I think it is awesome that the true moderates from Dems and Repubs are coming together in this fashion.

You are all middle America and you need to stand together to get rid of the Marxist in the White House before he damages the credibility of the USA forever..

BTW I have relatives… an Australian aunt and American cousins.

  • PhillyCon says:

    Hillboyz:
CONGRATS! This means you are making a HUGE impact on political scene. Its very cool and it definately should be taken as a compliment. This also puts those attacks in perspective, the DNC types were feeling it.

I hope this puts to rest the left wing notion that ring wingers are “anti-gay.” What nonsense.

    • Kelly says:
      2010/02/25 at 9:14 am

It is total nonsense. If it vestiges of homophobia remain on the right – it’s shrinking daily. And it’s pretty much all over age 70 (with a few Ryan Sorbas here and there, who are getting rightfully shamed). It’s literally moribund. The youth voice on the right officially declared at CPAC that it is the new, loudest GOP/conservative voice. And it happens to be big time pro gay equality.

How damn awesome is that. Perhaps the most significant and important social event the right has ever seen. I love it, at least in decades.

A great article on this very seminal GOP moment:

      http://bigjournalism.com/bcarroll/2010/02/23/the-homocon-tipping-point-why-cpac-was-a-milestone-weekend-for-gays/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BigJournalism+%28Big+Journalism%29

  • Teresa in Fort Worth, TX says:

This is a hoot! And the comment is just an example of the dry wit that so many conservatives have – not a diss on you; just wry commentary (that usually ends up with a beverage spewed all over a keyboard and/or monitor screen in more than one home or office).

Hey, if you guys are getting mentioned at HotAir, you’ve really hit the big time!

    Good news :]

  • George says:

I am actually quite glad to see these recent lighthearted mentions of the gay conservative community. I am straight and hold many conservative values but I also live in the SF bay area and have several very dear friends who I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world who are gay. They are enjoying their life their way, I am enjoying mine in my way and together we have had some great times. There is more to be gained by concentrating on what binds us as community than there is in focusing on our differences. And someone else who lives their life differently than I do isn’t a threat to my life or values or diminish my life experience nor am I a threat to theirs.

I am happy to see the gay conservative community recognized in a playful manner and also glad to see it taken in that spirit and not as an attack. This is the way forward, folks. There is more that binds us than that which separates us. I believe fundamentally we all want the same things. We want a better future, we want a responsible government, and we want to see our resources used in an efficient manner that benefits us all yet favors none above the other.

I think today is a good day.

I saw the Photoshopped GayAir thing over at HotAir itself, and also immediately thought of you guys. It is hilarious, the graphic that is. I also agree that the “…already exists, HillBuzz” comment was a compliment. The only person in my sphere of influence that *doesn’t* generally like HillBuzz is a extremely far left fascist.

As far as what would be “HotAir regulars” knowing about HillBuzz, or having HillBuzz on their radar, isn’t really that surprising to me. All of us disinfranchised conservative Republicans are tired of the “racist” and “homophobe” labels and are spreading the wealth (site visits) to sites beyond our “normal scope” today. I love HillBuzz, GayPatriot, AnotherBlackConservative and so on. Went on a quest to find and cruise these sites starting last Summer…to comment, and spread the word that we (Southern Conservative Reps) were also normal people (that like limiting government to the essentials and basic fiscal responsibility) -and really don’t give a rat’s patooty about one’s sexual orientation or skin color.

But dudes, c’mon, Rush has even blurbed your posts on-air in the recent past…you’re on everyone that matters’ radar…didn’t you realize that when you were attacked last month? You likely had a large hand in getting Awesome McHottie elected…certainly you were big in getting him funded. IMHO, you guys – in the time you’ve been online with HillBuzz – have gone from a merry band of ardent Hillary supporters to legitimate political commentators who just happen to be gay, Democrat, Hillary supporters.
