History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes

Posted on March 9, 2009 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

VIA RealClearPolitics

This is the very first article we’ve seen that talks openly of Democrats facing a penality in the 2010 midterms for all of Obama’s Hope! and Change! promises in 2008 — which, increasingly, more people are stating the obvious about: namely, that he’s not going to deliver on any of that.

Because he promised so many people so much, either he’s going to meet all of those expectations (in which case we will be the first to cheer him and happily admit we were wrong about him this whole time) or Democrats are going to be booted from Congress in 2010 by a disillusioned public that feels chumped by the Hopemeister, the man Oprah sold to them as ‘The One” on their TVs all day, with Tim Russert, Chris Matthews, and Keith Olbermann deifying him at night.

Talking about history not repeating itself, but rhyming more often than not, it’s interesting the article notes that 1994 was a defeat for Democrats because of the unpopular 1993 budget, the assault weapons ban, and Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell.

In 2010, the author predicts the Trillion Dollar Spending Bill, the bank and mortgage bailouts, and the state of the economy could very well be rallying points for revolt against the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Congress.

What’s interesting is that none of these are even emotional issues, which are bound to come up as we get deeper into Obama’s term in office.  Besides the race-baiting employed by Obama supporters sporadically through the election, and the fact Obama voters were the deciding factor with Proposition-8 in California, there have not yet been any emotional issues to derail the new administration.  Mainly, the focus has been on economic troubles.

But, those bailouts, especially for people with mortgages they should have never taken to begin with, is starting to hit a raw, emotional nerve unlike anything back in 1994.  Obama’s also promised the LGBTQ community repeatedly that he’ll revisit Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell, but that seems like lunacy, considering the Pandora’s box the issue opened back in 1993.  We believe Obama won’t actually go there, but instead is merely lying to the LGBTQ community to placate them after too many gay voters realized it was Obama Democrats who passed Prop-8, not the Mormons (as Tom Hanks and other Hollywood liberals were dispatched to claim).

If Obama throws Don’t Ask/Don’t Tell back into the mix, in addition to riling gun owners up again, on top of the groundswell of hostility all of the bailouts and reckless spending are causing, perhaps Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid could both lose their seats in Congress as well as losing control of their respective chambers.

It sure feels like the economic mess alone will create a bigger storm for Democrats in 2010 than existed in 1994.

AND, that’s especially true considering the fact Bill Clinton didn’t promise everyone the world in 1992 to win election.  Clinton never told his voters he would lower the oceans and fix their broken souls.  No one ever said Clinton was the Lightbringer sent to us from another dimension, by God, as “The One” to solve all of our problems.  Expectations were deliberately held high for Obama to sell the American public a purposefully marketed bill of goods.

And if those goods are actually delivered between now and 2010,then Democrats will be sitting pretty, because Obama will prove himself to be an actual Lightbringer and Miracle Worker after all.

But, if the Lightbringer doesn’t deliver all that he promised, by 2010, then things could get very interesting.

And much, much worse than 1994 ever was.

Were in a big jam in this country. If nothing else, the government needs to get up off their butts and start buying these $1 properties so that they aren’t sold off to foreign interests. It is a serious national threat.

Here in NH Shea Porter was at a meeting with angry voters last week. A voter shouted at her . She replied”Your mother would be ashamed of you acting this way”

The voter relied”Your grandchildren should be ashamed of you.”

Good news, they may be starting to catch on. Clinton governed from the left when he started out. (nothing like this).. he budget as you stated, he raised taxes, and the Hillary care issue, was an issue. Government run health care will not work, and I do not know if the people can stop it this time. If you like how the government has handled the mortgage mess, wait until they control the healthcare.

I have to take your word on Don’t ask Don’t tell, but I truly do not believe that to have been an issue at the voting booth. It has always been the media that likes to bring that up. People cared about their taxes, and the gun issue was HUGE as it is going to be again with Holder.

One more rant, I have worked in the mortgage industry for many years. Love it, and I a currently laid off. (LOL) We wrote the loans based on government guidelines. period…It was perhaps a nobel idea to have many own homes, but the reality is that many should not, the credit requirements should never have been lowered, but they were. People in the industry saw this one coming a mile away.

One more thing, as much as I cannot stand our current commander in chief, I believe he may have had a pretty decent presidency had the republicans took control of the house and senate. We will see what happens in 2010. At this point I want the madness to stop. Our government tends to run better when there is a different party in control of the congress than the white house. : )

Has anyone noticed the troubling aspect that all the democrat congressmen and senators are following Obama lock step thru this agenda?

I understand the pull of party politics, but it is disturbing to see the lack of a spine from the legislature.

My congressman is a Dem. I have contacted him so many times, I do believe he now knows me personally. ha ha He says one thing; then he ALWAYS votes straight party line; every single time. They voted on the anti-stimulus bill without reading it. Evidently, they are not required to THINK, either.

I think that is what has all of us so damn nervous. They are not breaking with the party line. How can you campaign on the spending issue, complain about Bush spending in the house and senate, and turn around and vote for the biggest spending ever in our nations history? and then have the gaul to blame Bush continually? They are crazy people / they are in for a rude awakening.

It’s not lack of spine. They have been bought and paid for in the stinkulous bill. Before Obama took office the stinkulous was already written with a large wish list from every congressional Dem.
      But here’s some better news…
WATERBURY – A Connecticut group says it is the first in the nation to register to raise money to draft Sarah Palin for president.

Paul Streitz of Darien says the Federal Election Commission has confirmed the “2012 Draft Sarah Committee” is the first to file papers.

Streitz says all donations collected by the committee will be used for grassroots organizing to build support for the Alaska governor.

Streitz says the committee so far has collected about $3,000. He says donations will be shared with Palin’s PAC once she declares her candidacy, which she has not so far done.
The state committee’s first organizational meeting is set for Tuesday in West Haven

Here’s an article explaining that Obama is avoidng the term socialist and putting that term and everything that they are doing off on to the previous administration. Lyin’ coward.

After only 7 weeks or so of Obama rule, the organized unrest is starting to happen. Bet Barky & Co. didn’t see THAT coming this soon!

Forward into the future a year from now. Natives will really be restless when unemployment is at 20%, stores are shuttered, bankrupt defunct businesses, runaway inflation/possible hyperinflation, Middle East on fire, sky-high utilities if BO’s “Green” plans come to fruition, etc.

The revolt of 1994 will look minor in comparison! BO will be desperate to stay in command/control. So . . .this sets the stage for something that nags in the back of my mind:

What about manipulation of election results? If they could see that the trend was going to be GOP, can the new “touchscreen” voting machine totals be made to say whatever the tabulators want it to?? I’m just saying . . with identity theft & hacking becoming more prevalent. Realize that not all regions vote in this manner, but is it possible to do this?

Today on the local morning news, our district Iowa state representative gave an interesting interview.

State reps have been given a 150-page “study” about reverting the Presidential elections from the electoral college to the popular vote.

Jason ticked off many reasons why this is such a bad idea. Mainly that no candidate would ever campaign in states with less than 10 electoral votes. Several big cities with populations of a million-plus would be the political plums. And generally speaking, what political ideology party rules those cities? L-I-B-E-R-A-L D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T-S.

Couple this trial balloon with amnestying illegals who traditionally go liberal, and we.would.be.screwed.

FDR’s reign would look like a lost weekend. These concepts will cement Dems in power for a century!

Hillbuzzers, I fear for our futures. Darn good thing God Almighty is ultimately in charge. These despicable vultures will pay in spades for eternity.

Oh, my God, Neenee. Both posts are exactly right. Don’t forget they moved control of the census into the WH. For the last couple of years, every time someone would bring up these points of yours, they would be laughed at; but not now. I always believed that the plan is a total take-over. And I am NOT into conspiracies. But, everything is clicking in place. Why is there not a true leader or leaders with money that will stand up for the constitution and for what is right?

        TX Mom:
Did I read right awhile back, are you about 40? If so, you’re about my oldest daughter’s age. I’ll be 61 this year and have never subscribed to conspiracist theories. But I can tell you that I’ve been following politics REAL close the past 20 years. Also reflecting on the political agendas in our great country the past 40 years. And listening to seasoned citizen friends’ experiences of the Depression.

I have NEVER seen heinous, controversial things progressing with such speed. This is NOT a coincidence. Obama’s handlers (Soros & other world view’ers)had to be constructing this for several years. The barrage of seemingly unrelated issues tossed out every day is designed to keep citizens fearful. Fear & the Mommy/Daddy syndrome in lots of folks keep these people in power. As Hillbuzz guys say, it’s real easy to live in your mom’s basement eating canned frosting & collect a government check.

Those who visit this site are real Americans. Some of our current conservative leaders are very good, just outnumbered. I have an idea where our future leaders will come from: young retired military personnel. Can you imagine General Petraeus, a la General Eisenhower?

Anyway. . . my oldest daughter & I talked yesterday. She and her pastor husband are virtually trapped in Detroit because of the housing market. If things turn ugly, she’s worried. Other than their trust in God, what will get them thru this tumultuous time are commonsense things:
        a) Supply of cash
        b) Extensive canned food & bottled water supply
        c) Stockpile of prescriptions & over-the-counter medications
        d) Supply of extra sets of underwear for all family members (don’t laugh, it’s the little things in life!)
        e) Stockpile of toilet paper
        f) Networking with like-minded neighbors on their street for security

TX Mom, I don’t mean to scare you or others. In my life, I’ve always subscribed to “Have a plan, but then have plan B, plan C and even plan D.” Most of the time I’ve never had to go beyond plan B, but there were a few times that plan C had to be implemented.

“Prepare for the worst, and plan for the best” has been my motto, and it’s gotten me thru life quite nicely.

Neenee. Maybe I was not clear. I totally agree with you. You are not scaring me. I am just so excited to find someone who also sees what is happening and is not afraid to state it. As you know, my mom is 102; thus, I am a year older than you. I, too, was taught everything about the depression. I, too, am trying to stay prepared. I have what I call a Y2K closet(a little joke of mine). This last Christmas I had a theme. Everybody received emergency radios, flashlights, cash. ha ha ha Am I crazy? I don’t think so. The thing that is bothering me the most is the speed(as you mentioned) of everything they are throwing out at us. Besides not doing anything to help the economy, the legislation they are doing and proposing to do is so overwhelming. If you notice, they are touching almost every area of life, including our constitutional rights. You are correct. It is a plan that has been operating for a while. That is how big O was able to start running with it Day One. There are so many factions of people out there desiring to fight this; peacefully, I might add. Somehow we have to pull all those people together. Hopefully, the tea parties are a start. That’s why I am crying out for a leader or leaders to pull us together. Thanks for speaking out, Neenee

Cash will be worthless. Gold and silver coins are needed for an underground market. Dollar bills will be printed with electronic tracking so nix that. Once you get past the fear, you’ll be OK. That’s what this administration is hopeing for…us to be in fear and indecision. Economists in former communist nations can see this coming. Cap and trade and lumping all other issues with the economical issue is designed to further a collapse.
Just accept it and stop being afraid. Try and get past the fear.

At that time, they were looking at who lives there, how many live there, ages, and racial makeup if I remember correctly. Don’t recall any socio-economic questions on the census, but like I say it was 20 odd years ago.

In the last census some people or addresses, not sure how they were chosen, were randomly selected for a longer census questionnaire. The questions were more in depth demographic questions, like education, transportion, etc. If you go to http://www.census.gov you will be directed to the site that reports data from the census, big picture data such as percentage in an area that are male or female not details by household. Census records are released about 70 years after the census. Most current census that has been released is 1930. (Just to let you know what you reported is not shown.)

        That’s what I meant, Matt.

What I posted is that there is obviously a movement to deconstruct the electoral system, and change it to the popular vote.

Over the decades, this concept would occasionally surface, only to be laughed at.

Obviously, if one of my state reps has a professionally edited study and report on this, odds are that it’s come down from the federal level.

I assume you are under 40 or even younger, Matt. You will do well to listen to older folks’ accounts of what they’ve seen happen from the 1940s thru now. Lots of insidious stuff is being done incrementally.

There’s a difference between paranoia and being aware.

Oh an it’s not because the Dems are dumb. In order to make a fascist socialist state you have to bankrupt the system..but you knew that.

You’re absolutely right. I am not shaking in my boots fearful, more discouraged at how this whole BO schmear was accomplished.

As a coin collector, my husband has quietly been putting back silver coins for years. And paper silver certificates. He also has a drawer of junk gold jewelry which isn’t a big deal. Last year I ’bout had a stroke when he spent $800 for a first-run Gold Buffalo from the mint. It’s up in safety deposit (??). But he’s had offers of $1400 for it right now.

Keeping a cool head, but being prepared is key. Your posts are very good. Again, I laud jackdaddy, TX Mom, FL Mom, PVG, skating on glue, sharon, and so many others who truly have it together. We should see if Hillbuzz will let us exchange actual emails if we request.

Heard a few days ago that economic depressions occur about every 60 years. Coincidentally, those who were alive for one depression usually aren’t around for a second. New crop of citizens seem destined to make the same economic mistakes.

Why did the Great Depression last as long as it did? Why did the Depression of 1921, though initially more severe, last only about a year? In the case of 1921, the government cut both spending and taxes, and allowed wages to fall as well.

“We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before, and it does not work… I say after eight years of this administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started — and an enormous debt to boot.” – Henry Morgenthau (FDR’s Treasury Secretary)

Methinks the above quote will be just as accurate this time around.

Neenee. I was told that that the “Great Depression” was only called “Great” by us because ours lasted years longer than it did for the rest of the world. The depression was world wide; however, our policies lengthened our depression.

Oopsie, he doesn’t swallow the Global Warming fantasy. So that’s another strike against this intelligent-sounding statesman. Bet the upcoming EU conference will see an icy snub for Klaus from BO.

Do ya think the Czechs would do an even trade for BO??
