How to Contact Senators and Congress to let them know you are angry Obama is going to release “Blind Sheik” to Egypt
If you’re upset by reports that Barack Obama wants to release “the Blind Sheik”, Omar Abdel-Rahman, to Egypt despite this man being responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center in NYC, then today you need to take some action. I’ll make it easier for you by spelling out exactly what you can do, how best to do it, and the whole thing should take you no more than 15 minutes.
You need to write a letter, via Fax or US Mail (not email), to your two Senators and your Member of Congress. You can find their contact information HERE. If you do not have a fax machine (like I don’t), you can send reliable and FREE faxes via Fax Zero. I use this thing all the time, several times a day, and it works great for messages under three pages (you have to pay to use it for longer documents).
In the letter, you need to request your Senators and Member of Congress contact the Congressional liaison to the Justice Department and complain on your behalf that President Obama is planning to release Omar “the Blind Sheik” Abdel-Rahman. One of the best kept secrets out there in politics is that each federal agency has an official “Congressional liaison” who exists to carry complaints from the public to the respective agencies via Congress. While most agencies tend to ignore mail coming from individual Americans, they actually pay attention when the Congressional liaison becomes involved. So far, I’ve used this process about a half dozen times when I was getting nowhere on various issues for friends and felt different agencies were ignoring us or pretending to never receive our letters; within a few days of the Congressional liaisons becoming involved, however, magically intractable federal bureaucrats took time out of their days to respond to us. This stuff really works, folks.
Below you will find a copy of the letter that I’m sending to Congress today asking for the liaison to the Justice Department to make it clear to the President that releasing “The Blind Sheik” would be like turning Charles Manson or the Unabomber loose. This just cannot happen as a matter of national security and public safety. This is one of those things that I will never regret writing a letter about, but will kick myself if Obama goes through with it and I did nothing to try to stop it. There are cynics out there in the “Legion of Gloom” who say “they won’t care if people write in” but I’ll tell you that they actually do care…because these people HATE getting mail from the general public. They love being cloistered in their monumental edifices in Washington, DC far removed from having to deal with the public. Remember when Eric Holder wanted to move terrorist trials to lower Manhattan and the people in NYC rose up against the administration to such an extent that Obama was forced to back down? That’s what needs to happen here.
Please do your part. It will take no more than 15 minutes of your time, and will be either free (by fax) or cost the price of a stamp, a piece of paper, and an envelope.
Here’s my letter, sent to Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin and Congresscritter Jan Schakowsky this morning (via US Mail and Fax Zero fax):
Dear Senator Kirk,
My name is Kevin DuJan and I speak for other constituents of yours here in Illinois; I am concerned by reports circulating that President Barack Obama intends to release Omar “The Blind Sheik” Abdel-Rahman to Egypt and ask that you contact the Congressional Liaison to the Justice Department on my behalf to inform Attorney General Eric Holder that the people of Illinois believe it’s a threat to national security and public safety to ever set free the man convicted of masterminding the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. “The Blind Sheik” was duly tried, convicted, and sentenced to a lifetime in prison and the Justice Department should not supersede this for whatever whim the current President has at the moment.
Last year, the people of Illinois were horrified when Scotland released the terrorist convicted of bombing Pan Am flight 103 that was downed near Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988; supposedly this was done because the man was “dying” but he made a miraculous recovery in Beirut, where he is now free and has become a rallying symbol for Islamic terrorists worldwide showing that if they just wait long enough they’ll eventually reap rewards for the murders of Americans. This is not the message we should be sending and the Justice Department would be irresponsible if it did not strongly caution President Obama to rethink his bizarre impulse to free “The Blind Sheik”.
Please know that voters are watching this issue closely and will hold everyone involved accountable at the polls should “The Blind Sheik” be freed without strenuous objections from Congress and the Justice Department. I thank you and your staff for seeing that the Congressional Liaison to the Justice Department takes my concerns directly to Attorney General Holder so that “The Blind Sheik” remains in federal prison on US soil for as long as he was sentenced.
Note: Feel free to use my letter as a starting point for your own. It should just be a few paragraphs long, getting the main points across. The key is asking for the Congressional Liaison to the Justice Department to become involved, which means it’s the Senators’ and Congressional offices complaining on your behalf to Eric Holder…not just you writing directly. Holder will ignore you, but he can’t ignore Congress (well…he actually does ignore Congress all the time, but this sort of noise worked when Holder tried to endanger New York by trying terrorists in lower Manhattan and the complaints of the public stopped him then and will stop him again now).
