You might not have realized it (yet), but Mannequin is one of the greatest movies ever made — if for no other reason than it’s a classic example of how fun the 80s “try on clothes to dance music and race around doing crazy things” montages could be. Whenever I need a little pep, I watch this clip on YouTube of Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall in their youth being all kinds of zany — at that part in the movie where the tide turns and things start looking up for our protagonists.
The weather’s breaking here in Chicago, with the sun shining brightly this Sunday morning (and lingering longer into the evenings). Winter will no doubt rear its head a time or two more in 2012, but the worst of its cold is over for another year. I can feel spring coming…we have indeed endured…the dark and cold did not win.
I’ve been on an 80s nostalgia kick the last few weeks, since the passing of Whitney Houston made me think back to how she was before she allowed drugs and booze (and bad associations) to ruin her life and talent. I went to two Whitney concerts in the late-80s and mid-90s — back when the “Whitney” brand was something special and saying you were going to a “Whitney Houston concert” made you the envy of all your friends (but without making your parents worried you’d be in bad company once you got to the Coliseum).
I watched Whitney’s “home going” last week and am still struck by what Bishop T.D. Jakes of Dallas said about Death never winning. no matter how looming or imposing it ever was. I lump the forces of Darkness, Depression, and Despair in there too, since they’re cut from the same shroud and bedevil us more often than Death itself. This negative energy is louder and seemingly stronger than the side of light and all things positive and good — but Jakes kept reiterating that Death does not win. “Death is certain”, he said, “but love is stronger than death”.
Remember this now that we’re in Lent, because Jakes also spoke of Jesus’s death, saying that “Death threw a party…a big WEEKEND PARTY…and partied all Friday and Saturday and into Sunday morning thinking that Death had won”. But then “early Sunday morning, love rolled up his sleeves and said, ‘Hold up, now. You better wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute,’ snatched death and took the sting out of death and the victory out the grave”.
It’s been seven days now, and I can’t get these words out of my head — they are now indelibly a part of me, and who I am now, because of what I heard Bishop Jakes say at Whitney’s homegoing. I don’t know how I missed a lesson like this the first 34 years of my life, but I never came across someone who distilled it all so perfectly like this before. That image of Jesus rolling up his sleeves and saying, essentially, “Oh, Hell to the no” is marvelous — and just how I picture Jesus in my mind and in my heart…the knocking the tables over in the Temple Jesus while standing up to the bullies and assorted bad guys he encountered. And just when Death and all the powers of Darkness and Despair thought they’d won and were reveling in their big weekend party, the light broke through the clouds and Love roared back at the turn of the tide.
I’ve been so touched and empowered by this imagery that I sent Bishop Jakes a thank-you letter this week — for a sermon that I just can’t forget.
I mention all of this because I really hope you can find a little of this positivity in your own lives — and also for the future of our country. Everyone I know is struggling, and the forces of Darkness and Despair and Death seem so large and in charge right now. America has never been so bedeviled and all of her enemies at home and abroad have been having a giant cake-party and yucking it up, thinking they’ve all won. But I just know that the tide is about to turn…and that YOU are going to be part of that turning. The bad guys will not win, no matter how many financial and logistical advantages they think they have…or how much they believe the elite, agenda-driven media will carry them to victory. They can eat all the cake they want at their little party…but a great many people are rolling up their sleeves and there will be quite a few surprises to come.
I’m really looking forward to this new week ahead of us — and using every day to its fullest to do what I can to make sure the good guys have that victory in the end.
How about you?
What do you think YOU can do this coming week to trip up the Tolerant Left or thwart the designs of the Cocktail Party establishment so that the forces of good and the Tea Party spirit triumphs in November?

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton advised an audience of Muslims "not pay attention" to the comments made by candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination saying that the rhetoric of the campaign doesn't reflect U.S. policy.
Clinton said the remarks made during campaign events "certainly don't reflect the United States, don't reflect our foreign policy, don't reflect who we are as a people."

ACT OF VALOR — go see! Excellent — makes Black Hawk Down look like a Disney film!
Just got out of movie and OMG — so glad they didn't use 'hollywood hippocrites' for actors
MSM will give it bad reviews, because they don't want you to see this movie — you will leave with a respect for all things military, and be reminded, that 9-11 was not an accident, that there are people who will destroy our republic (not if, when)
And now I know why Obummer wants to cut our defense budget — so the USA won't have the best of the best in men, or hardware, or support. What they do to keep us safe cost $$ —

Thank you for your inspiring words, Kevin. You are such a shining light in this world! You're so right about Bishop Jakes' words. Dylan Thomas also said it: "Rage, rage against the dying of the light." This is what all Americans must do this election year to save this great nation.
Well, I will do my part this week. I am voting for Rick in Tuesdays primary in Michigan to hopefully assist in the preventative action of the cucumber and mayonnaise sandwich being served up on our plate.
I do prefer Gingrich, but will take one for the team as Rick may be able to pull this one off. I just did not plan accordingly, I am having surgery tomorrow (nothing major) and my dear husband thought he would get out of voting. God love him, I said " oh no, we will be there to vote, you will just hold on to my arm and help me get in the car".
Voting for Newt on Tuesday in AZ. Will continue commenting on blogs, and writing as much as possible.
This post is a perfect example of why I love Hillbuzz. I'm relatively new here and was struck right away with the shining optimism and faith in humanity I find here. So many political blogs are so full of Eeyoreism and gloom that it makes you want to give up the fight, and there's far too much at stake for that. Thanks, Kevin.
Why would anyone vote for one candidate in the primary when they prefer another? That's how the person you actually prefer is beaten! Vote for the one you like in the primary; then we all get behind whoever the nominee turns out to be.
Obama plays the race card one more time, this time to pressure black churches into supporting him. The man has no shame.

I think this email I received yesterday indicates that O is getting more and more desperate. This is from BarackObama.com:
“As you may have noticed, we’ve asked you for a donation a few times now.
But according to our records, you haven’t yet made an online donation to this campaign at this email address. (If our records are wrong, I apologize and thank you!)
I’m not writing to ask you for money again. I’m actually writing to ask your opinion about why you haven’t given, and what you think would inspire you or other Obama supporters like you to decide to take the leap and donate.
We have two quick questions for you. Can you take a minute to answer them?
There’s a good reason we’re asking for your feedback: The kind of organization we all decided to be a part of only works if people like you pitch in to build it.
It’s also the reason no other candidate has been able to match our level of grassroots support. This isn’t the easiest way to run a campaign — but we know it’s the right way.
That’s why we want to know what you’re thinking.
Please take a minute to answer these two questions today:

Thanks so much,
Rufus Gifford
National Finance Director
Obama for America
P.S. — Of course, if you’d like to become one of our million-plus grassroots donors today, by all means, please make a donation of $3 or whatever you can afford.”
Did you answer the questions??? I would LOVE to see the Hillbuzzers take advantage of this situation!
Not yet. Just got done reading “How Do You Kill 11 Million People” and wanted to use some of the points therein to formulate my answers. Also thought of answering in the opposite manner of my values and complain that BO was not progressive enough.
You should all be aware of what the left is saying and thinks is OK to say about all of us:

And the jackals in the comments section are lapping it up.
Notice there is nothing of substance, no actual facts or links, just a non-stop stream of vile stupidity. THAT is what passes for legitimate discourse among those cretins. You have been warned.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEA PARTY. Here is your IRS AUDIT package. Hugs and Kisses, Barak.
(Hopeful PS. — Tea Party groups have conference call planned to respond).
