Glenn Beck Lincoln Memorial Rally Open Thread
Please use this thread to discuss what you are seeing and hearing about the Glenn Beck rally at the Lincoln Memorial today.
We’re all going to be there in that crowd, so we hope to meet as many of you as possible. We’re getting there super early in the morning, and will be staying all day, so we might not be able to do any updates on what’s going on until we can get back to the hotel and onto our computer.
So, until we can post our recaps and reports, we need your help to keep people up to date with what’s going on.
If you are following us on Twitter, you might be able to get a running stream from us on that, provided our cell batteries hold out and we can get a signal in that big of a crowd. Here in Boystown, whenever there are big events like Pride or Market Days, the cell networks get overwhelmed with that many people all in one place…so all those magical little bars just disappear and something like Twitter can’t come up.
But, we’re going to try our best to make use of Twitter to give a running commentary, since we know we won’t be able to access WordPress remotely until much later in the day.
Those of you following us on Twitter would be a huge help if you could repost our Tweets into this thread, because WordPress doesn’t have an ability to auto-do-that for us.
Thanks so much…and wish us luck in getting some good scoops, photos, and info at the rally.

Great. I need to get Twitter set up on my Blackberry. I’m sitting on the bus still realizIng that I just cannot sleep sitting up. Not gonna happen. So I’m just sitting here with my daughter peacefully sleeping in my lap. No sense in both of us being tired all day tomorrow. Can’t wait!
Last year at the 9/12 event I took Tylenol pm to help me sleep on the bus. My sister slept in the aisle!
Sitting here unable to sleep on a bus with my daughter peacefully sleeping in my lap. Glad one of us won’t be a zombie tomorrow. If we are able to meet up, I’ll be the Mom with the huge bags under her eyes. LOL
Send me an email where you are. I will be on site at about 4 or so. If you are up I would love to say hi. – K
Yup, ya can feel it in the air tonight! I just posted some food for thought at the outpost (my blog). I thought of you thundering 3rd shifters out there just waitin for the sunrise. Kudos to ya’ll. Hope ya brought lots of cameras! I just had to get a shout out from the badger state before bed!
Recent tweets from our BuzzBoyz:
“There are THOUSANDS of people already camped out at the lincoln memorial. THOUSANDS at 330 am.”
“People singing songs. Praying for America. A giant patriotic slumber party.”
I’ve decided to stop focusing on how much I wish I could be there with my family right now, and instead focus on how profoundly grateful I am that, far away as we are, I will still get to see it.
And now I really need to get to bed or I’ll miss the whole thing. Stay safe and God bless, all.
Prayers to all of you. I am helping getting troops ready to deploy. I wish I could meet some of you, but our DC group is going to get together sometime!!! Kevin, I look forward to meeting you Boyz some other time.
Just joined Twitter to follow HillBuzz and Glen Beck. Hillbuzz latest twitter:
Everyone is being so nice and kind on the ground. People keep streaming in.
This was about 1/2 hr ago.
Wow . . . that’s awesome. Normally, I’m not one to be camping out but if I could, I would be with y’all.
Can someone tell me when it starts?
and what is the closest metro to the lincoln memorial? thanks.
Three different on-line sites say the closest stop is Foggy Bottom.
Hope this helps!
thank you!
Yes, I thought it was the closest, just wanted to confirm before I got on the metro.
Be sure to allow yourself enough time. Apparently there are huge crowds at the metro stations.
Actually the Federal Trianlge Stop is very close as well….
Don’t know if you still have time to read. Glenn’s website has detail info re metro.
http://www.glennbeck.com/828/
Excitement is in the air.
BTW…. all…. looks like Google maps is deliberately giving people the wrong information as to where to go….
Redstate.com just reported on this.
here is the link
http://www.redstate.com/absentee/2010/08/27/a-funny-thing-happens-on-the-way-to-the-lincoln-memorial/
PLEASE…. use bing, yahoo.
Looks like the idiots ar Google are deliberately misleading people!
http://maps.bing.com/
use this.
DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE ANYMORE!
Regular people can edit Google Maps so it could very well be the Lefties doing this not Google themselves. That being said, there’s no excuse in not fixing this issue ASAP.
Psalm 83:2-5
wow – what a surprise. do they really think they will get away with that?
Thank you for the heads-up, SS, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised at anything the left is capable of doing…but I am constantly amazed at just how far they are prepared to go. Just removed google from my “favorites bar” and replaced it with Bing! Have a great day everyone; wish I could be there too. I’ll be watching!
Let’s take their behavior at face value and believe what they are telling us about themselves.
Minimum:
1. They are no longer primarily concerned about concealing what they are doing, who they are attacking and what their goals are.
2. They sense their time is short, and are ready to go public and as violent as they need to be.
a. SEIU is just a small example of this.
b. They will soon discard any pretense of being primarily associated with the democrat party…they are the left’s version of the KKK and won’t care who knows it.
7:30 am 8/28…we’re headed out to the rally.
Thousands were camping out last night so think we’ll be somewhere near the back…no problem for us. We didn’t mind no sleep but the mosquitos kept us from spending the night.
As usual, the crowd was full of decent, hard working folks…the libs will hate that.
We’ll try and send some pictures from the i-phone. Talk to you later.
BTW….. just read at a comment on another blog…..there was an annoucement at the Americans for Propersity dinner last night by Michelle Bachmann that at 1:30 this afternoon…..(may need to confirm this with her office.)
there is going to be a national townhall….. a mic is going to be set up and people will be able to ask questions of their reps on the steps of the capitol.
May want to confirm this from Bachmann’s office…. but I read this from another comment at another blog.
What?! Ask questions of DEM reps?! I don’t believe it – they wouldn’t dare! Those people are probably afraid of crowds right now anyway.
Asking a question of a democRAT representative does *not* necessarily mean that you’ll get an answer.
Have a wonderful day, all who are there! Thank you so much for making the trip.
This makes me shiver with hope and joy, knowing this is taking place.
And think of this: it will be like a preview of the Palin inauguration on Jan 20, 2013!
God, how I wish I could have been there!
Hey — remember how everyone was trying to tell us just a year or so ago that Obama and his cronies were in power FOREVER; that he was going to be declared Dictator Foe Life; that Obama was going to have his own private army of thugs; and that we would all be rounded up and sent to FEMA camps if we tried to do anything to halt the tide of sewage rolling out of Washington, DC? And there were a few brave souls who kept saying “NO! We vastly outnumber them! We are Americans, and we WILL NOT submit to totalitarianism!” Know what? Those brave souls were RIGHT.
Amen to that!
for anyone unable to attend…. you can watch it here, live streaming.
http://www.glennbeck.com/828/
The live feed is great!
And if you want to watch it on tv, it’s being carried live on CSPAN.
I gave up on sleeping. Here’s the latest on the Twitter:
People brought garbage bags so all trash is taken out and mall left clean…unlike obama inauguration.
People sharing food water blankets chairs. Unbelievable kindness and patriotism on display
Got adopted by big family from NC who are sharing their donuts and snacks. Too cool. Never seen people so excited.
Spontaneous patriotic singing and shouts of both USA and GOD.
Great Merciful Zeus…crowd so big it completely surrounds entire reflecting pool down to WWII memorial.
Thank you SO much for reposting Twitter!…. I get confused and don’t know how to access it. Thank you.
All this, and yet the MSM are calling Beck all manner of vile and untrue things. They say he is trying to fit into MLK’s shoes, Lincoln’s shoes. The NYT was especially vitriolic today.
How many times has Beck stated that he is just the organizer of this happening, that it is really for and about us?
How very frightened they are! That is good!
Adds to Twitter:
One of the greatest experiences of our lives and rally has not even started yet.
It was a big slumber party at the lincoln memorial but no one is tired even after sleeping in mud or on concrete.
Democrats are in more trouble this fall than they could ever imagine.
The Boyz’ tweets are also displayed (most recent first) on the right-hand side of the frontpage of this blog (scroll down a bit past the archives etc.).
Good tip! Thanks.
Oddly enough . . . nothing on Fox News so far about what’s going on at Lincoln Memorial.
Agreed….have been watching all morning and not a peep! Like they are deliberately ignoring it. Why?
Well, they finally showed a short, short video of the Lincoln Memorial setup.
but basically a close up of the memorial itself…..nothing on any crowds. Odd.
I think that Glenn wanted it to be non political and so FOX covering it would have made it a right wing event with the LSM.
hmmmm…good point maybe…I hope you’re right
Why are we worrying about the opinions of the Left? The Left can mess with a lot of things but not the truth — they can’t change that!
I don’t think it’s odd. I think it’s great! Everyone knows where Beck’s home is . . . FOX. Enough said, and I’m thrilled to be sitting here watching it on a completely unrelated station, blow for blow, WITH YOU GUYS!!!!!!!
ok…. off to the rally…. will try and get video and picture
Can’t wait to read your thoughts about the rally, ssmith!
Am here with roommie. CAn kinda see a jumbo tron through tree branches. Reflecting pool area is packed, were beind the portajohns, near the pond. People streaming in, packed past WWII memorial
Can’t wait to see the pictures. Little more than an hour now.
For y’all on Twitter, hashtag is #828. Lots of incredible photos being posted.
I am a Twitter newbie. How do I get there?
What are you using? Clients should be able to add a column – just enter “#828″. I use Tweetdeck – I entered #828 into search and it popped up the column for that.
Fox News just showed some video of the Memorial.
Live streaming has begun on Facebook, with a large choir singing “Amazing grace.”
Argh…they won’t let me “like” and its stuck at 153,000
Restoring Honor Rally at Facebook LIVE!

Much luck, and big hugs and kisses to everyone in D.C.
To quote Scarlett, “I’m must pea green with envy!”
Go Patriots, Go!
Does anyone know of/have a link where we can watch the Kennedy Center event of last night?
That is available on Insider Extreme on glennbeck.com. Extreme is a subscription, but well worth it, imo. Also, considering Glenn personally paid for all of the tickets in the Kennedy Center for that event, I think he’s perfectly justified putting that footage there.
what is the twitter site?
Wow!
There’s a ton of people there!
There’s going to be a lot of gnashing of teeth over this.
Hi, long time lurker, and love this site!
I wanted to let you know that CSPAN will also be broadcasting the rally, starting at 10 AM EDT. So if you want to save bandwidth and see it on your TV, CSPAN is your channel!
Skymom
Wondering how they will downplay this? G’head Oppressives, we choose to believe what we see rather than what you say!
Looks like the place is packed!
I am watching both on Facebook and on c-span. Same audio, but different video right now. Crowd on C-span, and jumbotron video on Facebook.
I was surprised to read an article about the rally in Geneva’s main newspaper, Le Temps, with a pic of Glenn Beck. Which means a little publicity in Europe !
I am already so overwhelmed with pride in our nation that tears are coming to my eyes. Glenn said that there are over 1/2 million people there.
Sharing your tears.
But, LOL, Glenn said “The media is reporting there is over 1,000 people there.” LOLOLOL
Crying here as well! Only I’m crying at the Boyz’ tweets about people spontaneously singing and praying for America. There is still hope as long as we seek the LORD.
Now with the bagpipes. Gotta grab a tissue again……
I was surprised at the crowds reaction to Beck. I don’t think they are there for him. They are waiting for the main attraction. He’s her warm up.
The reflecting pool area is filled – holds 200,000. The field beside it is packed – it holds 250,000. They’re starting to fill up the area at the Washington Monument.
Well, I was supposed to go – talked a friend into a road trip and then he bailed! So here I am with you all. : )
These kids today don’t know from spontaneous.
Sorry you couldn’t go. So many of us wish we could have went!
Wish there was someone who could get an aerial shot of the crowd…. anybody have a guesstimate of how many people are there?
Glenn says at least 500,000.
over 500,000! Hmmm… wonder how many are at Sharpton’s event? They probably can’t even find Sharpton- it’s dwarfed and run over by those who truly LOVE America! LOL LOL LOL!
KJA said above:

500k may be high but I was there and 300k+ is for sure. 200k+ around the reflecting pool, and 10s of thousands for sure in front of Washington.
I heard Beck make some remark, as he was looking up at the sky, about “they just violated the airspace to film the crowd”. Not sure if he was joking or not. Maybe someone did get in an aerial shot?
Glenn Beck probably isn’t far off when he says that the media announced over 1,000 people were at the rally. The LSM either uses unofficial estimates or finds officials who lie.
On 9/12, I think overhead pictures were banned, which made it difficult to digitally analyze the crowd numbers. I think everyone should take a pic and put it on a blog/twitter.
It doesn’t really matter, though. If everyone at the rally votes, everyone will notice in November.
If anyone says the Nat’l. Park Service “crowd estimate” was *anything* at all – don’t believe it! The Park Service never gives a crowd count/estimate. It’s against their policy.
LSM is reporting “thousands”. Not hundreds of thousands, just thousands. Figures.
I noticed about 2 dozen really lame protesters in my walk around the Lincoln end of the mall. The media will say there were thousands.
Did you take a picture of them …. then you can make fun of them on November 3rd.
Wow, there are 81,866 watching on the Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/restoringhonor
10500 are now watching
109,837 now
Now up to 111,477. Amazing.
117,235 now.
On a tangentially related noted, I’m glad to see that Glenn is wearing his Kevlar.
Angela — I noticed that too. I don’t think Sarah was, however. Did you see how many security people walked out with Beck?
Geez. CNN has Palin on but not Fox News?
CNN was probably just hoping she’d gaffe (they frequently confuse her with Biden). Fox won’t do anything over the top for fear of being accused of partisanship.
Sarah! Sarah!
It’s up over 90,000 viewing now that Sarah’s on!
Interestingly, I see only two police officers in the whole crowd. Don’t need no crowd control.
“Look around you, you are not alone, you are Americans.”
S. Palin
It’s nice to hear those words spoken with strength and pride.
Yes, and WITHOUT a teleprompter.
Kevin, did you hear that? People who have done the right thing when it is tough, restoring honor.
That certainly describes our BOYZ!
Does anyone know what that dude screamed out about “your hero” or something?
Felix, he said, “Glenn, YOU’re a hero.”
merci, mon ami.
Je vous en prie, m’sieur.
I text donated.
Me too!
Awesome!! Now that would be an interesting stat to find out…how many people did that as a direct response to Glenn’s request. Big numbers, I bet.
Me too!
Slept in, so just turned on the TV. Saw the tail end of Sarah’s speech. She is just so dang NICE and GENUINE!!! Crowd is immense, respectful – MY KIND OF AMERICANS!!!! Awesome…
I’m ticked that I only caught the last couple minutes of her speech. I was trying to log into Facebook, but I couldn’t remember my password, and I was stuck in this stupid loop where Facebook took the email address that I provided and matched it to my user name on that sight, then on the next screen indicated that there was no email account by that name of Facebook. I gave up. I then came back to the link for Facebook that was provided on Hillbuzz only to find Sarah was just about done with her speech! Darn it!
I’m sure C4P will have the entire speech on their website … you can catch it later.
c-span will broadcast the whole rally again tonight-not sure of the time though.
Latest tweet from Hillbuzz:
“This is very mych a Palin 2012 campaign rally. You betcha.”
about 2 hours ago via mobile web
“look around you, you are not alone.” -@sarahpalinusa
Amen.
I think that’s a T-shirt line!
Agreed!
Wow, I didn’t know that LaRussa and Pujols would be there.
Um…LaRussa is smokin’!
This is so inspiring.
So far, both recipients of the new ‘Faith, Hope and Honour’ awards have at length spoken of Jesus Christ.
This is like garlic, a cross or a silver bullet, to the Leftists.
I can hear heads exploding already!
Wow! Glenn deserves a medal of his own!
Oh my, the circle is complete. I went over to Democratic Underground to see their reaction, and what greeted me first? A Marco Rubio ad. LMAO.
Psyching them out, eh?
Not that I mind this, but there is a lot of talk about Jesus Christ. I’m sure that will be a sore point with many who support obama on the left.
I have to wonder how many in the audience there are not keen on this aspect of the rally. There are those who just don’t believe, but who still believe in what Glenn Beck seems to stand for. I hope people are not going to mock this, because it just might be at their own peril.
I understand what you’re saying. But, I look at it like this. Glenn has always been very up front about his faith. So even for non-believers, if they believe in what Glenn is saying with this rally, they knew to expect some talk of God.
Let others mock. I think Jesus said something about those who spite you for your faith in Me…
nomobama, “I’m sure that will be a sore point with many who support obama on the left.”
BONUS! Of course it will upset them! They are faithless heathens.
As far as the audience goes, anybody who has watched Glenn at all knows he is devout. In fact, he thinks ‘faith’ is the only thing that will save the country.
There is also evident today the truth that Martin Luther King was a Christian minister, who often spoke of Christ his savior, and prayed to God in his name.
Good point.
It strikes me that people who object to personal appeals to God have NEVER read the speeches or seen the footage of the Civil Rights marches. Most of the rallying cries against segregation included that people had God-given rights to equality.
Then again, the “reverend” in front of MLK Jr’s name has been replaced with “doctor” so that many young people are surprised to learn that the doctorate was in theology, not sociology or history.
Exactly … and clearly they have chosen to ignore or be ignorant of the great faith our founding fathers had and USED in designing our country.
I think there is a vulnerability here. While Christians (I’m one) feel strongly about the freedom to express their faith, that should not be translated to mean a “Christian government” because then we’re shadowing what Islam has done: it is simultaneously a “religion” and a dictatorial form of government.
To the extent that anyone of (any) faith truly believes what they confess, it is inherently dicey to “demand” a form of government completely reflecting (only) THEIR faith….because then they’ve put themselves in a position to demand that everyone believe what they do. That’s dangerous ground for anyone, Christians included.
It’s been concerning me for about an hour….sheesh, I hope this doesn’t end up looking like a Jerry Falwell Patriotic Conference. (And I HAVE a lot of Jerry Falwell’s writings, so I’m not knocking his ministry and life…I’m concerned about how this is perceived and USED later by the left)….the emphasis today should be on national recovery, national honor and national health…and that certainly includes freedom of religion….but not dominance of any one religion.
I know there are agnostics and maybe a few athiests who post on Hillbuzz. Frankly, I don’t want to lose the privilege of standing shoulder to shoulder with them for our nation.
Phooey. I hope they don’t blow this.
I’m feeling mighty uncomfortable about this too. I’m a fundie Christian, (well, sort of fundie!) and all this talk of Jesus is making ME uncomfortable. I don’t want them (the left) to blow this off because it was just a bunch of Christians. I don’t want a theocracy – and I’m afraid that this rally looks like we do. Maybe they do, I don’t. I’m afraid this will alienate alot of independents.
“Theocracy”!!! That’s the word I couldn’t find!! Me neither.
Debra,
If you read what the Founding Fathers wrote, you would understand that they were not calling for a theocracy, but they understood that our government would not endure unless people of faith in Christ were first devoted to Christ and then acted in Christian behavior towards their fellow man. They understood that, man being sinful, would find all kinds of ways to get into mischief, and that government had the threat of force to do great damage to the people.
Only men (or women) with self-restraint would be able to resist the use of force against the people they governed. Even Noah Webster said, “Education is useless without the bible.”
There will always be those who will criticize what just took place. This is nothing new. What Glenn and Kevin and Sarah are all talking about is overcoming the worry about “what others think.” All are calling for just doing the right thing, living by the rule of law and following the Constitution.
For the Jews among the crowd, they should know that it is the United States with its Christian perspective of limited government that is Israel’s greatest friend, well, at least it used to be up until the current administration. And America has devoted more aid to those in other countries with different religions than any other country. It’s the whole concept of Charity that Glenn was talking about. I offer Haiti as a recent example.
Oh please, I’m tired of the whole Christians should be seen but not heard schtick. Idiots who drone on about Gaia and how the earth’s gotta fever are smart and cutting BUT 80% of Americans better not mention Jesus cause someone somewhere might get offended. Well, too bad for them! All Christians should live-out-loud. I mean, really, how’s that silent majority crap working our for you!1?
I’m Jewish and I was at one of their American Revival meetings. My husband is Christian and we’ve had the talk many times how I feel left out when Jesus is mentioned at things we’ve been at. Well wouldn’t you know Glen addressed this very thing! It hurt really bad to hear it because he was kinda blunt, but he called me a bigot! I was kinda taken aback but then he explained further that we are looking for spirituality and in this day and age we need to take it where we can get it. Just because it’s being presented in a “Christian” package doesn’t mean we are being left out, it means we are all like minded.
Huge paraphrasing there but I hope you catch my drift. I hope that he will share those views at some point because I felt like the independents looking for direction and being left out. It’s so not the case. I’m part of this, yeah, Jesus might be having his name tossed about, but I know my spirituality and I can take it. I’m part of the solution, what ever I am.
Hey, BlackRedneck, I think you’re just the antidote some of us need!!! I love people who never leave me wondering what they meant.
I absolutely love floor-thumping OLD gospel music and love playing it on the piano….but I grew up with a mother who constantly (with the best of intentions) was always bothered when I “played notes that weren’t on the page”!!! And now for the last 25 years, the leftists have sort of had a free-for-all against any public mention of Christ, so I know I flinch a lot when I shouldn’t.
Welcome Blackredneck. Where have you been hiding. Love your name and your comment.
Gonna post this again, since I seem to be lost in the spam filter, hope it works!!

One more point:
When you read the Declaration of Independence, you will note that there are at least four references to God.
Paragraph 1 – …Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God…
Paragraph 2 – …endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights…
Paragraph 32 – We therefore…appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world
And: …with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence…
In the Constitution, under Article 7, there is a reference to Christ in the following:…in the Year of our Lord…
So you see that the underlying principles of our form of government are based on Christian principles. And while just as no human is perfect (other than Jesus), so, too, is our Constitution an imperfect document. However, it is the most freeing document ever created for self-government and all American children should be taught such.
Read George Washington’s Farewell Address to better understand our Founding Fathers’ intentions. God was part of the planning and execution at our founding. And Washington even talks about the dangers of partisan politics via political parties. He was a remarkable man on many levels.
http://www.utulsa.edu/law/classes/rice/Constitutional/Washingtons_Farewell_Address.htm
Don’t worry, Emma. Yes, there was dominance of Christianity. I don’t feel threatened by that (I am not a Christian). The principles being advocated appeal to any spiritual journey. I was very grateful to be able to watch on Facebook.
I just found it a tiny bit over the top (the constant Bible, Jesus, God references). But if they wanted it to be more like a church service and less like a political rally, then that’s fine. It was really not what I expected, though, and I hope those attending knew ahead of time it would be like that!
I’m kinda with you but since it’s gone so far the other way, THIS was needed, i.e. lots of what the left is telling us can’t be in our schools, on the walls of our courts, etc. etc.
Also, when don’t we like driving the left crazy? This is everything they try and stop us from doing.
Glenn spoke all week about what would be in the rally. It was not political rally, he said leave your signs at home… everyone knew it was about faith, hope, charity, we all knew it would be a Jesus fest..
Our Constitution is not removed from religious belief. Equality, for example, is not scientifically-based. The whole theory of evolution is that animal and plant life is constantly striving to be superior to others that might control an environmental niche. The inferior man dies out.
Nor is equality a generically “religious” concept. Not all religions have a concept of equality in society or under the law. We often take for granted that equality is a universal idea, not something laboriously born from the philosophy that God was no “respecter of persons” (meaning one’s level in society) and that the children of God shouldn’t be divided into woman and man, slave and free.
It took a university student from the Middle East to remind me that so many things that we take for granted – from our hospital systems and universities to our many, many charities – are products of Christian philosophy. You might even say that charitable organizations and service fraternities are uniquely American, as Europeans like de Tocqueville and G.K. Chesterton noted.
Which leads me back to this rally. I admit that I had a twinge of concern over the invocations of God. But then again, I experienced religious prejudice starting from an early age and I’m a product of one of the most liberal universities in North America. So this twinge is like the one I get when I hear “classroom rules” – because RULES is a bad word according to my knee-jerk liberal peers who just so happen to be Baby Boomers.
Well said, Miss Jean.
I heard more about faith in God and in our country than specific mentions of Jesus Christ. I have no problem with any of them.
What seems odd about mentioning Jesus these days is that for the last two decades political correctness has prevented Him being mentioned at large gatherings like this. We’ve been forced to shroud our faith almost secretly so much that it seems odd to see and hear mention of Him.
Hopefully the point of faith in God and country were made enough that any put off by the rally and mention of Jesus will recognize that people of multiple faith and even no faith can still love their country.
I’m glad I scrolled down farther before responding – you’ve said it for me, Ten. Thanks!
I for one am sick and tired of the name Jesus Christ being spoken only as a profanity in today’s so-called “society”.
Listening to 3+ hours of people talking freely and emotionally about their love for and reliance upon God and Jesus Christ felt like a refreshing dip in a clear mountain stream, after years literally of not hearing ANYTHING about God except on specifically religious programs. I LOVED it!
Here’s one atheist who doesn’t mind at all. I understand and share your concerns, but I’ve learned not to be paranoid about people of faith.
You have your faith, I have my lack thereof. But when it comes to saving America, I’ve got your back no matter who you worship.
John Huntsman… he is awesome!
I am so glad he is getting an award. A truly wonderful man.
I don’t know of this man, but I am impressed by his charity.
He is a billionaire, but, has vowed to die penniless through his philanthropy.
His book is fantastic.
The most giving man on this planet. IMO.
He doesnt give money to enviromental gibberish like most billionaires. It goes to cancer research.. he has a hospital that is amazing..battered women.
I saw him interviewed and he was crying saying he will spend it all before he dies on helping people.
Awesome man. A saint.
Wow. That’s wonderful. I wonder what in his life led him to this? I mean, was there some event that prompted his generosity?
He grew up poor and his parents died of cancer.
He invented the styro foam boxes that we use to get our big macs in… all those stryo foam cartons we have used for years.
Other than packing peanuts, I’m not too crazy about styrofoam! Oh well, at least he’s funneling the money back into the country, and to those who really need it.
I think when the product was found to be not good for people and environment, he stopped producing them. That says a lot to me about the man.
I think I met one of his sons once when I was on vacation at the beach in Ft. Walton, FL. He had an expensive car for such a young man and when I commented on how nice it was, he said his dad had invented the styrofoam boxes McDonald’s uses – and sort of shrugged. I think he was proud of his dad’s accomplishments and he did not behave in a “spoiled” manner – just a normal boy loose at the beach – which is bad enough
That was almost 30 years ago.
They just showed someone in the audience that looked like Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to me. I wonder if it was him?
I liked the lady who just spoke so eloquently about Jon Huntsman.
Me, too. She was a wonderful, natural, orator. Tears were running down my face. She should be a preacher woman.
Remind your leftist friends that Dr. King was a republican.
They really hate that.
And a Christian minister.
116,079 viewers in FB right now. It keeps growing and growing
How come people watch on facebook? is it different than c-span?
I don’t have cable or satellite TV, so I am able to watch it on the computer.Thank God!
Glenn’s making a tribute to Dr. MLK Jr. now.
That will REALLY get the lefty heads exploding.
They think he’s THEIR own exclusive personal hero.
Way to go, Glenn!!! Touchez!
Liberal heads exploding all over the USA right now!
Yay, Miss King is now on.
Alveda King rocks!
Nice voice.
She is really pretty, too.
True! Excellent song.
wow… lots and lots and lots and lots of people here…. the refelcting pool is completely packed…. people in the overflow sections completely being filled now….
everyone is nice…
Same as the 9-12-2009 March on DC — people were like FAMILY! No trash, everyone watching out for the kids — it was an exhausting but superb experience! I hope you all will make the 9-11+9-12-2010 Marches in DC this year. We can’t let up — keep the rallies, the marches, and the cheering sections in the bleachers packed to capacity, so we get to the 2012 election en masse. We are ensuring that the next generation is not left with a mess. Don’t let the Left abuse the future of our country!!
I love you all here…was looking at that den of vipers sit democraticunderground and thought…why! So, here I come and God Bless you all.
It’s a beautiful thing…and pretty much makes the critics look like fools.
I think Beck just dropped an A-bomb on the Left.
Glenn Beck told everyone that this would be an ongoing prayer meeting so if anyone went there expecting anything other than that then that’s their problem. This Rally is to Restore Honor to our country and make a point to all the Exploding Heads…we will not be silenced.
Thank you for clarifying this. I haven’t been watching Glenn Beck recently. I was thinking that this was another 9/12 rally which was more political. I was under the impression that people were going to this event more for political reasons. Either way, I think it’s great!
I’m standing near the washington monument…. it is pretty much packed… all the way from the lincoln memorial to the washingont monument…. the entire national mall is packed by freedom loving americans
What figure do you estimate the crowd? 200,000??
its beyond that… over 500K
the relfecting pool is packed and overflowing on the sides… the space in front of the Washongotn memorial is packed… the WWII memorial is the only place with some space now…
more than 500K people…
my guess about 750K people… the entire national mall is mostly packed..
Can you believe ALL of the people that were at the Mall? A beautiful sea of polite, friendly Patriotic humanity! It was Awesome!!
Everything so far has been so positive, no mention of lefties at all. Must kill them to be ignored by such a huge Conservative rally!
Lovin’ the gospel music!!
Me, too.
Unity song is fabulous – that gal has some mighty pipes!
I like this “choir” song…
You know, Glenn’s brilliant with his selection of speakers. The minority population is well represented there, and rightfully so. There message makes sense, and it shows that lefties can’t claim the minority mantel to themselves.
love this song… and I’m not christian… I thought the first lady who sang, that was beautiful as well.
what the heck is sharpton going to do? go give a hate filled speech… what a pathetic hate filled loser.
Are you still at the rally?
yep… near the washingonton maonument at the end of the reflecting pool… there was some space left…
still can hear and see the jumbo tvs.
this was very well organized.
Cool. Hope you get to meet some other Hillbuzzers there. Have a good time.
Sharpton is going to look like a looser and a fool..
Al Sharpton looks like a hater and an idiot for protesting this.
If he was a true Christian.. he would be there in the crowd shouting AMEN.
He’s a demagogue.
Ms. King just said “we are one human family”. In Sharpton’s mind, he doesn’t seem to think so.
Yes, we do have racism in this country. Yet, there are many who don’t buy into racism, and false accusations of that only make things worse for everyone.
Uh…I’d start to worry if Sharpton was ever on my side.
Sharpton’s gotta be eating his heart out. I just saw a video of his rally – and there didn’t seem to be even one-tenth as many people there as at ours.
And a lot of his crowd is there for other reasons – brady gun control people, etc.
Too bad, al! LOL.
As would I.
Not to put too fine a point on it, he’s a criminal — incited pogroms, for goodness’ sake) — and just recently has come out in favor of the Victory Mosque.
I agree, BlackRedneck. Lamps under baskets are useless.
It’s crucial that something be done to to save the country, and no solution will be perfect. What’s important is that SOMETHING be done, and Glenn’s picked what he feels is the best route.
As the country repents, turns back to He who guided and formed its beginning through valiant and faithful men and women, so will everyone prosper and grow.
Wouldn’t it have been interesting if 500K folks had stayed for Sharpton’s rally to honor Dr. King? Talk about turning the tables on hate.
This reminds me of what my mother told me they had when she was a child – tent meetings that would last for a week or so, the whole community coming together to worship God and his son.
“Revival meeting” is what I was trying to retrieve from my feeble brain!
Re: all the “God Talk” – as someone who is a Christian but not particularly religious, I have no problem with it. These people are not talking about making narrow “religious laws”, they are talking about the heart, and faith as inspiration for positive change.
I don’t understand the irreligious who can find nothing positive in the faith of others. You don’t have to agree to appreciate the passion, or the intent. I’m not a buddhist, either, but I can admire and respect a buddhist making pleas for peace and acceptance. Why can the non-believing public not do that with Christians as well?
MLK peppered his speeches with references to God as his foundation and inspiration. That didn’t mean that Jews, atheists, whatever could not appreciate his cause.
There is a big difference between “making the Bible the LAW” and “the Bible and faith as INSPIRATION for just laws”. BIG difference.
Very well said!
bingo!
and I am not christian…. but I believe in those basic tenents of God… but I am more spiritual than religious.
I love what Dr. Alaveda King is saying.
God Bless America.
Forgot to say, don’t forget that MLK was a Christian minister.
Growing up, MLK was always called Rev. King. One day, I noticed that he had become Dr. King. I wondered why but then I realized that it was deliberate, revising history to remove the Civil Rights battle from the religious sphere. I’m sure it happened about the time Kwanzaa started being promoted as an “authentic” black holiday.
In the same way, leftist moonbats started the meme that religion is anti-science and anti-reason. They just tear down or disregard all the Christian scientists, Christian universities, and all the Christian orders, like the Jesuits, who have dedicated their lives to science and education and changed the world
Exactly! I said “Reverend King” one time in a class discussion and someone interrupted with “DOCTOR King”. I asked, “What was his doctorate in?”
Silence.
The other thing that gets me is the replacement of BC and AD years with “BCE (Before Current Era)” and “CE (Current Era)” because it corresponds EXACTLY to the Christian calendar. I mean, if you’re going to have your own calendar, be original and number it according to the splitting of the atom or the first year of the Super Bowl.
I’ve always hated Kwanzaa for being a modern, artificial invention, but mostly for “stealing the thunder” of Christmas, the day God Himself was born as a human being.
Maybe that makes me a RAAAAACIST!!!
Hmmmm….thanks for these comments, folks. My early comment above expressing some reservations (as a Christian) and hoping things wouldn’t become offensive to others ie probably out of some personal fear of making unnecessary waves. (and that goes back to our general thought of getting over worrying about what other people are thinking about us as conservatives as well)
Your generosity expressed here reminds me that not everyone lives to be offended! Will keep thinking.
Step out bravely, Emma. It is in your heart.
I am just so tired and sick of all this “I am offended by –what ever—” i copied a saying on my facebook headline the other day
“IAM SO TIRED OF THIS IAM OFFENDED MESS– PUT ON YOUR BIG GIRL PANTIES AND GET.OVER. IT….”"I HAD ABOUT 20 HITS OF AGREEMENT IN 30 MINUTES…
NO MORE APOLOGIES!!!!
I’m an atheist, and I used to be a bit paranoid about the undue influence of religion on our country.
However, the past year and a half has demonstrated that there are far worse influences on America than religion. And the wonderful Christians here on HB have destroyed all my previous assumptions(due mainly to Leftist propaganda).
If you stand for America, I stand with you, no matter what your faith or lack thereof.
Well said!!!! and I agree wholeheartedly!
Wow, MLK’s niece is calling for the restoration of prayer in schools and public squares!
Man…she’s just amazing!
This whole rally is demonstrating just how morally bankrupt and lost the current administration and its followers are.
And this will make them feel like bigger losers than ever.
November is inching closer.

Latest tweet…
The Left is here and they’re picking fights with #restoringhonor attendees. Just saw physical assault.
I sincerely hope no one was hurt and that someone got the taunter on video or in a still picture. Shame on these leftist haters. Shame on those who would stick their finger in the eye of faithful people. Disgusting.
I hope the picker of the fight got his assed wooped.
HA! I love this tweet:
It appears — my fellow Americans — that the community has organized.
THAT is GREAT!
YESSSSS!!!
Awesome! I guess Barky is an “organizer” after all!! Too bad he wasn’t there to take credit!
Hope someone got it on video!
Where can I find their Tweet?
I am reading tweets from #828
Many in the crowd have gone on “boomarang” buses. That is, they departed Friday, “slept” on the bus, they go to the event and then get on the bus and ride home…
Thanks to all who have done that. The media will probably portray all the yawning of the exhausted participants as boredom…
Bless you for going!
LOOK at this post on the Glenn Beck Website. I hope she was innundated with support. She’s my new hero. I’m trying to call her to tell her so, but she has not activated her voicemail (probably doesn’t know how, like me)but WHAT a patriot. When I get through to her, I will try and get her to become a buzzer. She’s definately our kind:
Edie Mae Boudreau Aug 26
I came from NV to attend this rally, but I find transportation a nightmare. I am at the end of the Metro orange line in New Carrolton, MD, and the 1st train is 7 a.m. I am a 75-yr old who came alone, & if anyone near here has room I would be able to pay my share to get as close as we can as early as we can. My cell is 775-318-0515.
Edieb5
Bless her heart. That made me cry. Of course, tears are pretty close to the surface these days. DH and I just received our brand new copy of “Crimes Against Liberty” by David Limbaugh from Amazon this morning. I’m a little overwhelmed.
That made me cry.
Emma, maybe when I finally get through to her, we can make her an honorary buzzer. She sure has my heart. I’m decades younger and would not have braved it alone. What a lady.
wow! me too! I soooo hope she hooked up with some great people. How inspiring is that???!!!!
Now, that’s a brave lady.
I was offered a seat on a “boomerang bus” for only $87.50. Unfortunately, I was unable to go, even for that really cheap price.
I watched it on the facebook feed, however. Awesome! Sarah was fantastic!
Mom in Wisconsin
I have to go now and pay some bills which means I have to turn off the computer. Have a good day everyone.
Came to livestream late, been mostly listening.
Just noticed that Glenn is obviously wearing a bullet proof vest. How sad his security team would have to worry about some idiot trying something stupid.
And his doing this also becomes his fresh declaration that he’s ready to give his life. Today.
WOW, Beck just made me realize just HOW much the Gettysburg address is applicable to TODAY and NOW.
I find that as I get older, these things go directly to my heart, and tears appear of their own volition, and I can’t stop them.
How could I be called a racist? Three of my four great-grandfathers were Civil War vets. (The 4th one was in Canada).
What are the ballpark number for attendees? I’ve heard 100 thousand. Some were 300 thousand.
What say you?
I think its over 500k.
“Official” is 500,000 so it’s probably twice that.
Funny.. the left is figuring the ‘carbon footprint’ of today.
What a bunch of dopes.
Did they figure out the ‘carbon footprint’ of Obama’s inauguration?
Uh, that doesn’t count, eh.
Or of date night to NYC? Or of the trip to Europe to pitch the Chicago Olympics? Or of FLOTUS’s Spanish vaycay? Or any of the vaycay’s for that matter? How about Chelsea Clinton’s wedding?
how ’bout the carbon footprint of the 4 hour traffic jam in LA a couple of weeks ago for Barry’s rush hour motorcade to a fundraiser? Anyone figure that one out?
How ’bout the carbon footprint on their ass?
LMAO. May I please use this?
WHOA!!! We have a WINNAH!!
Step right up to claim your prize!
now THAT is a tee shirt!!!
LOL!
I am not much for organized religion but I love the transcendent nature of the message. It is the latter that stands to bring us together. We will survive, we will overcome, we will see and make a better day. That is an immensely powerful inspiration whatever ones path.
New t-shirt..
“I’ve Picked Up My Stick”… (front)
“Have You?” (back)
I.m buying one of the T-shirts!
Al Sharpton will look a fool, he’ll just spout HATE.. How can he follow this up?
Don’t forget Arne Duncan is going to be there too(Dept. of Ed.)..
Also, looks like there is security on top the monument…..
is sharpton’s rally being televised?
Yes, on C-SPAN this afternoon. Don’t know the time.
thank you. I looked for it a couple of times, but didn’t see anything… just as well I’m sure. Probably just a bunch of paid SEIU thugs and ACORN idiots .. brought to us by stimulus dollars
I had to go out this morning so I’m recording the whole thing and will watch it from the beginning.
As to MSM coverage, I’ve only checked the NY Slimes. It has scrunched up its face, puckered up its orifice of the lower body and admitted that ‘tens of thousands’ are attending, ‘overwhelmingly white’. Had to get that in.
My sweet Cajun hubby, who is normally quiet, is expressing his feelings about the Founders of this Country and what it is all about. He was impressed with Sarah’s speech. He said two words that kind of surprised me…”smart lady”! Whoot! Patrick finally gets it! He agrees that our Country needs her. You would have to understand the Cajun culture to know how big this. In the Cajun culture, women are to be loved, respected, cherished, and most importantly, protected. This.is.huge. If my sweet, protective Cajun hubby is awake, it gives me comfort that the rest of the Country will wake up!
I want a Cajun!!!
Cherry, you are funny, but you have a point!
oh, me too!
I’m with Cherry. Does he have any brothers?
;D
Yes, Bijou he has brothers, but I got the best of the bunch! ;D
There are lots of Cajun men in Louisiana, you should come get you a Cajun.
Laissez les bontemps roulez!
Mais Oui!
Looks like I’m back on WP’s S list – one more try…

“Pick up your stick”
LOL… watch, the radical lunatics will use this one line by Beck completeley out of context..
heck, I’m not christian, and even I get it, I understand what Beck was referring to.
That’s old testament, so it is a Jewish story too (maybe even Muslim, but I don’t know about that).
I have apparently offended WP’s spam catcher.
I was trying to post the Ny Times coverage this morning – it’s the only one I’ve checked so far – and they are trying to downplay it. “Tens of thousands” attending, “overwhelmingly white”.
There is an add-on article about the Tea Party trying to hijack MLK’s day.
There are only 119 comments so far, very light for the NYT, but they have cut off any more comments.
The virulent left wing is in full throat, absolutely vicious. What’s notable is that the number of people ‘recommending’ these posts are running as high as 800 each.
What IS it with these people?
Beck has just nuked the Dems.
How can they(Sharpton, Black Panthers, etc.) beat this???
With a night stick.
: )
I cant wait to read what the boys write about today.
I’m anxious to hear Kevin’s comments too, Kristi.
I told him that this will affect him profoundly.
I have located an AERIAL PHOTO OF THE RALLY (in Update 5). I will also note that the elite media types of the Associated Press claim “Thousands Gather”.
http://templeofmut.wordpress.com/2010/08/28/over-half-a-million-at-the-restoring-honor-rally-in-dc-today/
Awesome!
Great pic! Looks like it was taken from the top of the Washington Monument. Did you hear Beck comment a little while ago that it must be a large crowd, because someone had violated the airspace to take a look.
That’s funny.
“Al Sharpton” and “civil rights” … ces sont des mots qui NE vont PAS bien ensemble.
Please translate! All this french on here and I can only understand a word or two. What I know in French would get me a slap on the face or maybe a pat on the back, depending on who I said it to!
nomobama, my French is rusty, but until you get a true translation from Am Ex – I believe it roughly means that Al Sharpton and Civil Rights are word that do not go well together
MRM, that’s quite right.
It’s horrid to see what sort of enterprise the racism industry has become.
The left are saying Beck’s rally is offensive? Wonder how many have no problem with the victory mosque or even perhaps have expressed support?
Sure sign of success.
Yes they are! I have been in contact with a black man who says it was disrespectful towards Rev King for Beck to hold a rally on this day. BUt of course this man DID NOT listen to any of the rally so has no clue what was said…sheesh.
I was so impressed with all the speakers that I saw and with the crowd.
God BLess America!
Dr. King owned neither August 28 nor the Lincoln Memorial.
And no one involved with the rally did anything that was disrespectful of Dr. King.
Besides, I read at Lucianne.com that August 28 was the only date available to Beck for this rally.
Well, right back at ‘em. I think the Left is offensive.
good answer!
Uh-oh, bagpipes.
Pass the Kleenex!
Sarah Palin crying and singing Amazing Grace.. What a beautiful moment.
I know, I lost it at that.
Bless Sarah and her bless her heart…
Shoot. I didn’t see that. But I’m suspecting that she didn’t have to “work up” the tears.
That’s a monstrous advantage conservatives have. Whether we’re mad or happy; suspicious or trusting; hard-nosed on a point or emotionally moved–we don’t pretend about anything.
The left is constantly, constantly, constantly “playing a role” trying to impact the audience in front of them at the moment. That’s not only complicated, it’s inefficient and eventually it stops working.
I heard the Amazing Grace with the bagpipes and the singers…. but didn’t see Palin. Did the camera zoom in on her then? Shoot… I was eating right then, and probably looked down right at that moment….
You can watch it on http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/id/231521
Start watching at 3:03:00
That’s when he starts telling the story of Amazing Grace.
When they start singing.. the camera cuts to Palin.
I love that movie too.
http://theelephantgraveyard.com/uploads/1281397869/gallery_53_5_73316.jpg
Yeah, lost it at that point too! Ya just want to hug her, don’t you?? Yes, a truly beautiful moment.
Oh wow. Amazing Grace, indeed.
Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Wow.
Thank you.
Powerful passage restated during a powerful event today.
And ON the DATE 8/28 no less…
I believe that is why he chose this date …. I’ve been going to look it up for awhile, so thank you Pat for posting it.
COOL seredipity/synchronicity!
I never made the connection with the date!
That verse is my personal “life verse”–it’s been with me as inspiration all my life, even when I was not a believer, just a wannabe-Hindu pagan!
When things get tough (which is a lot of the time) I need to check to make sure that verse is still in there. Every time I’ve looked, thinking maybe it was taken out of the Bible- it’s still in there to hold me up.
One of the first Bible verses I ever learned, and one of my favourites always! Thank you for the reminder!
Amen
Just finished watching it on live-feed through Facebook….amazing, inspiring, goose-bumps, Praise God for using Glen Beck to bring emphasis on our best weapon for freedom….our Lord God.
C-Span just said they would be re-airing the rally in their overnight programming.
I think they are also running both rallies again Tuesday evening, prime-time.
Here are the first set of AP pictures including crowd shots and a couple of ariels.
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Glenn-Beck-host-Lincoln-Memorial-rally/ss/events/us/082610beckrally#photoViewer=/100828/480/urn_publicid_ap_org_dfaf142e906e416cbf19d361b0778f31
Shot #11 is good overview of crowd.
And here is what AP says, if you can believe it:
Glenn Beck borrows rhetoric at his DC rally from candidate Obama’s stump speech in 2008
Associated Press
Last update: August 28, 2010 – 11:57 AM
WASHINGTON – Glenn Beck is borrowing some lines from President Barack Obama.
At his rally with tens of thousands on the steps of Lincoln Memorial, Beck used the closing lines of then-candidate Obama’s campaign stump speech of 2008.
AP ==> American Pravada
Good grief..
Right, because Barrack Obama is the only person to end an event with the words, “God Bless.”
Didn’t Red Skelton end his programs with “God bless”?
Beck “borrowing lines from” fumblemouth?
That’s.just.stupid. They.truly.are.bankrupt.
Funny how they never noticed when Obama pulled entire speeches from Deval Patrick and Bill Clinton and Spike Lee movies.
And gee, wasn’t “HOPE” Bill Clinton’s campaign theme?
But they never picked up on that, no no no.
If only they would show such concern for unearthing what O “borrowed” from Bill Ayers.
I missed the first hour.. CSPAN is going to replay the whole thing tonight.
Anyone know what time its going to be replayed?
kristi — if cspan does not replay it… I would look on glennbeck’s site…. they will most likely have the entire thing on their website.
I missed Palin speaking.. I want to see that!!!
kristi :
go to conservatives4.palin.com
they have Palin’s speech.
THANKS!!!!
Watched it.. thank you so much for the link!
Ahhh.. what a great day!
go to her FB page
Here’s the link to the event in the CSPAN video library:
http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/id/231521
not yet, it will be announced later today. BUT, they will also replay the entire thing in prime time on Monday!
CSPAN camera shots were not great. The Livestream feed was much better. I would expect that was produced by Becks team. Go to Becks site for the better footage and replays. Also, Beck will be on FOX with Geraldo tonight discussing the rally.
I watched both at the same time, with the audio up on C-span (better speaker on the television).
He’ll probably post excerpts on his web site. I sure hope it won’t be just available to subscribers.
That was fun watching with 130,000 other patriots on Facebook. More than any primetime show on MSNBC, lol.
I noticed one thing during the UStream page’s Twitter stream. There were too many people there bashing Beck, calling him every bad name in the planet including “Fuhrer”…
But no one, NO ONE, would touch Dr. Alveda King with a ten-foot pole.
No one.
I saw that too, but I thought how sad the lives of these people must be.
I was just thinking (I know, it’s dangerous!) what a phenomenon this was today, and we take for granted that people from all over the United States can watch an event together, and talk about it in real time, by looking at a screen and typing into a keyboard! Twenty years ago, this would have been amazing.
Twenty years ago, unless you were there IN PERSON you would more than likely have had to rely on ‘the media’ to find out about it. How totally frightening is that!!??
Would love to see a you tube video of the Amazing Grace rendition go through the roof
Holy cow… reporters on the ground are saying 1 MILLION people attended.
Who’s saying it?
I don’t think there were more than 200 thousand, at least from looking at the aerial picture.
Besides, the space around the Lincoln Memorial doesn’t accommodate more than half a million. The National Mall, on the other hand, can accommodate up to a million people.
It was a news report I got on twitter.
Ugh.. I will try to find it again…and post the link.
OK.
http://www.examiner.com/conservative-in-national/crowd-estimates-early-reports-from-beck-s-restoring-honor-rally
Here you go… update #5
Newton, the Park Police told Beck, and he announced that the two areas left and right of the reflection pool were filled. One holds 200 thousand people the other holds 250 thousand. So that’s 450K and that was at 10 AM while people were still arriving. The pool area was completely filled with people arm to arm. The area was filled through the new WWII monument and beyond. I’d say there were certainly more than 500K there, perhaps upwards of 6 or 7.
Hon we filled the whole area not just the reflecting pool but the side fields and back to Washington monument it was crazy full I’m a local and easily 600-800 thousand or more.
not sure if 1 million is correct,
it was definitley much more than 500K
still in line waiting to go home…. and I could not find a place expect near the Washington monument… the WWII had some space, but there were many visitors (not BEck rally people)
the reflecting pool, both sides were packed… it went all the way to the washingoton monuement… and even that was pretty crowed
ya know what… that picture does not refelct the peoepl near the washingotn monument… and it was very crowded there as well
kristi — I stand corrected, it very well might be close to 1 million
not 1 million, but defeniltely much more than 500K
Take into account that there are people under the trees as well… that’s where my husband and teens were.
I can’t tell in the aerial shot. Was that a crowd of people over in the left also? To the left of the group on the left side of the water? With the trees between them and the group on the left side of the water?
I was just looking at some of the pics I took – and considering the how jammed we all were near the Lincoln (in the trees as well), I would have to say that the crowd could be well over 500,000!
Found this via C4Palin, from Mediate: a bet Bill O’Reilly may come to regret.
“This could maybe prove to be interesting or at least gin up further interest in Glenn Beck’s 8/28 rally from a different angle. Bill O’Reilly has apparently made a wager with Beck that if he gets more than 100,000 attendants at his 8/28 Restoring Honor rally he will give him his 8pm time slot on Fox News.
The wager apparently was a result of O’Reilly telling Beck he figured he would get 15-20,000 people at the rally, Beck revealed he’s hoping for over 100,000 to which O’Reilly replied: “I tell you what, if you have over a 100,000 or 200,000 you need to anchor the 8pm show. You do the O’Reilly factor.”
Time for O’Reilly to eat some crow… Ahem…
HA!
Eating crow is right!
Sounds like a one-time offer-like when BOR is on vacation.
I’m gonna miss O’Reilly.
LOL
Ick. I’m not.
We’ll never get a straight number. Well over 400K I’d guess. Plus all the people watching the live streams & C-Span. Heck, we can even count the Huff-ers, DK-ers et al.
I’d like to see a comparison of today’s AP photo to other Mall events w/known numbers, say that Jan 2009 one.
If anyone has a better aerial photo of the crowd please post.

” …the Huff-ers, Dk-ers et al that were watching, probably in disgust.
Beck said that he has a way to count the crowd size, and he will announce it on Monday.
It was sad that Beck needed to wear an “Iorn Undershirt” (Reagans old nickname) today. He did a great job. The event was very uplifting, positive, and patriotic.
What could possibly be controversial about that event? Oh wait…. liberalism, progressives, err never mind, carry on.
How will the MSM react? I’m sure they’ll make up something, but I am reminded of an old Star Trek episode (original series) where Uhura had been monitoring the planet’s communications. She corrected the senior crew who thought they were an advanced society for being sun worshippers. She told them that they were not worshipping the SUN, but the SON of God. Then she added that those who tried to find fault with their religion couldn’t.
On a naive level, that’s what I expect. The only criticism they could possibly have is that religious faith played such a central role …. most Americans, who have been conditioned to play down their religion for at least two decades now … will not object to the focus on God and country.
MSM: “It was rumored that among the dozens of people in attendance at the Beck rally were many white people who are divorced and who, nevertheless, claim to believe in God.” Stuff like that.
WTF??? Oh man, that’s so funny!!!
Best Tweet from the HillBuzzers:
“Democrats are in more trouble this fall than they could ever imagine.”
Indeed!
“Reclaim the Dream” by @TheRevAl was an insult to #MLK today. Repeating the word “honour” filled with so much anger serves no one.
Ok.. what Rally was Sharpton watching?
What could you be for if you are against the Restoring Honor rally?
I have no idea.. he has lost it.
Kind of funny, actually… the left has lost their minds and its on full display.
http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/08/al-sharptons-counter-freedom-rally-manages-to-attract-3000-in-dc/
Al Sharpton has 3k at his protest against honor.
Apparently Sharpton was watching his own rally. Has the man ever spoken without enormous anger, venom, and a “blame whitey” mentality? Ever?
Everyone knows Al Sharpton runs an extortion racket. More and more people are seeing it that way.
Let me tell you something about Al Sharpton.
Dr. Martin Luther King himself could have come back to life… or returned as a zombie, and given a thunderous speech right after his niece did today…
And Sharpton would have still called him a “sellout”!
Being a race hustler just ain’t like it used to be.
Bush probably had somethin’ to do widdit.
LOL! Of course it was all Bush’s fault. And I’m watching him on Geraldo right now doing his “yeah, but…” spin-a-roony “lalalallala-I can’t heeeeear you” mantra as Geraldo says “you have to admit that this was impressive, all that money raised for the families of veterans lost in the war – special forces” “Yeah, but we had veterans marching with us too.” Sad watching that old man try to wedge the Whites and Blacks into shame instead of celebrating what was done and said today. Dr. King was on too – and she said, in her and Glenn Beck’s defense, that you can’t take “the dream” from her…she is the dream and that she is the blood relative of 2 that died for the dream. Old Al got quieted up.
So Dr. King shut Al up? Great!
Yes, and he had the vaguest look of humiliation or embarrassment on his face. She schooled him good.
This is too hilarious to leave alone!
At C4P, someone posted this:
“A friend just emailed to say there are probably a couple hundred thousand people there already — which, after we run it through the MSM Tea Party Crowd Size Re-Estimator, comes to about 12,000.”
Heh!
I wonder what is going on for the boyz? Really want to hear from them in some way…they must be lost in that sea of humanity. The streets of DC must be a total zoo right now.
I don’t expect anything for a while. Weren’t they meeting up with Buzzers?
I know, I just hope that they’re okay.
And I wish that I were there! wah!
Also keep in mind what they explained about the cell phone system in a metropolitan area like this simply getting overloaded so that cell connections are literally not available.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t hear anything from them until after they back to their hotel tonight.
…and a “full treatment” probably not until next week sometime. There is so much going on this weekend–a once-in-a-lifetime event–you sure wouldn’t want to spend your time on a laptop, instead you want to really, fully BE THERE–talking with people and experiencing everything that’s going on to the absolute fullest! Meeting people, making connections, being blessed with one revelation after another–a life-changing weekend.
And then, there’s the logistics of getting home, the fatigue and exhaustion, the post-climactic letdown, just mentally PROCESSING everything, which takes a while, etc.
Like the weekend they met Sarah, let them take the time they need to do the job right–it’ll be worth waiting for!
I agree, take the time you need to write about your 8/28 experience.
Lord knows their wonderful experiences are worth the wait.
Also, Kevin’s battery ran out, so that plus the crammed cell lines. . .
We saw him safely onto the metro train taking him back to where he needed to go, so we know he made it that far.
But he hasn’t slept much lately, so he was totally knackered, and prolly passed out as soon as he got back to a bed.
Sweet dreams, Handsome!
I watched the Restoring Honor rally on Cspan. I’m not even a Beck fan, but that was just beautifully done. It was one of the best tributes to the memory of MLK that I have ever seen. There were people of all races standing in unity together. There were people cheering for black speakers, people allowing themselves to be lead in prayer by black pastors, people singing and waving their arms in the air, people shaking hands. It really was a beautiful tribute to what MLK stood for.
I am a Beck fan, and I complete agree with you.
I hear that Sharpton’s rally only attracted about 3,000. Too bad!
It was a positive, uplifting event. Anyone who criticizes it is a dumb partisan. yes it was definitely tea party people there of course, but the whole thing from the stage was nonpolitical. It was nice to be around so many likeminded people.
I saw some dim bulb interviewing MLK’s niece last night and asked her, “What do you think your uncle would think of you appearing at Beck’s rally?” …. She gave a nice answer, but I was so wishing she would give the reporter the screwed-up-face, puzzled look and say, “Excuse me?? This is exactly what he was working for. This kind of public event. This kind of America melting pot. He would give me a giant thumbs-up and ask if he might say a word to the crowd as well!”
Was that the interview on ABC Night Line? I was really aggravated by the reporter’s smug demeanor. God bless Dr.A. King for having the courage to speak her mind. Wonderful speech she gave today!
Yes, I believe it was Nightline. I seldom watch it, but had been out of the room and she was asking her the question just as I came back.
Yeah, that reporter was smuuuuggg. I wonder if it would ever occur to her how flat disrespectful she came across? She was plainly intimating that Rev. King’s niece wasn’t thinking straight and was really, really “screwing up her uncle’s memory.” The arrogance of these people is off the charts.
I’m tempted to comment to ABC about the reporter’s condescending attitude, but I doubt they’d care about what I have to say. I seldom go to their website, but, unfortunately, down here in rural Ms.,it’s the only TV channel we get, and I had just watched the local news.I’m glad that people are waking up. Wish I could have been there.
Take a look at the terrific overhead pic of the rally at lucianne.com (scroll down a little bit).
That picture looks like a lot more than 100K.
On another note, poor Sharpton. He got played and no one even showed up to console him.
It was. If it is true that the refl. pool area holds 200k, then by definition there were 300k there at LEAST. I saw it.
That’s GREAT! Thank you.
BTW, I think O’Reilly said he would quit his show if Beck got more than 100K to attend.
Bye-bye, Bill. I hope they replace him with Laura “Take no prisoners” Ingraham.
Felix:
I look forward to BOR keeping his side of the bargain.
What an arrogant guy.
That photo is not of today’s rally. I think it may have been the 9/12 rally last year.
How can you tell? They posted it today.
By the orientation of the pool, it appears to be taken from the Capitol Steps – as on 9-12, not from the Lincoln Memorial. The pool in the photo is in front of the Capitol Complex.
Yes, it’s an old shot.
Lucianne had it up first thing this morning.
Here’s today’s:
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc85/Mamba1-0/restoringhonor28_08_10.jpg
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc85/Mamba1-0/restore3.jpg
I don’t believe that is a photo of today’s rally. Look at it again. There are few leaves on the trees. Today’s rally hid lots of people in the beautiful shade of those lush GREEN trees today. In addition, that photo has kleig lights in the middle of all the mall areas. There were no kleig lights today. The standing area was filled with people, but no tall lights in the middle. I think that might be from an inauguration. Take a look at the links above to arial photos. The area was filled right through the WWII new memorial and to the Washington Memorial where the crowds thinned.
This maybe the last straw for me with Erick @ Redstate. His comments about Glenn Beck and the rally today are crap. I know the boyz have talked about him being a Romney guy; I think he’s gotten to big for his britches.
http://www.redstate.com/erick/2010/08/28/glenn-beck-day/
It’s good to see you checking in, TN WAHM. What is the update on your daughter? We are all still praying for you and for her.
Thanks for the prayers. She doesn’t have an obstruction, so no surgery. She’s feeling better and she’s been up for a couple walks. They have diagnosed her as having pneumonia which she may have had previous and may have contributed to her HUS. She’s trending upwards, but so far no more function from kidneys. That’s not unsual for HUS patients. HUS = hemolytic uremic syndrome
Wow, that sounds like a convoluted path of medical issues. It’s good to see you on here today. So glad to hear that she’s stable even she still has much to deal with.
My friend, who went into septic shock about four years ago, started out with pneumonia, and wouldn’t go to see the doctor. Well, he almost didn’t make it but, after dialysis for a couple of weeks, followed by physical therapy, he did recover.
I didn’t get that from his comments. Maybe I’ve had too much fresh air today
AP Breaking News: Dozens gather listening to hate mongering, Right Wing Extremist Glenn Beck.
Across town the honorable Reverend Al Sharpton draws a million people to hold hands in an event filled with humility and hope filled prayer.
Live reporting from….
….{{{{ bizzarro world }}}}
AP sounds a lot like one of the designers of the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. As we all know, it sank and the AP just might too with this kind of lying. Even people who don’t often pay attention eventually get exposed to the truth. May take awhile, but…
is that a joke or for real???
It was a great event and I was glad to be there. 300k at least I am pretty sure, if it is indeed true that the reflecting pool area holds about 200k.
I saw one really small, super lame protest group…DC ‘progressives’ that come out of the closet for any non-leftist rally.
Sharpton had 3000 at his rally. Hard to follow a tough act, huh, Al?
How long do you think it will take the MSM to credit him with 300,000 in attendance…just the “mistake” of a few zeros. (As was claimed by our local daily paper last fall: when the first Tea Party was held in our small town, there were over 750 in attendance. The newspaper reported it as 75 and later claimed it was a typo)
Sickening, isn’t it?
Though as I told my Mom today, there is NO WAY they can report this inaccurately and get away with it. IMO what we saw today was a miracle.
The MSM does like Zero, so what’s a few zeroes between friends?
Which actually means.. Sharpton had 300..
and most of those were paid SEIU thugs.
hehe
your stimulus $$ at work. Gosh, how many jobs were created or saved by Al’s rally???
Sharpton’s 3000…. betcha they were mostly one race, with a sprinkle of others. Now Beck’s rally was a TRUE “American Melting Pot”!!! What d’ya think? I have a sneaking hunch that there were more African American’s at Beck’s rally than were at Sharpton’s. I mean, not as percentage of the total attending, but just straight number of that race in attendance.
I believe that one of the major results of today’s activities, equal to the rally itself, will be all of the connections made between individuals, families, etc. whether based on group interest, state of residence or political affiliation (like independents and democrats finding each other today and agreeing to stay in contact to fight those in power who apparently don’t much like the United States). I think this second wave, aside from the events, is a significant source of power for the weeks and months that are ahead of us.
I’m still thinking about this: but I’m beginning to consider if DH and I may start giving either gift certificates or the product itself as wedding gift(s) of an American flag and a heavy-duty pole to fly it on.
Have you ever ordered a flag, through your Senator, that has been flown over the Capitol? I did that once as a birthday gift. The flags aren’t very expensive, and are of very good quality; mine is by Valley Forge. You get a certificate with the flag, signed by the Architect of the Capitol. The one I got says: This is to certify that the accompanying flag was flown over the US Capitol on June 21, 2006 at the request of the Honorable Carl Levin, US Senator. This flag was flown for ____________ on the occasion of your birthday.
Good suggestion!
We have one that was flown over the Capitol for the 80th birthday of my grandfather (WWII purple heart.
Emma,
I think you’re absolutely right about the “second wave”–that’s really the goal and the most important part of an event like this–and surely we can be confident that it’ll happen. All those people haven’t traveled all those miles for nothing!
My DH had one flown over the Capitol for my birthday. He called our congressman, a D, and had it done. When it arrived, it had the wrong date on it! We had a good laugh about it and I had a great time calling them to tell them about it. I wanted to know if the certificate was wrong, or was the flag flown on the wrong date? “Huh?” Sigh. And THAT is one of the reasons he will be voted out this November. He voted for cap and trade and wouldn’t commit to voting against the H Care “reform” until Nancy gave him the go ahead when she didn’t “need” his vote. And worse for him, his supporters supported a petition to run a “tea party” candidate against the R. When the petition was published, it turns out that some of the congressmen’s largest supporters had signed the petition, it hit the papers as a “dirty trick”. Ha! Buh-Bye!
I’m beginning to feel like Kevin and the Boyz when they refused to date or have conservative friends. I’m getting to the point where I can’t have Obama friends. It’s too painful. I posted that I was watching the Restoring Honor rally on FB status and got ripped a new one. Then got ripped another new one for responding back. I had one good friend un-friend me, just because of my status.
I’m finding that the worse the economy gets, the worse O’s approval gets, the more strained my friendships get. It stinks.
Wish I was at the Buzz gathering right now with politically like-minded people. I’d have some cheese and crackers with my whine.
Me too.
I use to like to read opposing views.
I dont care anymore. I have heard all I ever care to hear from libs.
I could never date a lib. Ever.
Oh hell, me either. I honestly believe it is a form of mental disorder. My DH hates Sarah (though he is pretty conservative) but I’m stuck with him since we were together before she came onto the national scene.
What’s his objection to her? I’m always interested to know.
Seems that, with most folks, it’s just that the media overwhelmed them early on with the “stupid” meme, and it’s put her totally and permanently out-of-bounds.
@ Kathy:
That’s exactly it. He says she “can’t speak well” and that “she’s dumb”. He doesn’t actually follow her, just what the LSM says about her. We have had raging fights over this…he also has an objection to her being pretty though he doesn’t phrase it quite that way. In short, he has no back up for his opinion. You would think living with a smart, good looking woman like myself for all these years would make him glad to see another one come along.
me either! divorced an oppressive a few years ago. Married him during my “apolitical” stage and realized too late that one’s politics are much farther reaching than just “politics”. In other words, the belief system that leads one to be an oppressive permeates his thought processes …. and, needless to say, it was the exact opposite of my own beliefs – and this became obvious in every aspect of our lives
I know what you mean, MRM. When I was younger, I was much more interested in SEX, and not so interested in politics. In my case, my how things change as time marches on!
I am fortunate in that my libby friends are still civil…but I feel your pain.
You know how it goes:
“Say what you mean, and mean what you say because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” – Dr. Seuss
Now THAT is a tshirt.
Try to take a deep breath, and smile for a moment. You are not alone. I’m with you at the pity-party. My neighbors and even children look at me like I’m a crazed lady when I take my conservative values out of the cupboard for all to see. And of course they tsk-tsk when I watch Beck or mention Palin. (They don’t know what they’re missing.)
I survive-not well always because of my sons’ attitudes-but survive nevertheless in the knowledge that If things don’t change for the better soon, they might wind up having to tell me that I was right after all.
We should have T shirts made up with a crazed woman on the front screaming “OH MY GOD, SARAH WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!!” We’d make a bazillion dollars, and I have a few family members I’d like to give them to, because they are coming around…painfully slow but admitting that they voted for the WRONG person.
that’s hilarious! great visual
It has been that way for me since the election. I refuse to deal with liberals on any level,,,liberalism is really a mental disorder and rational thought is not one of their strengths. I look at it as being closely akin to the Civil War. I know what side I am on and if it means “losing” family or friends, so be it. It has happened before, but with more blood,,so far.
The “Civil War” really wasn’t one. It was a war of secession, a war between North and South, the War Between the States. A geographical line separated the two foes.
A genuine “civil war” does not have such geographical lines. It is not region against region or state against state. It’s not even city against city. Think Spanish Civil War or French Revolution–the dividing lines go right through communities and even right through families. In a true civil war, next-door neighbors can be blood enemies.
Yes, but there was that split between families in the civil war, too.
Kelly, I feel your pain. Like the boyz, I was a staunch Democrat for 30 plus years, a Hillary supporter during the primaries and had my eyes opened wide during that time by my thuggish Party. When I refused to vote for Obama and actually voted Republican, it was suggested to me by my closest friend of many years that maybe I was just a little bit racist, even though I have had AA friends for years, have voted for AA politicians before, my children have AA friends who have stayed overnight many nights in my home and that I’ve treated like my own children, etc. I just had to break off the friendship after that, along with others who just wouldn’t give up chastising me every time I was around them. My mind is at peace now – I’ve found like-minded other friends and truly believe I did the right thing because I know I was right about Obama not being good for our country.
Winston Churchill once said: “If you’re under 40 and not a Liberal, you have no heart. If you’re over 40, and not a Conservative, you have no brain.” I just think that I finally grew up!
calsteel:
I can empathize with you. I have a female family member who is rabidly liberal and doesn’t like people who are repubs or conservative. If you keep your mouth shut around her you can escape her wrath, but it colors everything she does and everybody she deals with – even family. I feel horrible for her, her mind has been poisoned. I feel like I’ve lost a friend.
Sorry to hear that. I had an aha moment while vacationing with an old friend that I knew was liberal. The more I truly listened to her position on a wide variety of things, the less I realized I actually had in common with her. We are just wired differently.
That’s my conclusion with friends and even family members. . .they are truly just wired differently. It took me a long, long time to realize that.
I think this is the reason Glenn Beck can speak to so many different kinds of people–Christians, Jews, agnostics: Despite their differing religious beliefs, if they have personal humility and genuine respect for other people as equals, there is common ground.
Liberals, on the other hand, just KNOW they are right and everyone else is wrong–they are so SURE of it! Obviously, there’s no humility in that–and no respect for other people as persons, whose views deserve at least a thoughtful hearing.
You gotta hang around some better people! Have some confidence. We all found out today that we outnumber them!
I put all my Lib friends and relatives on HIDE on FB. I can seek them out at will, but they don’t see my daily stuff.
It works.
That’s a really good idea
Not me. I post conservative stuff just to annoy them. And it works so well I had one lady un-friend me just so she wouldn’t have to see the links (which she even bothered to never read). How delicate ARE these people, anyway?!
that would be “never even bothered to read.” I really should read stuff before I hit “enter.”
VERY delicate. I have had about five HS friends “un-friend me.” The funny thing is, is that these so called friends never engaged in the political conversations nor did they message me about why they did it.
Pretty cowardly if you ask me.
I could be wrong, but I think “hide” just means you don’t see them – not the reverse.
LOL! OK, then I hope they hide me in return
You can, however, change your privacy settings to exclude certain people from seeing various parts of your profile – like your pages or photos, etc. (I think – unless FB has taken that option away)
I think MRM is right! The problem I have is some of the rellies are people I love and want to get along with in all ways other than politics. Of course, there are conservatives in the family too, and we have just more or less kept our thoughts to ourselves and ignored the lib posts. I mean, when it is your child, sister, niece or nephew, it is a problem. As my cousin says, she witnesses by her actions and attitudes, rather than her words.
One of the guys I work with is a big govt, greenie lib. My boss sent him one of those e-mails with a lot of satirical constitutional themes and he got honestly insulted. Libs DO NOT have a sense of humor. I can happily watch SNL, Jon Stewart, and Colbert without getting all bent out of shape over their satire. It’s hard to be friends with folks who take their misery so seriously.
Oh AMEN to that one!
If you’ve got a good joke, I’ll appreciate it, even if it skewers one of my sacred cows. Problem is, most libs don’t have a sense of humour unless it’s attacking SOMEONE ELSE.
Self depricating humour is the sign of a healthy ego. The inability to engage in it is a sign of fragility.
I only complain if it’s stale or lame.
I have several former “friends” and this was before he was even elected.. Called me a bad mother for not supporting him. Who’s the bad mother now??????
What a stupid thing for anyone to say to you! What do your skills as a mother have to do with O-blame-a?
I am continually surprised by the stupidity of some people.
I lost a good friend JUST BECAUSE I was working on the Scott Brown Campaign. Since then, and this site, I’ve become much more aware of just how dangerous and bad the left is, and have since concluded, I have ZERO tolerance for anyone who can still be a dem, or like Obama after what we’ve seen the past year. ZERO tolerance.
That’s my attitude too. Middle of the road OK… but rabid liberal. No thanks.
I went on Facebook today and that was really a mistake. A few cousins and friends live in DC and one of them went off about “If there’s no diversity, it’s not for me. Glen Beck = humanity fail”. I asked if she had seen any of the rally.
I would hate to be unfriended, but there it is.
In the design/video field it’s pretty much all liberal… I remember being out on a shoot right after the election (as a grip/mic holder, since I’m not really trained in video but design, since my old job did both services) and the assistant producer (whom I got along with well) was saying that he couldn’t believe what kind of horrible racist person would have voted for McCain, etc. etc…. and I looked back at him and was like, “Wow, I didn’t know I was a horrible racist.” He kind of sputtered a bit and was like, “You!? Well ah…. I didn’t mean YOU…”
Tee hee.
I’m glad you pointed that out to him. We shouldn’t be afraid how others react to our beliefs. Indeed, there are a lot of us out there, and if someone decides to cut you off over your beliefs, I’m have no doubt that there are others out there who are waiting in the wings to take their places.
We were watching it on Cspan while we ate this noon. My 86 year old mom commented on the number of African Americans who were there. If ANYTHING will blow up the heads of the leftists, that would. They were, I am sure, expecting this to be a “whites only” crowd, mainly female. I think, based on what I saw on tv and on facebook, that it was racially, and sexually, mixed. The thoughts of those who were there? Was this a “melting pot” of Americans like it seemed to me?
I’m sure it was. And it will blow the libbys minds that people of ALL faiths, colors and orientation stood together to honor our heroes and turn this country back towards it’s founding principles.
Somehow, I think anyone that isn’t a WASP will be discounted as an “Uncle Tom” or something similar, or they will say “Yeah, but it was MOSTLY white!!!” (Kinda like the demographics of our country???? Nah, apparently to be legit a protest has to have Affirmative Action!)
there were a lot of asians there as well…
I’m asian…. I saw vietnamese, filiapinos, indians, etc…. many…
Betcha there were more blacks at Glenn’s rally than at Sharptons!
Best laugh I’ve had today!
hah! that’s funny! and probably true!
I live in DC, and had the joy and honor of attending the rally… then I went to visit an elderly friend who’s blind and deaf to share my experiences with him … afterwards, I sat on a bench by a subway stop and watched the Sharpton rally folks as the dispersed …. what a sad, rough looking, rag-tag lot they were … lots of SEIU purple, foul mouthed youth, nary a US flag to be seen, and sufficiently rowdy to require more than a bit of police presence … a sad comparison with our group …
I saw black people, and there were a lot on stage. Whatever….it’s so stupid to call this group racist. Look, most blacks vote liberal Democrat. This is a conservative/libertarian group generally, so obviously it doesn’t appeal to that demographic. Period!
I see black people…
Sorry, couldn’t resist. Point well made.
And that demographic has been wrongly taught that MLK was a democrat.
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=16500
I saw people of all races…..it just is so stupid to say, oh this group is racist because there aren’t black people. Well, not that many Baptists show up at a gay pride parade. They aren’t interested in the topic. And your point is?
I think there’s a misunderstanding.
I agree with you.
The demographic I thought you were referring to was the democrats who believe MLK was also a democrat.
Read my link, you’ll agree.
5 O’oclock news on channel 4
86,000 people – mostly all white
*LOL* Clearly they didn’t even look at the overhead shot.
I’m sure they did, which makes their need to LIE about what’s really going on in this world all the more scary.
86,000? Not 85, or “upwards of 80?” So odd to give a perceived counted actual number, eh? You should email them and ask them if anyone there has ever taken a spacial course in architecture…or a surveyors’ course in anything?
They forgot that darn zero again… it should have read 860,000
Just for fun I went to HuffPo (yes, I’ve sanitized my hands before typing) … it is every bit as predictable as you can imagine. You could write the story and the comments. And it’s not the headline story either but it has over 17000 comments. Losers…
Ha! I didn’t even think of going over there…now I have to. I love messing with them.
Nice to know their heads are exploding, and the astroturf trolls have work.
I’m having a fun little debate over at the Detroit Free Press. Not much competition; I’m getting bored. And they call us mind numbed robots.
Are you cliff-detroit?
No, I’m FerdaleStella. Who are you?
I don’t post very often on the Freep, but couldn’t resist yesterday.
I sat with people from Florida, Alabama, Ohio, Georgia, Tennessee and Wisconsin. I was on the left side facing the Memorial to the left of the first jumbotron. I got there around 8:30 this morning, and admittance to some sections were already closed because there were too many people. Around me were folks of all ages. There were a lot of young people and a lot of veterans. There was a lot of Sarah Palin love among the people where I sat.
It was a very moving experience, and I am so glad I went. Sarah Palin, Dr. King and Glenn Beck all shared wonderful messages. Based upon the areas that were filled, and the park service estimates of the number of people the various areas held, the crowd had to be in excess of 500,000.
Guys…I am so sorry we couldn’t meet up. Our bus was supposed to leave at 4 so we didn’t have much time after the event. And if I didn’t go get some souvenirs for the other kids, I would not have been allowed to come home. Plus, my daughter wanted to go see the archives and other sites.
Did any of you see the group of African Americans marching up and down Constitution chanting things like “we want freedom” and “don’t we look good” (seriously, that is what they were chanting). I thought it was some middle school rally at first. I could only surmize they were hoping to instigate some reaction of the Restor Honor folks. We just stood there and smiled at them. TONS of cameras were out though filming them. So silly.
Again…sorry guys! Hope you had fun!
“don’t we look good”??? I’m just not sure what to make of this. Scratching my head . . .
Provided they aren’t dressed like Michelle Obama, they might look good… sorry, couldn’t resist!
I couldn’t figure it out either…I really truly believe they were just there in hopes to instigate something. MY husband said he heard Sharpton telling people to ignore the taunts they will get…uh, hello…they got NO taunts…I swear every person at the RH rally was nothing but pleasant and accommodating. One of the ladies on our bus said that where she sat at the rally there was a guy with a huge cooler full of water and soads who was giving them away to anyone who asked for one. You think there was anyone like that at the Sharpton rally? Ha.
Hopefully the spam catcher will relax the ban it has had on me all day.
Media coverage has been all over the place. Fox has been lukewarm, Drudge has posted nothing today (except murders in Mexico and Paris Hilton’s drug arrest – thanks Matt!)
But what has my jaw dropping is the New York Times (see, I didn’t even say ‘slimes’). After a snarky initial report this morning, they posted a surprisingly even-handed report this afternoon. Actually admitted that ‘organizers of the event’ put the attendance up to 500,000.

a beautiful little girl…. with the American flag in her hand.
Dr. King would be proud, every proud of all these patriots.
there are 75 pictures on that link… but that one I thought was so touching.
I agree. She and our flag make a lovely duo.
Well, I was wrong. I’ll give it one more try and quit. What have I done wrong???

Oh and no way was there any less than 500,000. This manfrom california thought it was over a million. Not sure about that. But there were definitely at least two NASCAR races full of people and each race usually holds around 200K.
My estimate is around 500k. I’ve seen the overhead shot, and if it is true that 200k fit around the reflecting pool, it has to be 500k or more.
Sarah Palin sure looked presidential on that stage. That crisp white and black really suited her. I loved the way she stayed for the whole event, sat in that heat, and still looked just as calm, cool, and collected, as when she began.
Seriously, that’s a sign of real leadership. I would have ended up looking like a wilted cabbage, LOL. She has real grace.
Haha… me too.. my hair would have been huge..make up would be gone…
She looked perfect..
my hose would have been ripped to shreads.. something would be in my teeth… a zit would have developed on my nose…
Oh honey…I’ve got the big hair too…plus I don’t travel well. I can start a journey looking fresh as a daisy and by the time I reach my destination…I look like Bill the Cat.
I felt there was presidential positioning there, Cspan zeroed in on her right when Amazing Grace was playing, she was by herself, side view, wiped a tear away.. Very good visual…
SP 2012
i noticed that, too, pointed it out to my husband.
I don’t believe any Christian – or indeed anybody with experience with the hymn – could fail to shed a tear at “Amazing Grace.”
oh yeah, those bagpipes do it to me every time !!!
Sarah was perfect today.
I loved everything about her appearance, but particularly when she said, right at the beginning, something to the effect, “I’m not here today as a politician…”
I thought that was a very savvy thing to do because anybody slamming her by trying to claim that she hijacked the rally and made a ‘campaign speech’ will look very foolish.
I’ve never seen her look more beautiful or poised.
The hate-filled Libtards must be just choking on their rage.
She let her servant’s heart be seen — just as in that interview earlier this week when she said she would be honored to tie up Allen West and the other veteran-candidate’s boots.
And yes she looked beautiful.
*LOL* Sorry ….. I read “she would be honored to tie up Allen West” and started laughing. Yep, I’ll bet a lot of Dems feel that way, too!
Good bless our troops and our veterans.
Here, Bijou. Don’t say I never gave ya nothin’.
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc85/Mamba1-0/Sarah28_08_10.jpg
Awwwwww…Solaratov, thanks HEAPS!!!
That is a STUNNING photo of our Sarah!
(A couple of the pipers aren’t too shabby, either, wink, wink, nudge, nudge!)
And, NO, I won’t ever say ya never gave me nothin’, neither! LOL!
BOYS! It is 6:00 pm Sat. in DC. Is anyone meeting up?
Better check your watch!!!
An hour off. Oops.
Anyone heard anything from Chrissy?
I was watching a bit of Sharpton’s “demonstration” (that’s what they called it) with that “No Justice, No Peace” banner behind the podium. The host was arrogant and often promoting himself. At one point he actually poked the crowd with “hey, I see the folks who rolled out of bed at noon are finally starting to arrive”. It was very sad. The crowd seemed small and unethusiastic. I honestly thought they might boo some of the speakers – there was definitely hesitant or NO applause for many – including the La Raza speaker. What were they doing there, anyway?
“At one point he actually poked the crowd with “hey, I see the folks who rolled out of bed at noon are finally starting to arrive””
:-0
Even he realizes the quality of the people rallying behind him. Go figure.
well, those unemployment checks arrive no matter what time you get up!
C’mon folks we’ve gotta just laugh sometimes at liberals:
“The damn teabaggers and right wing Beckheads had the nerve to plant people in the crowd with trash bags coordinating cleaning up after themselves. Typical conservative selfishness that stops the union park service from work and earning a living. What right to they have to take jobs from the hard working men and women in DC. Their selfish, self-centered, and malicious manners make me sick.”
“Did you see that place after.? How unfair. at least our people had the courtesy to provide more clean up jobs and work after the inauguration. And conservatives claim to be better at creating jobs. Ha! Maybe now their real agenda will be exposed.”
**How horrid of those conservative folks. Oh my**
Well predictably the AP chooses to focus on the race of the people attending the rally today. Aka: “the predominately white crowd”, and they tried to make a nonpolitical event political. Shameful as always.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_dc_rally
You could say that about most huge crowds, including the Inauguration.
Wow, talk about misreporting! It’s an article about the tea party, not the Restoring Honor rally. None of the quotes from Beck or Palin have anything to do with politics, yet these hacks interpreted it to be political anyway.
I hate our media.
Ten, the AP is not our media. They belong to the left in mind and soul. They can’t do any better than they do because they are brainwashed tools of marxism. WE are our media. Eyes on the prize and boots on the ground. We have to depend on those doing the research for us to get the truth.
At this point the media is our enemy.
I watched a bit of al sharpton’s rally…did not see one person who wasn’t black. Have not heard mention of that.
Last I heard, the USA was 75% white… duh
The rally was wonderful. Estimating the crowd is difficult but if you think about a large football stadium holding 100,000 and try and superimpose that image on the crowd I have to believe there were more than 5 stadiums full of people there. We were under the trees about halfway down the mall. We were packed in so solidly from the reflecting pool to the sidewald no one could walk through. The sidewalk packed after the rally started and then the crown moved to the upper section of lawn in the full sun. It was packed from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial all the way past the WWII Memorial. The crowd thinned out up the hill to the Washington Memorial and around the backside.
Met Kevin and other posters after the rally and had a great visit. It was just great meeting everyone. What a beautiful day. I’m exhausted but in the best way. What a way to kick off the pre-election season…Dem’s must be sweating. This had to be their worst nightmare. Especially when Rev. Al could only draw a handful for his counter rally….wow, just wow!
downtowngirl, thanks again for keeping us in the loop. Great job!
That is just so fabulous that you got to meet Kevin and some other Buzzzers!! Wow!
We all enjoyed the whole event vicariously, thanks to Glenn’s site and C-Span, and this thread, of course.
Have a safe trip home!
I’m so glad you got to meet Kevin and the others! I hope he knows that however many hugs and smiles he got from those who made it can be multiplied by at least a few thousand for all of us who couldn’t be there. I think it has help him in his heart and thoughts to actually gets some face to face contact with distant Buzzers! Thank you for being there.
I agree, Emma.
I think that personal contact will be very encouraging for him.
I was there. If it is true that 200k fit around the reflecting pool, I can say with confidence that 500k were there. I’ve seen the overhead shot.
I got halfway down the reflecting pool on the right side under the trees, next to the portable toilets. People told me to turn around, it was so packed down by Lincoln you couldn’t breath.
Oh I hope you hugged Kevin soooo hard for all of us!!!
I don’t write nearly as well as the boys, but if you are interested I have posted my on the ground report. I didn’t go into the speakers so much, more about the people that I met.
It was a fun day. I didn’t get the chance to go over and meet the boys, because I had to get the kiddies home. Sorry, that I missed you boys!!
Where is your report posted? (Don’t worry about not writing “like the boyz”…! Any shared information is like family photos and we’ll love it.
Emma, just lick on her ‘handle’.
It links straight to her blog.
thanks…on my way there now
http://912member.blogspot.com
I also think you can just hit my name and link will come up.
I went to your blog and read your wonderful report. You are right: the real message is in the people who were there: that is the real strength of this country.
Thanks for your report!
Pics are great – especially the one of the “Jane Fonda” sign.
Awesome! I love the pics!
Neat site. I added you to my favorites.
btw, I used to live in No.Virginia until I moved to Missouri.
A Missourian!
So are you near St. Louis and involved with Jim Hoft, Dana Loesch and all the rest of the awesome St. Louis Tea Party folks?
Or are you nearer Kansas City, home of Nice Deb and a bunch of other great patriots?
I’m about 90 miles south of St.Louis. And, while I’ve exchanged emails with Jim, we haven’t ever been able to meet. One of these days, I’m going to arrange to just make a trip to StL to meet him and the gang.
(I’m going to have to do the same thing with the Boyz.)
btw, It’s nice to see you posting here as well as G.P. Isn’t it neat how Conservatives seem to find each other?
I liked your report and your photos…..and the little naughty thing you did. Good for you.
I’m going back to read it now. I let my husband read it first cause he just got into this today and is hungry for info. He said it was EXCELLENT. I can’t wait to find out what the naughty thing was!
Verdict is in. Your site is awsome, and the post about the rally is the closest thing to being there we have gotten for us who couldn’t attend and are starved for info. The para of all the different places people came from gave me chills. good chills if that’s possible. Thank you so much for the post.
Love it; what you did.
“The media was interviewing some of the black people who were there and asking the same old boring questions about racism and The Tea Party. I couldn’t help myself; I went up and put my arm around the guy (whom I have never met) and gave him a peck on the cheek and told the reporter that I love this man’s courage for standing by his convictions. I looked at the reporter and said let the racism go, it is long since gotten old.” – conservative girl.
I haven’t had time to work through the various reports from the event, but I did watch SP’s speech over at C4P. How impressive she was!
When people have reports of the Hill Buzz meetup I’ll be so eager to read them too.
Oh, one thing you can also say to those racist comments, I will tell you who got the biggest response from the crowd was Alveida King. The crowd went crazy when she came on.
She is an AMAZING lady. Check out this little bio blurb about her:
http://www.priestsforlife.org/staff/alvedaking.htm
I am a long-time supporter of Priests for Life, and when Alveda came on board, that was the first time I’d heard of her. I was intrigued with her for 3 reasons:
1) She’s not Catholic herself, yet she’s one of the top administrators in a very Catholic pro-life organization. She works directly with Priests for Life founder Fr. Frank Pavone.
2) She’s head of African-American outreach for PFL–i.e., she sees the Ugly Fact that most people don’t even realize: the NUMBER ONE killer of black people in America is abortion. Black women have abortions at three or four times the rate of white women–largely at Planned Parenthood facilities. The founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, was a racist eugenicist who wanted to eliminate black people.
3) She is one of those brave, healed women who came to regret her abortions and has the courage and generosity to speak publicly about it, to try to save other women from making the same mistake. She’s very involved with that amazing group, http://www.silentnomoreawareness.org.
As you see in the bio, she’s very accomplished in many, many areas, including law, public office and the performing arts. But it’s those three things above that endear her to me. It’s those three things that reveal what a stereotype-busting, thinking-outside-the-box, spirit-filled person she really is.
I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time–and am ecstatic that, thanks to this rally today, untold millions of other people now know who she is as well. God bless Dr. Alveda King!!!
Well, my LONG comment couldn’t get past the spam filter, so here’s a short version. Go see the short bio of her at
http://www.priestsforlife.org/staff/alvedaking.htm
She is truly an amazing, outside-the-box woman. I’ve been a fan of hers for years–and am thrilled beyond words to know that now, thanks to this rally, untold millions more people have now been introduced to her!
Woo-hoo!
Drudge has flooded the whole top half of his site with ‘rally-related’ headlines.
(Even a swipe at the piss-poor turnout at Revrum Sharpton’s non-event! LOL!)
Also photos showing the massive crowd in attendance, which is damned impressive, and a nice pic of Glenn.
Main headline: “Beck has a Dream.”
Awesome exposure. Thanks, Matt!
who is Matt?
Matt Drudge
oh ok! sorry… didn’t know that…
OMG.. too funny.
I check in on a Catholic site. LIBS are freakin’ out.. questioning who paid for all the buses… it is hilarious.
I CANT WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER!!!!!!
as someone who used to be left… the reason libs think this is b/c they always get their money from govt or someone else, and so are confused where the moeny is comning from?
they don’t realise people who earn a living do earn that money and use it as they feel appropiate and according to their own choice.
That’s the same reasoning that’s behind pelosi’s call for an investigation into “who’s behind the resistance to the mosque”.
It never, ever, seems to dawn on leftists that we don’t *need* someone in the background pulling our strings and telling us what to say or how to act. That’s the way they are – so they figure Conservatives are the same.
Independent thought is not the leftists’ long suit.
You really should go back to the site and tell them that you heard through the grapevine that SEIU paid for the busses. Betcha that would knot up their knickers!
HAHAHAAHA too funny!
Or that BO gave it to them out of his ‘stash’.
Hilariously naughty of you!!! Hahahah. Or you could tell them the Mormon’s sent them. Or even that the Pope paid for them. Talk about heads exploding!
“who paid for all the buses” too freaking funny! Amazing the people got to DC and paid their own way, how is that possible they did not need the government’s help? LMAORO
Who paid the way for the guy and his Dad from Australia I met at the Vienna, VA metro station today????
HAHAHA.. yes, inquiring minds want to know.
Australia?!?!
WOW.
Kind of humbling to realize how much the fate of this “city on a hill” really does matter to the rest of the world.
I guess I can relate, because that’s the way I feel about Israel. Never been there, probably never will, but I keep up with what’s going on there as if it were part of my own country–that’s just how important Israel and its values, what it stands for, really are in the world.
I know that lots of folks around the world look to the USA the same way. Oppressed, freedom-seeking people have always wanted to come here. What happens if the world’s haven of freedom is no longer free?????
It’s really so easy to drive these people crazy.
and it’s such a short drive!!
LOL, MRM! Reminds me of my dad who used to say it’s a “drive ’round the corner.”
Maybe that was the problem with sharpton’s march: nobody would pay for the busses! And leftists won’t pay their own way. They wait for that handout.
No handout = no turnout.
LOL!
and probably true!
I would write:
“Shhh, it’s okay. Seriously, there was no big conservative rally honey and there are no monsters under your bed going to show up at the polling places in November. Here’s your hot milk and your Xanax. Everything is going to be oooh-kaaaaay”
love it
Perfect!
I think its hilarious that the lunatic left doesn’t realise how many former dems like me loathe them…and get along more with conservatives (even if we disagree on some issues)
hee hee… I don’t even get offended anymore… its just hilarious to me…
look at us, conservatives, former dems, indpendents… all comning together to make fun of the radical lunatic left… LOL…
I know.. it makes me laugh now.
A year ago.. I was so angry.. now I just smile at the ass whooping headed their way.
There is no legitimate discussion.. NONE.. its all just hate filled lunacy.
Each time I hear the Tea Party accused of racism, fear-mongering, irrationality, and the like, I come to loathe the donkeys just a bit more.
next time you get a prepaid DNC donation request, mail them back a receipt of a donation to Sarah Palin or the Tea Party, etc
I do, hmmm… maybe that’s why the DNC hasn’t sent me any pre-paid donation requests for a while.
I would do so — or include some other choice token of my esteem — but I’ve never received any such request by post or telephone in my life. Go figure …
I remember very clearly that last year, they were mocking and ridiculing tea parties. And then when it became clear last summer it was a SERIOUS threat to the status quo, the media brought out the knives. They are vile scum.
Throw me in the mix, too. If you had predicted in 2008 that in 2010 I would be addicted (yes, I did say addicted) to a gay website, I would have told you that you were nuts.
Hillbuzz is like the coffee shop of days of old where all different walks of people plopped down and just talked, only today we let our fingers do the typing. Thank you Kevin and Boyz for making Hillbuzz a very special kind of place. It is a diamond in the rough and tumble world of blogs.
I’m so delighted that all five Boyz got to go to Washington, D.C. They will treasure this memory for a long, long time. They have earned it.
That’s the truth!! Who’d a thunk it.
Me Too!!! I consider you guys part of my day. Now, even my husband is reading some.
I never had an issue with gayness, but yeah, if you told me 5 yrs ago I would be fans of HILLARY FANS, I’d say you’re crazy!
I still think your faith in hillary is misplaced, but that is an argument for another day. We need to lift the radical leftist plague that is cursing us, and we can discuss hillary later. God bless.
ditto jmp
I’m with you guys.
Amen and dittos to all of the above!
for the record, I still respect Hillary, but do not support her [or ANY dems], and while I campaigned, donated to her campaign in 2008.
I will not do so if she runs again.
I have realised my ideas are conservative, I am not a social conserative, but I am a Constitutional conservative Independent now.
Perhaps I always was one, and it took a radical lefty to make me and other former dems realise that.
if you read the Hillbuzz backstory on Hillary, I think you will see distinctions that while they still honor her as their friend, they would not support her politically. I sure hope I’m not distorting their point of view. I would encourage you to read items they’ve published on this. They should be findable in the archives. They have gone to great lengths to make themselves clear and have done so with a great deal of personal pain (and wisdom).
Emma, I think that is right.
Kevin always says they were really impressed with her ‘as a person’, which is why they worked their guts out for her.
I think they have finally come to realize that her politics truly suck.
Emma –
thanks
I’ve been reading and commenting on hillbuzz since 2008 (before it ever attracted conservatives), trust me when I say there are many many disaffected former dems like me…
but thank you for your suggestion.
(you will not believe the Obots that used to come and go after moderate/centerist Hillary dems here on HillBuzz)
Ah, you’re gracious to me! Obviously, you were here before I was. (I meant well!)
I truly can’t imagine the nasty ride that many of you had to endure, and again will acknowledge that those of us coming from the conservative/republican side of things appreciate so much the utterly gracious welcome we have had here at Hillbuzz.
It has meant so much to us to not have to continue “automatically bowing” to everything republican and to be able to learn without party id being so blasted sacred!
Hillbuzz’s beliefs have slowly, but surely changed since 2008. Kevin has picked up the conservative mantra somewhat, which is fine with me. Even being a Democrat, I despised the far left more than any other political group. Always have, and probably always will. I have never thought of them as being patriotic. They are always looking for faults, and never expressing admiration for anything other than their warped sense of self.
I was commenting on the Detroit Free Press website earlier and I was wondering why these ‘progressives’ (not!) are so nasty. It seems the tactic is never to discuss anything, or put forth facts, just personal attacks, profanity, and general unpleasantness. I can’t take that for long. It’s too much of a downer to think that I share the public with people like this.
Ditto. And what really gets me are all the leftists with very high IQs, who really should know better. They have the brain capacity to do some deep thinking–but they just don’t.
I don’t like it, but I can SEE WHY the people who are addicted to government handouts defend Obama and the far-left so vehemently.
What’s harder for me personally is the college professors, editorial writers, people with master’s degrees and PhDs, who are leftist mostly just because all the other “cool”, “hip”, “in-the-know”, “with-it”, “intelligent”, “cultured” people are. A bunch of hoity-toity smarter-than-thou’s…who think and act like nothing more than a bunch of dumb, stupid sheep!
It would be hilarious–if it didn’t have such utterly disastrous consequences for us all.
Kathy from Kansas ~~
I meant to post this for you a while back at G.P., but don’t remember if I ever did or not. I thought that you’d like it.
http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc85/Mamba1-0/hand_of_hope.jpg
It was exactly that way when Reagan was running in 1980. D’s left the party in droves. And they stayed with him through the ’84 race too. Then many went Indy. If I’m right, in 2012, it will be similar.
Well said! Frankly, I would love to oust the progressive/left/socialist element from the Democratic party and return it to its traditional form … I’m a conservative Republican, and I miss having a genuine Democratic party with genuine opposing views …
So true. I’m a conservative as well, and I’ve had to tell my daughters about the Democratic Party that used to be…different views, sure, but always up for the debate…the friendly debate. I don’t know who these current people are. They are not the Democrats I grew up with, and heaven help us.
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/jeff-poor/2010/08/28/amateur-hour-cnn-error-filled-chyron-during-beck-rally
Funny.. Amateur hour at CNN covering Beck rally.
ABC (on Google) is estimating crowd size at 86,000.
you do realise Google deliberately lied about where the rally was today right??
I read about it this morning. I was just curious to see what different news outlets were saying about crowd size, and ABC is doing its best to downplay it. Even NBC estimates 300,000 or more.
A numbers primer for media reporting crowd size:
If it is a liberal or left gathering subtract the number they report by half. That means Sharpton gathered about 1500. (And you can bet the venue will be trashed when they leave.)
If it is a right or Tea Party gathering, take what they report and double it. So if they are reporting 300,000, then the crowd is roughly 600,000 (and the venue will be clean when they leave).
Just some observations from one who has been following these sorts of things.
Did you hear Sharpton when he was instructing the people how to line up to prepare the ‘march’ to the site of the ML King memorial. He told them not to crowd together so that the size of the crowd wouldn’t be ‘underreported’
LOL! Now THAT is funny! In their dreams.
that is total bullshit. There were 500,000 there.
ABC (on Google) is estimating crowd size at 86,000.
Perhaps that was the number of people who Googled the location today.
Wow. Even the liberal NYT seems to report this one down the middle. The size of the turnout must have them a little jittery.

Alveda King needs our help.
She is taking a lot of heat from the left for speaking at Glenn’s rally.
I read the NAACP told her not to do it.
crazy.
Like they own her? Sheesh.
More like they think that they own MLK.
whatever. good grief – what is wrong with these people? (and yes, I realize I ask that question like, every day)
Why wouldn’t they think they own her? They think they own MLK too!
The dems fought against MLK,…
and today they are still at it.
I put the article on my fb page to let others see who the real racist are and to support Alveda King. I am so ashame of how the so-called black leaders are demeaning all the progress MLK made during and after his death. These are the real racist individuals. They do not want equal rights for everyone….they make money off of the poor. The truth is finally coming out for who the real bigots are…
That’s what I was telling my husband tonight. Racism is a billion dollar industry, they must keep it going to cash in.
Despicable people.
That’s just infuriating what they’re trying to do to her now. Once again, the “right wing conspiracy nuts” turn out to be the normal, decent Americans and, apparently, the left is projecting. I tried to leave a comment, but then got a big sign saying the website was shut down for maintenance or something….?
They only have one page in their playbook: attack and discredit and destroy. And, lucky for us, all we have is regular living, telling the truth and fighting for tomorrow. I think we’re well armed. I think they are (in the long run) defenseless.
the poor woman…
this is only get more and more dems disgusted at their disgusting radical party!
God BLess this brave woman. We all stand with this great American patriot.
We need a brainstorming session. What can we do to help Dr. Alveda King?
Excellent idea, Patriot Dreamer!
Maybe we can talk about it if Chrissy gives us an Open Thread tomorrow, and have some ideas for Kevin when he gets back.
(I think he’ll be all over this!)
What can we do? Comment, write letters/emails, donate money? This is a woman worth investing in!!!
the “main”stream media has no idea people, even people who used to believe htem like me, no longer trust or believe anything they say and have figured out they are NOT unbiased…
they are all lefties…
and they don’t know that now the majority of Americans know that they are.
http://www.breitbart.tv/national-mall-left-spotless-after-beck-rally/
National Mall left spotless after Beck rally.
Of course it was. ; )
Sharptons protest against honor probably left in shambles.
Tweet about Sharpton’s rally…
police were called to Al Sharpton’s rally because a man was “exposing himself” to the crowd. #828 #stayclassy
Clearly inspiring.
Just living the dream, I guess.
; )
Oh my dear Lord – they do attract the loons, don’t they? Ewwwww.
Excellent job people on keeping it tidy!Thank you for making us all proud to be a part of the rally even if in our thoughts.
Of course it was! We brought extra trash bags to help clean up if some people forgot to, but everyone — and I mean that literally– everyone else brought trash bags and was diligently picking up every scrap and bottle.
It was something to see, indeed!
Wow, we are so proud to know you!! You dun yourselves proud!
That just makes me smile. We are their worst nightmare in the flesh: we balance our checkbooks, we don’t lie, we take care of our homes and pick up after ourselves (in public as well as in private) and, on top of all that (referencing another accusation they’ve launched apparently…or a suspicion they have)…when we go to rallies like this, we just pool our money and rent buses on our own. No union money. No political money. Our money.
When you stop to think of it, they’ve probably never had to deal with so many people at one time to act like this. They are more accustomed to dealing with lying thugs just like themselves. And they freak out.
I sure hope our 75 year old honorary friend got there! Is there any way to find out? Did anyone try to call her? I get she’s going to have change her cell phone number since she put it out there like that…..
Anyway, I’m so blasted proud of our American friends who were there today, and left our house and yard in such pristine condition. Wow.
I saw this comment at IOwnTheWorld originally from some lefty nut:
“The damn teabaggers and right wing Beckheads had the nerve to plant people in the crowd with trash bags coordinating cleaning up after themselves. Typical conservative selfishness that stops the union park service from work and earning a living. What right to they have to take jobs from the hard working men and women in DC. Their selfish, self-centered, and malicious manners make me sick.”
Didn’t his mother teach him to pick up after himself? My mother would have made darned sure that he did!
No it doesn’t you jackass, it means that responsible people clean up after themselves, and saves your tax dollars.
As to my mother, she would have created some sort of heinous punishment for his meaness. Like making him clean up a parking lot by himself. No griping allowed.
What a twit.
So we should assume that he refuses to feed his children so as not to take work away from the Social Services Department? He refuses to take his mother to the doctor so as not to take work away from a Social Worker? He refuses wipe his own bottom, so as not to take work away from…..
these people are truly mindless and heartless.
refuses to vote so as not to take away from ACORN
Holy crap! That’s a joke, right?
No joke. More comments here:

Are you for real?
They have lost their minds.
Have you ever seen a more hilarious meltdown?
Its everywhere!
Beck and Palin.. living rent free in libs screwed up minds.
Idjit–
Doesn’t he realize they get paid by the hour, not the trashbag.
If anything, those EVILE conservatives gave them an afternoon off.
Right. What really makes sense is to collect more taxes from people to pay the government to pick up after them, rather than to just pick up after ourselves.
Sounds like nutty madness right out of The Onion.
Hahaaha… yeah, but even they couldn’t make up such goofiness.
That’s just too good not to be a plant. That has to be someone who is trying to rile them up.
Amazing, and yet so predictable. A perfect example of complete abdication of personal responsibility. My solution — a summer working on my uncle’s farm in Upstate NY … basic rule, you get a full meal if you work a full day. growl….
Wow. Just wow. That is the most deranged bit of “logic” I have ever read.
http://glennbeckclips.com/index.htm#rally
What We Saw at the Glenn Beck Rally in DC REASON TV
Here’s my report from the rally:
First, we went to the Springfield Metro in northern Virginia at about 7:30 a.m. There was a long line of folks streaming from the nearby Springfield Mall parking to the Metro (and they were obviously bound for the rally based on their patriotic hats & t-shirts. After seeing the crowd, we decided to try a different Metro Station. That second Metro Station was a lot less crowded, but still people there going to the rally and the parking lot was fairly full for early morning on a Saturday.
We took the Metro in to the Smithsonian Metro Station and got off there. There were *so many people* there, they actually had to stop (temporarily) the escalator going up, because there was no place for people to go when they got off!
We left the Smithsonian Metro Station and there were lots and lots of people. We didn’t even have to check a map: we just followed people towards the rally.
We kept walking and we could tell there would be a huge crowd even before we got to the Washington Monument.
We finally made it to the WWII Memorial after long lines at the port-a-potties (LOL!). I think we got there at about 9:30 or so. The WWII Memorial was just full of people, and we could see people jam-packed all the way from the WWII Memorial on both sides of the Reflecting Pool to the Lincoln Memorial. I didn’t think we would be able to get much closer, but we did make it about halfway down the Reflecting Pool. We were able to find a place to sit near some speakers (very loud speakers, BTW!), and Glenn had some jumbo-tron big-screen TV’s set up for people to see, too. I think Glenn’s (unofficial) estimates placed the crowd at 500,000+ people, and the permit that they put in with the Park Police said that they were expecting about 300,000.
It was great. Everybody there at the rally was nice and friendly and picked up after themselves.
I did see some counter-protesters or perhaps agitators might be a better word. One guy was there on the far side of the Lincoln Memorial with a bullhorn and I think he might be part of the Alex Jones crowd, because he was saying that Obama = Bush, etc. There were some other agitaters who seemed to be trying to mess with (verbally) a guy who was talking about Christianity. This was away from the rally, though, and between the Washington Monument and the Smithsonian Metro Station at the end of the rally.
The lines into the Smithsonian Metro after the rally were just incredibly long. We finally made it onto a train at a different Metro station that’s within walking distance. After the rally, the trains were just PACKED with people.
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make the HillBuzz meet up after the rally, but I hope it went well!
Was anyone else impressed with the choice of music – Aaron Copland’s Rodeo – that accompanied Sarah’s walk to the podium today? It seemed to fit her perfectly: high-spirited, lively, Western, fun. I hope she uses it all the time!
As a former musician, I was impressed. I have used most of those pieces at one time or another when I was either a student or teacher of music. Those days are long gone, by the patriotic themes brought back great memories.
Too bad they used it for those beef commercials. All I could think about was a hamburger.
The use of Fanfare for the Common Man was also well done. Love me some Aaron Copland, and so appropriate to have one of the greatest American composer’s music for a rally all about America=awesome!

Here is the WHOLE thing for those that missed it.
JkR, Thank you!

Wow.. NY times is actually fair.
Geraldo recapping the rally on Fox now.
DONT watch.. Geraldo has Al Sharpton.
Gag.
Geraldo recapping on Fox with Al Sharpton in the studio. Geraldo is sounding a bit like he belongs on one of the lesser cable news shows (nothing new there).
I watch Al Not-Too-Sharpton on Geraldo too, I’d say he is just a jealous and petty little man. He even had the nerve to say Glenn would lose in popularity because he didn’t say enough about civil rights. good grief
I wasn’t able to post last night as I was at a fundraiser but got home in time to watch Geraldo. I think he was in awe of Beck and Palin and impressed at the enormity of the crowd. He wants to get Beck and Palin on his show next week. There is also talk of a Palin/Beck ticket.
Al Sharpton is a bitter, old man who is still living in the past and ticked off his crowd was small. He had nothing new to say. To listen to him, you would think that blacks are still riding the slave trains. He’s a sick man and needs psychiatric help.
yuck!!
not watching geraldo! stupid lefty.
wish Geraldo, Juan Williams and Bill O’Reilly would all get lost – or start their own (loser) network.
AMEN.
Beck should take over O’Reilly’s show and Laura Ingraham put in Beck’s spot.
You’ve got to read this article from the NYT.
It’s actually quite fair and free of the usual leftist garbage. Believe it or not.
But here’s the money-quote you all will just LOVE!
FTA: “Across town, SEVERAL HUNDRED people packed a football field at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School to stage a rally commemorating Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
“We come here because the dream has not been achieved,” said the REV. AL SHARPTON, an organizer of the rally.”

“Several hundred people”???!!! Oh…my SIDES!
Bwaaaaaahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaafwaaaaaaaa!
Re: cleaning up after ourselves. Only a kookie lib would find fault with this, anyone with half a brain would appreciate the respect we showed for our nations capitol today.
My daughter, the teacher, commented tonight at dinner. “I can’t believe how nice everyone at the rally was”…sweet as she is she was skeptical of attending after being razed by her fellow teachers for weeks. They almost had her convinced she would be lynched for being less conservative than the average rally attendee. She’s fiscally conservative and socially moderate and makes no bones about it. She was truly surprised that everyone she visited with was welcoming and loving…really opened her eyes. I have a feeling she will be very vocal defending the rally to her liberal friends when she gets home.
Also wanted to comment on Kevin and your fellow buzzers. What a BEAUTIFUL group of people you’ve chosen to associate with. Kevin is everything we’ve imagined. Smart, funny, friendly, talented and patriotic. I feel priveledged to have met him and hope to see him again in the near future. I didn’t catch everyones site name but do remember YTZ4Me, LoBlaw, and Simone…all lovely and great families too. You are all special on this site and I think we all appreciate the caring good people who post here!
yep, I found everyone was very very nice…. I am in that same camp… socially centerist, very conservative when it comes to fiscal, defense and adherance to the US Constitution and founding principles.
people at the rally were all very nice
Awwww.
I would love to meet everyone here.
Your description of Kevin is exactly what I picture him as.
I missed meeting Kevin and they Boyz as well … maybe we can figure out a way to have a big Hillbuzz meet up in Chicago one of these days …. we could get a tour of all the great bars they talk about, and — over fabulous drinks, of course — talk about how we can work together to strengthen and expand Hillbuzz and support this wonderful movement of which we’re a part ….
Glad your daughter got to experience the event with you! The truth cannot be contained!
Just been over to Washington Post…you should see what these far lefties are saying!
I truly believe they don’t want better race relations!
They way they are talking about Beck, Palin and those that attended, I just can’t understand this way of thinking!
It isn’t reality based, that is for sure. I was there. I saw the people. I listened to Beck’s program. To call anyone ‘racist’ there is simply absurd. It was a peaceful, happy event with people from all walks of life.
I can’t either, and heck I used to be a lifelong democrat until 2008, who are these lunatics??!?!
… I feel like I need a shower, went to huff -poo..omg! nuts! just plain nuts!
those people are nuts! I’m asian, and I went to this rally, some of the nicest people I have met… of course it was predominately white… the country is predominately white! but there were many people of different races there… everyone was polite and got along.
I can’t understant these lunatics… who knows maybe I could prior to 2008, I can’t now…. especially since I have seen what is real with my own eyes, and the lies that the media and the lefties say.
Real unity, people coming together, is one of the most beautiful things on earth.
Trashing such beauty–lashing out against innocence and joy–is ugly and evil.
I knew this great pastor once, very folksy, down-to-earth kind of guy. He used to say, “Let’s make Jesus glad, and the devil mad!”
That devil is hoppin’ mad today!
I do not understand why people make a big deal that there are not alot of black people there. 95% voted for Obama, so of course they would not rally against him or anything like that. So if the crowd is only 5% black then it is a representation of America. At tea party events the speakers represent more than 5% black.
They are hate filled. Remember how they treated Hillary and her supporters? My God, they were vicious trying to get her to leave the race…some wishing harm on her. And that was within their own party – someone who was fighting for the very things they wanted to happen. Utopia opened a can of worms and the D party is decaying more every day. It’s on its way to becoming a Dead Zone.
“They way they are talking about Beck, Palin and those that attended, I just can’t understand this way of thinking!”
There’s nothing to understand here, except for this: they hate.
They are envious.
They wish them ill.
They wish all of us ill.
If they could line us up against a wall and throw the firing squad at us all at once, they would do it, gladly.
Don’t you all think they would go “Enter the Dragon” on us if given the opportunity?
Think about it.
Bruce Lee would have nothing to do with this group of leftist ilk. He was a man of peace…and for sure carried his stick when he felt appropriate.
Just sayin’….
Tweet from Sarah Palin!
SarahPalinUSA
Thank you, fellow Americans, for coming from such great distances & at such effort to seek & find inspiration! So glad to share today w you!
Look, the degree of freakout about today is a good thing. They are seeing that they aren’t the majority. Think about it.
In DC, Sharpton should have been able to pull together a FAR bigger rally than he did.
Instead, they got their butts kicked but good. They are running scared.
How right you are!
It must be tough for the left to lose the narrative. They are scrambling to cover any evidence of the size, force and characteristics of those who attended Beck’s event today so they can get back to painting them as fringe elements filled with hatred.
We had a wonderful, inspiring day at Beck’s Rally today; I am proud to be a part of it and to stand among such a wonderful crowd of Patriots of all ages and parts of our dear country.
check it out…. now I understand how one “news” organization lies and then that lie spreads.
Remember, A-BS said 86K people attending? which is is sooo obviously can be seen is a lie..
well, guess who now picked upt that story lie
C-BS!!
I know understand how the media works, they don’t do any work, since they are all lefites, one source lies, and then other spreads that lie… and they defend it by saying… “oh but media outlet X said it so it must be true”
what a sad profession.
“Glenn Beck Rally Attracts Estimated 87,000 (Alex Sundby/CBS News) ”
OMG – Even Geraldo said that Beck hit out of the park today.
Also, he was the ONLY one that mentioned how much money was raised for charity today. Close to $6 million.
It is a shame that no one is talking about that.
I don’t know if it’s worth writing this since everything I’ve tried to post for two days has been dumped, but…..
Of all places to find a fairly balanced report of today’s event, it turned up in the Great Grey Times.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/29/us/politics/29beck.html?hp
They even took a shot at giving a true estimate of the crowd size.
Zernike got roasted alive in Lucianne.com for her lefty preliminary report. So why the change of heart?
Is the Times going to try to save its butt by dropping its bias?
(why haven’t I been able to get anything through for two days?)

I just got done reading all of the comments. Thanks everyone. Saturday was a great day for common sense Americans. Love you all!
A) I nominate Emma as the nicest person on the Internet. Ever.
B) That 87k number really sticks in my craw. Baby Boo woke up for his bobble and now I can’t get back to sleep so naturally I am spending my time torturing myself reading the LSM bullcrap about attendance. We CANNOT let them get away with this.
C)Okay, I’m going to bed. I heart you all.
NOTHING goes to the heart of showing how much we are lied to by the media than them calling a crowd of over 1/2 mil to be 86,000. Something needs to be done to expose every last person relying on our media that if they can LIE about something so documentable and refutable, WHAT DO THEY NOT LIE ABOUT?!?!?!?!
You all have got to read this article from the NYT.
Believe it or not, it’s actually quite fair considering the source.

“Several hundred people”???!!!
Bwaaaaaahaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaafwaaaaaaaa!
WOW OH, WOW! I just got back to my house after the bus rolled back into Atlanta around 6:00 a.m. I HAD to have a shower first before logging on.
I can tell all of you who didn’t get to go, there were hundreds of thousands there carrying the torch for ALL freedom-loving people! It was so wonderful to see so many young people in the crowd, and even more awesome to notice they’re crying as the Viet Nam veteran, who had phosphorous acid take away half of his face, say one of the final prayers. He wept openly as he acknowledge vets past & present, and particularly emoted when discussing the homecoming the Viet Nam vets never got.
Well, they got one yesterday, that’s for sure! I am still swooning from the whole trip.
One of the media stories I saw today quoted a black couple who said they strode through the 8.28 rally crowd proudly sporting their blue Obama t-shirts. They told the reporter that they didn’t get the confrontation they had expected; they just got strange looks from folks. They said the only comment they ever got from anybody in that wonderful sea of humanity was “I’ll be praying for you.”
I can tell you that the person who said that to them was not being catty; it was really from the heart, and that’s the best way to combat attempts at unnecessary provocation.
There was at least one interloper who came to cause trouble, and one of the cops (who graciously gave me a ride back to the hotel due to my severely swollen ankles and dehydration) told me that he was arrested.
Why isn’t that in any of the news stories? I can guarantee you that if anyone from the 8.28 rally had done the same, that’s all we’d be hearing about: “that right-wing extremist who came to disrupt Sharpton’s rally was arrested. Typical behavior seen at most Tea Party events.”
FAIL!
I’ll got into more detail in a blog post on my site, but for now I must try to get some sleep. I have some interesting tid bits that the cop told me about left-wingers and their rallies and the contrast to conservative family-friendly rallies/events at the capitol. Needless to say, they prefer one over the other.
Nite nite for now, all.
KB, I’m so sorry I didn’t get to meet you guys. I was on the right about midway of the reflecting pool. We could see the last jumbo-tron that was erected, but it didn’t matter. We could see enough and hear enough, and everyone was hugging, exchanging information, and praying together.
What a fantastic weekend. There is hope, America. We MUST stand together and FIGHT to bring back honor!
xoxoxo to all
MsU
Great post! Sorry about your ankle! Are you from Chicago? A FB friend posted about getting help for her friend with a bad ankle…
No, I’m from Atlanta. And believe me there were LOTS of older Americans who were trying to hail cabs. I found a group of persons like myself (ankle problems) who were also trying to hail a cab, but none stopped for us. We were all going to pile in together, but one never came.
I saw that couple. I was on the other side of you at the front. I got there really early so I was able to secure a good seat.
The only people I saw that really got a reaction from the crowd was the one who carrying a sign about religion. I can’t remember exactly what it said, but the ususal far left stuff about religion being bad and causing wars.
The sign was big and it was blocking the view of people. All people said was to move the sign, not one word about what it said.
Let’s be honest here, most people paid really good money to get there and wanted to see the event.
I did see many counter protestors, Peta people wearing veggie costumes carrying signs saying tea baggers eat me. Seriously, what was the point in that?
I am sure you saw that huge sign that had the picture of MLK had a dream and Beck is a nightmare. It took three or four people to carry that sign. I can tell you with 100% certainty that was union printed. I used to work in direct mail, so I know printing.
I am going to post again today with more thoughts and impressions, but I needed to wind down my kids yesterday and I was also interested in seeing some of the reactions.
Just added your blog to my Favorites. Good post! Can’t wait to read the account on your blog.
I’m hearing so many wonderful things about this rally. I watched Al Sharpton late last night on Fox and he was so ticked off it was hilarious. He had a major dose of attitude and looked bitter and old.
That old way of thinking and hating just shows itself for what it is…If he can’t hate people he is out of business.
The time for hate is over. Alveeda King said it best “We are one race..the human race..and we should all come together”.
Bev, I found this MLK quote yesterday (used it in a ‘discussion’ over at the Freep):
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Very true.
It’s also a Chinese philosophy in martial arts, kind of the yin-yan thing. You can’t fight hate with hate.
Great post. Great to have you as a buzzer. thx.
HELP. Massachusetts. PRAY we prove him wrong.
http://bostonherald.com/news/us_politics/view.bg?&articleid=1277644&format=&page=2&listingType=politics#articleFull
John Walsh, chairman of the Massachusetts Democratic Party, scoffed at that.
The rally was “clearly about driving ratings for Glenn Beck’s TV show, that’s the whole purpose of it,” he said. Democrats’ “prospects for the fall are excellent.”
Of course, he is going to say this. He is a Democrat and he doesn’t want money to dry up. Don’t fall for their pysch-ops.
The legacy of MLK was “content of character” and equal rights for all regardless of race, creed, sexual orientation, or national origin. The Restoring Honor Rally reminded us of the importance of aspiring to and living this legacy daily. Only the most bigoted and most dishonest among us will demean this event. It was truly inspirational.
I was very fortunate. I was st the rally and saw no protesters in our area.
The most moving part was the whole crowd singing Amazing Grace together. There were way over 500,000 people attending, singing together. Wow.
I think this and the black robe brigade of maybe 240 (I think that’s what Beck said) ministers, clergy, rabbis, etc. standing on stage was the surprise for the last 10 minutes Beck spoke about.
I was at the breakfast earlier in the Willard hotel and met Michelle Bachman and thanked her for all she did for our country, and that so many are behind her. I admit, I cried. We clasped hands and she told me thanks. I got a picture with her, too. Sarah and Glenn’s table were surrounded by heavy security.
But Alvena King was sitting just 2 tables away, and saw lots of others there as well, Tanya,(Beck’s wife), Stu, and David Barton.
And actually, the first speaker to get teary-eyed was not Beck, but the older man who is the head of the Special Operations Warriors Foundation, a retired soldier. And then when Beck got up to speak, he made a joke about who would have bet that he would not be the first one crying!
It was so exciting! But I never met up with the hillbuzz guys, so I am sorry I missed you.
Bijou, thanks for posting that NYT link. I have been blocked out for more than two days. No idea why.
An important point about that article, one of the writers, Zernicke, wrote a very slanted and snarky article the day before and was roasted alive on Lucianne.
Wonder what caused the change?
Finally got the bloggy thing working:

Thanks for sharing!
GREAT BLOG. Thank you.
