HillBuzz Overnight Open Thread: August 26th, 2011

Posted on August 26, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Featured Content, Hillbuzz, Open Threads

What’s the most important thing you learned today?

What’s the most interesting thing that happened today, August 26th, 2011?

What are you looking forward to learning more this weekend?

For me, I was happiest today when Justin came home and surprised me with the Martha Stewart Halloween magazine, which of course he makes fun of me for loving (but somehow gets ahold of and then disappears with for hours, marveling at all the ingenious crafting inside). I happen to love Martha Stewart, as a character. She was a Hillary supporter during the 2008 primaries and then switched over to Obama, which I don’t get, but I love how passive-aggressive she is (like in the clip above). That movie Martha complains about, Martha Incorporated starring Cybil Shepherd is the most unintentionally funny thing you will ever watch.  There used to be a video on YouTube of all the best parts, set to “We’re Not Gonna Take It Anymore”, but it looks like some entertainment lawyer somewhere took it down.  I am so tempted to learn how to make YouTube videos just so I can recreate it.

I was also quite happy today when my friend Delphine in New York confirmed she has three weeks’ food (at least) in her pantry, that she’s made her husband get a few cases of bottled water, and that she’s well stocked-up on batteries, flashlights, and other supplies.  I have been worried about her, and about good friends I have up and down the Eastern Seaboard with Hurricane Irene approaching. I really need to put together a plan for Justin and me in case anything bad ever goes down here in Chicago.  We lost power a few times this summer because of thunderstorms, but there’s no chance of a hurricane hitting us.  Earthquakes aren’t a danger either, but sometimes I do worry about what happens when Obama loses the presidency next year.  Chicago, New York, Detroit, Atlanta, LA, Cleveland…they’ll all probably be consumed with riots stoked by the Race Industry.  Stocking up on canned goods won’t exactly prepare for that, so hopefully we’ll be in another state far away at a Palin campaign results watch party and nowhere near Chicago.

I really appreciate everyone who prayed for me last week when I was trying to make up my mind about whether or not to call Sidetrack out on attacking Trig Palin and Michele Bachmann and whether I wanted to take on the Ben Cohen Foundation for its hypocrisy.  As expected, Daily Kos and Democratic Underground are now attacking me again, for calling Sidetrack out and demanding an explanation for Ben Cohen as to what, exactly, his promise to battle “bullying wherever, and to whomever, it occurs” means if it doesn’t apply to standing up for a kid with Downs or women who are attacked for their appearance, religion, or other beliefs.

Clearly the gay community believes it can maliciously bully anyone it wants, whenever it wants, wherever it wants, because being gay gives them the right to simultaneously claim to be perpetual victims as well as determined victimizers. Come to think of it, it’s kind of like the Congressional Black Caucus existing as an organization whose membership is based on skin color, but who would condemn any other organization that excludes people based on their skin color. Hypocrisy is so common on the Left, few ever notice it, and even fewer dare to call them out on it.

For those of you who aren’t veterans of political campaigning, you’re going to see nastiness on an unprecedented level as the 2012 campaign gears up. Gays will be used by the Left to attack Governor Palin and her supporters as homophobes.  Blacks will be used to call all Republicans RAAACISTS.  Jewish groups will be brought forward to falsely accuse conservatives of being antisemitic.  Pick a racial, cultural, or other minority, insert the worst thing they can call someone, and expect to see them doing that in large numbers as the Left marshals all troops in a desperate bid to bully voters into retaining the Obamas in the White House.

Justin is a big SciFi and fantasy fan, who LOVES the Lord of the Rings movies.  If you thought the assembled forces of Mordor were horrific and imposing, just wait until you behold what the Left puts onto the field in 2012.

It’s all a big effort to intimidate you, of course, to keep you from speaking out, to make you sit back and take whatever they are dishing and swear you like it.

But, if you are reading this you are the Resistance, and whether you fully realize it or not, you are the key to defeating the Left and the Cocktail Party GOP establishment alike next year.  One day at a time.

    Remember Buffy?
"One of the co-conspirators in a White House-approved plot to use federal resources to produce partisan propaganda to advance President Obama’s policy agenda has been chosen to lead an Obama 2012 get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort.

The Obama operative chosen to head the GOTV effort, Buffy Wicks, was deputy director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. In that capacity she participated in a now-infamous 2009 conference call in which Obama officials urged artists to create art that would help advance Obamacare and the rest of the president’s policy objectives.

Wicks will head a GOTV effort named after the branch of ACORN that employed Obama in 1992. Perhaps to honor Obama’s radical roots, the “campaign-within-a-campaign” will be named “Project Vote,” according to Politico’s Mike Allen" http://biggovernment.com/mvadum/2011/08/26/breaki…

I have a FB friend who is a musician. The Gibson Guitar case isn't all. Musicians need to know what every piece on their instrument is, apply for import and export licenses, and if they mis-state something, are subject to a fine. http://www.acousticmusic.org/CITES-and-ESA-sp-78….

    KD-dang!
"Clearly the gay community believes it can maliciously bully…"
Hmmm… the way you used "the gay community" shows a level of understanding more nuanced and in-tune than some may have. Let's examine this.

Switch LSM for your phrase "the gay community" and let's talk. Clearly, there are some in media, like you, Sarah Palin, Rush, et cetera, that do not go with the LSM, but yet, you and they are influential members of the media. It is when we use clever terms like LSM, the 3-letter news channels, and the like, that folks can quickly understand that we are talking about the libtards of media, and not the open-minded and well-adjusted folks like you and the rest.

So, we need a cool handle for "the gay community" that you speak of, that will instantly tell your readers, and as it propagates out into the general populace, that you are talking about the loudest bigasses of the gay community, and not all gays in general or specific.

When we and others use LSM, we all know who we are meaning, and anyone on Fox or the WSJ, or NewsBusters (especially the foxy Jodie Miller) is not indicted. So, when we use your new term for these malformed souls of the gay community, people will know to whom we are referring.

That bastard, Richard Nixon, had a few things right; one was "the moral majority." The loud and obnoxious (D) news-grabbers of the early 1970s did not represent the majority opinion of the American People. They did get to scream loudly into LSM news microphones. It looked like they were in the majority, but they really weren't. The new-media revealed that truth.

So too, you, can point out that the loud and obnoxious voices in "the gay community" are not actually the whole story. Just as blacks, hispanics, men, and women can hold widely divergent opinions on politics, religion, and the economy, so too can gays!

So, let's start the revolution here, at HillBuzz.org, that the loud and obnoxious libtard members of the gay community will be known by a name that you or someone here at HB invents, and the cool, nice, intellectual, and sophisticated gays that are kind and considerate of other people, especially conservatives, people with Judeo-Christian beliefs, and otherwise just good people, will be know simply as gays, since the home-base term should belong to the nice guys. Did I mention that they are naturally the snappier dressers, too?

Sure, the LSM will ignore it, but we can get our fellow conservatives to adopt it. It's like the libtard LSM only know "pro-choice and anti-choice" while conservatives know "pro-life and abortionists" are valid words, too.

So, what is a good word for the idjits in "the gay community" of which you speak?

What did I find out today? Had a meeting today with a group of liberal (natch) academics. Eventually, talk turned to politics. Wow! They actually believe it will be (and I quote) "the next civil war – north v. south" should Perry get elected. They also were blaming the republican House for the lack of collegiality in the SENATE — and were chortling over the demise of the tea party. "Given early and give often" whenever candidates call was their final advice to each other. You betcha — but to republicans!

    Safety tips for Hurrican Irene:

"…massive flooding from storm surges is now the main threat. Gusts of wind should top out at “only” 60-70 mph by the time Irene hits here, but because the storm’s moving slowly, that gives it extra time to blow water from the ocean into the streets and subways.

"While somewhat less of a threat now, the wind may still pose unique dangers to skyscrapers. I haven’t heard anyone speculate yet that office towers might topple over, but someone tweeted to me earlier that once you get above the 25th floor or so, the storm is one category higher than it is on the ground. Avoid tall buildings at all costs, and in the name of all that’s holy, don’t stand underneath them. Windows will shatter and glass will fall."

I lost a wonderful feline friend this morning. Nerosan was a beautiful black and white Japanese Bobtail who shared my life and home since he ‘chose’ me at a rescue event over 10 years ago. He loved everyone, even dogs! We had many great years with him, but he developed cancer this past spring. We finally had to make the painful decision to help him find peace and freedom from pain. May I humbly request those who are so inclined to light a candle or pray for my little old man? He was an awesome cat and our family will miss his headbutting affection forever.

So sorry for your loss, Violet

      Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Urgent: The feds are trying to sabotage the US economy by:

    (1) Persecuting the few remaining manufacturers in the US and

    (2) Punishing any business that does not donate to Dems:

"What a coincidence! CEO of Gibson Guitar a Republican Donor. And their Democratic-donating competitor, Martin, uses the same wood but wasn’t raided."

The main threat to the US is not socialism. It's corporatism.

Kevin, "Numbah-ONE" in preparedness, for ANY disaster – bottled water – spring water for cooking/coffee/tea, etc., MINIMUM of 1 gallon per day per person, so-called "drinking water" {EWWWWW!} for washing/flushing toilets/etc., 1.5 to 2 gallons per day. Also, for toilet purposes, fill the bathtub{s} with water.

    Have a grill, {if gas, keep tanks filled, have extras}, charcoal, lighter fluid, matches. Maybe invest in a Sous-Vide setup: http://www.aquachef.com/land01.php?sid=51731&… & prepackage some culinary delights to get you through the rough patches. {Since the car is my anniversary present (our anniversary is 27 November, although to the FodGuy, it's always "the day after Thanksgiving" ;-) , I'm asking for this setup as a combination birthday {feast of the Immaculate Conception} & Christmas present ……………………………… ;-) }

A generator is NEVER wasted money; you might be able to find one at a comparatively reasonable price NOW, rather than when whatever "disaster" strikes. {We got ours for ~ $600.00 right after hurricane Ike.} It'll keep your refrigerator/computer/air conditioning/electric stove/TV going, but you'd also be well-advised to have whatever powers it {gas/propane/natural gas, etc.} on hand & stored – plan on keeping it running for at least a week.

    That's my .02 worth, from hurricane experiences …………………………….. ;-)

As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the East Coast, federal disaster officials have warned that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Residents are bracing themselves for the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact. FEMA has advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance. Sports…the weather. Bit of an update to my ground report – the neighbor who doesn't like black people, is HOPING for race riots/race war; he seems to believe that Hispanics will join whites against blacks.

He completely LOST any vestige of my willingness to be more than pseudo-cordial the other night, when he came over {to MY yard}, sat down & began snarking as his son does, on the amount of time I'm taking with my project. When the FodGuy arrived home, W. stayed & continued the conversation; when I attempted to offer commentary, I received that dismissive LOOK, to the effect that "the men were talking, as a mere woman, I should shut up" – told the FodGuy after W. left that he can kiss my EGA {tattoo on my left hip} before I'll engage in conversation with him again. FodGuy had missed the LOOK, so when I told him, FodGuy emphasized that I NEVER have to shut up, most especially in/around MY HOME – W. HADN'T been invited, so he can just take his insults elsewhere.

I'm STILL mad enough to smoke a pickle, though!
