How did Bristol Palin do on Week Six of Dancing with the Stars? Live Results Watch Thread

Posted on October 26, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

www.GetCookiesbyKatie.com

Use this thread to live-post during the Dancing with the Stars Results Show tonight.  We’re in the field today campaigning against Jan Schakowsky here in Chicago, so we won’t be back in time to watch this program…but would love it if those of you watching could post your thoughts as the judges speak and the results are revealed.

We’d also like you to do a little sleuthing for us — we’re trying to solve a mystery involving Bristol’s DialIdol score from last week.

DialIdol has ranked Bristol second most weeks, in terms of the calls that come in from her during the show each Monday.  She was ranked second in terms of phone calls last night.

However, last week Bristol was ranked dead last.

Why?

This is a mystery to us because we don’t believe Bristol’s scores are tied to her actual dancing on the show, but rather to the love Americans have for Bristol herself, and the support Americans have for Bristol’s mother, Governor Palin.

Therefore, her DialIdol performance should be consistent week-to-week because she has a support and fan base independent from her dances on the show.

Did someone drop the ball on Palin sites last week and not remind people to watch the show and vote?  Because TV is no longer a part of our lives, it’s hard for us here at Buzzquarters to remember when this program is on…and we watch it via Livestream on the net instead of on a TV.  But, we set a little reminder for us on the computer to remind all of you to watch and call in for Bristol every Monday.

Without us reminding you, would you remember to do this on your own?

It would be interesting to see if last week something broke down in Bristol’s support network which caused her to have fewer DialIdol votes…or maybe it was that the weird monkey suit performance Mark Ballas created just turned a lot of people off and cost the team votes.

With a judges’ score of 28 and a second place finish with DialIdol, Bristol should be safe tonight…but we can’t take anything for granted with this show.

We want to see Bristol make it to the finals, and come in at least third place.  The show clearly has selected Jennifer Gray to win this year, with Brandy more likely than not to come in second.  It would be an impressive finish for young Bristol to come in third behind a woman most famous for a dance movie and another performer who was a singing and dancing sensation in the 90s.

Not too bad for Alaska’s most famous daughter.

Go, Team Bristol, Go!

I thought she did a much better job this week. Last week was a disaster and it was Mark’s fault for agreeing to the ape costumes. It threw her all off. She doesn’t have the flash of the entertainers in the show, but I thought this was solid. I just saw the video so I don’t know what her scores were or what the judges said.

Solid is the word. I’m glad Bristol has stayed in the show long enough to give–and enjoy giving–a solid performance.

Did anyone else catch the tie-in with her real life? Someone asked what they were trying to “portray.” I think this song is a direct jab at the whole Levi thing. Look at her face. Doesn’t she look like someone saying, “Take this, sucker!”

I suspect that a lot of people call earlier so that the busy signal is not an issue. Like on Idol, you can’t start voting until the show is over, so they get slammed with calls and you can make a better judgement.

But like you said, most of Bristol’s fans don’t care one wit how she dances and start voting the moment the show starts. I usually start with the phone calls because it’s easier to get through before she comes on.

Now, that doesn’t explain why last week she was low and this week high…but I imagine it may be harder for Dialidol to calculate accurately because of this fact (as opposed to Idol).

Okay, I’ll try again…I’m guessing it has to do with how DWTS allows voting to start as soon as the show begins. As opposed to Idol where you can’t start voting until the show is over. I personally do my calling for her first so I know I can get through easily. Then I do the online and texting.

Now that doesn’t explain why last week was low and this week was high, but I imagine it’s harder for DialIdol to be as accurate with DWTS since they do it by measuring busy signals. I don’t ever get a busy signal because I call early. On Idol, everything is busy for a while because everyone starts voting the minute the show is over.

I think something was wrong with dialidol last week. It’s a computer program, after all. So, I think it just wasn’t working correctly. If you did the math, it had Audrina & Tony getting 0% of the vote and being the bottom scorers, which clearly didn’t happen.

Even this week, A&T had 5% of the vote. So, that’s my best guest…computer/network/system malfunction.

I agree. I think it was a glitch. The guy who runs dialidol obviously cares more about american idol than the other shows so he doesnt really post when there are other glitches or what not.

I was so proud of her last night. She was really wonderful. Last week I thought she actually did embarassingly bad last week. It did not stop me from voting, but I have to say if I had not seen the Hillbuzz post, I would have forgotten about it. My head is so filled with politics lately that I am forgetting lots of things.

I think it was the creep sitting next to her on Leno. Apparently. the guy is a Palin hater, and leave it to pig Leno and his crew to have the creep on with Bristol. Anyhoo, I recall some of the blogs mentioning this when Bristol was on SNL as a promo for DWTS.

I don’t even have to think about watching the show,it’s one of my partner’s favorite shows and is DVR’d along with Amazing Race. While we both can vote we dont’ watch the show til we can see it(them) without the commercials, or at this time of year the non-stop political smear ads from both sides of the aisle here.

I am praying for Bristol tonight and I believe she will be safe.I know the judges want Kurt to go home.I like Kurt but I really want Bristol to hang on for the finals. It’s a shame since Kurt is such a nice guy and with his strong Christian faith I am pretty sure he is a conservative.I think that’s why the liberal Hollywood judges don’t want him or Bristol to win.I hope they both show them.

I don’t know anything about him but I thought it was a nice gesture that he received Bristol with a handshake at the “rejected” platform hehe

I’m so used to the Palins being discriminated against that I appreciate it when they are met with kindness.. it doesn’t matter if people are just being polite…

anyway, you can see it in this video at about 1:54. At about 2:01 you see Bristol’s hands on Mark’s face…

Serena, Carrie Ann was born and raised in Honolulu Hawaii, so I am sure she is one of those horrible liberals who hates anyone of ANY faith and wants to squash Bristol and Kurt like a bug. Got news for you, I’m a born and bred LA/Hollywood liberal and I don’t hate Kurt for his faith or Bristol for her mom’s politics. How amazing eh? There ARE a few liberals in the world who are just as good as conservatives, believe it or not. Len was born in London I believe, and must have come to his liberal disease late in life, how long as DWTS been going now? As for Bruno I have no clue even what planet he was born on! LOL! Although I think he might have been born in Italy. Another hot bed of liberal chicanery.
Personally I think Kurt is doing a GREAT job, I’m really impressed , as I am with Bristol as well, she has improved weekly, if there is just one thing I could tell her it would be loosen up a bit. She seems to be doing better at that as well. I think Jennifer will most likely end up in the finals, but would love to see Kurt & Bristol there as well. Politics plays NO part in my assessment of any of the dancers. In fact, I don’t even venture a guess as to what political leaning, if any, the dancers or judges may lean towards. I just watch for the entertainment. I realize people DO conspire, but it would seem awfully petty of the group of judges to get together and conspire to off two dancers because they didn’t share the same political or religious leaning. I would think said judges would have more to do and worry about than that. Oh, and before I get accused of being an o-bot, liberal religion hating blah-blah-blah, I may be a liberal, but I didn’t vote for the jerk in the white house, I voted for Hillary in primary and then for Bristol’s mom in general.

I still think something was “up” with Bristol’s line…

    This is how DialIdol Works
You download DialIdol software onto your computer. The software is 100% free & safe.
DialIdol uses your phone & phone modem to automatically speed dial votes for your favorite contestants.
DialIdol records the result of every call, – a vote or a busy signal, then submits this data anonymously to DialIdol.com.
DialIdol.com receives results from people all over the country and uses the busy/vote ratio to produce a prediction.

since dialidol uses a modem to dial, I’m thinking that what happened when I used google voice to vote for Bristol online may have also happened to people calling in via a modem… this is what I posted that week after using google voice…

    *******************************************
1st try the line was picked up after 45 seconds.
    4th call – after 1:15
    5th call – after 1:19
    6th call – after 1:26
8th call – the line went dead after 1:26 and I got the following message… At 10:12 PM (800) 868-3407 was not available for a phone call.
So I called back again and the call went through within 5 secs like the 2nd, 3rd and 7th call.
    *******************************************

I used google voice again last night, October 25, and all the calls went through within 3 seconds… which just made me think that “they” may have been doing some’n different last week. Then again, I could be wrong. :)

As to DialIdol, I’ve been voting every week and all the sites I visit have been voting for Bristol, too. I don’t know why their meter didn’t register it last week. Could have been a glitch on their end?

Also, people must have voted for her last week, in large numbers, or she wouldn’t have stayed in the competition. DialIdol’s predictions had to be wrong, or she wouldn’t have had the numbers to continue.

I haven’t noticed too much from Jennifer that I didn’t expect, since she is just a bit younger than me, and believe me, if I had to do what she is doing I’d be bitching my head off about the pain and problems! Brandy on the other hand is getting to be annoying to me, and my partner is saying the same. I don’t know, maybe it’s because there really doesn’t seem to be a good chemistry between her and Maksim, or perhaps she thinks she knows more about entertaining than he does, or something like that, but it just doesn’t seem to work between them. Mark on the other hand, seems to have great chemistry with Bristol, so that shows when they dance, and I don’t see it with Brandy. There is just something “off” and I can’t put my finger on it.

In any case, even if the intention was mean, it just reminds everyone of Sarah’s nickname!! He who laughs last …. !

So if I’m reading this right, they actually did sing “Barracuda”? NO way is that a coincidence. Did they at least show Bristol’s face when they sang that? I will never forget that they moaned about the use of that song during the Republican Nat’l convention.

But I deal with music licensing so it didn’t surprise me that much really. A lot of times it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with getting paid. I’m telling you, if you have any musical ability, write a catchy song and sell it to a publishing company so they can use it for jingles etc. BIG MONEY to be had.

I still remember Carrie Underwood singing “Alone” on American Idol…and Kirsten Genowyth (sp?) and Will Schuster singing it on Glee. LOve that song.

Once again this thread does not like my long posts tonight. Anyway, I was going to say I think it’s cool that Heart sang Barracuda and I think the whole thing back during the election had more to do with music publishing rights and less about politics. Artists make a ton of money on selling the rights to their songs and if someone uses it without permission or payment, they get upset…capitalism and all.

So I wasn’t too upset about it at the time. Wish they would have sung Alone…love that song.

oh it was about Sarah… sorry.

“The Republican campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, nor would they have been granted that permission,” the statement read.

It continued: “We have asked the Republican campaign publicly not to use our music. We hope our wishes will be honored.”

Yet “Barracuda” blared again at the Republican National Convention Thursday night after McCain’s acceptance speech.

So Heart’s Nancy Wilson called EW.com to vent, saying, “I think it’s completely unfair to be so misrepresented. I feel completely [expletive] over.”

She and her sister Ann then emailed this exclusive statement to EW.com: “Sarah Palin’s views and values in NO WAY represent us as American women. We ask that our song ‘Barracuda’ no longer be used to promote her image.

and btw.. my long post is missing as well :)

I don’t like it when judges in these shows say that the people in front of them shouldn’t be going home… that just tells the other contestants that the judges wishes “they” were going home.
I think it’s mean even if the person is the best and shouldn’t be going home. If they wanted to be able to decide who goes and/or stays then they shouldn’t be asking people to vote.

I thought it would be Rick as well, he’s getting on my last nerve! LOL! Kyle is prolly going to be around for another week or two, he has the package going for him. In other words he has the dance AND the performance to go with it. Sell the dance, as it were. Half acting half dancing. When a person has that ability, the dance and/or acting part of it can be lacking, but the package wraps it up. If one is missing it shows. To me Rick doesn’t have the acting part down and is kind of boring. Kent seems to have picked this up quite quickly. Surprisingly to me, Brandy doesn’t have it. Not that I am a fan, I’m just surprised she can’t “sell” a dance considering her profession.

I’m glad for Kurt, I think he is doing very well, Rick just annoys me for some reason, and again, I can’t place my finger on it. It’s not like he has a superior being attitude or anything, there is just something there. For me it’s kind of like Amazing Race, there is usually this one couple you can’t stand from the git-go and they seem to linger throughout just about the entire show, always escaping the chopping block by a hair. This year, I have no favorite or “villain” type on that show, it’s kind of like they all bore me, and I don’t give a crap who wins. I do, however, have a great time with some of the contestants who whine and moan because they have to some physical thing they think is TOO difficult or step in goat poo or the like, because I sit there thinking Sarah would just bypass them, prolly calling them wussys and go on to win the challenges with time to spare. I get a good laugh out of that.

Regarding a post above about Carrie Ann, I watched the video of the night Sarah was in the audience for Bristol’s performance, and was especially interested in how the judges would respond to her.

Carrie Ann was very enthusiastic when Sarah was introduced, both in her smile and her applause. She gave off an aura of respect and of being somewhat in awe of Sarah. All in all, the judges seemed to be quite taken with her.

From what I have read and heard, everyone who came into contact with Sarah at the show came away impressed with her.

By the way, when Bristol was announced as safe tonight, the response of Kurt’s partner (names escape me) was very interesting. She was jumping up and down and ran over to give Bristol a very enthusiastic hug.

Bristol did well on Monday night. The judge’s liked her dance so well they had her and Mark repeat it on Tuesday night as a judge’s favorite. That was her best dance of the season. She was more relaxed, looked beautiful and sweet. Happy she made it through another week. It’s all about the fan base to keep you going. Audriana didn’t have much of a fan base and you need to rally people to vote for you. Popularity is as important as dancing technique. The sports figures always do well since they mobilize their fan base, either the NBA, NFL or Olympic community.

Part of what helped her out, IMO, was the military/drum major costume top. Very flattering cut since she still carries some “baby” fat. Unlike that long white shirt with sparkles from a few weeks ago. It made her look like she had no pants on. What was even more bizarre that week was Marc ripping off his shirt to go topless, while Bristol had on said long shirt. Any other female dancer would have lost the shirt to complement her partner. And let’s not go into the ape outfit!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for Bristol too. Just think that whoever is costuming her is NOT doing her figure any favors. But tonight’s outfit was great. Hope subsequent ones are also flattering.
