HillBuzz Halloween Open Thread

Posted on October 31, 2011 by Kevin DuJan // Hillbuzz

What’s the most fun thing happening for Halloween where you live?

What costumes do you expect to see out in force?

************************************************************

Tomorrow we’re launching the HillBuzz & Mrs. Fox Radio Show…follow the show on Facebook for the latest episodes.

We aim to be a one hour daily show very soon…but will take a while to get things going and to fall into a groove.  It would be great to know what you’d like to hear covered and for you to give us feedback on how we’re doing as we start the show.  It’s going to be a lot of hard work for us, but we think you’ll enjoy it and the effort will be worth it.

I'm concerned. Most of the posts lately have been negative posts about the GOP candidates and that is a concern.

Obuma is the person we want out control, so what aren't the negative posts about him?

"ABO" is my battle cry. I'm concerned with what I see on this site!

It’s primary season, and the correct meme right now is “ABMR”

      Anyone but Mittens Romneycare.

I’m also concerned… about how I just got two lessons on spotting a troll and how quickly I seem to have found one.

eh. it's primary season, yes, and we need to weed out anyone undesirable and try to get ourselves rallied behind one guy in the end. i don't mind people pointing out the bad stuff of the candidates right now- we already know obama sucks- what more can we add to it? so we should be focusing on the repub field right now to get the best person, and then focus to move forward helping that nominee against the occupy-the-white-houser ??? we (not the insiders who knighted sir romneycare) are still too divided between cain, paul, bachmann and well, a couple are holding out for newt or perry.

ABR in the primary; ABO in the general. I believe that could be considered the consensus at HB at this point.

    Screw U.
Government inflated the college loan bubble, but Obama isn’t fixing it

It’s officially a crisis. Student loan debt has hit the $1 trillion mark, exceeding Americans’ total credit card indebtedness. Unemployed graduates with huge loan balances are camping out in “Occupy” camps — the Hoovervilles of our age — around the nation. And President Obama, perhaps afraid those camps will be dubbed “Obamavilles,” as indeed they have already been by some, has unveiled a new proposal that promises to help graduates who are drowning in debt.
Unfortunately, “promises” is the correct word. Though unveiled with much fanfare, the Obama proposal doesn’t really do much. First, as the Chronicle of Higher Education pointed out in an article characterizing it as mostly political, “The benefit is available only to current students. Those jobless college graduates who are protesting on Wall Street and at similar events elsewhere won’t qualify.”

Today, for the first time, I heard a black American complain about Obama. She was complaining about all the letters she gets for donations and said, “He can help himself. He’s not helping me!” I am shocked.

i had a minor epiphany today. maybe you guys know already but i missed it- is random house in it for obama? or romney even? i was thinking about how sarah isn't running and maybe it's because of the lawsuit over that jackwagon mcginnis's book, and how random house went ahead and published that piece of crap despite no credible evidence. does anyone know if maybe this was the plan to knock her out of the running after all? i know there was the theory brought up about the lawsuit, but has anyone dug in deeper? i am not an investigator- well, i could do it on a team, but i have to have obvious leads to find the details. but i'm not a lead finder really. thanks for any insight.

Amazing, isn't it, that now "vague gestures that were not overtly sexual" can be the basis of sexual harassment allegations. I would love for some honest media outlet to look into these women's lives and see if they have pulled the same kind of thing elsewhere – and what the payoffs were. Sounds to me like they have perfected extortion to the nth degree.

Ah, Halloween, my favorite night of the year for teaching all of the little kiddies about redistribution of wealth. No, I really don't take candy from the little ones, but I do engage in conversation with the parents, it's a great ice breaker.

Kevin, good luck with the show! I'd like to see you give a little time to educating the masses on basic civics / government, its sad to see so many have no clue that teachers and first responders should be funded at the state and local level via property / sales taxes and not funded by Federal tax dollars.

It might be fun to pull out a basic high school civics book ant pick a topic to teach your listeners and then provide examples of where our politicans fail to follow basic civics / government, i.e something along the lines "are you smarter than a 5th grader?" but this time "how elected officials fail high school civics?"

Attention KEVIN: With much respect, I feel somebody (unfortunately I guess me) should clarify that saying Gingrich served his wife divorce papers while she was dying with cancer is a liberal media lie. I noticed you said that in the radio interview, which I otherwise thoroughly enjoyed.

Gingrich's daughter wrote a piece. I'm sure it's available via a search. In it, she said she loved both her parents, and that her father took her to the hospital that day to visit her mother. Her mother was the one who asked for a divorce, because Newt's life was consumed with politics and she couldn't take the political life. So he brought her the papers she had requested.

Furthermore, she didn't have cancer, the tumor proved benign, and she's alive today.

If there's any doubt, I'm not a troll for Gingrich, and I've posted here on and off for a while now. I just hate to see him continue to get the rap for something he shouldn't. I'm pulling fully for Cain. Gingrich is my strong second choice. He being associated with old D.C. is unfortunate, as he's always been an idea man, not part of the stodgy status quo. As for right now, my focus is on more power to Cain to overcome these nasty, baseless attacks on him. I want him for president.

      Richard,

I’m pretty sure I said that Gingrich divorced his wife while she had cancer. I don’t think I said she was dying. But she had cancer when he divorced her. Those are the two things that I’ve always had a problem about with Gingrich…that he divorced his wife while she had cancer and that he sat on that couch with Pelosi promoting the “Global Warming Religion”.

It is good to know the wife didn’t mind being divorced while she had cancer though. She is a real trooper for sure if that is true.

I think it’s sad that Gingrich has now had three wives. Whenever people talk about committed gay couples being the end of family values, I always wonder why more talk isn’t directed at men who marry woman after woman after woman and keep divorcing them. Sad.

Here is Jackie Gingrich Cushman’s account of what happened, from a recent article she wrote titled Setting the Record Straight. She’s Newt’s daughter.

For years, I have thought about trying to correct the untrue accounts of this hospital visit. After all, I was at the hospital with them, and saw and heard what happened. But I have always hesitated, as it was a private family matter and my mother is a very private person. In addition, for the four people involved, it was one of a million interactions and was not considered a defining event by any of us. [...]

It is this visit that has turned into the infamous hospital visit about which many untruths have been told. I won’t repeat them. You can look them up online if you are interested in untruths. But here’s what happened:

My mother and father were already in the process of getting a divorce, which she requested.

Dad took my sister and me to the hospital to see our mother.

She had undergone surgery the day before to remove a tumor.

        The tumor was benign.

As with many divorces, it was hard and painful for all involved, but life continued.

As have many families, we have healed; we have moved on.

We are not a perfect family, but we are knit together through common bonds, commitment and love.

My mother and father are alive and well, and my sister and I are blessed to have a close relationship with them both.

My sister and I feel that it is time to move on, close the book on this event and focus on building a great future. We will not answer additional questions or make additional comments regarding this meaningless incident, which occurred more than three decades ago.

As I said, my mother is a private person. She will not give media interviews. She deserves respect and should be allowed to live in peace.

        So there you go.

If that's all there was to it, then why did Gingrich resign? He resigned because he got caught with a girlfriend while his wife was sick. Whether or not she had cancer, she was in the hospital and he did divorce her. If she wanted the divorce, that would seem reasonable considering he was CHEATING on her. I think we can do a lot better than Newt Gingrich.
