Mike Rogers from the movie Outrage and Mark Kirk

Posted on May 30, 2010 by HillBuzz // Hillbuzz

Read this.

After Memorial Day, Mike Rogers from the movie Outrage (a film about closeted gay Republicans like Charlie Crist and Larry Craig) has promised to out Mark Kirk, using Kirk’s betrayal of DADT to expose his hypocrisy.

This is what we told you months and months ago would happen…and this is what we kept warning Republicans the media would do to save Alexi Giannoulias once Giannoulias started to tank as a Senate candidate because of Broadway Bank.

If Rogers goes ahead and does this, and Kirk is outed, the way we said this would go down, then certain people at Illinois Review and the GOP in Illinois have an awful lot of explaining to do — since they attacked us with full force, on a personal level, after we warned Republicans this would happen to Kirk.

We WARNED them of this because we did not want to see Giannoulias win that Senate seat.  We tried to HELP the GOP, and instead Fran Eaton at Illinois Review decided to publish one of our names in a piece she wrote. Prior to Eaton’s article, we were all 100% anonymous on this site, but Eaton did that to punish us for talking about the open-secret of Kirk (we know Eaton from political events in Chicago, as she’s known to never miss anything that has a buffet or so much as a passed cheese tray attached to it…she’d attend the opening of an envelop if there was at the very least a Snickers promised).  All of the attacks that have come from the Left in 2010, and all of the damage that has been done on a personal level to one of us, was because of Fran Eaton at Illinois Review…ostensibly working on behalf of Mark Kirk, to hit us back for speaking the truth about him.

So, if Rogers does what he says he’s going to do…and Kirk’s outed the way we warned you he would be…then we’d like to see Illinois Review and Fran Eaton herself answer questions about why they did what they did, to people who only tried to do all that they could to stop the GOP from running a fatally flawed candidate who was destined to lose a winnable seat.

We saw all of this coming last year, and told you all as much.

It’s going down just as we told you it would, Fran.

Now we have Gianoullis the criminal who made millions in his corrupt bank to look forward to. FUCK ME for living in Illinois.

Nobody is perfect, get it? – wish they could realize that & stay the hell out of bedrooms & wombs – they would be in much better shape to win elections…………………….

Your catch phrase seems to be that Republicans ~and I assume everyone else~ should “stay out of bedrooms and wombs.” While I’m very big on individual liberty ~and the responsibility that goes along with it~, abortion is not about the privacy of a woman’s womb, it’s about the life of a child. My freedom ends when it encroaches on someone else’s freedom. Are we serious about protecting life, even when it’s inconvenient, or are we more concerned with our “right” to do what we want? If we want to be consistent with our outrage about the rationing of care that ObamaCare will bring for those at the end of life, we should be just as outraged with the taking of a life before it is even born. Without Life, there is no Liberty or Pursuit of Happiness.

Yep, agreed. I don’t particularly care what women do with their wombs as long as they’re not having the living, growing human beings inside of them killed, and I’d say the same goes for pretty much every pro-lifer I’ve met.

There are already a few sites that have listed both Mark Kirk and Aaron Schock as gay.

It is far better to admit the fact of being gay than pretending otherwise.

I see it here in Canberra. The head of the joke called the Canberra govt is Jon Stanhope. He is married. However he acts like a gay…you have taught me to ignore the fact of marriage and that it can be a cover-up….

    Ok. rsj Question time.

obviously there are many closeted gay people in politics. (some closets have clear glass doors, others just a shred of cloth hanging from a thumbtack on each side of the doorframe, and others have paneled mahogany and teak double doors with french provincial detailing and locks…but i wander, sorry)

I understand that historically it needed to be done, since being out would have been the rotting-lips of mumra kiss to a political career.

Now though, now in this day and age, isnt it more of a liability to be hiding in a closet and lying than to be out?

How do you reach out to the younger generation of gay men and women and encourage a life of out in politics?

I realize that it will still be a death knell at times, but the more who campaign openly and out, the more casual people will get with it. then people can move past the shock and get into the meat of the issues and where they stand, rather than who they love.

So what are your thoughts and ideas on helping hte yhounger folk work through these old stale issues and reactions? HOw to mentor and encourage and guide?

Congrats on being right, I wish I had been here when it was going down so I could fully enjoy the sensation of Yessssssssss.

This proves yet again, how inept, clueless, and utterly ineffective the “official”/non-Palin wing of the Republican Party is. The path to electoral success is to do the EXACT opposite of these establishment RINOs. And THESE are the same people who call Palin stupid?

This probably comes from the same braintrust that pushed Crist, and Specter-the NRSC.

First, Congrats, Boyz, on an astute call.

Second, now what? If Mark Kirk were humble enough to listen, what would you advise? If this campaign is recoverable, seems like we need to find a way to keep the sh*t-storm to a minimum. What a choice for Illinois – the crook or the liar. Still, the liar would bring an “R” with him to Washington. Any third party spoilers here or do we find a way to support Kirk regardless of his “indiscretions”?

Well, maybe if it happens to Kirk with the results for his campaign that you anticipate, and given what a weak Senator he would be, the experience will shock Schock sufficiently to lead him to come out, which would really clear the way for this much more promising political figure and also begin to remove one of the Democrats’ advantages with regard to gay voters.

The aspect of the GOP apparently feeling compelled to lie about their gay candidates that infuriates me is their presumption that all conservatives (read “especially the ‘Christians’ whose vote they want but who apparently embarrass them)…their assumption that all conservatives would gasp, choke on their own tongue and turn democrat if an honest gay conservative ran for office.

As someone else pointed out above, the lying is the primary issue when they are running for public office. The GOP leadership is so blasted patronizing to both gays and Christians and I’m getting really sick of it.

I’ve written here before, South Carolina has put Lindsey Graham into office several times with the assumption that he is homosexual. We don’t “know” it, we just think that this is the case.

It was just “understood” that if he happened to be “that way” that he would not make it a problem for South Carolinians, and that he would vote conservatively. The first has been borne out, the second–not so much.

The GOP Leadership brings this on themselves by refusing to do the heavy lifting required to confront bigotry and stereotypes IMO. If the party is ever going to successfully elect candidates who aren’t “white men”, the Leadership needs to actively support these other candidates and do some heavy lifting by confronting bigots and racists first within the GOP. I have yet to see the Leadership develop the counter attack needed to then effectively call out Dems on their cry of racism, etc. If you can’t get your own party to strongly support the non-”white male” candidate, you will NEVER convince anyone else your candidate deserves their vote. Maybe the Leadership should take a page out of Ann Coulter’s play book. While the Left vilifies her, she can defend her point of view like few others on the Right. And it couldn’t hurt the party any more than the self-inflicted damage they have been doing to themselves to date.

I can only go by what I have read on HB regarding Kirk’s history of lying. I remember during the primaries there was much discussion about it. I was supporting the Polish named GOP candidate because he was the conservative.
Something Rush talks about frequently and something I agree with, is Democrats always divide people into categories: gay or not, white or not, rich or not, etc. GOP don’t look at people as categories. Maybe that’s why you don’t hear them talking about outing someone. GOP feel thats someone’s personal business if they want to be out they will come out. We don’t look at individuals as black, white, red or yellow skinned;we don’t focus on what people do in the bedroom; we try to look at their gifts and talents and their character. If we disagree with their beliefs as far as government policy is concerned we may say we are against them. Lying has more effect than being gay in regard to turning off the GOP voters.

      Kirk did win the primary.

I am wondering what would happen if one of the other contenders decided to run as an Independent.

On the Dem side you have the sleazy Giannoulias (which on that Jag blog stated that he was a lover of Obummer) and on the GOP side you have the equally sleazy Mark Kirk.

Therefore, if an independent decided to run, I wonder how that would change the dynamics?

Neither of these candidates should end up in the Senate in my view. Mark Kirk is a RINO and not a reliable vote on many issues.

Ugh. This is getting so tedious with the Republican party. These weird closeted conservatives are just beyond the pale. By the way, that documentary Outrage is quite good. It originally aired on HBO, but you can go watch it on YouTube here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMGS4wrK2bY&feature=related

It has 9 parts. These guys are pathetic. And yeah, it’s all men in the closet here. Charlie Crist looks like a complete boob in this. In a small sense you feel sorry for them, but it quickly fades as you realize the bizarre lengths they go to to keep it covered up–and their strenuously anti gay stance and anti gay voting records.

I understand the abortion issue and why the right fights like hell against it–that makes total sense to me. But the Republican party has to get off the whole gay thing. Log Cabin Republicans–hello, they do exist-but don’t seem to be terribly influential in the party yet. I think it would be good for the party to have an openly gay, hard nosed fiscal conservative member of congress.

Just be a gay conservative. Be a gay fiscal conservative. But just be open and honest about it. It’s 2010 for God’s sake. We’re so over it already.

If you watch this documentary, they briefly touch on the fact that there are plenty of closeted gay Democrats in politics too–but lets face it,the Republicans have made themselves the party of family values. The Dems have not. The Republicans are an easy target. And of course there’s a political double standard-nothing new there.

Any gay man or gay woman who gets married to a member of the opposite sex is a human disaster. My gay cousin got married–ended horribly. That episode hurt a few people. When closeted gay politicians lead this dreadful double life it hurts their families, their constituents and can reverberate well beyond their personal circle. These people make public policy.

I feel certain that you could still get blackmailed over this kind of “secret” today to vote this way or that way or whatever–who knows.

That former new Jersey politician-Jim McGreevey(D) is a monster. That (D) stands for DICK. His former wife is interviewed in this documentary. She is just devastated. He came out as a “gay American” because he got caught. Period. But he did actually admit it.

Not so much for that married Republican who got caught playing footsie in a notorious bathroom stall by an undercover cop.

Yes,there will always be a double standard for Republicans on pretty much everything-quick look surprised. The main stream media is generally not staffed by conservatives. Which is why gay conservative politicians should just be up front about it from the get go. Just diffuse it-take it off the table.

If any openly gay conservative says and does all the right things and votes the right way on the issues–tax cuts, limited gov’t, spending cuts, reform, is patriotic-their constituents would keep voting for them.

Yeah you may get some grousing from the evangelical part of the party, but I think people mostly vote their pocketbook, even very religious people who may “hate the sin,but love the sinner.”

So, is this documentary biased-sure. Is there a media double standard against the GOP-of course. But in a sense, they have brought it on themselves.

And I would like to see Mr. Rogers, whose mission in life seems to be outing conservative politicians, turn that same microscope onto President Obama as well.

Help us Lady GaGa-you’re are only hope.

Jane2: I do not care who is in the closet, out of the closet or somewhere in between. I only have recent;y learned that the count of
Rebubs vs Demo controls all the work done in the senate or the house. What a shock. And so important. If your do not have the majority you have no investigative authority at all, you only control all the house and senate commiitties and can thwart each and every bill if you are the majority party.

Umm okay… So some moron filmmaker who goes around digging into people’s personal lives decides to target someone and you believe them?? I’ll believe it when I see the pictures.

Frankly, Kirk is adored by the Chicago media, so this guy is going to be treated similar to that nutcase Andy Martin. And yes… he’s basically the only Republican who can actually win that seat. (He’s about as conservative as you’re going to get in IL folks.. Sarah Palin doesn’t play well in Chicago).

Here’s my question. Let’s assume that Mark Kirk is in fact gay and didn’t support repealing DADT. Does that, on its own, necessarily make him a hypocrite? Because theoretically, I could see a gay person believing that gay people serving openly in the military could lead to problems with homophobic fellow military people and impede military missions. Or that openly gay people in the military would be more subject to violence and harrassment from their fellow troops. I don’t believe either of those things, but someone could.

It does not make him a hypocrite if his orientation is homosexual and he’s celibate (which, I think, would describe a lot of really good Catholic priests).

One definitely could be gay and pro-DADT. Take me (please). Gay and Republican here. I’m vehemently anti-gay marriage here and it’s got nothing to do with a cover story. Or the fact that I don’t have a boyfriend. Would that cause a D to cry that I’m a hypocrite? You betcha.

(For the record, I am strongly against DADT.)

        Rhodoum:

I like how you attack the presumption that if one is gay then they MUST support policy X.

Its an offshoot of the lefty logic of if you are black/woman/college student/Latino then you MUST support X.

I don’t get how celibacy does anything to make him more or less of a hypocrite. Unde DADT, gay servicemen could be closeted during active duty and have all the gay sex they wanted when they’e on leave.

New to posting here but have been lurking for a bit…
Do we not elect our representatives to represent the needs, views and wants of the majority of constituents who put them into office? If Kirk is gay and for DADT, his job is to represent the majority of his current or future constituents if that is what they want. The problem (amongst many) with politicians is the lying and flipping and flopping and allowing their votes to be bought and sold for their personal gain at the expense of the needs and wants of those who put them in office. Of course, the voting public has demonstrated quite often in recent years their lack of reading for comprehension skills

In political circles, both in Illinois and D.C., the idea that Kirk is gay has been more open secret than rumor. And that’s been the case for years, ever since his first run for Congress a decade ago. Everyone I know who is really involved in gop politics has always just assumed Kirk was gay.

The real worry here is extortion. Until his vote last week to keep DADT, Kirk had always voted for pro-gay bills as a Congressman. Were his votes controlled by a fear of being outed?

Impossible to say for certain, all we know is that Kirk went off the reservation on DADT last week, and now he’s being outed in any more major way.

It’s Kirk’s fault for not being honest and for putting himself in this situation. And I don’t blame Mike Rogers for wanting to expose Kirk’s hypocrisy and betrayal of other gay people.

Kudos again to HillBuzz for being way ahead on this story. You sounded the alarm well before the Feb 2nd primary voting and too few listened about Kirk.

Oh, by the way, someone mentioned the “Polish named GOP candidate.” That guy ran for governor, not senate, and came in 4th in that primary.

The GOP, gay or straight, does not need liars. Liars run as democrats.

If two lovers practice together in the same law firm, does that make the firm responsible when their personal conflicts affect their work?

Attorneys Kathleen Dumais and Bibi Berry, both of the Paley Rothman Law Firm, located in Bethesda, MD, are the first openly gay couple to practice together in the same law firm. It was disclosed to me, during one of our meetings concerning my divorce process, that they were in fact lovers and spending lots of time “together” working on divorce cases, attending Maryland political events and the like.
Upon learning of this personal relationship in the workplace, I quietly questioned, their ability to perform professionally while working on my divorce. Both women appeared competent, warm and professional, but most definitely in love. I trusted their confidence presence. Unfortunately, I was wrong to put my trust in their capabilities and the Paley Rothman Law Firm.
    Kathleen at email kdumais@paleyrothman.com
    Bibi at email bberry@paleyrothman.com
    Thanks for your feedback.
