Gray Matters launches
We’re delighted to announce the beginning of what we hope will be a twice-weekly or so feature here on HillBuzz: Gray Matters, a column by essayist Sebastian Gray. We’re setting up a special page for him here on HillBuzz, where Sebastian will write on politics, current events, social issues, and life in general here in Boystown, Chicago. We hope eventually Sebastian’s column will be syndicated beyond HillBuzz itself, so a moderate, Hillary Democrat, pro-woman, pro-American, bipartisan take on the LGBTQ community can bring a centrist’s viewpoint to various debates, while continuing to show conservatives and Republicans of all stripes that not all Democrats are bad, and that the negative stereotypes of the LGBTQ community held so firmly by many on the far right are outdated and ridiculous. Sebastian will give you the scoop on what people are saying and doing here in Boystown, with adventures and insights like only he can share.
If you have anything you’d like him to tackle in upcoming columns, feel free to note those ideas in comments on this thread or the Gray Matters page, or email Sebastian directly at: SebastianGrayMatters@gmail.com
As he starts this new column in earnest, we’re sure he’d love to hear from you!
NOTE: Many, many thanks to our good friend Teresa for the Gray Matters logo — and for other design-related surprises coming to HillBuzz in the days ahead!

Long time reader & fan of your site & hillary & sarah fan! i would love to see some input / debate re the striking similarities I found to how women were treated in 2008 during election to this observation by a commenter on americablog:
“When the president chooses to belittle LGBT equality in the ways he has done since taking office while doing nothing positive, it gives everyone else license to do the same. There is no excuse for this behavior.”
Comment from americablog commenter (the 1st time i’ve read that blog since last yr’s election tensions & the first comment i keyed in on & now i won’t go back – its still mostly apologists)
IT GIVES EVERYONE ELSE LICENSE TO DO THE SAME…
WOW – WHY YES – yes, it does – that’s what so many of us tried to raise awareness about last yr & were bashed to one end of the internet to the other for saying it(and via phone calls & in person obot conversations)
In reading the comment, it struck me that i couldn’t emphasize w/ the one individual given the site & its anti-women/hillary bashing last yr, & for all the letters/emails I wrote to howard dean & other dems re the misogyny that were ignored. Tho’ i care deeply about glbt causes on behalf of my glbt friends it is hard to empathize w/ someone who may have been directing hate @ me last yr…but that doesn’t change the fact it is WRONG for the exec. branch of gov’t to target & mock ANY group of its citizens
the question / concern i have is – this is a pattern of behavior that will apparently be continuing for 3+ years SO which group among us is next to be so horribly mocked? what Can we do to stand up for all of us americans when the next group is targeted – - and how will we as a community/country help the next targeted group even if we don’t like some of its individuals personally – or better yet, how to keep it from playing out in 2012 if hillary (or sarah) runs again?

I certainly never expected ALL of Obama’s promises to be kept in the first 4 months of his presidency. But, I did expect SOMETHING to be visible by now. And, to date (other than the Pride proclamation) we have gotten nothing positive from Obama.
But, we have gotten several negatives.
1. In order to re-emphasize his commitment to LGBT equality, Obama had the White House web iste language on LGBT equality watered down.
2. Once Obama determined that the UN Resolution on gay issues was totally unenforceable, he signed on to it.
3. To acknowledge the marriage equality victory in Iowa, Obama made it the butt of a joke at the Annual Correspondants dinner
4. To acknowledge the pain of our loss in CA, Obama made the protestors outside his CA fundraiser the butt of another joke.
When Obama inadvertantly made a joking comment about Special Olympics he was for to apologize for damage control. But, when he INTENTIONALLY jokes about LGBT equality, there is no apology.
When the president chooses to belittle LGBT equality in the ways he has done since taking office while doing nothing positive, it gives everyone else license to do the same. There is no excuse for this behavior.
By now, Obama should have signed an executive stop loss order ending DADT and used his “bully pulpit” to tell congress to get going on repealing DADT. There is no reason for not doing this. Repeal of DADT has 70% approval. There is no political risk in it at all. It is certainly every bit as popular as the order he signed for embryonic stem cell research.
I am so excited about this.I love to read Sebastian,he is a great writer with incredible insight and amusing and thought provoking takes on things most people would never even think about.
A true maverick who marches to the beat of a different drummer yet not a complex but very down to earth man.A man who is so secure in his own true self that he has opened up his heart and soul to all of us.Let me tell you it takes a mighty strong man to do what he did.I admire him so much for that.
Even though I have never met him and only know him through his writing I can honestly say that he is and will always remain a very special person in my heart.I.Love. This.Man.
GO SEBASTIAN !!!
Teresa, great job on the logo. You are amazing!

If you could get a couple people to write for you hillbuzz, it might free up some of your time.
