Friday Open Thread: October 30th, 2009
What’s on your mind this Friday?
What political-themed Halloween costumes do you think will be big this year?
What do you think Tony Blair’s chances of becoming the first President of the EU are now?
What do you think of Joe Leiberman announcing he’s going to back Republicans in 2010?

Please click on this link and read a great article we hope becomes a regular feature in the Tribune: Whatever Happened To? The author is Vikki Ortiz Healy, one of the smartest, nicest, and best reporters we met during the campaigns last year.
Vikki needs your help.
For her column to become a regular feature, she needs a high hit count for the piece above…the more hits she gets, the more likely she is to get the job.
Anyone reading this has the chance today to do something simple and free to help a good person out. Can you email Vikki’s article out to everyone you know and ask them, too, to click on the link and send it to their friends?
With times so tough for everyone, we keep thinking about Hillary Clinton’s book “It Takes A Village”.
It’s not just about raising children, but about seeing the connections you have with those around you and how the lines of friendship and family need to blur to include anyone you can help out each day — knowing that you, too, might need that help as well.
We try to answer that call ourselves for everyone who could use a hand. If just a fraction of you reading this would click on Vikki’s link and ask others to do it too, you could actually help a good person land a job she needs.
Just imagine the impact all of us could have if every day we put positive energy into the world like that and helped someone find work.
It really does take a village.

h/t Michelle Malkin for the heads-up, but it looks like Valerie Jarrett is the next Utopian official you should be reading up on: www.StopJarrett.com has launched.
It would be interesting to see what all of us can dig up to help this effort. She’s one of the shadiest Chicagoans to head to Washington…and made an HRH Princess Caroline of Kennedy-style fool of herself recently when she attacked FOX News as biased and waxed on about how evil it is…until Campbell Brown asked Jarrett if MSNBC was biased in favor of the White House, and if that made it evil, too? Jarrett, if we recall correctly, just started burbling and then skadaddled for the door, where a Valerie Jarrett-shaped hole remains, Tex Avery-style.
Valerie Jarrett should be the new Van Jones…Americans need to know all they can about her and the shady things she’s been involved in.

In Halloween spirit, here’s an article on states that allow the dead to vote.
Not the Chicago way, where ACORN registers the dead (and cartoon characters) and then votes for Democrats in their name.
This is about people who mail in absentee ballots and then die before Election Day.
Personally, we think the potential for fraud in this trumps all and the practice should be ended. If there is no way to ever go back and check that a person actually DID mail in an absentee ballot, absent a Ouija board, then the ballot should expire when the voter does.
Though it would never come to this, imagine a scenario where absentee ballots are sent in, en masse, under the names of thousands of people…and then a domestic terrorist group such as ACORN, following William Ayers’ example out of the Alinsky playbook, then sets off a bomb or systematically eliminates all those people…so that they can never contest their votes. ACORN could, thus, hypothetically, swing elections with those murders.
It’s a few steps up the criminal ladder from what these people are doing now, but do you really think Bertha Lewis and her crew wouldn’t stoop do doing anything possible to get what they want?
Why tempt criminals with loopholes like this?

I’m just stumped why ANYONE thinks a 2000 page bill will be a good thing for America – regardless of what the bill is about. It has over 3000 “shalls” in it – and our Congresspeople, senators and administration will not have to follow a word of it – they get to “opt out” of all of it.
It is a disgrace that we have a congress and president that vote and sign trillion dollar bills without even reading them. Where is the outrage in the media?
You mean the media that has been fellating Obama 24/7 for the past two years or so?
How do you think he’s able to cram 2000 pages down their throats?
Yes that media.:)
It certainly is not good for forests!
If Al Gore weren’t a hypocrite, he’d be on the House and Senate floors trying to personally cram the 2000 pages down the Congress Critters throats until they vote “No!”
sending a little help.wish it could be more

What a lot (and I mean a lot) of people do not understand: Yes! this is happening in America…NO! they do not care about us or our health care! They are Marxists, Statists, Communists and they will do what they must to destroy our freedom and take powere and control over us…it is a plan, a strategy and it is working…it may very well come down to another civil war…no joke!
This is my repost from yesterday..
Hi, Stacee. The health care bill and the Cap and Tax is all about destroying our economy, re-distributing wealth and power over us. There are ways to help our nation without destroying us; but they choose authoritarian means.
Dismantling America By Thomas Sowell

We can get mad at low life bottom feeders like Alan Graysons and demand he apologize for his remarks like calling a woman a K street whore. But the reality is, it does not matter if Grayson apologizes. He is not an honorable man. He has no longer just stepped over the line , he is so far removed from the line. We are the problem when we as Democrats, Republicans and Independents fail to scream from the top of our lungs, call their offices and show up at their door steps and tell these people, our Representatives, that this is not what we sent them to Washington to do. It is easy to scream and harass the other side. But how many of us are just as outraged at the antics of the people we sent to Washington? I know there are so many good people who voted for Grayson in District 8. Isn’t it their responsibility to say this isn’t what they sent him there to do? Grayson is a morally bankrupt individual and does not have the ability to make the appropriate changes. I do not expect him to. Just as I do not expect that Nancy Pelosi can. I walked away from the Democratic Party last year because of this kind of garbage. When and how does it stop. They won’t stop it, will we? Can we?
As a resident of FL District -08, Grayson is simply not up to the job he was elected to do and his despicable behavior is proof. His arrogant lack of respect for his district and Florida is deplorable. He needs to resign for mental incompetence. There are people here that are speaking out and several conservative candidates will be running in 2010.Some of the reasons he was elected: 2.5 million of his own money, ACORN and Bush backlash. Keep the faith, there are reasonable people in Central FL they just don’t make nightly news for being crazy.
Let’s hope so. Either that or we’ll have to burn his voodoo doll after we hang it in effigy.
Where on earth did that lamebrain ever get 2.5 million? He just seems so incompetent that it’s hard imagining him garnering significant money. Did Mommie and Daddy leave it to their precious little darling, the light of their eyes?
No, he was trial lawyer. Made his money in NYC/NJ and has DC connections. A house in VA as well as one in an upscale area of Orlando.
Have not used my voodoo dolls for awhile, guess I pull them out this weekend, thanks for the suggestion
Leiberman does not owe the dems ANYTHING! They tried to run him out of the party just because he was steadfast in supporting our troops and their victory.
At this point he seems like the only one in congress with the courage of his convictions. Leiberman’s got balls!
Don’t forget to watch Glen Beck this afternoon.
He’ll be talking to Lord Monckton and John Bolton.
It should be a very interesting show.
What makes the Virginia race so scary for the president’s men?

SOMETHING REALLY SCAREY FOR OBAMA’S DEMOCRATS
by Wesley Pruden
….One Obama doorbell ringer, working neighborhoods in Northern Virginia for Creigh Deeds, says even the promise of free pizza can’t lure faithful Democrats to a rally……
The public-opinion polls continue to show Mr. McDonnell ahead, despite all the Post’s ineffective deeds, and with a lengthening lead…….
Suddenly, the White House is treating the bereft Mr. Deeds as if he’s on the fourth day of a three-day underarm deodorant pad. Bill Clinton, accustomed to speaking to cheering thousands at a hundred grand a pop, was dispatched the other night to a Deeds rally to set the throng on fire with one of his late-October stumpwallopers. The rally, such as it was, was held not at an arena or a hotel – not even a Motel 6 – but in a campaign office in the Washington suburbs. The “throng” was counted in the dozens, about the size of a PTA meeting. Not even Bubba could dispel the gloom of a wake.
If you are able to view this image of Nancy Pelosi, doesn’t she have those creepy black eyes that the demons have in the horror movies? I just found this picture of her so empty and vacant of a soul. A little over the top I know, but I wonder what others think.

Yeah..I wonder exactly what happened to her..I used to think I liked her a long time ago…was it the money? the power? I’m not sure what took “it” away..
Looks like she has a brick up her *$$
You know those trade mark Tahitian pearls she wears can cost up to $20,000 esp. the multicolored ones. So everytime I see that face and those pearls I think how many Starkist cans of tuna does it take!

Just got back from Clash of the Titans Debate at Regent U, which Pat Robertson hosts every year. This year Joe Scarborough moderated, Arianna and Howard Dean on the left, Dick Armey and john Kasich on the right. Fiesty and fun, the middle won

I spread the word about Vikki’s article to the gang over at Hillarysworld.
TUNE IN TOMORROW TO HEAR A HEALTH CARE REFORM PLAN THAT WILL PROVE TO BE THE GAME CHANGERShare
Today at 6:28pm
Mark my words – tomorrow is the game changer! Tune in to hear common sense solutions that bury the false accusations that conscientious members of Congress have no solutions to meet America’s health care challenges.
If you’re like me, shaking your head wondering why all the miscommunication between Washington and the American people who have been saying, “Please hear what we’re saying about our desire for health care reform,” then tomorrow will be a refreshing time of clarity for all.
All Americans, and especially colleagues of House Republican Leader John Boehner: please listen to tomorrow’s weekly GOP national address. Rep. Boehner will highlight a common sense alternative to Speaker Pelosi’s 1,990-page government takeover of health care. I urge you to watch for it. For a preview, go to: http://HealthCare.GOP.gov
You’ll hear solutions. You’ll hear of real choices based on America’s proven free-market principles. You’ll know once and for all what the GOP and Independents have been saying all along about alternatives to another big government take over. After tomorrow, you’ll know that accusations against the GOP and Independents for not providing solutions are false. Those claims are bogus. There are alternatives. Tune in to Rep. Boehner’s address tomorrow to hear them.
I look forward to the game changer!

What’s on my mind today is disgust. The Commonwealth is about to make some decent sized budget cuts, and the money that helps shelters is potentially getting hit. We hosted the President Platitude family here for their “in country” summer vacation, we paid some of the security cost – we hosted most of DC royalty for the Kennedy funeral, we paid some of the security cost – we hosted President Platitude for Governor Miracle’s Can Happen re-election campaign, we paid some of the security cost…. yet we can’t guarantee that we won’t turn homeless people away from shelters when it’s snowing in January….
Help spread the word.
This needs to go viral.
Rep Bachmann is calling for all Americans to go to Washington D.C. to stop the socialism of America.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLDzKfsUzy0&feature=player_embedded
She’s asking for Americans across the country to attend her rally on November 5th on the White Houes steps.
Urgent for those who are able to attend. Please help send this viral to all tea partiers. There is not much time.
